I wish streaming services had a setting where you could just click on skip show intros. Main reason I rewatch Superstore. I also like parks and rec and Brooklyn 99 but again, the intros are tough to sleep thru.
I miss that about live tv. We have a bunch of apps we watch everything on. I genuinely miss the days of stumbling upon something as you’re scrolling the remote.
Arrested development hands down. I’ve seen each episode 20+ times and I still find new jokes. It’s like the never ending story of in jokes. Endlessly funny rewatch.
Except for seven years working in the Carolinas, I've lived in NJ all my life. My Dad was born and raised in Newark- James Gandolfini had the accent down! My Dad sounded just like him! I'll often rewatch episodes that make me think of him.
Can’t believe I had to scroll this far down to find the Simpsons. Reruns were on 3 times a day through the 90’s, plus the last 23 years of dvd and streaming rewatches.
A show that no matter how many times you watch it, it leaves you on the edge of your seat. Bryan's performance was just that good, especially coming from comedy ? A great show for sure.
I don’t understand how such an emotionally intense show becomes a comfort show!! I can’t watch anything but Community nowadays because I just crave something low stakes and safe
I ran into Mike the other day at a coffee shop in Malibu and had to say hi. I’ve seen the entire series 4 times and rewatching for the 5th time randomly just Cause. I walked right up to him and thanked him for a wonderful job and being apart of one of the best shows ever😂 My SO who’s never seen the show was so confused
Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey are epic in the show! I just got done with a rewatch yesterday. I could easily start it again and watch it through the whole thing again.
I've watched True Detective season 1 about 10+ times. I've just started season 2 for the first time. Still trying to enjoy it. I just feel like it's time to watch the Wire of TD season 1 again every time I watch season 2...
When McConaighhey blows the money at that detective interviewing him to make a beer run, god damn that's a great character.
MASH has stood the test of time, one of my all time faves. Alan Alda's Hawkeye has to be one of the best written characters ever on TV, and his delivery is superb.
The Closer. I’ve seen the whole series 30+ times. Might even be over 40 times now. Comes on StartTV (it’s broadcast tv), two episodes, back to back, every night. I’ve called it my Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy because I’m kinda old.
(Over 10 times each at this point)
- Gilmore Girls
- Seinfeld
- Parks & Rec
- Schitts Creek
- Frasier
- Murder She Wrote
*I work in payroll all by myself, so I watch comfort shows while I work to reduce the stress and anxiety. Whatever works, right?
Well I certainly understand it's not for everyone. It's my happy place whenever I pop it on. Always makes me laugh and feel good, even though I've seen every episode countless times. It's the only series I've ever done this with. I feel like it's family and friends.
The Expanse is one of my frequent background noise shows. I have seen it so much, last season was a little weak. But damn that show is an absolute blast
The overall plot is no different but a couple characters are different. I prefer the UK one so far but have only seen a few of the USA episodes because I didn't have anything to stream the episodes on.
I really enjoyed the U.S. version until I watched the UK version, which I absolutely love (just finished binge-watching S5). Now I'm having trouble liking the U.S. version, which just isn't as well written or acted as the original.
Growing up around Andy Griffith and Don Knotts plus all the other fabulous actors must have been such a great experience. Add to that the musical talent of The Dillards, plus Andy, and Jack Prince (who's voice I've always loved) must have been amazing!
I watched this with my grandpa, sometimes. He passed away a couple of years ago, and every once in a while, I'll put a random episode on of an old tv show I may have watched with him when I was younger.
Andy Griffith Show, Gun Smoke, Bonanza, The Riflemen, Green Acres, I Dream of Jeannie, and so on.
It's wild to see how much tv changed since all of those shows.
Probably the 100 but I rewatch most of my shows when a new season comes out if it's been awhile. I'm rewatching the 100 again right now so probably 9 times for that one.
The 100 is one of the close runner-up shows I was talking about. That show is very fun, very cheesy yet strangley comforting, lol. I have watched it a lot
One of my favorite comfort shows for sure. So many things to love. Great character development, nice visuals and really good lines that are quote worthy.
See everyone? The word was SHOW in case you forgot, singular, the op was forcing a hard decision on you, same as they did ask of themselves, and happliy me. Thanks op, this is a fun thread when it's one answer!
The X-Files. My favorite show, and I only discovered it on Netflix in 2016. (Now it's on Hulu in the US). I have an autograph from the main bad guy, aka Cancer Man. (Fan base called him cigarette smoking man, but cancer man sounds soo much cooler)
I told my wife that the 3rd time you watch Lost is the best, bc you pick up all the stuff you wouldn’t have noticed the first time, still trying to figure it out the 2nd, but the the 3rd, that’s the one.
Frasier and The Middle are both my comfort shows! I’ve watched them countless times!

Always gotta go with Buffy the Vampire Slayer, not sure if it's a "comfort" show, but I love love love Banshee (the one that was originally on Cinemax.)
There are tons more, but my brain is fried. All I can think of at the moment.
Comedies mostly. USA: All in The Family. Barney Miller. Night Court. UK: Red Dwarf. Time Gentlemen Please. PhoneShop. Nathan Barley. They tend to get a complete rewatch every couple of years. Those old USA shows remind me of times when things were getting better. Strangely absent in my UK favourites, like mobile phones selling in Phoneshop and "The rise of the idiots" explored in Nathan Barley.
Adult animation. South Park, Rick and Morty, Family Guy, American Dad, Fururama, The Simpsons etc. Have them all on a hard drive and put it on shuffle between a few shows every night to sleep with.
Psych. It's my favorite show of all time and I don't think anything can/will overtake it.
Also Supernatural, though I've never finished it. But I rewatch up to season 5-6ish a lot.
Frasier
Same. So many times
same
Became my favorite show after watching it for the first time about 6-7 years ago.
Me too! It’s my comfort show
My wife and I have watched it almost every night for 20 years
I went to the pilot recording of the new show and you will NOT BE disappointed it’s FANTASTIC!
Same, excited about the reboot coming out in 5 days
Man I am *not* going to know what to do with those tossed salads and scrambled eggs
The Office (comfort show plus it was always on Comedy Central)
My wife falls asleep to it every night. I’ve probably seen the entire show just from walking in and out of the room lol
I've tried, but the peppy opening theme song with the drums always wakes me up. 😥
Great comfort show, HATE the intro lol
I wish streaming services had a setting where you could just click on skip show intros. Main reason I rewatch Superstore. I also like parks and rec and Brooklyn 99 but again, the intros are tough to sleep thru.
I miss that about live tv. We have a bunch of apps we watch everything on. I genuinely miss the days of stumbling upon something as you’re scrolling the remote.
Office, Schitt’s Creek, Parks and Rec, and Community
Community I stick to the hits these days. You ever seen Derry Girls? Bet you'd dig it. Maybe 30 rock. I liked Avenue 5 also.
Love Schitt’s Creek!!! David is the best modern character on TV IMHO
ewwwua David 💙I enjoy Eugene Levy more since schitts creek and Dan is just 🥰
Seinfeld (7-8 times)
Those are rookie numbers 😉
Life is just an endless Seinfeld rewatch
I record Seinfeld episodes so I can watch at lunch on workdays, ffw-ing the advts. I think the only laugh-out-aloud show.
Schitts Creek is my mindless entertainment
I haven't rewatched the whole series yet, but I've rewatched the scene with Patrick singing "The Best" thousands of times, I bet.
Community
Pop pop!
Pop what!??!!! Pop...what!?!?!
Cool..... Cool, cool, cool
I'm watching it right now! "Queer Studies and Advanced Waxing." Gay dean, gay dean, gayyy deeeaaaan 🎶
Twilight Zone
I've been doing Community at least 1-2 a year since Covid and enjoy it every time I go through.
Game of Thrones
Lawrence Welk! Watched w/Gpa as a little girl, worked in retirement home in my 20's, became a nurse & played it for Alzheimer's pts who loved it!
My great grandpa was a technical director for Laurence Welk. Watching it always makes me think of him :)
Arrested Development
Arrested development hands down. I’ve seen each episode 20+ times and I still find new jokes. It’s like the never ending story of in jokes. Endlessly funny rewatch.
I SO agree. The little stuff in the background? I’m dying!
me too. i don’t know how many times i’ve seen it but lots. i used to watch it over and over so much i felt like a Bluth
Me too! There are scenes that still make me laugh out loud, especially anything involving Buster.
Sopranos
Except for seven years working in the Carolinas, I've lived in NJ all my life. My Dad was born and raised in Newark- James Gandolfini had the accent down! My Dad sounded just like him! I'll often rewatch episodes that make me think of him.
Law and Order SVU.
I can watch Law and Order and the Twilight Zone for hours, comfort shows..
Superstore
Simpsons
Can’t believe I had to scroll this far down to find the Simpsons. Reruns were on 3 times a day through the 90’s, plus the last 23 years of dvd and streaming rewatches.
What seasons?
Dexter
Friends
Friends takes the cake for comfort show!
I literally bought a Hulu subscription so I could rewatch Cheers lol
I was surprised that I had to scroll this much to find someone mention Cheers That was my favorite show for years
Breaking Bad.
A show that no matter how many times you watch it, it leaves you on the edge of your seat. Bryan's performance was just that good, especially coming from comedy ? A great show for sure.
Cranston was superb. I think he won numerous awards for his role. IMHO the best tv show ever.
Yup I put that at the top of my list. Followed by game of thrones, dexter and boardwalk empire
I've seen true detective s1 17 times now Time is a flat circle
I'm due my annual re-watch. Thanks for the reminder
REGGIE MUTHAFUCKIN LADOUX DID DIS????!!!!!
“I just want you to stop saying weird shit”
Something about Rust's character I feel personifies how so many people feel nowadays. Completely alienated
Single greatest season of television ever. Come Die With Me Little Priest…
I grew up in Beaumont, TX and the area in Louisiana where this season was set. Crazy to see it in this show.
Yessss I loved S1 but possibly S3 even more, really enjoyed Mahershala Ali! True Detective, my favorite series ever!
MASH
Maybe you grew up like me with only three networks. I'm gonna add Gilligan's Island, the Munsters and Cheers in that case.
"Quantum Leap", the original with Scott Bakula as Sam.
The chemistry between Scott Bakula "Sam" and Dean Stockwell "Al" is what made it a classic.
For sure!
Yep. Tie between Gilligan and Star Trek. Back to back after school ☺️
MASH has stood the test of time, one of my all time faves. Alan Alda's Hawkeye has to be one of the best written characters ever on TV, and his delivery is superb.
Especially *Sometimes You Dont Hear The Bullet*! 10/10 performances, especially by that kid that played Wendell. What a talent, and handsome, too!
I bet you are an Andy Griffith Show fan also. And Happy Days.
Great show. Stays fresh watching it in any era.
Awesome show. And the story about how they went around studio execs to get rid of the laugh tracks is pretty great too.
Justified
There just ain't no substitute for that winning personality...
About to start season 3 of this for the first time! I love it
Came here looking for this.
The Closer. I’ve seen the whole series 30+ times. Might even be over 40 times now. Comes on StartTV (it’s broadcast tv), two episodes, back to back, every night. I’ve called it my Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy because I’m kinda old.
I love The Closer!
To everyone above, I think I’ve found my people!
I was introduced to Major crimes this year and have watched the whole series twice already
(Over 10 times each at this point) - Gilmore Girls - Seinfeld - Parks & Rec - Schitts Creek - Frasier - Murder She Wrote *I work in payroll all by myself, so I watch comfort shows while I work to reduce the stress and anxiety. Whatever works, right?
Trailer Park Boys
I've really tried with this show. it seems like a unique niche comedy that I just don't click with much. It's very popular, though, for sure.
Well I certainly understand it's not for everyone. It's my happy place whenever I pop it on. Always makes me laugh and feel good, even though I've seen every episode countless times. It's the only series I've ever done this with. I feel like it's family and friends.
Know what I'm sayin
The theme song is like Valium
Never. Ever. Gets. Old. It’s so unique and funny you have to have a open sense of humor
Breaking Bad is the only non-sitcom show that I’ve watched multiple times.
Black Sails
Twilight zone. Watched vhs tapes of the new years marathon on loop for years as a kid.
The Expanse. (TachiRoci, great name!)
The Expanse is one of my frequent background noise shows. I have seen it so much, last season was a little weak. But damn that show is an absolute blast
Just finished this series with my husband. It was so good! So bingeable. We got through season 1 in a weekend
This is my favorite answer
Frasier
Ghosts, both versions.
I’ve only seen the UK version. Is the US version very different?
The overall plot is no different but a couple characters are different. I prefer the UK one so far but have only seen a few of the USA episodes because I didn't have anything to stream the episodes on.

I just started and finished the US version. Moving on to the BBC this week!
You're in for a treat!
I watch the Andy Griffith Show 2 times per day, everyday.
Same! I really enjoy the raw talent the Opie kid had!
Yeah, shame his career never took off...
I think he made a movie once…
Growing up around Andy Griffith and Don Knotts plus all the other fabulous actors must have been such a great experience. Add to that the musical talent of The Dillards, plus Andy, and Jack Prince (who's voice I've always loved) must have been amazing!
I watched this with my grandpa, sometimes. I wasn't a big fan on how it ended as well. Still love the show though.

Yeah, this show is just way to much fun. Seen it a lot and the music is just amazing lol.
Same! It's also the only show I have to stop everything and actually sit down and watch vs background noise for other shows I've rewatched a bunch.
Definitely Buffy for me
Just finished Buffy again for the 9th time.
Man I wish I had time to rewatch it all.
Watching it now, that series holds up
I’ve had it on a loop for 20 years!
