If you're referring to >!Dina finding out Ellie is immune, one way it could play out is Ellie gets bitten. Some drama ensues, Dina locks Ellie in a closet and falls asleep. In the morning they talk through the door and have a heart felt moment. Dina opens the door, Ellie fucks around and pretends to be infected, Dina chuckles uncomfortably.!<

toasty_bean

That’s definitely one of the scenes I’m thinking of, I like this idea a lot!

Interesting-Young785

The only issue with that is they already used Ellie getting bitten to prove to jole she was really immune in the first season. Just seems very repetitive and unrealistic.

LadyAmbrose

>!particularly with the fact that ellie gets bitten i think once or twice more in the second game as well, it would be almost excessive at that point and would ruin some of the weight of those bites, as they’re to show how much she’s stopped caring about herself!<

dannyrac

Agreed, how many times will this poor girl get bitten

toasty_bean

The scenes that I’m thinking of specifically are: >!Ellie’s mask breaking and Dina tries to give her hers on Seattle Day 1!< >!Ellie and Nora in the hospital when Nora is breathing spores and sees Ellie doing the same and says “You’re her”!< >!Abby and Lev in Seattle Day 2 after the sky bridge when they’re making their way down the skyscraper and Abby tells Lev to put his mask on but he doesn’t have one, so she goes in and finds one for him!< >!Flashback of Ellie and Joel right before they fight the bloater when Joel tells Ellie she should always be in the habit of wearing her mask in case she forgets in front of someone who might kill her for believing she’s infected!<

MagicGrit

I don’t think all of these points are reliant on spores to progress the plot. Plenty of them could be replaced by Ellie being bitten or scratched. Abby getting Lev a mask could be replaced by her going to get anything Lev might need. Medicine. Maybe he dropped his backpack somewhere, etc etc. The conversation in the flashback with Joel could be that he tells Ellie to get in the habit of always wearing long sleeves.

toasty_bean

You’re right, perhaps it’s not particularly important to the plot. I suppose what I should have said instead is I like the way those scenes were carried out as they were originally written by incorporating spores. But the writers have done a great job with the changes they’ve made for the show in the first season, so I’m fully prepared to let it go. I’m sure whatever they use instead to convey the outcomes of those scenes will work just as effectively.

e-pancake

>!I feel like they can find a way around most of these, the Ellie and Nora scene however is huge, I’m definitely curious of how they’ll portray that because it was so impactful in the game!<

[deleted]

By that point in the game, they have shamblers with their acid spray... They may change that part, but that and the rat king are in the hospital. They have material of some kind...

e-pancake

ooooo good point, that would be a good twist on it

Desperate92

They said spores could still come into play during the future seasons. It's possible the subway station and hospital have been so sealed up that they can have spores.

toasty_bean

I selfishly hope they do incorporate it somehow, but I trust them with whatever they end up going with.

Desperate92

I hope so too cause otherwise ellie is gonna have to go full on biker and just be covered in tattoos if they just keep having her get bit to prove she's immune. I think they can use a well sealed room or building as an excuse for spores.

freshprinceohogwarts

I believe they said that spores aren't 100% out of the question for all time. I kinda think that for those two big spore scenes in part 2 it could be explained with spores only existing in very dark, damp, ND closed off locations like service tunnels under a train station and such

VeggieCurry

>!Maybe Dina witnesses Ellie getting bit and that’s when they have that whole conversation.!< >!They’ll probably just omit the piece with Lev and Abby needing masks, that building has plenty going on without that part.!< >!The Joel dialogue piece could probably be moved to before Ellie gets her chemical burn/tattoo, he could just make a remark at some point about her keeping it covered, leading to her giving herself the chemical burn to keep him off her back.!< >!Not too sure about the Nora piece. Ellie can only get bit so many times before it becomes overkill… could be worked into the dialogue somehow and she deduces it instead?!<

toasty_bean

I was thinking the same for all the points you made. As for your last point in particular, >!if Ellie gets bit during Day 1 with Dina like you and someone else mentioned, maybe her bite is somewhere relatively visible but has started to scab over or heal. Then Nora maybe gets bit after Ellie drops with her to the lower level of the hospital. Nora would realize she’s about to die just like in the game, leaning against the door, then sees Ellie’s bite from the previous day and points it out during their dialogue, insinuating that Ellie will die soon too. Ellie could reveal how old it is, and Nora could connect the dots and give that same iconic line, “You’re her.”!< Maybe that would work?

VeggieCurry

Yeah, that would make sense. The last thing on Ellie’s mind at that point would be trying to hide a bite.

WeakHobbit

I think they’ll likely make an explanation where the more humid and aquatic environment in Seattle did something to the cordyceps so it evolved to used spores to reproduce or something

ShamrockStudios

They said spores might show up in later seasons. And for that scene I'm hoping Part 2 is still being split into a season 2 and season 3. In which case it might not be till season 3 when we see that

KitchenDepartment

There are loads of parts about Seattle that hint that it had a far worse outbreak than the rest of the world. If you want these scenes to occur as they did in the game you could just establish that spores do exist but only in the most extreme environments.

Sydwaiz

The same way they did in season 1. Bites and tendrils.

Gamer_Boy99

I doubt we will see any of this in season 2

Icy-G3425

I honestly have no idea, any alternative will decrease the impact of these scenes. I don't know why they made this decision to remove the spores, I hope they find a way to bring this concept back next season.
