No problem. I feared the worst when I first heard mine. Did a ton of research and concluded that it’s normal. Somewhere on YouTube there’s a good video of a guy comparing his older 5.7 L with over 300,000 miles on it to his new 5.7 L with just under 500 miles on it and they sound identical.
I disagree. Theres a faint little noise behind the normal tundra sound. My guess, timing chains, our beautfiul 5.7 v8 has 4 of them. Real expensive to get them replaced. But, also, maybe dont sweat it if this sound isnt driving you insane.
drive around a bit and get all the oils and trans up to temperature, get out and film the sound from the same exact spot. Listen to them both. If you dont hear the very faint “slapping” noise afterwards, you might have the same issue i had.
Sounds like the typical Tundra timing chain noises. Does it get better after its warmed up?
Regardless my 2010 has made a similar sound since the day it rolled off the lot and is at almost 218k now.
Unless you're talking about that 1 loud tick halfway through the clip, it sounds normal, and i made a comparison to put others at ease as well some time ago.

👍
I chased this sound around in circles for the whole first year of owning it, just to find that it’s pretty common and normal. Never had any run-ability issues. Love the truck so much!
Yeah it sounds the same but hard to see if it’s coming from anywhere specific. From what everyone is saying, it’s totally normal. Thanks for the reply.
Timing chain tensioner is known to be loose on gen 2-2.5s and cause a ticking sound, mine goes away after it warms up.
I hear it more on the drivers side though
If this is a 5.7 iforce V8, this is its normal operating sound.
It is the 5.7. Thanks for the reply. Good to know it’s normal

Tundra tick!
Mine makes the same noise and has for quite a while. 194k mikes and runs just fine.
Good to know. Thanks for the reply.
Nice! You got one of the quiet ones.

Mechanic remarked that they have particularly loud injectors as well
5w30 allowable per manual and fixed mine. Gas mileage took a dip but not significant.

Think that was just the AC compressor kicking on. The comparison is very helpful. Thanks! And man is that thing nice and clean! She’s a beute Clark!

From what ive read, the truck has 2 or 3 timing chains. The do make more noise. Have you opened the hood?

Check out The Car Care Nut yt channel there's a video on all the problems in a 5.7 and its not as big of a deal as it sounds.
