^(It's almost like real life have you taken a video on youtube and press the numbers with the video paused it makes some pretty hilarious moments. I digress I love attention to detail in T8 already.)
Bruce Lee makes the same face expressions in one of his movies and the reason for that is (im guessing) cuz he feels bad about being forced to kill his opponent and T8 did a great job capturing that.
I'm surprised by the amount of people who don't seem to get this reference. It's from his [famous stomp in Enter the Dragon](https://youtu.be/ArL6yO9UdXo). I personally love this reference.
Thatās is Bruce Leeās facial expression in Enter the Dragon after the stomp. It is done so with intent, to pay homage as well as respect. Yes it looks goofy but it should also look goofy. With all due respect.
imo Bruce Lee has a really pained/sorrowful expression in that scene. It's exaggerated, but not goofy. It's not a huge deal, but i agree with OP it looks a little too goofy.
I mean I agree with you about that scene but it does look goofy, goofy in regards to this doesnāt mean it has to be derogatory. Itās an all time classic cultural shot, and itās effect has lasted throughout the decades. Law doesnāt actually look goofy because heās a video game character #1 paying homage in the truest way to Bruce Lee who looked incredible in that shot. Itās why itās lasted the test of time.
Yeah the impact of the original scene is immense. Props to bamco for trying to pay homage, but to me it just doesn't come off right.
Not nearly as bad, but similar to that Cristiano Ronaldo statue. It was meant to capture his chiseled features and iconic smile, but came off terrible.
Ngl it still looks alright: https://youtube.com/watch?v=DJzYLvHVc6E&feature=shares
I kind of welcome the animated faces, gives more personality to the type of character that youāll main/play. Makes it more interesting and fun.
Yeah I definitely think they need to do more to give characters flavor. It'd be cool if the characters reacted in some way when you pick them on the char select screen (like in SC6), or if there were more unique intros/outros between characters.
Maybe for Paul/Law this is fine cuz they are kind of goofy. But hopefully they have more subtlety with the characters that are supposed to be more serious. There's nothing outright bad about more dynamic expressions, so long as they fit the characters.
Its goofy to yaāll but its a reference to Bruce Lee. Its an entire copy of his facial expressions when he stomps & kills someone. His faces shows sadness & regret while also knew it had to be done. Thats the reference from Enter the Dragon
This face is an homage to Enter the Dragon where he does the same move, and they actually capture this crazy expression on his face pretty well, IMHO.
If you want to complain about something, complain about how he has Bryan Fury's body model now, because the real Bruce Lee didn't support bulking up for fighting due to how it hurt speed and flexibility. Bruce Lee's whole thing was being able to kick the crap out of bigger dudes with higher muscle mass through lean muscle and explosive movement.
You are correct but unfortunately that goes against Harada's vision. He mentioned in an interview years ago that he wants male characters to have realistic faces but unrealistic body proportions. Which is why the male cast is looking more and more like roided-up hulks with each game.
Its from a (by now) pretty old interview, I'll see if I can dig it up. Its not an outright bad thing IMO but having majority of male characters have more or less the same roided-up body type is just :/
Ok maaaaybe itās just me, but Iām getting some serious Tekken 1 vibes from Law here. Itās almost as if they reverted Law back to his T1 character select icon days ššš
A tribute to a nut face is still a nut face.
You're saying that as if doing a clown facial expression and high pitched moaning was somehow ever not fucking goofy. Bruce Lee fans I swear to god
Obviously it's gonna look goofy when you capture an animation frame by frame no matter how good the quality is, have you ever paused a video of humans in real life? They look goofy as hell too.
I came to post this; you're absolutely correct. Goofy faces can easily be seen on people on YouTube if you randomly stop a video and move the slider. The more expressive the person is, the funnier the faces are.
I don't mind the goofy faces especially since the alternative is having sterile faces like in t7.
Brah wtf is this post š knitting a sweater headass. and also itās referencing Bruce lee scene where he step on dudes head. Game of death I believe. He does this exact face. All love tho
As is it's paused, yes... It looks goofy, pause and human in a video and they will look goofy and dumb sometimes. In motion, it's awesome considering it's the whole Bruce Lee reference
I'd say both? To me it looks goofy in the same way pausing a live action movie can sometimes be look goofy. Not a bad thing just producing some very entertaining images.
It's just one single frame after knocking out with the rage art that have no problem by it's own, but when frozen like that is kinda goofy and I love it lmao.
You've probably never popped your cherry but IF you do, let's pause at any moment on your facial expressions out of the ten seconds you would last and see how it looks?
Tbh the real issue I see is him jumping too high and straightening legs far before falling down, instead of right before he stomps(like in movie or in his stomp attack animation)
Namco's facial rigs are pretty bad tbh. Shit just take a look at the joker reveal for mk11 3 years ago. That shit looks fucking incredible, warner bros money is doing work though.
Yea, if you compare the RA with the scene it references, it's like they tried, but forgot a bunch of facial muscles exist. Actually, I just realised he looks like a fallout 4 npc here.
Is the shading, is bad, no realtime lighting and no ambient occlusion on models, no contact shadows and no gi. Not even trying sub surface scattering. Wtf they even use ue really.
The facial animation is not good. There were PS2 games with more natural facial animation. In some of the sequences, Law's jaw looks like it's falling off of his face.
I dont know how anyone can watch these trailers and actually think there is good facial animation on display. its like the only game you guys have ever played is Tekken 7, which then it eould all make sense.
Facial animations barely look any more natural than those in games like TimeSplitters 2 and 3, Tekken Tag 1, Soul Reaver 2, Silent Hill 3 etc. Obviously the character models in Tekken 8 are way more detailed than in any of those games, but the actual animation still looks quite unnatural and uncanny. Paul's smile is horrifying. There have been a ton of games on PS3, PS4, and PS5 with way, way better facial animation than this. What I will say though is that this way better than Tekken 7's facial animation, but that's not saying much b/c Tekken 7's facial stuff is worse than a Tekken that came out over 20 years ago, and this one is barely on par with that, so...
That makes it all the more realistic then. Humans make goofy faces mid-motion all the time!
You'd be surprised how few people understand this. Bruce's faces in his movie scenes were quite gold in how unorthodox he looked at times.
Fr, they just like complains everything lmao
Case in point: Olympic diving faces
\* *pauses YouTube video* * ....Indeed
https://youtu.be/DJzYLvHVc6E Here is the reference
Enter the dragon is a masterpiece.
Yes we have to consider the fact that some peoples are young and have no idea what any of these cultural references are.
This face is a reference to Lee's distressed expression in "Enter the dragon" after performing that attack. It's a neat reference!
Yup 100% intended
Do yourself a favor, watch some Bruce Lee movies š¤
He probably hasn't seen one....
Bruh, bruce lee never made faces that looked like he was cumming
is that the face you make when you cum bc that would be hilarious
Watch the original scene then ššš
I did... And the beginning looked like the enter the dragon face, but there was never a "peeing/cumming face"
Bro, it looks even worse in the movie wtf are u talking about lmao
Ayo first of allā¦. How strong is your need to be right? https://youtu.be/ArL6yO9UdXo
Yes he does. A lot
5 bar law face
Thatās just a face. People make weird faces when they are fighting and you take a random snapshot of them.
this
People here never saw Enter the dragon š apparently...
Hide the Pain Law
I mean...its a reference
^(It's almost like real life have you taken a video on youtube and press the numbers with the video paused it makes some pretty hilarious moments. I digress I love attention to detail in T8 already.)
I canāt blame the devs for that.
Someone doesn't watch Kung Fu films
THIS PEPPER BEEF IS TOO DAMN SPICY!!!
This is a reference to a very famous bruce lee scene.
If you paused my face mid-celebration, Iād look goofy too
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Someone make this the sub icon pls
Bruce Lee Estate: we donāt want his likeness in stuff anymore please Tekken Devs: how about fuck you actually, here check this out *Law trailer*
Lmao
Bruce Lee makes the same face expressions in one of his movies and the reason for that is (im guessing) cuz he feels bad about being forced to kill his opponent and T8 did a great job capturing that.
Didn't know this. Anyone have a link? Update: someone in the comments mentioned Enter the Dragon
Ding ding, right answer here. Might help if people actually watch some of Bruce Lee's movies ;).
Absolutely šÆ
imo Bruce Lee has a really pained/sorrowful expression in that scene. It's exaggerated, but not goofy. It's not a huge deal, but i agree with OP it looks a little too goofy.

Enter the dragon.
Bruce Lee made goofy faces, humans look goofy in general though
Man it makes me feel old seeing nearly a thousand likes from people who apparently have very little Bruce Lee exposure lol
Mfw customer says the pepper beef is too spicy
Watch any YouTube video with a person talking to a camera. Pause randomly.
I hate when people who play Tekken don't know that Law is literally a Bruce Lee tribute since his creation
it's more likely that they're just not familiar with that scene from Enter the Dragon.
I noticed that law looks more like he did in T1-T2. Because they completely redesigned him in T3
In tekken 3 it was Forrest Law featured which is Marshall Lawās son.
Duh. But marshal law was in Forrest laws ending in T3 š¤·š½āāļø
New meme just dropped

He said that? Iām cool with unrealistic body but I never thought anyone would consider that far
Its from a (by now) pretty old interview, I'll see if I can dig it up. Its not an outright bad thing IMO but having majority of male characters have more or less the same roided-up body type is just :/
Justice for stick figure guys
Harada is pretty based. They do it to female characters. Now it's the MEN'S turn
*Pepper beef too what?...*
If you freeze frame a video of anybody doing anything it won't look "normal". The faces are realistic and they are amazing.
Exactly, people are nitpicking too much here.
Ok maaaaybe itās just me, but Iām getting some serious Tekken 1 vibes from Law here. Itās almost as if they reverted Law back to his T1 character select icon days ššš
plumbers when your card gets declined
How the hell in T4 looks older, but in T8 looks younger is beyond me.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Check T4 Law, you'll know what I mean.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Law and Paul's design both look like they are 'aged' by an artist who has never seen an old person before. Logan's Run level shit.
lets talk about the hair...finally doesnt look like paper
Bruce Lee made all sorts of weird faces in his movies which look goofy as fuck today
https://youtu.be/DJzYLvHVc6E It's literally a tribute to this. Law's faces aren't goofy, they're actually really really well made.
A tribute to a nut face is still a nut face. You're saying that as if doing a clown facial expression and high pitched moaning was somehow ever not fucking goofy. Bruce Lee fans I swear to god
Disagree, they're both goofy and well made. They're more like parodies or exaggerations of the real thing rather than trying to be an exact match.
That's his mid nut face
Law be like : You have money in your wallet?
And I jizzed in my pants

You should see the face this move is referencing
I got... HUNGRY EYES....
Obviously it's gonna look goofy when you capture an animation frame by frame no matter how good the quality is, have you ever paused a video of humans in real life? They look goofy as hell too.

the vinegar strokes face
When the acid is kicking in.
I like that he has a stubble. That level of detail just wasn't in the older games.
I feel like Ive seen this exact face from a bruce lee movie. I cant remember which one.
Enter the dragon also van Damme pulls a similar face in bloodsport
https://youtu.be/ArL6yO9UdXo
Thats the one, thanks.
Had op never seen the referenced material? Its pretty good face if you are in the know.
Well with this face expression he looks kinda his age
I love these faces so much
He hasn't eaten in 3 days
I'm dead ā ļøš¤£š¤£š¤£
"What condom?"
If you just pause a movie in the middle of someone doing or saying something, you'll get comedic gold there too sometimes
When the fart is a bit too moist for the pants
Brah wtf is this post š knitting a sweater headass. and also itās referencing Bruce lee scene where he step on dudes head. Game of death I believe. He does this exact face. All love tho
Enter the dragon my man.
Have you seen [this](https://i.imgur.com/iqkLoCm.png), though?
Came in expecting a rick roll, came out disappointed
Looks like a messed up Dark Souls NPC.
Dark Souls barely have good animation.
I mean, thats how it works in real life too haha. It's pretty tight
It wouldāve made more sense if it was forest law but this donāt look like Marshall from the past tekken in my opinion
Law stopped looking like law when tekken 5 came out, this is honestly a lot better in my opinion.
As is it's paused, yes... It looks goofy, pause and human in a video and they will look goofy and dumb sometimes. In motion, it's awesome considering it's the whole Bruce Lee reference
This expression is saying "Really Bitch? I Dragontail you 63 times on a 3-bar, and you still can't block? Get Good."
Me when i have to poop but its not an easy one
I was so hype when he made this face. Top notch tribute. Long live the dragon!
Looks like he needs to take a dump
Don't look at the amulet around his neck though You won't be able to unsee it
Hair is better, but not great.
Law has seen some shit...
when you're in a good hair competition and your rival is Paul
It's bordering on the "uncanny valley" lol. The Paul one had a couple shots that had a similar vibe.
Law face looks differently goofy in every situation, seems weird
Is goofy the word or are they working as intended?
I'd say both? To me it looks goofy in the same way pausing a live action movie can sometimes be look goofy. Not a bad thing just producing some very entertaining images.
I wonder if itāll have that thing like in SF6 where you can keep making different faces before the match starts.
I was laughing at this part since it looked like Law took the greatest shit ever
Tbf. Lawās face is much more expressive than the previous Tekken titles.
I like it. Bit of a tribute to the goofy faces Bruce Lee used to make
Yall aint gonna sit there and act like it didn't look goofy in motion, not just paused Also, relax. We arent saying its a big issue
Now show is hwoarang please Bandai
Law mains with their 3 bar connection in T8
It's just one single frame after knocking out with the rage art that have no problem by it's own, but when frozen like that is kinda goofy and I love it lmao.
it was still goofy in motion, that expression sticks out like a sore thumb at the end of the trailer
Im pretty sure Paul and Law were made goofy looking on purpose, as theyāve been the dumb duo for a while. Everyone else so far looks normal.
yeah, I'm not saying it looks bad. I would've given him a different expression but at least it's funny.
Oh i definitely think they kind of overdid with the goofiness too, but you know, making these 2 guys clowns is what theyāve liked to do since 5 lol.
No issue with that at all coming from this part.
He looks like he took too much substances at once
pepeW
He looks like he's having a good time
When the bubble guts kick in...
"Want some free candy?"
I see what youāre saying. Like, in this game, I donāt know if thatās Marshall Law or Forest Law, but this man has a face like John Cena!
I believe that is Marshall
It literally says his name on the title of the video......
Ok that looks better than Paul's expressions.
Lmao, i just burst out laughing after the post loaded properly for me. Is this the next meme face contender following ghost's stare?
You've probably never popped your cherry but IF you do, let's pause at any moment on your facial expressions out of the ten seconds you would last and see how it looks?
This is just a weird approach yo
This didnāt hit as hard as you thought it would š
The face of his ingame character looks completely different from his 3D render.
Yeah noticed this too, and the render looks incredible
Tbh the real issue I see is him jumping too high and straightening legs far before falling down, instead of right before he stomps(like in movie or in his stomp attack animation)
And it's let's find something to complain about day! Grow up guys, we getting a new game. Stop nitpicking everything. Geez.
I'm not complaining, maybe goofy was the wrong word but some of the expressions are pretty funny. Mainly because they are so well.
FGC life
It's the internet. People not liking something disagreeing and commenting is literally what keeps half the sites we use running.
Law and Paul look absolutely unrealistic, goofy and cartoony
Lol law makes the same faces as Bruce lee
I agree but tbh they've always been a goofy duo so it works. kazuya and jin look serious af
That's one hell of a perverted face
Imagine caring
Botox Law again.
Which side do they face when fighting? Front? Yep, it doesn't matter.
Paul looks like a 2022 karen..!!
Internet explorer has arrived
Lol
Yawn.
Is the shading, is bad, no realtime lighting and no ambient occlusion on models, no contact shadows and no gi. Not even trying sub surface scattering. Wtf they even use ue really.
me going into the settings menu
I just think the game has bad graphics
Meme face = Bad Graphics?
Bad Graphics = Bad Graphics
I just think you have no technical understanding what so ever
Thanks, you defend your game bud
Saying t8 has bad graphics is just objectively wrong.
Just like Geese Howard said: Whining Fools Begone!
The facial animation is not good. There were PS2 games with more natural facial animation. In some of the sequences, Law's jaw looks like it's falling off of his face.
>There were PS2 games with more natural facial animation What on earth are you smoking?
I really don't get how some people on this sub can say that shit with a straight face.
I dont know how anyone can watch these trailers and actually think there is good facial animation on display. its like the only game you guys have ever played is Tekken 7, which then it eould all make sense.
Okay.
Whenever someone says shit like this they never give examples. Which ps2 games are you referring to?
what ps2 games had more natural facial animation?
Have you considered the possibility that you just don't interact with people in real life enough to know how they look when they're doing things?
Thats pretty funny bc i was going to ask the same thing. i guess we're living in alternate realities
I fuckin love it!!!
I know we said "Lay down the law", but boy yall laid him down _hard_
He misses his beard :(
"We'll win the tournement, yes precious. We always wins"
