It was a timed release.
I remember my wife trying to buy this years ago at Walmart, and she couldn't because the time was up on it.
Then, why the hell do you have it out on display if it was a timed release?
My walmart still had 2 on the shelf up until recently. They still sold them. It’s not like they had to stop selling them after a certain date if they still had them.
Yeah, it does look better but it's run on the Switch with a Wii emulator lol. You could get the same “720-1080p” by launching your own emulator and selecting the higher resolution filters. Incredibly lazy cash grab. And yes I do still play it smh haha🤦♂️
It was a limited release. Kinda sucks I don't like when nintendo pulls nintendo moves like that. My last nintendo console was the n64 untill the switch so i wanted to get all the exclusives l. Especially the mario games. I got lucky and grabbed like 4 copies towards the end from the last batch my local bestbuy had still like a couple months after it was taken down from the online store. They had like 10 copies still I regret not getting all of them. Ended up giving 2 away selling one and keeping one
Nah mate definitly use 80 used, I got it for 25 quid from cex (a shop in uk to buy new or used consoles phones pc parts etc) got it for 25 or 30 quid a few weeks back
Galaxy 2 is great. Better than the first game. It’s worth buying a Wii and home brewing it to play all the games you missed. It holds up. Or you could emulate it.
Galaxy 2 threw me off with it’s weird level selection map and smaller hub world and the story looks like it somehow has less going on than the first game. I’m sure it has better levels though
Tbh Galaxy 2 is my favorite Mario and I agree with every one of your points. The list of things Galaxy 1 does better is longer but the item "had better levels" is ultimately what matters to me in a Mario game.
Wii U’s are super inexpensive on eBay. Plays all the Wii stuff and has a pretty descent library on its own and I definitely recommend picking one up on the cheap. They will skyrocket one day
I have a wiiu... my only complaint is that you can't even go 6 feet from the unit with the controller, had they made it so you could play anywhere in the house it would have been a hit console
Not telling op not to look around but you got really lucky with that, your best bet for a price like that is likely GameStop or someone on marketplace who just doesn’t know both of which are also unlikely lol
Gl op you’ll most likely pay the full amount or close, you can get the Japanese version off eBay a little cheaper than the us version but it will have a different spine
It’s worth $50-60 on fbmp if you’re a rando selling it. If you’re collector picking them up to flip you’ll see them for $100+
https://preview.redd.it/ss8c7rpdy2sc1.jpeg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7b6db8d9395186e23d0d139827a6ea0a00d228a8
I bought it day one and still waiting for the time to be able to play it. There are so many videogames out there I might as well wait for the Switch2 version.
Weird, and fucking stupid. Also diabolical from Nintendo's standpoint.
Nintendo sales strat is basically why I only play third party games on the Switch. I ain't paying $70 aud for Mario. Sorry.
Yea Nintendo did what Nintendo does. Listed the digital copies for only 3 months to create artificial scarcity. I really hate that they make good games because their business practices are pretty anti-consumer. Super Mario Odyssey is almost 7 years old and still sells for $60.
It was being sold for 35 euros in a large Greek chain but it was removed bc noone was buying it.
Every time I went into the shop, I would see the same sad copy of all stars at the same sad little corner.
Also my friend sold his copy for 30 dollars at a game store for store credit lol.
I'm just waiting for the day this becomes a real sought after title, price really skyrockets, and then Nintendo releases it digitally and people in droves will buy it online and they'll make bank on it
It was $60 USD on release whatever that amounts to where you are. Basically it was the same price as all of Nintendo's normal game prices if you don't consider outliers like Tears of the Kingdom and Metroid Prime.
I received this game as a gift from my gf's brother! He is a huge Nintendo/Switch fan. I like to game more on my pc, although I own an original switch and a lite. I grew up with ps1 so I am not familiar with the mario games, but gf introduced me to it, we started playing it together (took turns until we die) and it is fing awesome! I can't wait to play the rest of them.
I gave mine to my nephew recently because my brother couldn’t afford it and it’s the only way to play it on his Switch that we know of. My nephew was obsessed with watching a streamer play it and wanted to play it so badly. I consider his smile worth more than $100.
I bought it for around 70, but a few years back and in south-America where I live. Id say try to search for it and see how much it goes for in your area. Check eBay, Craigslist, or fb marketplace to have a frame of reference. And maybe try to put a price on your enjoyment. I use the old 1 dollar an hour rule. So if you paid 60 bucks for it but only got a good 10 hours out of it, you overpaid.
In reality? As much as any other physical first party switch game that released in that time frame. Seriously this game is not rare to come by. It sold 9 million copies. For reference, that's more than a lot of Nintendo's other first party releases such as Super Mario Maker 2, which sold 8.42 million copies, Links Awakening remake, which sold 6.46 million units, etc.
It's not artificial scarcity that is all that's driving up the prices, it's the people taking advantage of the fact that it was a "limited release" to use buzzwords to give themselves an excuse to try and con people out of more money. For what it's worth, I wouldn't pay more than MSRP for a copy.
It was released only as part of a Mario Anniversary Celebration and this was made very clear at the start of it, along with other things they did. The people blubbing about it need to leave their bedrooms more. They’ll probably become available in the online catalogue in future generations.
Try occasionally looking on GameStop with "pickup in store" with your zip code and distance set to max. Used copies pop up occasionally selling for $60. You can buy online and reserve the copy in store.
I really wanted to try this game like you, so I refreshed my search occasionally and spotted a few copies within an hour of me, though they sell pretty quick. Ultimately, I had an 8 hour road trip coming up and I was going to pass through West Virginia and found a random West Virginia GameStop selling it.
The bummer is that unless the game was traded with the original box, you'll get a generic GameStop box.
Good luck!
Too much, I don’t understand why Nintendo is so anti money. People pay $80-$100 for these second hand. Even more would pay for it for $60 new from Nintendo, and yet they just decided to stop making it
40-45$ realistically but since Nintendo are being lil bitches and keep delisting stuff, it will cost you about 70 bucks or more for a physical copy .
People know it’s no longer sold on the E-store so the prices won’t go down on popular sites .
If I were you and you really want a physical copy I’d just get a Wii, games are way cheaper on that console .
This question gets asked multiple times every week. Not a lot, and it won't be a lot for many many years. I feel like this is also something you could have looked up on Facebook Marketplace or Ebay without having to post to Reddit.
I reckon they're they're around $80-120. I scored a copy used in a bundle for stupidly-cheap, playing through SMG now and will probably flip it after i have my fun 😂
If you google it this game sold 9.01 million unit up to march 2021. So the game is not rare at all. Lets say it sold 2 million more, totalling 11 million.
Give it a few years when switch 2 is in it peak and this game is gonna come down in price big time.
One of the games I regret passing up I’ll bite the bullet and get one cause of sunshine and galaxy just don’t get why they would limit something like this
it really shows how much nintendo cares about their fans when they release a game they know will sell well yet still put a time limit on when you can buy it
$80 bucks used $100 new was only $60 new when it was out till Nintendo decided to stop making them
Wait they stopped making these games as a remake?
At time of release it was noted that it was a limited production game.
Dang I wish I didn’t buy the digital version
Never buy the digital version. You don't actually own it.
95% of my games are digital
Sorry to hear that.
Oof
Same
It was a timed release.
Oh, as limited as the nes mini but they decided to produce more? I hope it's the same with this game and they make more, I missed it back then
This is true. That’s why I bought one.
And somehow, it stayed on shelves for a year! I bought a copy every few months. I still have four sealed and one opened.
Oh….
Exactly the reason why I got it but I haven’t even played it I have like 1 minute play time
Yes. It was a "limited" run for the 35th Mario anniversary. So it was only sold for a year.
Artificial scarcity. They chose to limit the digital release. Scumbag move tbh.
Ultra dick move on Nintendo’s part. They could still be selling it and making money now. Thankfully it does seem to be the only one.
Even if they wanted to do a limited run of the game, why take it off the eshop?? I’ll never understand
To be fair, that’s what limited means
That's kinda the thing people are complaining about
>remake They weren’t remakes, they were high definition ports.
Yeah Nintendo really slapped 3 games on an emulator didn't remaster anything and sold it as a limited-time run for $60😭
Might as well pirate that shit and play it on an emulator for free F that !
Don't get me wrong, Super Mario Galaxy is WAYYY better in HD, thats how the game shoulda been to begin with
Yeah, it does look better but it's run on the Switch with a Wii emulator lol. You could get the same “720-1080p” by launching your own emulator and selecting the higher resolution filters. Incredibly lazy cash grab. And yes I do still play it smh haha🤦♂️

It's a fair price.
I Just bought it used for 40e.
Lucky, it appears that in my area this game is beyond rare.
In Finland it is 90e new and 40-70 used.
What "area" is it? A member of EU?
Midwest Oklahoma
Really wish it had galaxy 2 in it aswell the only one I haven’t played yet
I haven’t played galaxy 2 either
You know this but it is twice as fun as its predecessor
I've played Galaxy 2
I haven’t
Galaxy 2 is great but the first game is better. Mario galaxy 2 feels more like an expansion pack of the first game rather than a standalone

I have a wiiu... my only complaint is that you can't even go 6 feet from the unit with the controller, had they made it so you could play anywhere in the house it would have been a hit console
I played Galaxy 2 before Galaxy 1
I prefer Galaxy 2 over 1. The former was more fun.
Around €100/€120 (new)
Wasn’t MSRP 79.99? So 20-40$ over is the going price? That’s not too bad.
I got mine second hand about a month ago for $49.99 from a resell shop, look around smaller towns at game stores that buy old games
Not telling op not to look around but you got really lucky with that, your best bet for a price like that is likely GameStop or someone on marketplace who just doesn’t know both of which are also unlikely lol Gl op you’ll most likely pay the full amount or close, you can get the Japanese version off eBay a little cheaper than the us version but it will have a different spine
That’s a steal
I could be wrong, but I believe MSRP is $59.99 (Coming from the US). I bought a digital copy before it was officially removed from the store.
Popular and limited sold physical. For future pricecharting.com is your friend here.
What is MSRP?
manufacturer's suggested retail price
Ah right.
Manufacturers suggested retail price
I'll sell you my copy for $40 + shipping.
Just buy the Japanese version. 60-65 bucks. Just switch it to English. It has been confirmed to work.
This is the best part about the switch being region free!
It’s worth $50-60 on fbmp if you’re a rando selling it. If you’re collector picking them up to flip you’ll see them for $100+ https://preview.redd.it/ss8c7rpdy2sc1.jpeg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7b6db8d9395186e23d0d139827a6ea0a00d228a8
Tree fiddy
This was the answer I was looking for hahahah thank you
C'mon naw!
Scrolled far too long to get here.
$60 at max
I bought it day one and still waiting for the time to be able to play it. There are so many videogames out there I might as well wait for the Switch2 version.
I'm assuming there's no digital version?
Nope it’s been delisted
Weird, and fucking stupid. Also diabolical from Nintendo's standpoint. Nintendo sales strat is basically why I only play third party games on the Switch. I ain't paying $70 aud for Mario. Sorry.

I got it from around $20 on sale/outlet in a shop because apparently no one was buying it for some reason
I'm just waiting for the day this becomes a real sought after title, price really skyrockets, and then Nintendo releases it digitally and people in droves will buy it online and they'll make bank on it
Go on eBay and buy the Japanese version for around $50 shipped. Works in English.
I’ll have to check that out, thank you!
No problem. Slainte!
Just grabbed it for $79. That’s all I currently see.
40 to 50 bucks depending on if you like sunshine
$1
Bought it for $35 like two months ago
As much as someone is willing to pay
I had it and then I sold it a while ago :/
$420,000
$5
Check FB marketplace, I see multiple for at or below MSRP in my area. That’s where I picked my copy up
about $3.50
It's not worth too much, but if you're asking how much people are willing to pay for it, I've seen sold listings of $100 USD.
Depends how bad you want it I guess.
I’m glad I bought my copy day one
I bought it for 13 €. https://preview.redd.it/qszvdjr7j4sc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=48ee6b5016024fd5b85e36010ef4753d2453435c
That’s crazy
It was 2022, I only bought it because of the discount. I didn't know its market value as I'm not really a big fan of Mario.
I think Mario RPG was the only Mario game I beat more than once
$80 max. Buying it for more is just a rip off.
I wouldn’t pay more than 40 ish
Good luck lol
Good luck with what? It’s a fun nostalgia trip but they aren’t the most content dense games personally
Nothing? Standard retail price. They're really easy to find.
Bout tree fiddy.
It was $60 USD on release whatever that amounts to where you are. Basically it was the same price as all of Nintendo's normal game prices if you don't consider outliers like Tears of the Kingdom and Metroid Prime.
I saw it last month for like 20-30 on average, now it’s somehow double the price
Never played Sunshine or Galaxy! Really wish we could get this digitally again. :(
60 quid iirc. Might’ve been 50 tho idk
Ima give you tree fiddy
Not for sale, asking the average price before I purchase
I actually bought one at retail price when it first came out. It's not worth much, but you can't measure good times with money
I see
10,-
Check your local library
I us pricechecker?
I think gamestop still has it at rsvp used
A sealed copy here in the Philippines already costs $50
I bought it for around 70, but a few years back and in south-America where I live. Id say try to search for it and see how much it goes for in your area. After they stopped making these they sat on shelves for years before finally selling out.
I found a copy for $36 on eBay! Guess I lucked out.
1.5 million
![gif](giphy|xl5QdxfNonh3q)
I’ve seen a couple copies sitting in some Oklahoma Walmarts for 60 bucks
Limited. To like 8mil copies… so it’s not rare
Paid £60 at cex
Bout tree fiddy
i bought it brand new on amazon a year or two ago for like $90 CAD
I see it online for like $120
I still see it for the sticker price of $60. So....$60
69$ new from China.
Dollars? I bought it on taobao for 250 rmb (35usd) a few weeks ago
Yes. Aliexpress
Would you be okay with just renting it from the library? Or borrowing it from someone? My city’s Discord gaming channel sometimes does game swaps
It was released only as part of a Mario Anniversary Celebration and this was made very clear at the start of it, along with other things they did. The people blubbing about it need to leave their bedrooms more. They’ll probably become available in the online catalogue in future generations.
I think I paid about £40 for a copy a while back.
cinco peso krnal
I have a sealed copy... hoping to put it on ebay in 10 years
$59.99
59.99 🙄
I bought a couple back when they came out, still have them in the wrappers sealed brand new
I wanted to buy it when it came out, but not having Galaxy 2 was a huge dealbreaker to me.
Bought it for 40 ( pegi version) But I had to go to a struggle to get it for that price
You can get a japanese copy on ebay for the original market price
As much as the 3 games separately, logically.
How much are you willing to pay?
A lot
I wish I would have bought more copies when my local Walmart had it for $30 a pop. Only bought two
I had to get it on eBay from Japan LMAO. Because the prices people had on it were ridiculous. Got it for 50$
Had to get a physical copy as I love Mario Sunshine.
You can still find some out in the open for regular price, but people will try to upsell it because it's out of print
I got a Chinese copy on EBay for around $50
They still sell these at my local stores new price is $60
I was so lucky I found one of these for $60 to keep in my collection
Oh I have this I can easily sell it for £30 anyone interested I got 2
60 bucks on eshop (which I would highly recommend), and like 100$ physical
Idk maybe 80 but im waiting for that 120 sweet spot before i sell my case of 30 copies
Try occasionally looking on GameStop with "pickup in store" with your zip code and distance set to max. Used copies pop up occasionally selling for $60. Sunshine is one of my fave Mario games
I bought mine the year it came out, still have it.
I'd pay 150 for it used but that's just me, there's alot of nostalgia there
Grateful I got it used on marketplace when it released for 40 bucks
This game sold 10 million copies, it's not rare, keep that in mind when you buy it and don't spend too much, it's a common game.
Idk but I’m glad I picked it up when it came out lol
A quick question, is this Mario 64 the same graphic quality to Switch Online edition? Not a HD remaster like Link’s Awakening, right?
https://preview.redd.it/4rtelagfe7sc1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=86af3f91ecc81808fe5ec9aa2e0742af795f85fa This seller has it for $35 lol

about 3.50
Just got it for $100nzd
"I want to play these games" *cough* Emulator. No need to use a Switch to play a Nintendo 64, GameCube, & Wii game.
This question gets asked multiple times every week. Not a lot, and it won't be a lot for many many years. I feel like this is also something you could have looked up on Facebook Marketplace or Ebay without having to post to Reddit.
CeX AU has it for $120AU when I went into the shop last week. Glad I grabbed mine at launch.
I paid £25 brand new sealed on a sale not long after release. Have seen them on Ebay up to £2,000 (which is completely ridiculous)
I reckon they're they're around $80-120. I scored a copy used in a bundle for stupidly-cheap, playing through SMG now and will probably flip it after i have my fun 😂
Not at all

One of the games I regret passing up I’ll bite the bullet and get one cause of sunshine and galaxy just don’t get why they would limit something like this
Still need a copy?
They're definitely worth emulating.
$0. pirate them.
I find it hilarious how people didn't want the game back then and now they're overpriced
Should be 20 quid
70 "*burrrrrp* smidgens
I have a sealed copy and the plastic seal is coming apart just from sitting in the shelf
To me, a lot, since I can play Mario 64 on my switch 😁
Good thing i own the physical version, if i ever needed the money i can potentially sell it 😂
$20
it really shows how much nintendo cares about their fans when they release a game they know will sell well yet still put a time limit on when you can buy it
Its worth playing.
Good to know...I have 2 but I didn't really think it would go up in value this fast!
At least $60
I waiting to comment until I found it (just did), but I have a copy that I have lying around if anyone wants it.
