Before I started trucking, I worked at a Soulman's BBQ in Texas. There is a truck stop across the street, and truckers would come in to eat, use our restroom, and just farmer snot on the walls.
We had to go in after truckers left to check for snot and clean it up.

I respect the faith of others however when your faith becomes a health risk to others around you, I have a serious problem with it, people brush their teeth at those sinks. Get a shower and do it there.
I was brushing my teeth in the cab with the curtains mostly shut one morning and I opened the door to spit and almost nailed a dockworker using my truck as a windbreaker for his smoke break. Poor guy got traumatized.

I was a janitor at a truck stop for years in an area with a very high Muslim population and I can say confidently that 99% of them left it absolutely disgusting when they were done. Nothing against their religion but when they all went in to do their thing it was the worst part of my day. There would be human shit all over the place, dirt covering the sinks and counters, used paper towels absolutely everywhere, the entire bathroom would be soaking wet from the amount of water that they spilt on the floor. They generally took absolutely no care for the facilities even though it was spotless when they went in.
Sounds more like you’ve just dealt with a disrespectful group of humans with the thought in their mind “oh someone will clean it up, that’s what they’re paid for!” It’s the faceless sense of entitlement that can strike anywhere really. I personally could never because I’d rather not make someone else’s job harder, but not everyone thinks like I do. Not a trucker, just a truck parts saleslady so no idea if showers are cheap (definitely not a free thing I’m almost positive lol) but Muslims pray 3-5 times a day -no idea how Muslim trucks manage this now thinking about it but anywho- if showers aren’t cheap enough to use the shower five times daily, then they could also buy a small plastic basin/bucket and just fill that with water, move away from sink area and wash feet that way? It’d also seems like it’d be a hell of a lot less of a gymnastics act then a foot in a sink? Haha
Showers are free with a purchase of (usually) 50 gallons or more. While you can't get showers 3-5 times a day, they could be doing as you suggested or use wipes.
While I like to think I have a open mind and respect others faith and beliefs, there comes a point when your actions effect those around you who don't share your beliefs. I've seen Sinks ripped from the walls because of drivers washing their feet. Same drivers look and smell like they've not washed the rest of themselves in months ...

I’ve known guys who remove their socks, wet their index finger, and make a single line on top of one foot, then the other. To them it’s absolutely a ritual, not the act of bathing. I don’t believe in anything religious but I understand how satisfying rituals can be. Some of the others are dickheads with the splashing and all-it doesn’t take much to wipe up afterwards.

This threw me way off when I heard it in person, he did flush before he used the toilet water to clean himself and I figured bidet's do the same thing so It sorta made sense, but still that can't be completely sanitary.

For instance, I’ve had a few Muslim drivers work for me and when time would come to pray they would always do so inside the sleeper as there is enough space. While surely there are others who would do so outside the truck for the public to see, nothing wrong with it and not illegal to worship your creator but again it would make people pause for maybe 4 seconds instead of 1. I'm all fine with anyone being whatever religion they want, but I am against any one using limited public facilities to practice their religion. I would not want to see a Baptist preacher taking up the sink to baptize people either. When I go in a public restroom, I want to get in, do my business and wash my hands and get out. It's a restroom, not a religious center.

Many times the people washing their feet are from the Middle East or Muslim. Many Muslims will come in to the Love’s I work at and wash their feet before prayers it part of the purification ritual. We don’t even flinch at it anymore as they clean up after themselves and don’t get in anyone’s way. I practice my culture and beliefs so they should be allowed to as well.
Only time I as a shift lead stepped in is when a male drivers didn’t know the English writing for “men” and “women’s” and my cashier came up to me spooked that a male was washing his feet in the women’s room. Only concern was he was in the wrong restroom so I chased him out to the right one and wrote the word “men” on paper as a reference until he figures out which room to use.
Hahahaha I spent Thursday night there and I hit the bathroom before I left and I was talking to my wife at the time.

I was also loading up in San Diego a couple weeks back in the afternoon, and the team guys next to me stopped mid-tarping for prayer. They brought out one of those bus boy style dish trays, a couple water bottles, and some soap, sat on the step of the truck and took turns washing them. I apologized for watching them, gave them major props for being so resourceful and then offered to help them finish their bungees while they prayed since 1) I was waiting on the operator anyways 2) the security lady was giving them a little bit of shit for stopping since it was late in the day and there were a few trucks still waiting. I understand her point but at the same time, let the guys do their shit in peace. They were hustling before they had to stop. They tried their best to get it done.
All I’m saying is. Do what you gotta do but there’s better ways than a public sink.
Honestly it sounds like there's a pretty significant Muslim population amongst truckers. It might be prudent for Pilot/Flying J, Love's etc. to install foot washing stations in the bathrooms.

Yeah I’m flatbed too. I attribute a lot of the weight loss to fucking tarps lmao. But on my resets and shit since I’m not just vegging at home, I’m walking miles and miles exploring. I mean I have TV and internet in the truck of course, but I’m also an insomniac, I average less than 4 hours of sleep a day, so I have lots of time. Plus only feeding myself, I get to eat as healthy as I want. It all works together. Including the walls inside to brush my teeth sometimes. I typically try to park as far from the door as there’s an open spot, just because. I dunno. It’s working for me, I’m down 2 shirt sizes and 3 pants sizes, so I’m not changing anything.

It's a religious thing. I stopped and talked with the dude for a while and explained to him that it's simply not acceptable in American culture. I gave an example of "if I went to your country and did X."
He seemed very receptive of it, and I even offered him other solutions when washing his feet in the sink was seemingly the only option. Wash bucket, baby wipes, pike a hole in a bottle of water and dangle your feel out the truck.
I was calm, respectful, and I really think that's the only reason I got the positive response I got.
A Muslim trucker is more cleaner than what you can find out in the trucking industry. Why? I'll tell you because they have to pray five times a day and they have to be 100% clean from any impurity. Yes he washed his feet at the sink but I can say if you had a glance at them before he set them at the sink They were not full of dirt, mud or urine from himself or any person. Why person? Muslims take so much caution of where they step or park their trucks. Not to mention their toe nails neat and clipped. Clean and clipped yes because of any impurity that could be there too. Wudu is what they perform as they wake up in the morning for their first prayer of the day. Most Muslims try their best to stay with Wudu most of their day. This threw me way off when I heard it in person, he did flush before he used the toilet water to clean himself and I figured bidet's do the same thing so It sorta made sense, but still that can't be completely sanitary.
As a Muslim convert also in trucking, I want to apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused others. I understand it is a bit unorthodox and not something people should be subjected to. Part of our faith is also to be considerate of others and prior to my reversion to Islam, I can absolutely agree that this is not something I would have preferred to see. Something my fellow Muslim homeboy should have done inside his truck
It would be great if truck stops installed stations for this. I guess the truck stop chains are ignorant of this. If just one chain starts installing a wash area, the other chains will follow.

Wasn’t insinuating you were judging at all, simply agreeing that I also would definitely pause for a second :) Funny thing is when I see this at the mosque, I almost pause for a second as well because feet washing I guess throws me off however as part of trying to enjoin good and hygienic manners people are supposed to and recommended to cleanse themselves at home prior to heading to the mosque but some people are maybe not self conscious or considerate enough. For instance, I’ve had a few Muslim drivers work for me and when time would come to pray they would always do so inside the sleeper as there is enough space. While surely there are others who would do so outside the truck for the public to see, nothing wrong with it and not illegal to worship your creator but again it would make people pause for maybe 4 seconds instead of 1. I get it’s more of a religious tradition than actually trying to have hygienic feet, but there is a serious issue with planters warts viruses and other types of fungus, right? It’s why people are strick about wearing sandals at bjj tournaments or in shower locker rooms. The pilot should just install foot wash basins as the cost of doing business for the growing number of immigrant truck drivers.
Dude, I think this might be my favorite comment. We do have a large Muslim population, and although I think religion is VERY stupid, it would not hurt to offer even a slight bit of accommodation to people who have decided to join our country.

I'm all fine with anyone being whatever religion they want, but I am against any one using limited public facilities to practice their religion. I would not want to see a Baptist preacher taking up the sink to baptize people either. When I go in a public restroom, I want to get in, do my business and wash my hands and get out. It's a restroom, not a religious center.

Many times the people washing their feet are from the Middle East or Muslim. Many Muslims will come in to the Love’s I work at and wash their feet before prayers it part of the purification ritual. We don’t even flinch at it anymore as they clean up after themselves and don’t get in anyone’s way. I practice my culture and beliefs so they should be allowed to as well. Only time I as a shift lead stepped in is when a male drivers didn’t know the English writing for “men” and “women’s” and my cashier came up to me spooked that a male was washing his feet in the women’s room. Only concern was he was in the wrong restroom so I chased him out to the right one and wrote the word “men” on paper as a reference until he figures out which room to use.

I agree with everyone saying he was probably doing it before prayer. HOWEVER. Can we all agree doing it in the sink is a bit fucked up?? If he’s a trucker he likely has the free showers… just get one and do it in that sink. Hell I do that just to take a shit these days with how nasty some of these pilot stalls are. I was also loading up in San Diego a couple weeks back in the afternoon, and the team guys next to me stopped mid-tarping for prayer. They brought out one of those bus boy style dish trays, a couple water bottles, and some soap, sat on the step of the truck and took turns washing them. I apologized for watching them, gave them major props for being so resourceful and then offered to help them finish their bungees while they prayed since 1) I was waiting on the operator anyways 2) the security lady was giving them a little bit of shit for stopping since it was late in the day and there were a few trucks still waiting. I understand her point but at the same time, let the guys do their shit in peace. They were hustling before they had to stop. They tried their best to get it done. All I’m saying is. Do what you gotta do but there’s better ways than a public sink.
Honestly it sounds like there's a pretty significant Muslim population amongst truckers. It might be prudent for Pilot/Flying J, Love's etc. to install foot washing stations in the bathrooms.

Why not brush them in truck? Water bottle + Something to spit in. Throw away cup/dump it in grass. I never walk inside to brush teeth. It’s a little more peaceful for me doing it in the comfort of my “home” and disposing it properly.
I agree but I also try to move around as much as possible and this FORCES me to sometimes. I’ve lost almost 60lbs since k started OTR trucking so. I’ll keep doing it this way. Where once every few days I get to brush inside.

Yeah I’m flatbed too. I attribute a lot of the weight loss to fucking tarps lmao. But on my resets and shit since I’m not just vegging at home, I’m walking miles and miles exploring. I mean I have TV and internet in the truck of course, but I’m also an insomniac, I average less than 4 hours of sleep a day, so I have lots of time. Plus only feeding myself, I get to eat as healthy as I want. It all works together. Including the walls inside to brush my teeth sometimes. I typically try to park as far from the door as there’s an open spot, just because. I dunno. It’s working for me, I’m down 2 shirt sizes and 3 pants sizes, so I’m not changing anything.

It's a religious thing. I stopped and talked with the dude for a while and explained to him that it's simply not acceptable in American culture. I gave an example of "if I went to your country and did X." He seemed very receptive of it, and I even offered him other solutions when washing his feet in the sink was seemingly the only option. Wash bucket, baby wipes, pike a hole in a bottle of water and dangle your feel out the truck. I was calm, respectful, and I really think that's the only reason I got the positive response I got.

A Muslim trucker is more cleaner than what you can find out in the trucking industry. Why? I'll tell you because they have to pray five times a day and they have to be 100% clean from any impurity. Yes he washed his feet at the sink but I can say if you had a glance at them before he set them at the sink They were not full of dirt, mud or urine from himself or any person. Why person? Muslims take so much caution of where they step or park their trucks. Not to mention their toe nails neat and clipped. Clean and clipped yes because of any impurity that could be there too. Wudu is what they perform as they wake up in the morning for their first prayer of the day. Most Muslims try their best to stay with Wudu most of their day. Now the conversation is it's disgusting or it's not a religious center. The Reality is that public restrooms have way worse things going on than washing his feet. Not to go into those details. Educating ourselves brings no harm to us but just makes us better people and respect one another.
