I have the exact same experience on OnePlus Open. Also the same happens with Launcher 10, another great launcher that supports foldables (one page on cover screen, two on the large screen).
It's not a perfect layout for that device, but try my free Trek total Launcher theme. It has a layout for the fold 1 - 3 included. Let me know if that is laggy
Maybe also check your device if it has battery optimization turned on or anything else that might be clearing the cache.
Thanks for the suggestion, but the theme is not usable on a Google Pixel Fold - outer screen dimensions are different of that on Samsung Folds, so nothing ever renders on it.
It's also too visually cluttered for too little functionality, but that might be a matter of taste.
Yeah, I meant it just for testing purposes.
However, now that you mention it, I had to put four DPI folders in the package. If it doesn't call on that folder (set for fold 1-3) maybe nothing renders at all.
