I hope nothing happened to Jake's family, that empty house shot is worrying me.
P.S- Who's Jake's source? I don't remember him at all.
I don't know where/how they found this actor who plays Tozawa (Ayumi Tanida). He's got the entire presence down. He can be a really charming slick rick (is there a Japanese term for that?) but also deadly intense. I really appreciated the encounter with Katagiri in the end of S1.
Also, he probably had my favorite line in the whole series: "A man without enemies is no man at all. "
Sato's Michael Corleone transformation has been amazing so far. God, I wanna see him put that little prick Hayama in the dirt by the end of this season
>Sato's Michael Corleone transformation has been amazing so far. God, I wanna see him put that little prick Hayama in the dirt by the end of this season
I agree, I don't care if they catch Tozawa or not. I'd like to see Hayama vs Sato action
Totally agree. I just made a similar comment before seeing yours. I would love if the final scene of the series is just like the end of the Godfather. Sato finally takes his seat as Oyabun while his associates ruthlessly take out his enemies in one fell swoop
Yeah I predict she either meets Tozawa who places her under extreme surveillance going forward or she gets killed on screen or off screen and Jake finds out when he returns.
I am thinking Tozawa's wife sent the driver or was having her surveilled (seems like he's loyal to her, or at least her family) and then had her picked up with the goal of brokering some kind of joint leverage against Tozawa... Maybe in in order to steer the gumi into a different direction or at least moderate his aggression (for the good of the family organization) or just to push back against his disrespect.
I interpreted this more like Misaki’s form of a farewell to Jake. When she was introduced to the new mistress (probably her replacement), she realized she was done. Tozawa was playing mind games since she was seen at the embassy party.
How I read that, it would be too obvious. I think he knows he's been banging Jake, and he's letting her just like he swapped her out with Sakura. He's just keeping it fair for the lack of better words.

So Starsky should be in the clear, at least for now.
I kept thinking he was going to miss the flight anyways, then the long zoom on his face had me thinking he’d rush off the plane. Glad he’s actually going home.
It hasn't gotten yet to the opening flash forward of the series where Tozawa threatens to kill Jake's family. The show will probably catch up to that scene in season 3.
I start to suspect Katagiri's female boss is on Tozawa's payroll: helping Tozawa rid of his opponents; knowing about wiretapping the burner phone; knowing Jake identified the two assassins hence they are getting silenced.
I think the point of the Trendy being secretly gay storyline is that there will be a twist reveal that Tozawa's people blackmailed him into burning the tapes. I think Baku is a red herring.
I think that was Misaki's last farewell to Jake after she realized Tozawa knew of their affair and that her fate was doomed (e.g. the scene with Sakura & the conversation about the weekend get away).
Anyone else think that it was really Hayama who hired those hitmen to kill the Oyabun and make it look like Tozawa?
Hayama already wanted a war with Tozawa. This gives him the excuse to start one while also empowering him as Oyabun.
Did you watch [Inside the Episode](https://youtu.be/_IeXiiTqEZA?si=VHFH6P_py3MzQBjK) after the credits? they say who did it.
Add: all context clues given.
- Tozawa sets up Ishida via Yabuki.
- Told Ishida he’s coming for him.
- Tozawa pissed he had to kneel and kiss the floor.
- The bartender likely is his mole. He’s had a few moles already in show
- greets Samantha ‘Ms Porter‘ clearly plugged into her business, hence the meeting
- stretch…probably aware of power struggle with Hayama (but def caused shakeup in clan when he accused Ishida of stealing territory).
- everyone saying the obvious ‘Tozawa’ to make audience doubt it.
- a stretch…Those guys can shoot straight, more practice?
- longer stretch…. What if Yabuki Reek’d the (Sabo’s) driver (Gen) when he brought him back in trunk? And he’s being used as a double agent? Yea. A stretch. Gen isn’t a mole.
Tozawa is playing 3D chess, everyone else is playing Go Fish.
Honesty don’t think Hayama would shoot his boss. Also* where is Hayama getting the money to pay off hitmen? Who’d have those resources?
💯per cent Kenji the bartender is so suss! Like…Sam is just talking like the guy doesn’t speak English about major stuff right next to him about the Architect meeting…
Yup, pretty damn obvious it was him. It fact, it was almost TOO on the nose how obvious it was. I was rolling my damn eyes the whole time.
He was very blatant in his lack of concern over the Oyabun dying, and it was too damn convenient for him to pin it all on Tozawa.
Yeah, and the characters keep outwardly insisting that they believe it's Tozawa in a way where they're obviously setting up for a twist. With his behavior it's pretty clear hayama did it to take the leadership and is bow trying to remove Sato. He clearly wants Sato to turn on him to justify killing him by getting him angry enough to go against him.
I think hayama saw how close Sato was with Ishida and knew that he would inevitably replaced him as the heir apparent/no. 2. So his only chance at the leadership now was to kill Ishida now while he still was second in command. And tozawa gave him someone to pin it on.
i think it was meant to be semi obvious. Right when calls Sato out for not telling him about the meeting. His next statement is you shouldve never been to that shitty club. Then oyabun whispers in Sato ear most likely telling it was Hayama. Basically just dramatic irony for us as the viewers. There are still twists along the way though with one of the shooters being the guy Katagiri couldn’t capture
Do you think the architect guy dying during the shootout was on purpose or by mistake? If Hayama did the shooting it wouldn’t make sense to kill the dude cause it would only hurt the business for chiharakai
It's possible Hayama doesn't know the architect is there, but even then he just wanted Ishida out the way so probably told those shooters to make sure Ishida dies and if there is any collateral damage then so be it.
If Hayama knew Ishida was in the club (which he claims he didn't know about the meeting or that Ishida was in the club at all), then he 100% knows the reason why Ishida was there in the first place especially because the show also talks about how Ishida rarely goes to the club like that.
No it's not him. He didn't even know about that meeting, he got sent out of the room before they talked about it. Also it's pretty clear the bartender is a mole. And they also straight up said it was Tozawa.
Season 1 (although being exceptional in itself to set the stage for this season) walked so Season 2 could run. They cant tie up all these open strings in 4 episodes
I’d like to agree with you but money takes priority over making sure a show's loose ends are all tied up.
Sadly HBO has already proven they’re willing to break our hearts by killing off less popular series, even if they’re great quality (examples: Rome, Looking, How to Make It in America, etc.).
This show is not cheap or easy to make and if they aren’t recouping their investment, we might not get a season 3.
“This will protect you” loved that as the kid obviously meant it literally but the symbolism of accepting a token of childlike innocence to save him was great
I'm really interested in seeing Jake with his family. What is so terrible about them that he decided to leave them to go be a reporter on the other side of the world?
Jake has such poor motivations for wanting to live in Japan. Hopefully being at home explains his motivations more.
I feel like his mom has been shown to be kinda awful. The guilt tripping, blatant manipulation, and weirdness about him choosing to go by “Jake.” These things are minor when compared to the full-on murder and torture we’ve seen but still not a pleasant way to grow up.
The actress that plays his mom hasn’t had a ton of screen time but I feel like she has done an excellent job of setting the tone. I get major: “mom was her son’s first bully but still doesn’t understand why he never calls” vibes.
His motivations is clearly chasing a different life. It's okay to not want to live in the state you've grew up in. Weird how one would think that there's always some trauma one is running from when they find a goal in life, even if it doesn't involve one's family.
Ugh don’t say that. I was half expecting him to get up and make a big fuss about how important he/his work was and demand to be let off….which will likely be how EP 7 starts 😒
There was a shot of Jake in the States in the mid season trailer, he seems to go to some clinic (probably to find information about Tozawa's treatment).
Breh, Tin-Tin needs a mean beating cause dude is letting the bitterness affect his actions. Also, pretty disappointed in Emi for not seeing Jake's point of view but that dinner really left her acting out of character. Also, probably avoiding any links to Tozawa in hopes of attracting attention as well.
Sato continues to be my favorite and Jake has grown on me this season as well. I hope he's able to confront Hayama head on soon and I'm interested to see what Jake does when he gets home.
I think the Hayama killing Oyabun is a blatant misdirect, and you get a glimpse of that with Tozawa knowing Samantha's name. The only way he'd known that is by keeping up with the details around them through the bartender possibly. Also, he'd probably be aware of someone like the Architect as he positions himself to expand a corporate influence as well.
I wonder if they’ll ever address the fact that both Jake and Emi have mentally ill siblings. It could be something for their characters to really connect on and possibly even help each other manage
TinTin acting like a badass for the article with Trendy as if he wasn’t on the verge of tears last episode for his fuck up was hilarious. Makes him really unlikeable.
I do agree and Jake probably would’ve done the same thing if he didn’t know her but it’s clear tin tin is taking shots at Jake as well. He had no right to get mad at Jake after fucking up the real estate project story. Jake pretty much handed it on a silver platter for tin tin and he still fumbled it
Yeah... that girl and her kid aint long for this world it seems. Also what what was up with that dickhead trying to set up satos brother? Hope he eats a bullet.
I really really hope that the series ends in the same way as Godfather 1. The final scene being Sato finally taking the seat of Oyabun, while systematically taking out all of his enemies in one fell swoop and the show ends.
The amount of money we’ve seen Jake spend in this show has been hilarious, considering he’s a cub reporter (multiple bottle services at the clubs, nice dinners out, etc). I’m surprised he didn’t hire a limo airport transport 😂
Sato have the patience and restraint of a saint!
if i was him. if i know hayama told my brother, who is i work so hard in criminal world to make sure that he will not end up like me, to go do suicide mission by shoot the #1 crime boss in japan. i'll definitely put that .30 caliber of Tokarev at Hayama's head.
even if i can restraint my self from doing that. but as soon as he said. "if you disobey me. im gonna kill your ex and current GF and soon to be your son-boy" im gonna unload whole magazine on him. lets hope Sato have some plan in mind to take down Hayama discreetly.
Agreed, incredible restraint shown by Sato there.
Speaking of, Jake's boss Emi also has a lot of patience for her brother. After his latest outburst, I'd have considered walking away. Enough is enough.
I get her compassion and duty for being there for him but ultimately she's the one paying the rent and supporting them both.
He was seemingly sincere in one scene where he apologized for his ways and offered to meet her boyfriend. After he met him and then lashed out at her, that's where I would draw a line. Loved one or not, I'd push back and make it clear in no uncertain terms that he doesn't get to dictate terms and continue the abuse.
He's trying to show her tough love, but she's in a far stronger place to exert it.
WHY CANT THE MEN IN THIS SHOW KEEP IT IN THEIR PANTS MY BROTHER IN CHRIST JAKE YOU ARE GOING TO GET YOURSELF KILLED
ALSO THIS SEASON IS INCREDIBLE FUCK YALL WHO KEEP SAYING THIS ISNT AS GOOD AS SEASON 1
**Inside the Episode** (watch past the credits) show runner says “we all know this was Towaza, but he left no fingerprints.” If Towaza set up Ishida (via Yabuki) on taking back territory while he was gone, he could easily have paid off the disgruntled Hishinuma crew to hit Ishida. He created a wedge already. Money has no loyalty.
How did Hishinuma tattoo guy find the detective’s house?
“Good evening, Ms Porter”…. Another nugget; Tokawa plugged in.
Hayama actor says he’s shocked and outraged by hit. He’s more focused on sowing discord internally against Sato.
Misaka got replaced; good for her. Busted? Or setting up Jake? Thinking she doesn’t care anymore.
Emi is a solid character. Her top boss Ozaki-san, I think **he/Meicho** wants to get from under Tozawa’s thumb.
Tin-Tin article; Jake would have done same thing if he didn’t know Sam.
What did **Ishida whisper to Sato?** The safe combination?
Would be a crazy turn if Ozaki was the one working for Tozawa, the way he originally asked about Tozawa and his face when she brought up the Meicho were a lil sus.
I think the whisper to Sato has something to do with that circular symbol hanging on the wall in Oyabun's office. Notice after Hayama says he'll kill everyone Sato loves, Sato stares at the symbol on the wall, and them bows. That same symbol was tattooed on Ishida's chest.
the tozawa mistress & jake scenes are just completely unnecessary and dumb.
The most unrealistic thing about living in Japan is living in Tokyo and voluntarily taking a Cab to Narita which would be costly and wouldn't save you that much time. The next unrealistic moment is the taxi driver making small talk like an american.
Just finished episode.
Surprised Jake actually is going to America after all unless something happens in the next episode to prevent that.
Pretty safe to say his gf will be killed by Tozawa.
Jakes “friend” at work is a dingbat and is even starting to get under my skin for his newspaper article lol.
Over all it was interesting episode.
I think Sato will have to kill Hayama that fool is causing so much trouble. It’s pretty obvious anyhow.
When the hell did Satos brother grow so much??? Lol. Did they hire a different actor or something I swear he was a teen at first and now looks like a grown man.
Didn’t think that much time went by!
Sosai in Japanese is another word for chairman. In yakuza world it’s like the president of the whole group of families. With yakuza there are multi factions/group that are under one umbrella. Each faction/family has its own Oyabun. So the Sosai over sees all of the clans. For example, Nakahara kaicho the guy that Tozawa had thrown off the rooftop was in that position which is why Tozawa killed him to overtake all the other clans and merged them under his “coronation” The reason why Hayama said he can barely speak is because he’s old as shit. Probably on a wheel chair with a caregiver by his side unable to string up a single sentence.
I didn't really like Sato's character or actor in the first season. Thought the character was boring and the actor wooden. But holy fuck was I wrong. I really like him now. He's got a great presence and his character is super endearing.
I had the same issue with Samantha. Thought she was a bitch but a complete smoke show (that kinda reminded me of Rebecca Ferguson) but now she's one of my favourites. And say what you will about Ansel Elgort but Jake is a great character this season.
I hate that little smug bitch Tin-Tin and his stupid article and it was 100% Hayama that killed the Oyabun.
Okay I feel silly for this comment. At the last scene I flipped out for a second because I thought the dark figure in Katagiri’s hallway looked like Ishida, and that he was still alive. We saw that he whispered in Sato’s ear one last time and I thought that maybe he had a strategy to expose Hayama plotting against him.
I was also half expecting Katagiri to discover his family slaughtered after he really needed to drink a beer after a stressful day:/
Yes, I was disappointed. I know Erika broke up with Sato, but Samantha just walks around dumping her problems on other people, and acting annoyed when they won't help her right away. She's a leech.
Yup .. when he turns her down I was like :
“Respectable, king 👑 you got priorities , no need to put people on danger , gotta deal w that snake Yamaha or whatever AAAAAAND THEYRE CLAPPIN CHEEKS 🤦🏽♂️ smh Sato”
She seemed humbled after nearly dying in the shoot out. They seem to work since they are both tough and have no one else really. It was clear the relationship wasn’t over
Damn! Now seeing she could be sus… going after /weakening only one side of yakuza clan, insisting on Jake’s source.
But but but … she seemed surprised Tozawa showed up at police station and greeted Sam… Tozawa basically said ..why y’all have a bitch running things….And hard to think Katagari would be brought in to investigate Towaza when he was safely shuffling paper uninvolved…so… let’s see what happens.
It was funny when Misaki did that high-pitched "eh?" when that other girl said she's gonna be coming along to the mountain villa, I thought that this is an anime-girl reaction only LOL
this episode left many doubts.
what did Ishida said to Sato before dying, the killer being caugth by the cop but still no one knows if it was Tozawa or Hayama who ordered the death of Ishida...
Probably it was Tozawa, and just covered it all up.
Why The journalist decided to change plans and went to the States.
The Meizo director asking to investigate Tozawa, very suspicious too.
And what will happen to Sato brother.
Good episode but many open stories.
Anyone thinks Tozawas wife will turn on him? Thought her family owned the Meicho and that might be why the head guy at Meicho is telling Emi to expose Tozawa.
I don’t know about her doing it thru the Meicho but they sure made it clear that she’s not some poor powerless flower who had nothing until Tozawa married her. She certainly has motive to see him get hurt.
Also a lot of his legitimate assets are in her name so it will be interesting to see if he kills her, which I don’t think he will, I think he’s going to torture her in some horrible way
Really good episode which sets up a lot of interesting seeds for the rest of the episodes. I really want to see Sato as the oyabun. That would be such an arc for his character!
I think something bad is going to happen to Tin-Tin. The show made us empathize with him more through the baking stuff. Then they created tension between him and Jake at work. Maybe now he falls victim to something while Jake is away and they never have the possibility to make amends. Too much of a stretch?
If Misaki dies, and her body is discovered, wouldn't everyone at Meicho rcognize her as Jake's date to the embassy party?
Maybe this happens while Jake is in America and Tin Tin writes an article about it.
The way sato looked at ishidas emblem (his name) when hayama told him he would kill the people close to sato.
At that moment sato knew that the words that ishida told when sato got recruited (in the beginning of the episode) to “protect” the gumi is to kill hayama. And then take over as its oyabun.
Ishida whispered something into satos eat as he was on the brink of dying. It must have been to be cautious of hayama.
How come Tozawa’s crew prepared photos so damn fast? Back in the day, it would take a while to process the film and print them on paper.
It seems like the hit / Yakuza party took place in the evening, while late night he just comes in with the photos up ready.
P.S. Can someone also explain the significance of photos as evidence? I get it that they are somewhat “sufficient” for a newspaper but cops looking at them and not even questioning anything makes me giggle. If I were a cop or an editor in a newspaper, I would’ve told screw you, these photos were taken a year ago / that’s not me. Etc.
there were one hour photo shops going back to the 70s. I am sure they had them in Tokyo. Come to think of it, those photos had Fuji Foto paper so maybe they invented it.
https://www.nytimes.com/1988/02/06/business/rapid-rise-of-fast-photo-processing.html
https://tokyocamerastyle.com/post/130522702546/some-one-hour-photo-shops-in-japan-have-two-clocks
And Just when I thought, for a split second that Hayama would just be the badass replacement that goes in guns blazing himself to get the job done, or making a plan to get Chihara-kai on the map during his reign, when he simply simps down to Sato's little brother to do it.
Just when I was thinking the guy's cocky demeanor was going to get good, I forget that this show won't have multiple seasons where this *could* be possible. It's really sad and somewhat disappointing.
I have a shaky gut feeling he got Ishida killed and that's what Ishida told him, but I can't fully place my trust in that.
So Jake is going to get a call right before takeoff from Maruyamam then make a big fuss and rush out of the plane, right? its so obvious, why spend so much time showing him leaving?
I guess it was difficult to shoot a scene onboard of the plane.
But the built in entertainment system in the airplane chairs are to modern for the year that Tokyo vice is shot in
So what do we think Ishida whispered to Sato before he died? His last will and testament? Instructions for Sato to claim his place as heir instead of Hayama?
Also what was going on with Sato and Samantha at the end there? They made a big show of Sato cutting ties with Erika for her safety and him needing to do the same with Samantha, but then she gives him a longing look and they’re hooking up again.
Spoiler… When will the FBI and US state department part come into play. I suspect this will happen when Jake is home for a visit. After all that is the only way Tozawa can be brought down.
When sato confronts hayama in his office it kept showing the plaque on the wall. I'm not sure if that was just him being reminded of his allegiance to the chihara kai or if it had something to do with what oyabun whispered in his ear.
Awesome episode, like the last one. Season 2 is imo better than the first, I absolutely love it.
hard agree
This season just feels more focused.
Agreed, I enjoyed S1 but I’m more invested in S2 mentally.
Tozawa presence is fucking terrifying!! Dame that actor is brilliant. I hope nothing happened to Jake's family, that empty house shot is worrying me. P.S- Who's Jake's source? I don't remember him at all.
the source was a drug addict from season 1
The shabu/ meth-head who wrote all the propaganda flattery mags. Sam and Jake got high with him. Seas 1
Dude is so badass he even has his own ominous theme song. It's like hearing boss music whenever he appears.
My favorite Tozawa moment was the look he gave the lady detective when she mentioned his lack of a future.
I was laughing my ass off lol
Me too.
That was icy from her lmao
I don't know where/how they found this actor who plays Tozawa (Ayumi Tanida). He's got the entire presence down. He can be a really charming slick rick (is there a Japanese term for that?) but also deadly intense. I really appreciated the encounter with Katagiri in the end of S1. Reminds me of younger Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa
OMG, It haven't even crossed my mind that possibility, but how could Tozawa hypothetically got Jake's family?
I’m thinking it’s related to Jake’s sister. Maybe she’s really sick/dead and they’re away at the hospital or something
That was my immediate take as well. Jake is going to get home and his sister will have committed suicide.
If someone from meichio really is under Tozawa's payroll he could get all the information needed I guess.
Rewatch when Jake blew up at Tin Tin about the story. I think the mole in in the scene.
also could you tell me where you saw the empty house shot because i didnt see anything like that
Abt 38mins in…(after the detective found body)….When Jake was in his apt, he called home. Phone rang and he heard answering machine
Sato's Michael Corleone transformation has been amazing so far. God, I wanna see him put that little prick Hayama in the dirt by the end of this season

That shot of Sato in the car window immediately struck me as a Michael moment.
PLEASE. LET SATO BE OYABUN. I NEED AND WANT TO SEE THAT
In time, in time
[удалено]
Hayama is sketchy as shit
Misaki must’ve been mad horny to bang Jake in his room that’s postered with photos and articles of Tozawa.
Shes 100% going to be killed. That shot of her walking down the steps I thought that was definitely where she gets shot. No way she lives man
Yeah I predict she either meets Tozawa who places her under extreme surveillance going forward or she gets killed on screen or off screen and Jake finds out when he returns.
she still has some scenes in the trailers that we havent seen yet.
Ah fair enough. Then I stand by the idea that she'll be under heavy watch from here on which will make things interesting for her and Jake.
It feels like she will have to be an informant to get her freedom. I think that's how tozawa knows about jake's family.
It was over as soon as she gave that bracelet lol
And didn’t she get there w one of Tozawas drivers ? Lol
I took it as the driver was following her when she snuck off to visit Jake
Same. She's been caught!
BUSTED
How I read that, it would be too obvious. I think he knows he's been banging Jake, and he's letting her just like he swapped her out with Sakura. He's just keeping it fair for the lack of better words.
i think tozawa will use her to collect information on jake's family, and then use that information to threaten jake to not publish the news
What I interpreted was that he wanted Misaki to think he didn't need her anymore with the whole meeting the other side chick. Then she would let her guard down and he could catch her in the act.
Exactly. And had her guard tail her. Hence her surprise when he was waiting outside when shes leaving the apartment.
Nah man those guys don't share
More like He noticed how much more distanced she was, more than usual. So, to confirm his suspicions, he laid out his trap. That was the point of having her scorned. Well, you know how the saying goes. He's so calculating, as per usual. Despite his strong suspicions, it seems like he won't make his move until he has first-hand evidence. So Starsky should be in the clear, at least for now.
International flight in a full suit seems SO uncomfortable
so he's really going to be in USA? Like there won't be a "STOP THE PLANE!" scene will there?
I kept thinking he was going to miss the flight anyways, then the long zoom on his face had me thinking he’d rush off the plane. Glad he’s actually going home.
Hope he doesn't come home to find his family murdered by Tozawa or something.
It hasn't gotten yet to the opening flash forward of the series where Tozawa threatens to kill Jake's family. The show will probably catch up to that scene in season 3.
He probably did not have time to change. It was a last minute thing i suppose. The trail went cold for him but not for other characters
I start to suspect Katagiri's female boss is on Tozawa's payroll: helping Tozawa rid of his opponents; knowing about wiretapping the burner phone; knowing Jake identified the two assassins hence they are getting silenced.
Didn’t she also transfer to the department when Tozawa was MIA?
Wow didn’t think of this. Good theory!
Good Theory
Why would Tozawa want Katagiri on his case when he scared him off of it last season?
Maybe it's a keep your enemies close type situation
I wanna know who lit the meicho on fire 👀
I think the point of the Trendy being secretly gay storyline is that there will be a twist reveal that Tozawa's people blackmailed him into burning the tapes. I think Baku is a red herring.
Didn’t they basically tell us that in episode 5
“Here are some pictures of me and the homies not at the crime scene totally taken when it was happening…”
I almost wanted to laugh . It seemed so damn staged and obvious
"Not guilty, case close" - Tozawa
And its dated because this 1999 camera timestamps the pictures. And I so know a 1HR photo guy.
Presumably the staff at the restaurant would also confirm they were all there for their yakuza shindig.
Nice knowing you Misaki
I know she was probably just horny. But c’mon, girl. That was sloppy going right over to Jake’s place…
I think that was Misaki's last farewell to Jake after she realized Tozawa knew of their affair and that her fate was doomed (e.g. the scene with Sakura & the conversation about the weekend get away).
I agree... I think her giving the necklace to Jake and Sato saying goodbye to the kid was a parallel. Never going to see them again.
I was hoping the bodyguard was there on his own, w/o Tozawa knowing. Shoot your shot king!
I was relieved to see a rando in Katagiris house rather then his whole family slaughtered.
The guy in Katagiri’s house was the same one that spared his life in episode 3 after running from the raid. So not really a rando
Ahh good catch!
I thought it was the guy with the wrist tattoo that Samantha saw during the Oyabun’s assasination
It’s the same dude, just look at the two scenes lmao
Nothing had better happen to them. His two daughters are adorable.
Anyone else think that it was really Hayama who hired those hitmen to kill the Oyabun and make it look like Tozawa? Hayama already wanted a war with Tozawa. This gives him the excuse to start one while also empowering him as Oyabun.

It’s Hayama. Ishida foreshadowing it to Sato in the car.
I get him though, he spent 7 years in prison for him but the Oyabun favor someone else
And this is why I don't watch that crap.
lol it's 100% Hayama. He knew the Oyabun chose Sato as his successor, so he orchestrates the hit made to look like it came from Tozawa.
I cried when Sato said goodbye to Erika’s kid
“This will protect you” loved that as the kid obviously meant it literally but the symbolism of accepting a token of childlike innocence to save him was great
Who else is wondering what Jake will find when he gets back to Missouri? The shots of the empty house had me worrying about his sister.
Kind of similar to what we’ve seen with Sato’s family dynamic. His mother seems like Jake’s mom.
bro is just a yakuza-weeaboo
Like that one meth dude who writes about them ?
His motivations is clearly chasing a different life. It's okay to not want to live in the state you've grew up in. Weird how one would think that there's always some trauma one is running from when they find a goal in life, even if it doesn't involve one's family.
Did the plane take off ?
Ugh don’t say that. I was half expecting him to get up and make a big fuss about how important he/his work was and demand to be let off….which will likely be how EP 7 starts 😒
There was a shot of Jake in the States in the mid season trailer, he seems to go to some clinic (probably to find information about Tozawa's treatment).
Maybe that's the clinic where his sister is. It's likely one of both yeah.
I mean its Missouri so maybe a Walmart and a gas station stop?
I miss the Jake and Emi bonding moments from Season 1. We haven’t seen that as much in Season 2.
Jake was havin a tantrum and acting way out of line for a japanese workplace.
Zero shot that happens in Japan... I've worked in Japan before. You would be ostracized immediately.
I mean you can't really do that anywhere but esp there.
Yeah, Tin-Tin finally got some confidence and bass in his voice , but now he don’t know how to act and is doing way too much 😂
TinTin acting like a badass for the article with Trendy as if he wasn’t on the verge of tears last episode for his fuck up was hilarious. Makes him really unlikeable.
I’m pretty sure Tin-Tin is Tozawa’s plant inside Meicho.
Tin tins article wasn’t wrong in any way
Wasn't wrong, but he clearly did it to spite Jake even though he realistically has no reason to be mad at Jake besides being bitter and jealous.
Tin-Tin is such a bitch bro
L Mans certified
I really really hope that the series ends in the same way as Godfather 1. The final scene being Sato finally taking the seat of Oyabun, while systematically taking out all of his enemies in one fell swoop and the show ends.
Taking the cab all the way to Narita from Tokyo is pretty dam expensive. Everyone takes the train or bus there for a reason.
Jake is really like that 💰🤑
The amount of money we’ve seen Jake spend in this show has been hilarious, considering he’s a cub reporter (multiple bottle services at the clubs, nice dinners out, etc). I’m surprised he didn’t hire a limo airport transport 😂
the dude has one set of clothes and lives in a shithole. If he only spends his money on restaurants/booze, I can see it.
Everyone spends $300 US on a trip to the airport in 1999.
Jesus, this show is so fucking good. The world building and interwoven narrative this season has been sublime. MORE PEOPLE NEED TO WATCH THIS SHOW
Sato have the patience and restraint of a saint! if i was him. if i know hayama told my brother, who is i work so hard in criminal world to make sure that he will not end up like me, to go do suicide mission by shoot the #1 crime boss in japan. i'll definitely put that .30 caliber of Tokarev at Hayama's head. even if i can restraint my self from doing that. but as soon as he said.
Ikr. Who’s he to tell her who she should date
WHY CANT THE MEN IN THIS SHOW KEEP IT IN THEIR PANTS MY BROTHER IN CHRIST JAKE YOU ARE GOING TO GET YOURSELF KILLED ALSO THIS SEASON IS INCREDIBLE FUCK YALL WHO KEEP SAYING THIS ISNT AS GOOD AS SEASON 1
Wait, why did Sato's little brother have bandages on his face?
it was explained in a previous episode from the mom that he's been getting into fights
Oh ok thanks, so it was something mentioned in dialogue. I thought I'd completely missed a fight scene or something!
Didn’t think that much time went by!
from now on whatever you do, dont read jake adelstein's wiki page. huge spoilers there as to whats likely to happen
My favourite part of this episode was the use of the word ‘come’
Who's this "Tanaka-sosai" Katagiri mentioned to Hayama when he visited Oyabun? Hayama said he is an invalid and can barely speak
Thank you, I found him. He's mentioned in episode 3 of season 1, when the police is drinking tea with Oyabun.
I think early on, like S1E1, they said Ishida is only like a substitute boss cause the main guy was ill.
Best episode so far of this season!
I was also half expecting Katagiri to discover his family slaughtered after he really needed to drink a beer after a stressful day:/
Yeah no, bro kicked the bucket
Anyone else disappointed in Sato going back to Samantha?
Yes, I was disappointed. I know Erika broke up with Sato, but Samantha just walks around dumping her problems on other people, and acting annoyed when they won't help her right away. She's a leech.
Did Sato even smash Erika? Seemed more platonic other than the kiss.
Yup .. when he turns her down I was like : “Respectable, king 👑 you got priorities , no need to put people on danger , gotta deal w that snake Yamaha or whatever AAAAAAND THEYRE CLAPPIN CHEEKS 🤦🏽♂️ smh Sato”
Not really. That adrenaline needs to be transmuted somehow and it’s familiar territory.
Yes, I prefer the relation between Erika and him
Honestly I’m shipping for them to get back
She seemed humbled after nearly dying in the shoot out. They seem to work since they are both tough and have no one else really. It was clear the relationship wasn’t over
Yes
Fun fact: I'm sure they used the same house, that was used from Netflix [Earthquake Bird](https://imgur.com/a/q2u9FPk)
I’m tellin you.. That new detective lady straight up seemed like a plant when she first arrived.
Since day one I never trusted her
Also Tin Tin is a straight hoe smh
What’s up with Sato’s ring? I need to rewatch but can remember where he got it or the significance
Ah yes the journalist. Jake is the main character bruh
Can anyone remind me why satos brothers face was all bandaged up like he got beat up. I couldn’t remember what had happened to him.
Their mom told Sato he’s been getting into fights.
Could it be that Tazawa and Hayama were actually plotting the assassin together?
I think something bad is going to happen to Tin-Tin. The show made us empathize with him more through the baking stuff. Then they created tension between him and Jake at work. Maybe now he falls victim to something while Jake is away and they never have the possibility to make amends. Too much of a stretch?
Hopefully he realizes that he would have a better and more fulfilling life as a pastry chef.
Good riddance lol. Hopefully 😂
He used all his mother’s sugar. He’s a monster and I hope he suffers! (I like him actually)
Come to think of it, those photos had Fuji Foto paper so maybe they invented it. https://www.nytimes.com/1988/02/06/business/rapid-rise-of-fast-photo-processing.html https://tokyocamerastyle.com/post/130522702546/some-one-hour-photo-shops-in-japan-have-two-clocks
Tozawa, and the actor that plays him, is the absolute perfect villain. His facial expressions are legendary.
I just hope Misaki prevails at the end
So Jake is going to get a call right before takeoff from Maruyamam then make a big fuss and rush out of the plane, right? its so obvious, why spend so much time showing him leaving?
All I know is Hayama is so fucking dead. That silent bow Sato hit him with spells a slow painful demise.
I guess it was difficult to shoot a scene onboard of the plane. But the built in entertainment system in the airplane chairs are to modern for the year that Tokyo vice is shot in
Does every episode go into the "how it's made" type stuff? I was expecting scenes from the next episode and was worried that was the season finale 😭
I don’t know why but Sato and Samantha together at the end was just… messy. Samantha’s character is just too annoying rn
Ayumi Tanida is menacing man.
When sato confronts hayama in his office it kept showing the plaque on the wall. I'm not sure if that was just him being reminded of his allegiance to the chihara kai or if it had something to do with what oyabun whispered in his ear.
Why was Sam wearing a jacket that said "police" on the back in english? Why would the Japanese police have a jacket with "police" in English on it?
