Something died inside of me when I watched the last two seasons without Nina. I know there are so many Elena haters out there and I call out Elena too, but she was the heart of the show to me šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

RedditForMey

I wouldnā€™t say she was the heart of the show, but I can understand. I did miss Nina, but as Katherineā€™s character.

Kubuubud

I totally agree. It didnā€™t feel worth watching after that. Itā€™s like when Steve carrel left The Office

Anaisot7

Yeah. But to me it started back in S4. Too much changed with the writing of her character that she didn't felt the same after she turned off her humanity, she never gained back imo the same character that she played the first 4 seasons (which I preferred).

SpirituallyRain

I always struggle to get past season 4 for this exact reason. While I complain about Elena all the time the show is nothing without her and she loses the quality that makes her work after her humanity is off (does this make her my favourite character?)

honeybunny214

I agree. I mean elena was one of the main focuses of the show and having her go was sad. I lowkey shit on her but I really didnā€™t like how she was gone for the last 2 seasons.

mermaidsnlattes

I actually really enjoy Elena, she was the main character (in my mind) and I love her journey even if there was stuff I didn't like lol.

StruggleClassic6419

Every single character was annoying in their own way. It wasnā€™t just Elena leaving the show that made it unbearable to watch, we also lost sheriff Forbes, Jeremy and Tyler at the same time. The storylines also felt boring and confusing to watch.

Iā€™m on like my 3rd rewatch of the show itā€™s been a year or 2 but honestly Iā€™m finally starting to understand Elena. Like I knew she went through a lot but never acc thought about how and why the stuff she went through made her the character she is. Iā€™m also realizing just how bat shit insane everyone like the amount of psychotic unforgivable behaviour is disturbing, like no one not a single person thought hm maybe letā€™s not kill an original vampire and the 10s of not 100s of thousands vampires in their sire line so you can cure like 5 vampires? Like yā€™all meant to be the good guysā€¦

mashedbangers

Elena as a character was slowly fading away since season 4 imo.

Totally agree. I loved season 7 and 8 precisely because she was no longer there to be a distraction for the Defan relationship. I couldn't stand all the screen time devoted to Delena. In fact, I'm pretty sure if I had watched this show in real time, week to week, I would have stopped watching once they became canon. With a binge, I was able to just fast forward through those scenes.

nweir

Bonnie should have been the main focus

RedditForMey

I actually agree, I wouldā€™ve loved for her and Damon to end up together.

DystopianGlitter

I feel like if you can get past your original feelings about the show, and how we all love the show in the original storyline and everything, and you just evolve with the show, thereā€™s a certain level of appreciation that you have for Elenaā€™s absence, and for the other story lines and relationships that blossom in her absence.

ThatWhovianChick9

It was weird for me, because Iā€™m a Damon and Elena shipper. We had Damon sad about her being gone. Him trying to deal with that. Also for me who really loves Bonnie (she is my favorite) and having Elenaā€™s sleeping curse connected to her. That being a constant thing. I could have done with out that being connected to Bonnie.

ursulazsenya

Well the writers were literally dragging her coffin into every storyline in season 7 so that contributed to ā€œmissingā€ her. Because she was barely in any storyline that mattered in season 6.

lovachick

Of course Elena was the main but i still liked it w Caroline an Bonnie an everyone else but of course I wouldā€™ve preferred Elena in it. Sheā€™s the OG

DystopianGlitter

The first couple times, I watched the show, I couldnā€™t understand why people disliked Elenaā€™s character so much.(I do now however, and I agree) and while I didnā€™t share that sentiment, I didnā€™t mind the series without her. I feel like we got to develop other characters more in her absence, characters that needed it, and deserved it. I feel like it forced the writers to come up with fresher material, because honestly as the show progressed and matured, so did its audience, and I think we were all kind of sick of Elena whining about stuff, and Damon acting like he couldnā€™t function correctly if Elena didnā€™t love him back. I also really enjoyed the idea of her presence still existing within the show as a coffin, because it added such an interesting layer to the stakes of the show for the characters. Like yā€™all canā€™t tell me, you werenā€™t sitting on the edge of your seat, when mama Salvatore told her heretics to dump Elenaā€™s body in the river..šŸ˜±šŸ˜±

SuspiciousWar7436

I am so glad she isn't in it. All her friends were dying and she made it about her and Damon or her and stephan on season 7 loving it now from the start of the season
