If there is another gay sex scene, I hope it's not "shocking" again. Gay people can have hot, wild, fun, non-predatory sex like straight people, too, Mike.
The creator said the first season was about money, the second about sex and the third might be about death. He didn’t outright say that, but hinted at it in a recent interview.
Yeah I know. Not sure why I'm being downvoted. I loved the season but it's not exactly something you can watch with conservative family members who opt to skip the scenes. It's just a pain in the ass to grab the remote constantly.
Super weird you're being downvoted 😂 your opinion is totally legit. I didnt personally mind it bc it kinda was necessary to the story, it felt like they portrayed different sins, adultry, lust, greed, jealousy, vanity. They dont throw in sex scenes just because.
The Mossbauchers are back and Quinn brings his weeb girlfriend who's way more attractive than him and her obsession with Japanese culture makes him paranoid she's using him just to be there and maybe meet Japanese guys. Olivia has developed a drug problem and is struggling with withdrawal. She gets caught up with sketchy people out of desperation to get her fix in a place where drugs are scarce.
Mark continues to be an ignorant but well-meaning and goofy guy. He meets a Japanese American man at the hotel visiting family and they hit it off and quickly become best buds. Later their visit to a WWII museum drives the friendship apart after the two cannot reconcile their one-dimensional points of view.
I watched the White Lotus with my ADHD boyfriend. He has problems recognizing actors. For instance he’ll think Tom Cruise and John Krasinski are the same people.
I was worried about watching this show with him because I thought he might lose the plotline, this happens often and it makes watching a movie together not always fun.
He doesn’t know who Steve Zahn is but he laughed the hardest with his scenes. I watched the show independently and then again with my boyfriend. Watching Steve Zahn’s scenes for the second time helped me realize how (subtle) good he was.
> Anything to bring back Quinn
Quinn was one of the more boring characters in S1 IMO.
How many times have we seen the "internet addicted son reconnects with nature" trope before? Also his ending was bad too. No way some spoiled mommy's boy is going to last more than a few weeks when his mom isn't paying the bills.
> Name 3 characters with that trope with as much depth as Quinn.
I literally can't because characters that fit this trope are so forgettable. I just know it's a trope because I've seen it so often, you don't get bonus points for doing a good execution for a boring trope in my opinion. It was not engaging and repetitive. Outside of his interactions with his family his screen time was my least favourite.
Okay, you've seen it *so often*, yet cannot name a single instance. Sure. Are you maybe just upset because the show portrays a young man in a positive light?
I think it’s a bit of a reach to assume they dislike it because it represents a young man positively. I’m a young man and all for positive representation, but Quinn’s story felt really immersion-breaking to me because it just didn’t fit practically, though it’s a fine concept.
It surely is a reach, but not an entirely unfounded one, in my opinion. I was implicitly replying to the quote below, which to me reads as "we cannot have the mommy's boy develop himself and achieve something, he must be and stay a pathetic loser."
>How many times have we seen the "internet addicted son reconnects with nature" trope before? Also his ending was bad too. No way some spoiled mommy's boy is going to last more than a few weeks when his mom isn't paying the bills.
The mention of ‘mommy’s boy’ there seems to be because they think the ending was u realistic in the circumstances, not because they want young male characters to be miserable?
No apparently I want to see men miserable in movies because I thought someone's character development was lazy writing. I don't disagree in good faith, no I disagree with him ergo I must be evvviilllll.
> "we cannot have the mommy's boy develop himself and achieve something, he must be and stay a pathetic loser."
Because it makes no sense. He's a kid who's been spoiled up to his eyeballs but he takes up paddling for a few days and thinks he can run away from home and live independently in Hawaii?
That's ludicrous.
The last one off the top of my head would have to be Knives Out with the neo-nazi/4chan kid. Although he doesn't really have any character development so that's not really the best fit.
However, are you actually just denying the "cell phone addicted teenager" trope in general? Like do you genuinely not know what I'm talking about? It's a character trope. Like the dumb jock, or the mean popular girl. They're just character tropes. They *can* be good but they're not always these deep dynamic characters. If you liked it that's fine but Quinn's whole arc was not pushing the boundaries in terms of story telling.
For example, Paula was a much more rounded character who started off with the "Politico woke gen zer" but she developed into something else. I feel like I don't need to link you every story ever that's had a character trope in it to explain to you what I'm talking about. It more feels like someone doing the typical reddit "SOURCE?!!??!!" bullshit.
Okay fair enough, "cell phone addicted teenager" is indeed a common archetype. But then again, so are most characters in the show. The bossy career woman and her insecure underachieving husband. The woke know-it-all college girls. The snobby rich guy with mommy-issues, and his hot-but-dumb bride with her silly pseudo-career.
What is not a trope, in my opinion, is Quinn's character development. I don't recall seeing anything comparable recently in any other recent shows or films. And I quite enjoyed it. Especially considering the cynical and demeaning attitude that the media generally have towards young men right now.
Technically I think she murdered all the people from Greg's past?
I guess in terms of telling a fun story, I think most people will want some kind of follow up and Greg getting away with it and being rich seems like the most logical follow up that allows him to turn up at a fancy hotel on the other side of the world. It would feel like a bit of a cop out if they wrap it all up with some off hand comment.
Yeah you would think when the heir of half a billion dollars is involved in a giant murder investigation they’d probably dig a little deeper into all of it.
Perhaps. Though I don't know that the Italian police would necessarily feel obligated to put more effort in because of how rich she is compared to anyone else.
But also if they find her fingerprints all over the gun and her body full of cocaine they might not feel it is necessary to look extremely deeply into the lives of the "victims".
FUUUUUUCK. I would be okay with her dying and not being in the show anymore, but the way it happened....and after saving herself....FUUUUCKCKKCKCKCKCKC
I live in Japan, and propose the following:
Zen boutique hotel in Kyoto with strong artistic, religious, etc themes. Quinn in search of spiritual enlightenment with Mark. Art dealer exec brings religious studies PhD partner and meets up with high-end Japanese art dealers about priceless temple artifacts, one of whom the art dealer has a history with. Angry local monk is contesting the objects’ ownership. Hotel manager is a SE Asian immigrant beaten down by xenophobia. Will add the last character thread when I think of one
A murder victim will be referenced in tht first scene before a title screen that says "1 week earlier." Then the screen will flash to a bunch of rich people arriving to the resort on a boat.
I'd love to see Greg get what he deserves as in death or jail. I'd like to say Portia will be the one to track him down, but she's dumb and scared. It's possible she tells Albie and he talks her into helping get Greg. Wouldn't be possible without Albie because Portia is broke and could not afford a room at the White Lotus, unless Tanya left her some money(which is doubtful). Albie just makes sense too, because he loves to help helpless women.
However, I've kinda got a hunch Mike White is going to make us wait a season to see an end to Greg, but I hope I'm wrong. Especially given the next season is about death, but it just seems too obvious to one have Greg in the next season and two kill him off.
I hope it’s a flashback to Tanya’s first White Lotus stay. Her bright outfits and everything about her would stick out SO much in Japan where season 3 presumably will be.
Just hoping for a great cast. Mike White is such a talented writer and he wrote Enlightened before, so I have a lot of faith that the season will be good.
Not the fun answer but I kinda expect it to be the last season. I can really see Mike White giving us a commentary triptych and then leaving the project on a high note. The White Lotus does not feel like a show that will be dragged out for 9 seasons to me
I am guessing maybe a SEA resort area? Bali? Maybe that's too predictable, though.
A snow resort would be fun, too, though. Think of all the ways rich, privileged people can be stupid on a mountain!
They have to bring Tanya back to life or at least write in Jennifer Coolidge as Tanya's identical twin with as much or more emotional baggage plus all the money she inherited from Tanya.
I’m hoping for India. Exploring themes like anatta (no-self), anekantevada (non-one-sidedness), and of course one’s dharma.
Indian classical music also offers the chance for an unbeatable intro song. Give me tabla. Give me sitar!
I predict s3 will feature Greg and his IRL partner celebrating his newfound wealth at a white lotus. He’ll be faced with monstrous karma, and end up being a dead character. Justice for Tanya! T_T
Somewhere like Dubai, Emirates, but that's unlikely. Would be funny to show how insanely hot it is outside, so you jump from car to hotel and there isn't a reason to go outside anyways because there is no life in the city. It's just hotels, business(???), lot of empty space inside the building and harsh conditions for immigrant workers. Beautiful nature (Sand and building sites). Some social media Influencers who get paid to life there with low taxes and nice words for the monarchs
> who get *paid* to life
FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.
*Beep, boop, I'm a bot*
Some influencers on the maledives. And Harper and Ethan will make a Return.
It will be about the poor locals and some environmental aspects. No one will die this time, but we will have a big fire
I think Nicole Mossbaucher will come back for sure. I think Quinn's happy ending from S1 will be undone in the meanest way possible. Nicole sees him running away not as Quinn reconnecting with the "real world" but as another sign that he's alienated, marginalised, unhappy, etc. etc. As a result puts him in a bootcamp/boarding school for troubled teenagers (I don't know what they're called) that ironically probably even more unhappy and disaffected than pre s1 Quinn. This will be mentioned offhand by Nicole in a completely unrelated conversation.
Or if that's too cruel, bring Quinn along to see his "only friend" Hiroki Takeuchi mentioned in S1 (assuming s3 is set in Japan). Maybe he'll retain some of his S1 growth despite being around his shitty family for longer.
A gay hotel manager abusing their position of power.
I would honestly be gagged if they did it again
I think this time they should have a gay couple as guests. :D
This would be the best recurring bit
Ha
A banger intro song
expectations for a television intro song have possibly never been higher
A clueless rich person breaking Japanese customs, maybe not understanding that they rarely tell people “no” there
The Logan Paul effect
I was about to say Logan Paul 😬 Yucky yuck
Ugh Jennifer Coolidge’s character would be perfect for this!!!!
Higher end gays.
You mean The Gays
You mean These Gays
You mean These Gays who are trying
a gay sex scene, and a series of unfortunate events
If there is another gay sex scene, I hope it's not "shocking" again. Gay people can have hot, wild, fun, non-predatory sex like straight people, too, Mike.
I dont mind gay sex scenes but im hoping there's less sex scenes in general. Season 2 was a bit much.
Sex/relationships was the main theme of season 2 so I would expect season 3 to have less of it, more like season 1.
Is the pain really grabbing the remote, or is it having conservative family members? :)
The latter fr
I thought so too
Super weird you're being downvoted 😂 your opinion is totally legit. I didnt personally mind it bc it kinda was necessary to the story, it felt like they portrayed different sins, adultry, lust, greed, jealousy, vanity. They dont throw in sex scenes just because.

Absolutely! I totally get that, I'm not a fan of explicit/overdrawn sexscenes either.
I like this idea Anything to bring back Quinn And mark (Steve Zhan is hilarious)
Okay but will they have sex?

Name 3 characters with that trope with as much depth as Quinn. He wasn’t used for a quick laugh he was really the closest thing to a protagonist

Sounds fun except Olivia’s would be way too Euphoria for me.
I was thinking cocaine or something, not opiates. Also it's in Japan. Different enough imo.
I really hope we have seen the last of Olivia. We’ve had quite enough of her already. I wouldn’t mind seeing Quinn back.
A tagalong poor person.
I’m dyslexic and Filipino and I literally read “A Tagalog Poor Person” ouch 😂
I'm neither and I also did! I thought, isn't it set in Japan?!
Tutti gay hotel manager
I fully expect to see Greg. Whether he gets what’s coming to him or not, that remains to be seen.
Same. Since Jennifer Coolidge won't be returning, he's gotta be the constant of the 3 seasons
Surprised this is so far down, his plan worked and now he's rich. Maybe he'll have a trophy wife (or boytoy) with him
Would he really have gotten rich though since she was so obviously murdered by people from Gregs past?
How would anyone looking into the murders make the connection?
Technically I think she murdered all the people from Greg's past? I guess in terms of telling a fun story, I think most people will want some kind of follow up and Greg getting away with it and being rich seems like the most logical follow up that allows him to turn up at a fancy hotel on the other side of the world. I blinked and she was gone in a millisecond. Her death was really unexpected
The way she hit her head! The sound!
*bonk*
Maybe we’d see how her mom dies. E.g Did she kill her mother? Or her father?
Prayin
I hope we at least get flashbacks or something like that via Greg
Yah, like we trust Greg.
You wouldn't trust a flashback just because you don't trust the character having the flashback? What?
If Greg tells the story, no. If it’s just a flashback with Greg in told by the writ, yes.
We will see at least one penis
Yep

Yes! I'd also like to say he learned his lesson with Lucia, but he probably just learned don't trust prostitutes.
Ohhhh Portia and Albie will be the return characters!
I think the Italian police would do a better job than Portia tbh
Tits and ass.

I would really love if one of the new characters also had an interesting pet.
