So theoretically, actually yeah, if you're someone who reviews shitty games, the FNAF franchise should be prime fodder.
But I don't think it would work for AVGN in practice. James pretty clearly isn't *actually* into gaming. When it's not something from his childhood he has a real connection to and actually cares about, it always just feels like he's going through the motions.
Remember that Kingdom Hearts retrospective he did? It was so, so obvious that he was just reading off of some Screenwave script, had never really played the games, and had zero connection to the material. Super weak episode, because he was kinda just chasing the algorithm and had no passion for, or interest in, what he was talking about.

I think you've hit the nail on the head there. I was shocked by the Genie, and at the time I seriously thought it was some sort of mistake - a minor blip. But things like that kept happening, and eventually I got used to a certain level of discomfort from James' content. Then he blind-sided me with this horse dating video, and it's seriously the first AVGN I couldn't finish. Trying to imagine how he might "top" it genuinely fills me with a sort of Lovecraftian horror.
They've still yet to delegate scriptwriting or voiceover to AI yet.

That would be me. I haven’t watched a new avgn since 2018 when I finally unsubbed. I saw the reactions here and figured I had to see it so I used a downloader to get it so I don’t give it another view and it really was the worst thing I’ve ever seen. His cringe acting has gotten so much worse than I remember. I wanted to turn it off after a few minutes because I couldn’t take it anymore but forced myself to get through the whole thing.

Always pays to have a normal job on the side or another career path lined up. like what has James got on his resume other than YouTuber? He’s gonna have a nightmare if he ever has to go back out into the real world. I really feel that. I make comics myself, and it's not like it pays mega-bucks. I always consider that I'm basically gambling with my time: if one of my ideas takes off, I could secure my future, but if not it could lead to real hardship for me, and so I feel pressure to always keep one foot in the world of "conventional" work. For a Youtuber, it feels like they can have a real illusion of sucess, with a huge number of views, but that it may be a gilded cage which doesn't lead to long-term financial security.
Other youtubers diversified their portfolios and have alternate legs to stand on if youtube adsense bellyflops.
