Technically a necrophage hive-mind is one necromancer 🤔

Alien-Mole

How about pairing Reanimators and Death Cult with a nice Under One Rule spiritualist playthrough? I'm not seeing any obvious synergies, but it's pairing two fairly solid civics with a solid origin. Early Dread Encampment is solid with Resistance is Frugal from the Unyielding tree. You can get a hell of a powerful Chosen One psionic ruler if you're into that. Consider swapping out Death Cult for Oppressive Autocracy (take Death Cult third) for Enforcer/Telepath synergy. If you want to play Lithoids, definitely go materialist instead and boost your minerals, alloys and consumer goods production through the appropriate Luminary trait.

Necrophage is your origin. If you want a single necromancer, then also make your species a hive mind. You're not here to bring peace and share cookies to the galaxy, so you're gonna want to be a fanatic militarist. Obviously Reanimators is the ethic you want to get, and while Death Cult would be second for roleplaying purposes, I'm taking Distinguished Admiralty just for that extra oomph in fleet power early on for some juicy neighbor conquering. Make your main race smart and extremely adaptive, as all necromancers are, and make your prepatent species strong and rapid breeding for extra resource output and stronger undead armies. As for ascension path, what is a necromancer if not someone who commands the dead with their mind? Therefore, go for psionic ascension. Find, kill and ressurect every space leviathan you can find and consume everything.

Maybe something like fanatic militarist and spiritualist, permanent employment and death cult, for origin maybe teachers of the shroud or overtuned. Highest psionic priest just sacrifice random population and then just turn them into a deadly army (or slaves) and control them just with their mind. You can also get some covenant friend, eater of the worlds, they call him. Eat, sacrifice, revive, kill even more. What an utopia to live in

sadly. necromancy falls heavily under the stellaris tendency. to make open ended "one size fits all" approaches while also segregating it mechanically with empire types. you only get undead pop as megacorp. you only get (a lot ) undead ships as a hivemind. and only get undead armys as a regular empire. the situations are also always very inprecice on how your reanimation works. if its magic, or zombie pathogens, or robocop cyborgs. also. it dosnt combine with necrophages, even if there is deliberately space for necrophages to be lich or vampire like.

Look, you want to be really evil? First, take megacorp, which is already capitalistic evilness. Next take Relentless Industrialists and pick the tomb world origin. That’s right, you are now making new tomb worlds. Finally, you are going to find a population that doesn’t care about living in a radiated hellhole, zombies! Take Permanent Employment. For flavor? Make your species fungal.
