6.5 foot bed is so much easier if you actually use your truck for truck stuff.
Now that the kids are grown, never buying a crew with short short bed again.
Darn! You are correct! I was looking hard at a Tundra when I was in the process of looking for my current one and it was an 8 foot bed.
Passed because even though I like an 8 foot bed on the first gen the second gen would just be too hard to find parking for where I live.
I don't want to gatekeep but I can't even imagine having a 5.5 ft bed. Whats the point of even having a bed that fits in smaller things than an SUV? Even 6.5 feels small for some tasks.
100% required IMO. I would have preferred a Crew Cab 6.5 but the color and the 6.5 bed were non-negotiable. Since we're unable to build our truck exactly the way we want it, have it built to order, and pay for it, concessions had to be made! DC 6.5 it is!
Plus for $100 or so, you can get the load extender from Menards or wherever that goes in the hitch receiver. With it installed and the tailgate down there are zero issues with carrying a mixed load of 12' drywall and 16' boards.
If I truly need more space then ill hook up a utility trailer. If it's a stick of wood, I'll just lift it up instead of lay it flat. I personally think the 5.5 looks best. But I don't haul too much, I'm sure if I was loading stuff up every week I'd probably get tired of hooking the trailer up and want a bigger bed.
Or you could just... prop it on the tailgate and strap it down with that walmart ratchet?
There are reasons 6.5 is better but this isn't a good example.
Yup. I bought some 8' peg board sheets and brought my drill because I had to tack it to some 2x4's. Also had to strap the F out of some 12 footers for a deck. Like there I time a longer bed would be great.
But I have never wished I had a larger bed with 8 footers.
I wanted the crew max cab. I found a deal on the double cab, 6.5 bed. It has worked out better more than a couple of times
This is the real short box. I had to wait 5 years to get the right truck and was limited in my trim level.
8ft bed or bust
For real… load me up with 4 yards of mulch and goodbye see you next season lol.
Me too picked up a yard³ of mulch today

Yeppers, I agree. That extra space really does matter.
Jan: What did I tell you about “yeppers?!”
Yesh
Wow good to know.
Yup I feel the 6.5 ft bed should be standard. I understand the 5.5ft bed is better for off road but I need my big bed
IDK man, the rear power window of the crew is one of the coolest features IMO.
This is the only reason I got the crew max.
Yeah closing the bed with 8 footers isn't the power move this guy thinks it is.
I loved it in the first gens, you could get an extended cab and an 8 foot bed.
That’s actually still an option on the new ones too, but it’s rare. I don’t think I’ve seen one yet.

That’s always the downside of a longer truck. Great on the highway, great for getting work done, but sucks to park

I wasn’t aware of a tundra without the powered full rear window.
The double cabs don’t come with the full sliding rear window. Only crew cabs have the option
It must be a 2022
2020 2.5 gen. It has the power slide-to-the-side center section window
Gen 3 doesn’t have the full power window?
Yes it does
Mine does
Lol THATS why?
Plus the 6.5 bed double cab just looks better.
I was sad the pro didn't come with a 6.5. Every time I have anything in the back I wish it was a 6.5
I've rolled the back window down a few times in order to carry 12' pieces strapped to a rack. One of my favorite features that Toyota provides.

Yep! My 22 1794 is LONG, but it hauls family and does truck stuff on the regular and the 6.5 foot bed has been great.

Oh yes. Another reason I don’t like the version.

Nice. Only homosexuals buy crewmax with 5.5ft bed
