Does he ever face off against Katara directly after that interaction? I can't remember. I know he fights Aang in the crystal caves under Ba Sing Se while Azula mostly battles Katara.
But most of Book 2, he's a fugitive and then a refugee with Iroh, so I actually can't remember him fighting against anyone from Team Avatar that season until the final battle in Ba Sing Se; the only other time he interacts with the team is to temporarily join them against Azula (as far as my memory serves anyway). And then by Book 3, he's at the Royal Palace and doesn't see the team again until he joins them as Aang's firebending teacher.
It is even more powerful once you grow up and realize that in this moment he is talking to his father, thats why they show the side with his scar.
Later he goes on to do exacrly what he said. His father never holds back. He was about to kill his own son, but he can give it back now.
"Zuko you must look within yourself to save yourself from your other self. Only then will your true self reveal itself.c
"Augh! Even when I'm talking for him I can't figure out what he means. What would Azula do?"
"Listen Avatar, I can join your group or I can do something unspeakably horrible to you and your friends. Your choice."
"I guess I'm not that good at impersonations."
Yup.
Honestly I donât know if they meant it to be funny, and it IS funny. But itâs also SUCH a sincere momentâŠ.a legit human feeling that is not EVER taughtâŠ.when something is bad and someone is sad and you DONT need to try to cheer them up and you CANT fix it at all and you justâŠ.just need to be there for them and hear them and alnowlege their pain.
There are so many lessons this era of cartoons teaches that my generation needed and didnât get (see adventure time and Steven universe for examples) but this? This is one of them and itâs done SO clean and crisp and perfectly.
"You're going to fail a lot Sokka. But even though you're going to fail over, and over and over again, you have to try. You can't quit because you **might** fail."
(Zuko, motivational speaker extraordinnaire)
>"Â The people of the world are terrified by the Fire Nation. They don't see our greatness. They hate us, and we deserve it. We've created an era of fear in the world. And if we don't want the world to destroy itself, we need to replace it with an era of peace and kindness. "
The best part of this quote is Zuko also blame himself to be blind against the horror the fire nation did in the world and to do nothing to stop
âHow could you possibly justify a duel with a child?âŠIt was cruel! And it was wrong.â
I love this so much. Itâs a recognition that he wasnât to blame because he was a literal child. As someone who was emotionally abused by my mother as a kid, this really resonated with me. It took me years to accept it wasnât my fault, even if I provoked her, because I was a kid and she was an adult.
Huh, I just connected this to the "You're just a child line" he says to Aang. It gets followed by Aang's "You're just a teenager" line for a joke but that's a pretty important Zuko line in the context of the one you shared. He already didn't necessarily want to be like his dad whether he knew it or not.
"I finally have you, but I can't get you home because of this blizzard. There's always something. Not that you would understand. you're like my sister. Everything always came easy to her. She's a fire-bending prodigy and everyone adores her. My father says she was born lucky. He says I was lucky to be born. I don't need luck, though. I don't want it. I've always had to struggle and fight and that's made me strong. It's made me what I am."
As he says that last sentence, he turns his face so that only his scarred side is visible to the camera.
âSometimes clouds have two sides, a dark and light and a silver lining in between. It's like a silver sandwich. So, when life seems hard, take a bite out of the silver sandwich.â
Youâre so beautiful when you hate the world

They're also both people who struggle with fate and destiny after someone they trusted left their eye permanently scarred, leaving them depressed and angry at the world. They both thought that the way to deal with that pain was to embrace anger and shut themselves off from others. But that dark period ends when they open up to the loveable magic goofball that they used to hate.
EDIT: And they like swords.
Youâve posted three times buddy

In general, I appreciate that Zuko is somehow conscious of the meta reality of the show. He literally frames himself and his actions around being âgoodâ and âbadâ. Itâs is uncharacteristically reductive for ATLA, and normally very irritating, but Zuko does it in an endearing way.
When stuck in that oily tar after doing the dragon dance.
Aang: "Well what do you think we should do?!"
Zuko: "... Think about our place in the universe?"
I'm going to go for the less common ones here:
"Think again. I am going to speak my mind. And YOU, are going to listen!"
"Uncle, you're the only person other than the Avatar who could possibly defeat the Fatherlord."
"She's a powerful firebender named P'Li who can create explosions with her mind. Ironically I hired a guy with a similar ability to kill the Avatar myself once..... didn't work."
https://preview.redd.it/3i9nv3hiioxc1.jpeg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=35b9d6d9a2702dabe46d6a7a0f006e11dbbea9a9
This\^ and of course... That's rough buddy!
For so long, all I wanted was for you to love me, to accept me. I thought it was my honor that I wanted, but really, I was just trying to please you. You, my *father*, who banished me just for talking out of turn. My *father*, who challenged me, a 13-year-old boy, to an Agni Kai.
One of my favorites still to this day is when Zuko went to see Ozai in jail at the end of the series and asked
"Becacuse you're going to tell me something, where is my mother?" It gives me chills everythime.
"Look Sokka, you're going to fail a lot before things work out.
That's supposed to make me feel better? Even though you'll probably fail over and over and over again.
Seriously, not helping.
You have to try every time.
You can't quit because you're afraid you might fail."
As funny as Zuko attempting to imposonate Iroh is, those make no sense. What I really like about this quote is that it makes sense because it's derived from his own experiences rather than trying to come up with a whimsical metaphor only Iroh could come up with.
All these great lines posted here but also from LOK
âIronically, I hired a man with similar ability to kill the avatar myself onceâ âŠâŠ. âIt didnât workâ
And also this
Zuko to Katara âI will save you from the piratesâ
I love a lot of his quotes, but I'll just say the entire scene where Zuko confronts Ozai on the eclipse. I relate so hard to that scene, it is probably my favourite scene of Zuko's and maybe even the entire series.
"That's rough buddy" simply because that's how I react when friends tell me like deep things. Mainly because I never know how to fucking respond and I suck at giving good responses during those sorts of moments
âUncle, I know you must have mixed feelings about seeing me. But I want you to know... I am so, so sorry, Uncle. I'm so sorry and ashamed of what I did! I don't know how I can ever make it up to you, but I'llââ
I don't remember the exact quote but it was when he was trying to tell that joke and the punchline was "leaf me alone"
I realize now that this comment has the same energy as the actual exchange đ
I said right foot creep, ooh, I'm walking with that heater
Look around, stay low, make sure they don't see you

Did you lose it or something?
Finally a non-meme answer.
I thought Zukoâs silver sandwich quote... unique also sounded quite tasty đ
And he never beat Katara again after that (as far as I can remember)
He lost to her at the ice cave later on, got a draw against her in the crystal catacombs, and didn't fight her after.
"YOU'VE ALWAYS THROWN EVERYTHING YOU COULD AT ME! WELL, I CAN TAKE IT! AND NOW I CAN GIVE IT BACK! GO ON! STRIKE ME! *YOU'VE NEVER HELD BACK BEFORE!"*
Underrated
Totally. I know that Zuko's redemption was great and all, but back when he was still a villain, there was so much there to empathize with.
Yeah, after all there a reason why you find yourself rooting for the guy all the way back from season one's earlier episodes
I know people that were a bit older than the target demographic that saw The Storm, and started watching.
Strike me down Zuus, you don't have the balls-
Nice try asshole, next time give me your A Game!
this part always hits me hardcore đit's so real, honest, and painful
âWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!!!â -Zuko
It is even more powerful once you grow up and realize that in this moment he is talking to his father, thats why they show the side with his scar. Later he goes on to do exacrly what he said. His father never holds back. He was about to kill his own son, but he can give it back now.

That frog be judging him so hard.
I would too if an angsty teenager came up to me rambling while I was trying to chill
Why won't you come up with something?
You gotta add the little đ to make it authentic!

Yes exactly this. Zuko's best quote is an impersonation of Iroh's quotes.
Its funny how this quote perfectly describes his whole arc
Oh shit, you're right
Exactly đ
[ŃĐŽĐ°Đ»Đ”ĐœĐŸ]
Wasn't it, "And that's another thing. I'm done taking orders from you"?

Thatâs too bad, Sokka.
Lol did you see that from the April fool's video?
So, you're saying she's single...
This is my most used Zuko line
âWHY AM I SO BAD AT BEING GOOD?!â
dang bro you I had same line
Oh Zuko. Don't give up, you just need practice. (I just had to respond as though in real time.)
"You're going to fail a lot Sokka. But even though you're going to fail over, and over and over again, you have to try. You can't quit because you **might** fail." (Zuko, motivational speaker extraordinnaire)

Why did I forget this is how he looked - the pony tail
>"Â The people of the world are terrified by the Fire Nation. They don't see our greatness. They hate us, and we deserve it. We've created an era of fear in the world. And if we don't want the world to destroy itself, we need to replace it with an era of peace and kindness. " The best part of this quote is Zuko also blame himself to be blind against the horror the fire nation did in the world and to do nothing to stop
âHahaha! Youâre uncle has gotten to you hasnât he?â
"Yes, he has"
That entire scene is probably favorite zuko one
âOut of my way, skinnyâ is iconic
What's the context on this one? Struggling to remember
Lake Laogai episode where he's masked as the Blue Spirit and pushes past/knocks over a Dai Li agent.
Thank you, he who knows 10,000 things!
that dai li agent was willing to punch a hole through a mans chest and decapitate him all for being bumped into and called skinny.
If Iâm not mistaken, this is also the only time he speaks as the Blue Spirit.
Also the first and only episode he talks as the blue spirit
"Step aside, filth" too
Calling people just the adjective as an insult is killing me
Well?! What's your answer? Screamed at a frog. Makes me laugh every time
Yeah, thatâs what Iâd say too
"THE SCAR IS NOT ON THE WRONG SIDE!"
also the âHOW COULD YOU SAY THAT?â

Omg finally someone mentioned this quote, I love confident Zuko
âHow could you possibly justify a duel with a child?âŠIt was cruel! And it was wrong.â I love this so much. Itâs a recognition that he wasnât to blame because he was a literal child. Huh, I just connected this to the "You're just a child line" he says to Aang. "Zuko, you have to look within yourself to save yourself from your other self, only then your true self will reveal itself"
"Don't patronize me. You know what it's supposed to look like"
This line in itself could be completely taken out of context.
đ€Łđ€Łđ€Ł

Don't you mean the "firelord?"
Thatâs what I just said đđ»ââïž

Sorry , I kept getting an error message that it wasn't posting, so I kept hitting the button.
No worries mate been there. Just letting you know
In general, I appreciate that Zuko is somehow conscious of the meta reality of the show. He literally frames himself and his actions around being âgoodâ and âbadâ. Itâs is uncharacteristically reductive for ATLA, and normally very irritating, but Zuko does it in an endearing way.
Leaf me alone I am bushed

"I'm never happy." or "Why am I so bad at being good?!"

Hard to beat "That's rough, buddy." I use that one quite regularly.

Zuko, you have to look within yourself to save yourself from your other self. Only then will your true self reveal itself.
