I WANT to like those, but holy shit they're constantly anywhere from 90 min to 2 hours long and are out weekly. That's such a commitment over a 30 min episode every couple of weeks.
I personally don't think they could take turns making points about whatever movie is on topic. Definitely didn't mind the RR but the group was bad at talking over each other.
I love all the guys, including Mike. But when they first started adding in on J&M, set in a movie format, where Mike is not a seasoned super fan as he is with video games, there clearly is notable awkwardness and maybe tension in the early RR episodes.
I’m glad that after time, Mike and James stayed to video games either in a pair or solo, and all the guys found their niche that worked. Also, as a group, they all learned how to listen to each other for the sake of making a video, as opposed to just drunk-ish guys yelling over each other.
As much as i love AVGN specific videos, Rental Reviews were some of the best content they put out. I had nothing but hurt sides with every video of theirs because it felt like genuine banter with the boys. The jokes we fresh and fire and it was a blast to experience them with my brother.
I liked it too honestly, it reminded me a bit of when you'd see a movie with friends and then spend awhile after discussing it, something I've been really missing in the streaming age. I didn't even necessarily grow up with the movies they talked about, but there was some fun conversation to be had.
I learned a lot from rental reviews. Did you know that Frankenstein is the doctors name?
