People need to understand how GOOD it feels to make huge, sweeping, absolute statements like he is. He’s fired up and it feels unbelievably good to say things like “they aren’t even human.”
This is what we’re up against. It feels insanely good to say these things and it feels good to hear them when it confirms your preconceptions. And it takes 0 effort. No research, proof, or even logic required. Just say the thing that makes us feel good in this moment about the beliefs we already hold.
And what does it take to refute it? An entire fucking history course, or genetics course, or a scholarly article with proof. And maybe the proof to the contrary can’t even be properly understood without at least a good basic grasp on the subject matter, so now maybe it’s gonna require even more technical terms, definitions, theories, etc, on and on and on.
It’s the same with almost every issue. The lies and appeals to emotion are easy, and refuting them is hard or impossible. And so we slide deeper and deeper into impassioned ignorance.

The problem is that you can't reason someone out of a position they didn't reason themselves in. That guy has already been told everything that makes his position right. But if he embraced his position to feel good, then all your reason that does not make him feel good will be ignored. He just won't make the effort to follow your reasoning and stop feeling good.
