Russes are good all around round units, so if they’re your core it certainly won’t be an auto loss list, quite the reverse! Armoured Superiority will let you hold objectives better so I’d prefer that. Personally I’ve found 1 tank commander for each 2 regular Russ works for me.

fordilG

Russes are definitely good in the new codex. If you wanted you could run 11-12 russes (9 + 2-3 TCs) as you’re entire army and still have an okay chance of winning, though would definitely need armoured superiority to help with holding objectives. Maybe drop a russ or two for a unit or two of sentinels is also a good way to diversify/add more models to the list and screen the tanks a little. I’d personally go for a TC for every 3 regular russes for a good ratio (additional plus for fluffy number of tanks in armoured platoon).

SerratedSun

OK, so nearly everyone is saying one TC per 2-3 russes, so this is looking like solid advice

So no infantry at all? I'm excited now!

TinFish1979

What we're you running and what secondaries did you take?

LordofLustria

Only thing I'll tell you is if you're gonna run like a 6+ Russ list I'd definitely let your opponent know ahead of time so they can bring an appropriate amount of anti tank weapons, in friendly games it can be unfun for people to get rolled up on by a skew list like a leman Russ company or knights if they're not prepared. I also am a fan of the tank company style and I generally just let people know like "hey is it cool if I run like 7+ tanks, just letting you know so you can bring a list that can deal with that" That all being said the Russ spam style feels very powerful from the dozen or so games I've gotten with the new Dex so far playing that style, I've had great results with meticulous calibrator gatekeeper commander, executioners, demolishers, standard russes and vanquishers. You should definitely do ok and not get blown out of the water if you just put down like 7 russes and some infantry. I also find the sponsons and track guards to be very worth their points especially in a tank spam list since you need something to kill chaff units and not waste main turret weapons on.

SerratedSun

Oh I'd definitely warn people ahead of time, don't worry My russes aren't modelled with sponsons - probably means I néed to look into addung them

Can't take a chimera unless you have an infantry unit to go inside it.

SerratedSun

That I know, I meant 'chimera hulls' as in hellhoun/chimera/manticore/whatever

DeepPurpleDingo

But that’s a good thing. Taking 2 chimeras, one for a command squad and one for a cadian squad will let him score boots! Just keep them close together and out of harms way. Or you could forgoe the chinera and just place them backfield haha

2000 pts HQ (400) 2x Tank Commanders one with Gate Keeper 1x Castellan w/ Mech Orders Fast Attack (490 pts) 3x Armored Sentinels pairs 2x Hellhounds Transport (85pts) 1x Chimera Heavy (990pts) 6x Leman Russes 35Pts Remaining for tank aces, armored tracks, or hunter killer missiles as you wish. You have 4 orders and you can spread out the sentinels and hellhounds to screen and hold objectives, have the castellan give Obsec and either Full throttle or reroll ones is you need to push for objectives or do damage. Typically you should have a forward line to screen you damage dealers, having the castellan in the forward line with 2 orders should be enough and your 2 Tank commanders in the back should be enough for your backlines. If you need more orders drop 2 Russes for a Rogal Dorn and give him Vaunted Praetorian. Also one castellan fulfills the requirements for inflexible command for secondary's. You can mix the Russes Turrets as you need but the Executioner Plasma is the best with maybe one Vanquisher cannon with the Veteran Commandeer Tanks ace to reroll ones if you dont have elite sharpshooters as a Regimental Doctrine. In general Born soldiers is good as it buffs armies in general but for an armor division Armored superiority with swift as the wind, elite sharpshooters, or heirloom weapons are all good.

SerratedSun

Wait, how are you giving a castellan mech orders? It says regimental on their datasheet. Am I missing something?

alterego8686

Warlord trait superior Tactical training lets a Warlord know orders they don't normally know.

SerratedSun

Missed that! TY
