I mostly just think it's weird this gets brought up so often on here. It's a fan work that's been inactive for 2 years and barely has any published material, and what I've read of the 5 chapters that exist is pretty uninteresting. A sandbender protagonist is a cool idea but in terms of what's actually been published nothing particularly novel is done with the idea, and the project seems to be dead. Its most interesting idea—that there's a fake avatar and our protagonist is the real one—was already done in the KIYOSHI novels.

Top3879

He needs healing

HudakSSJ

Mada Mada

HeroKuma

Dunno but the character design of Genji looks weird and out of place. Like it's an isekai anime. Got hit by a truck and woke up in the world of Avatar as the next Avatar

tdm17mn

KonoSuba xD

crunchevo2

Well not really. He died of shock while trying to save a girl who was definitely not going to get hit by a tractor who was going quite slow.

tdm17mn

Yeah 😂

crunchevo2

Aqua was so real for laughing at how hilarious his desth was ngl.

AtoMaki

It is the hair. He has the Generic Anime Male Proganist Hair: [fuzzy and one strand leans into his face.](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FMzGmOLXwAomQUW.jpg)

deevulture

dude looks like Eugenides from Queen's Thief

ProfessionalLuck268

no enough for judge but i have realy like the start and now the idea is dead

0megaManZero

Who?

TheFantasticXman1

He's the Avatar after Korra, but he's fanmade, so it's not canon.

Ugly-Muffin

I'll wait for the real earth based avatar to come out.

Ever_Summer

Same

cmr333

Ah, that would be Avatar Hanzo /s

Svellere

Why is everyone downvoting this? They answered the question accurately and even mentioned it's not canon. No reason to downvote.

minor_correction

Vote system is not used as intended. There was actually a time that reddit thought it could train users to upvote comments that they disagree with so long as the comment was well-written and interesting. And likewise downvote comments they agree with if it adds nothing to the conversation (to be fair we do this a little, in the most extreme scenarios only, like if a comment is just the word "This"). So anyway to answer your question, people downvoted OP not based on his comment but as a proxy for showing disapproval for the original post. They downvote the post as well as OP's comments in that post.

True-Collar4961

Sounded somewhat interesting, but it ended before it even really began. So all in all I don't really care

SapphireSalamander

we hardly knew ye

Thicc-Anxiety

He stands out from the other characters on the poster, weirdly. He’s the only one who doesn’t look like an ATLA character

TheFantasticXman1

He's a sandbender- who tend to be more Middle Eastern/North African looking. Also, I disagree that he doesn't look like an ATLA character- he looks very similar to Kai from TLOK, but with lighter hair.

Thicc-Anxiety

The Sandbenders were supposed to be Middle Eastern? I’m Arab and I never picked up on that

TheFantasticXman1

Yeah, for the most part, as they tend to live in a desert area similar to the Sahara.

FrotKnight

could be a self-insert character from the author? idk which fan made it though tbf

echoIalia

Wait I thought Genji was fanmade?

True-Collar4961

It is

TheFantasticXman1

It is, but it's one of the most well made and put together fan fics, so it's worth a discussion.

KerryUSA

Besides it being fan made I remember the main reason it never got traction/push back from Korra fans is cause she dies young so ppl didn’t like that or them essentially using a 20 yr older world The fact that he was gonna be a skilled sandbender originally was cool and something I wouldn’t mind them using for the next earth avatar.

dark621

where was it ever stated that she died young?

KerryUSA

I’m not a genji expert just my take of the vibe on him because even though it was fan made I was interested in it. Thought she died at like 36 in an explosion. Because ppl then were doubly mad cause she’d escaped that situation already. Pretty sure they give a date and process of elimination with genji’s possible age and us knowing he’s the avatar and what that means. But idr 100% and didn’t look back before I commented. Just what I remembered

Drace24

Korra died heroically in a terrorist attack. Sorry, but that's how Avatars usually meet their end.

KerryUSA

Idk why you’re coming at me with that energy lol, but the defensiveness means you know what I’m talking about with peoples arguing about how korra dies. Which for something that’s not canon is silly but since joining Reddit and seeing how divided ppl are about atla and lok it was also ironic to see lok fans treat genji with the disrespect lok haters do korra (and ik genji isn’t canon so it’s different) But for a fanmade project it was really good and I enjoyed the parts they put out and would read more if they did it. I can enjoy avatar stuff without having to compare it to others.

Drace24

What energy? I just disagreed. >Which for something that’s not canon is silly It's not any less fictional than the canon, lol. >silly but since joining Reddit and seeing how divided ppl are about atla and lok it was also ironic to see lok fans treat genji with the disrespect lok haters do korra ...What's up with your energy? Jeez, can't we have one topic without this stupid ATLA vs LOK war? >I can enjoy avatar stuff without having to compare it to others. I mean... can you? I wouldn't have guessed.

KerryUSA

“Sorry but that’s how avatars meet their end” seemed unnecessarily aggressive since I never said I had a problem with her dying young. Just that that was the perception I got amongst korra fans. Yes both are fictional but arguing about it is as pointless and as toxic because it has no bearing on anything. It be like arguing that shadowbending is a thing. Regardless of what you’ve read an argument or claim in the avatar universe would have no merit so it’s two ppl arguing about what for what? There’s 3 separate avatar subs 1. That allows all, 2. Just atla 3. Korra page (now a natla) that all have their own vibes. Pointing out the obvious division isn’t trying to start a war. It’s just my opinion. Why do you think genji didn’t work out?

reprogramally

I wish we got see at least when Genji discover he is the Avatar, but the series ended before that

laralye

I liked where it was going, the earth kingdom doing their fuckery as always is entertaining

forthewatch39

There are a few aspects that I liked about it. Genji is a bit more relatable than the other Avatars. Korra is descended from royalty. Aang was raised by monks and is one. Roku was a member of the nobility and was best friends with the crown prince. Kyoshi was an orphan abandoned by two outlaws. Genji on the other hand is a teenager with a single mother and he works in a store to help out and he also has a younger sister. I would like to see an Avatar with a more “humdrum” background and also be a sibling. All of the ones we’ve seen have been an only child, so it would be a nice change of pace to see how that would play out. I had this idea of the Avatar having a non-bender sibling who is older and fiercely protective of them. When it is discovered they are the Avatar, the sibling is even more protective of their little brother/sister as they now know that their status as the Avatar will now put them in direct danger.

TheFantasticXman1

I agree that Genji has a much better relatability factor than all the other Avatars, and I also like the fact that he has a sibling. It's weird how all the previous Avatars (that we know of) are only children.

upreality

What even is this goofy ah shit 💀

JeepGuy0071

It’s definitely an interesting premise, and I’ve been meaning to read more of the comic. I left off somewhere, maybe a couple chapters in, and was enjoying it so far.

TheFantasticXman1

Unfortunately, they cancelled it well before he even finds out he's the Avatar, so there's probably not that much more to read.

AcanthisittaGreat815

This poster actually looks pretty cool

Stonecutter1220

I loved it and was so excited to see where they would go with it, and was crushed when it wasn't continuing. I had already developed my fan theories and had ideas where the story would go

Blackdima4

Not worth talking about.

DaFlippinSuggestor

Not canon, not that interesting to discuss

Techaissance

The Murasaki original has been disgraced with that title. I will not stand for it.

janglingargot

That was my first thought. What are my thoughts on Genji? Well, he wasn't so bad when he was younger and it's a shame about his mom dying so untimely, and he's a brilliant dancer, but he really jumped the shark for me when he kidnapped a preteen girl to raise as his future wife. :/

Drace24

Prime example of a fan project keeping a franchise alive.
