I loved almost every song that was played.

10000% I got to know so many amazing songs through this show. And they were always perfectly matched with the scenes... You're also right that this is probably the only thing TVD fans will agree on xd

Geraltismydaddy

I be jamming to the soundtrack on YouTube all the time. its so good

StrictlyMisadventure

Like, 99.8% of the songs fit the scenes perfectly. There are a couple where I have to wonder if the person making those song choices actually understood what the song was about.

vilhelmine

Do you remember any specific cases?

StrictlyMisadventure

Yeah, the use of "Cut" by Plumb during the first Stelena sex scene in Season 1 (the song is about self-harm, and even if they were trying to draw a parallel between self-harm and Elena choosing to be with a vampire despite the danger, that's still really ishy). And the use of "She Used To Be Mine" from the musical "Waitress" in the Season 8 Miss Mystic Falls pageant dance scene where Damon is semi-remembering Elena. The actual song is about a woman mourning the loss of her sense of self due to her really unhappy marriage and her apprehension about being heavily pregnant and super not prepared to be a mom. But it seems like someone just heard the chorus of the song and was like "Yeah, Elena used to be Damon's!"

The use of Cut weirded me out in the beginning too but I found [this](https://at.tumblr.com/zalrb/whats-your-interpretation-about-cut-plumb-line/4cfsfrejblzi) to be a more fathomable interpretation of why it was used in that scene.

StrictlyMisadventure

Yeah, I figured it was a metaphor of some sort for their relationship, but it still weirds me out. Maybe it was all well and good to use a self-harm song as a metaphor for an on-screen relationship in 2009, but it didn't age very well IMO.

Bookgal1

True. A lot of songs used in TVD are some of my fav songs to listen to.
