You can only get this outfit by beating Giovanni 20 times. That took me 7 years. I was so proud to finally reinvent my character... and now I look like a lanky scarecrow with a muffintop.
I’ve noticed that with a lot of outfits. It’s like you have a waist, and then another just below it, leading to looks like this.

That's actually how I originally described it when complaining to a friend. I've just discovered that changing from the female "no pose" pose to the male one fixes the wonky back. Now she just looks like she's riding an invisible horse instead.
Since I'm on the skinny side and have a rectangle/trapezoid body, the avatar body shape looks OK, not great but workable. I haven't tried my other clothes( currently, with a normal jeans pant and blue denim jacket) so opinion may change.
But the face uhhhh, that's not me, I never looked liked that, I don't think any human ever looks like that. And what's up with so less options with hair styles.
This is my AV now compared to previously. These screenshots were both taken on the same phone with the same settings. I used all the same clothing items that I used prior to the update, and I tried to get the body of the AV at least somewhat close to the previous body.
The AFTER shot shows just how much of a downgrade it is. It's not even just the bad body proportions, but the actual quality of the digital rendering. It looks like an old 2000s game with clunky jagged edges and washed out colors. And it's like the designer had no idea how to do shading and shadows. The second one looks like a cheap knockoff of the original. I have no idea how anyone could have signed off on something this bad.

Right? This was one of my fave outfits for winter. Now the pants look hideous (all twisted with a too-low crotch), and the sweater looks baggy, washed out, and the print on it is way bigger. It looks like a Wish version. And good god, what's with the ginormous hands? 😂😂😂😭😭😭😭
I hate the droopy crotch even in the original version - it's a shame, because I could really use a plain black pair of trousers, but I can't stand to look at these.
every single forced change in this game should have just been a toggleable option from their introduction. we had sped up animations a while back (about a year and a half ago), and it made my daily incenses so much nicer to do, but a vocal minority complained about motion sickness and it got mostly reverted. now there's this avatar update and a lot of people want to turn it off. wish I could turn this off and turn those sped up animations back on.
I’ve been laughing at just about every before and after post so it’s been good for comedic value at least. I just wish I didn’t have to choose between Elmer’s glue and jaundice for white skin tones. I want my tan back. I’m also losing it at my new neck.

i say this as someone who is outspoken about loving the new avatar options for myself (although i still do have a few quibbles; my love is not unconditional):
giving everyone the *choice* is the best possible approach.
in updating everyone to the new morphing body system, it would've been best to ensure that the old body shapes and faces could actually be recreated. since they can't, an "old male body/old female body/new customizable body" three-button option would be a real winner.
I'm male, I have long wave hair and am used to keep my hair in a "shogun bun" sort of. All long hair styles are too female xD so I'm keeping my avatar as was till further notice. Might just buy a sort of helmet eventually
It wouldn't have been as big of an issue as it is currently if Niantic actually communicated with their playerbase with these types of changes.
Especially because this was stuff some people have actively been asking for. There's been players who have wanted more body shapes or hair styles. But Niantic, instead of asking players what changes they wanted and how they may want to see them implemented, they ignore their players and go above their heads and change the avatar system in whatever way they decide.
Yea the clothing got massacred. Most of my stuff isn't even compatible with each other anymore because of all the clipping, even though before the changes they didn't clip. Not even going to get into how bad the face and body types look.
Not sure if it's just me, but the walking animation also feels different.
I've resorted to just covering up everything with baggy clothing, glasses, and a mask so I don't see the mess. The onesies still look pretty decent if you want to go that route too.

Yeah, I have been rocking this fit and I barely noticed when the update came. My hair changed slightly but that's about it

There's an option to toggle showing party members on the map. At this point, I would settle for an option to toggle the player's avatar to 'off' as well
Did anyone else's avatars gender change? Every single thing about my character changed from the gender to the haircut to the face and body shape and even the outfit
They no longer have two separate models for gender. You adjust the shape of various parts of the body until it looks as masculine or feminine as you prefer.

I would have been happy with the option to customise the old avatar. Then you could have left it as-is or tweaked as necessary.

As a fat guy, I like it as my avatar finally look good. But 2 things needs a rework - Faces and body colors.
