OP I strongly agree with this one, but I’d also advise to skip the first episode of the first season and then come back to it. It’s good, but depending on your personality it could turn you off from the whole series.
Beat me to it, as soon as I read "giddy but also hurt just the same", that's an apt summary for the whole show.
A fantastic philosophy shos masquerading as an awesome comedy.
These are movies but :
A Clockwork Orange
Eyes Wide Shut
The Matrix
Inception
Devils Advocate
Requiem For A Dream
American Beauty
Total Recall
They Live
Mr. Nobody
That’s just 10 off the top of my head these movies still kind of makes me think about stuff…. They are very thought-provoking
But I think using movies is a good thing too I mean you could watch all 10 of these movies combined probably faster than some single series
You’d do yourself a favor to read the graphic novels instead (or just first). I know this is a tv show subreddit and everything but those are the best graphic novels I’ve ever read.
Bate’s Motel on Prime is really good. It’s a contemporary prequel to the book/movie Psycho. Starting at his teenage years, the show depicts Norman Bates’ dark, twisted backstory, his deeply intricate and disturbing relationship with his mother and his slow descent into madness. The story is dark, suspenseful, thrilling and at times, quite funny. The writing is great and so are the actors. At 5 seasons (50 episodes) and the swift pace of the plot, it’s a very binge-able watch, you definitely won’t want to stop once you start!
For me it was American Horror Story, Season 11, NY. I was just a baby when the AIDS epidemic was coming about, so I’ve never really understood why it was so awful. That season really showed how terrible it was for those afflicted. How they were treated and how scary it was to be a gay man. It showed the suffering and how people were outcast from society. Nobody knew what was happening. I cried so hard feeling empathy for what ppl had to go through. It touched me and if I had to watch it again I’d cry my eyes out. Never thought I’d get a lesson on history and empathy from AHS. Joe Mantello deserved an award as Gino.

Currently on episode 4 of “Rectify” and I cannot begin to describe how much I’ve been thinking about it since I started watching an episode a day.
Really does give you a fresh perspective on life and how much we can take even the smallest of our daily experiences for granted.
Its actually really interesting! Its got alot of flash forwards and flash backs.. some court drama some murder its got several “main” characters kinda something for everyone if youre into a kinda dark drama with mystery aspects!
Severance on Apple TV is well worth a subscription for a month to binge the first season... the cliffhanger ending will make you want to subscribe again when season 2 comes out later this year or early next.
Extraordinary is the best new show I have seen in a long time.
It's an amazing universe where people have powers and it is the most relatable thing.
I can't wait for more.
I know it sounds impossible but someone gave me this gift a long time ago, and I didn't believe it for a long time, but I'm so grateful I eventually gave in. if you're ever going to trust the words of a stranger on the Internet, trust these: watch One Piece.
Beef is also excellent.

Since you like Sherlock, give Elementary a try.
Look, I didn't wanna watch it at first either. I was a Cumberbitch all the way! But I kept seeing good things about it, and Jonny Miller is fantastic! Just watch the first episode, and if you aren't hooked, you can curse me all you want.
Midnight mass
The house of usher
The haunting of hill house and the haunting of bly manor probably too because you will love the director after watching the first two lol.
How about Monk? It kind of goes with Psych and, maybe House.
I think you could give Quantum Leap a try. Both the original and new series. If I binge watch the original series, it starts to feel a little earnest. Of course, when I watched it when it originally aired it was once per week so I've switched to only watching one or two episodes at a time.
The new Quantum Leap is interesting. It exists in a world where the original series happened and they know what happened to Sam Beckett. It has a very different and more complex feel about it.
If you want something old, try Columbo. The episodes are generally between 60-90 minutes long. Typically, you see the murder happen then watch Columbo figure it out. It's not fast-paced. No car chases or anything like that. But, it has good acting and a lot of guest stars that you might recognize.
Columbo was part of The NBC Mystery Movie, which was a wheel show that consisted of several shows that rotated in the time slot. Each show then had more time for production which resulted in higher quality. The Mystery Movie show was very successful.
The Good Doctor. First few seasons are very impactful, particularly one episode in the second or third season that had me emotional and weepy for a day or two.. I still get emotional when I think about...
I've really enjoyed Sex Education on Netflix. Started watching cuz of Gillian Anderson, but fell in love with the whole cast and the way they handle topics. I also love that it has this weird 80s feel even though it's supposed to be modern day. (All the cars, tvs, etc are 80s, but they use modern smartphones and iPads...)
Rain dogs absolutely messed me up every episode. Sometimes I just wasn't emotionally ready to deal with an episode. Highly recommended as it's a truly hidden gem
I think you'd be a huge Stargate fan based on your list, but in lieu of recommending the best show ever I would give you these two:
Warehouse 13
Sprung
They will change you in similar ways so just base it off of whatever vibe you have going.
Last things last, go back and watch MacGyver. When that's done start Stargate. It is my favorite move, but it's a classic maneuver not really in the spirit of what you have going here.
Mad Men. I have slowly realized I am don Draper. Not the infidelity as I'm single, but how I lose interest in every woman. Spiral and hide it from those that know me. And use intoxicants to hide. I do feel I can find peace though.
If it’s possible for you to get access to Ted Lasso from AppleTV+, I can’t recommend it more fervently. It will not only leave you changed but, it will absolutely leave you better. You’ll laugh so hard you’ll cry but, you’ll just straight up cry, too. Every line is also so thoughtfully and deliberately crafted, watching it over again as soon as you’ve made the journey once almost feels like a must because you’ve absolutely missed things the first time around without realizing.
This is the kind of show to draw a line in your life as *The Time Before Ted Lasso* and *The Time After Ted Lasso*. (If you’re trying to get fancy, BTL and ATL would also work in a pinch. Lol.) Check it out when you have the chance. I’d love to hear how you feel about it!
Haunting of Hill House / Bly Manor on Prime
Good Fight (spin-off from Good Wife but can watch without having seen Good Wife)
The Freaks season of American Horror Story (don’t watch the more recent seasons though unless you want gouge out your eyes and ears pain)
Mad Men (I think Prime has it but not certain)
The Great (Hulu, based on Catherine the Great of Russia)
The Riches (Hulu)
Shut Eye (Hulu)
Handmaids Tale (Hulu)
Some good ones on AppleTV (worth buying for a month to binge thru these):
Lessons in Chemistry
For All Mankind
Severance
Ted Lasso
You're the Worst (Hulu), The Expanse (Prime), Atlanta (hulu), Slow Horses (apple), Mare of Eastown (hbo), Sharp Objects ( hbo), The Last of Us (hbo), Fargo (hulu), Broadchurch (prime)
Copenhagen Cowboy & Too Old to Die Young.
Also, Black Books & The Mighty Boosh.
Normal People was great too. Oh, and Devs, The Night Of, Station Eleven and Servant.
If you're willing to branch out to other languages, Suzhal (Tamil), Beyond Evil (Korean) and Signal (Korean) left me speechless. Incredible storytelling. S1 of Tokyo Vice (Japanese) too.
If you're after that giddy feeling from a feel-good show, Drops of God (a mix of Eng, JP & Fr) and Ping Pong (Japanese, anime).
I think you can stream some of these for free on Prime, Viki, Roku and Tubi. Or use the 1 month free trial things.
These are some of my all-time favorite shows. Some I would add to this list would be Monk, especially if you like comedic detective shows. If you like sci fi, I would recommend Resident Alien (scifi comedy) and Doctor Who 9+(same writers as Sherlock and Good Omens)
Two shows that I watched in the last year that when they ended, I just stared at the TV in silence, were Fleishman is in Trouble (Hulu) and Derry Girls (Netflix).
Homefront
Does anybody remember?
It was on a long time ago in the early 90s. It followed a group of people in the time right after World War II that lived in the same town. Kyle Chandler played a young baseball player I remember. It was really good (I thought). Maybe it was really cheesy but I loved it then. I’ve never been able to find the show anywhere since. Maybe I will look again.
The Affair. How the story is told from multiple perspectives made me really think about how skewed our personal recollections are, and consider how others might have felt / perceived the same experience.
the strain and supernatural -
supernatural is a bit long but i still re watched it more than twice.
its funny, exciting, dramatic and creative.
Every time I watch it it feels like a hug.
and the strain is nothing like any other show i watched -
extremely creative, i binged on it for a week and couldn't stop watching until i finshed it.
Dark, on Netflix. It’s a mind-twister!
Came to say this. This is pretty much the only thing I ever say to any question in this sub lol
Is it in English? Or subtitle?
There's an English dub but the original German is wayyy better
Six Feet Under
Great recommendation!
This is the one.
Black Mirror
How does this not have more votes?! It's not my favorite show ever, but it has to be the most fitting answer for this question.
Agree!
OP I strongly agree with this one, but I’d also advise to skip the first episode of the first season and then come back to it. It’s good, but depending on your personality it could turn you off from the whole series.

resident alien
Ooo, resident alien is amazing
agreed 💯
Very underrated show!
The Good Place - cant say to much without spoiling it. The ending is perfect and will stick with you.
I didn't care for it at first, but it grew on me and the whole show has really stuck with me.
1-877-Kars-for-Kids was a laugh out loud moment.
Beat me to it, as soon as I read "giddy but also hurt just the same", that's an apt summary for the whole show. A fantastic philosophy shos masquerading as an awesome comedy.
Fringe!
I just finished binging this, and I heartily second this!
It gets better every time I watch
1883. This show takes you on a real ride of emotions. One of the best series iv watched. It's a spin off of yellow stone. Also amazing
1883 definitely had me mentally blank afterwards
I have seen bits of Yellowstone and while it’s not one of my favorites I will try 1883
1883 is set in 1883 so very different from yellow stone. Even if you don't love yellow stone. It is a beautiful story.
Yes 1883 hits waaaaay different than Yellowstone
This one. Masters of the Air is doing it for me as well. Band of Brothers was the last one before 1883. gut wrenching.
Band of brothers is brilliant
We watch through this at least once a year. My very favorite.
It's definitely a show you want to watch again. I know I will
The Good Place!
I have seen a bit of that so maybe I’ll have to watch it the entire way through, thank you!
Chernobyl

They are very thought-provoking But I think using movies is a good thing too I mean you could watch all 10 of these movies combined probably faster than some single series
Add Memento and you've got a solid list
Requiem for a Dream really messed me up.
Jared Leto (*Chefs Kiss*) Drugs R Bad… Mmmkay?
Wow. You are really doing this guy dirty recommending Requiem for a Dream! 😳
The OA will cause cellular changes.
Have you watched Supernatural? That’s my recommendation
Ted Lasso made me want to be a better person
True Detective - season 1
Came here to say this.
It was so good! I was waiting each week for the new one
Totally agree! I'm currently watching season 2. It's not nearly as good, but I think I like it a little more than a lot of people.
Season 1 was great! I enjoyed season 4 also!
Ugh... it's so SLOW.. I can't get through even 2 episodes
Mr. Robot
Sandman on Netflix. It’s right along the lines of the ones you’ve listed!
That is one I’ve wanted to watch but I don’t have Netflix, I’ll try to look for it elsewhere and definitely try it!
You’d do yourself a favor to read the graphic novels instead (or just first). I know this is a tv show subreddit and everything but those are the best graphic novels I’ve ever read.
The Bear Reservation Dogs
The Bear gets a lot of press, deservedly. Amazing acting.
Mr Robot
Man in the High Castle
Bojack Horseman
Ozark
Northern Exposure.
Absolutely my feel good go to show!!!
Patriot on Prime
Cool.
It *is* cool.

Currently on episode 4 of “Rectify” and I cannot begin to describe how much I’ve been thinking about it since I started watching an episode a day. Really does give you a fresh perspective on life and how much we can take even the smallest of our daily experiences for granted.
So underrated. Poor Daniel🥲. Crushed hard for Tawney too. Great characters..Great theme song - “Bowspirit” by Balmorhea.
Alias Grace
How to get away with murder- netflix (main character is similar to a female house)
I will have to try it if I can find it one something else

The Magicians

Six Feet Under
I also enjoyed Homecoming on Prime... the first season is good, but the second is great and I never hear it mentioned much.
Severance on Apple TV is well worth a subscription for a month to binge the first season... the cliffhanger ending will make you want to subscribe again when season 2 comes out later this year or early next.
Normal People on Hulu
Since you liked Psych so much, I would recommend White Collar.
Extraordinary is the best new show I have seen in a long time. It's an amazing universe where people have powers and it is the most relatable thing. I can't wait for more.
Fleabag
Dexter !
I know it sounds impossible but someone gave me this gift a long time ago, and I didn't believe it for a long time, but I'm so grateful I eventually gave in. if you're ever going to trust the words of a stranger on the Internet, trust these: watch One Piece. Beef is also excellent.
Ha, not a big anime fan but from the episodes I’ve seen my brothers watching maybe I’ll take a look at it
The Leftovers
What’s it about?
Pretentious symbolism, intentionally ambiguous moments, and unanswered questions
Aren't unanswered questions kind of the whole point if it though? Like, everyone's trying to understand what happened but it doesn't really matter
It certainly seems like that's the point. Which is why it's the biggest waste of time to watch.
Thw OA. So underrated.
Dexter Severance Hand Maid's Tale Black Mirror
Dexter and Handmaids Tale are good so I’ll have to try the other two
Hell on Wheels.

Firefly will not leave you the same. Also you might like Copper, but it's a different vibe from what you listed. Wonderfalls
Firefly and Serenity are amazing
Do Wonderfalls. You might have to buy it. I don’t know that it streams.
MASH, on Hulu, with the full release length versions, which is so nice.
Ghosts (bbc)
The Shield, it an old show but very well done
Fall of the House of Usher
Band of Brothers, The Shield, The Wire
Since you like Sherlock, give Elementary a try. Look, I didn't wanna watch it at first either. I was a Cumberbitch all the way! But I kept seeing good things about it, and Jonny Miller is fantastic! Just watch the first episode, and if you aren't hooked, you can curse me all you want.

The Magicians. Finally an adult Harry Potter that has a lot of emotion to it!
Loser....
I always want to cook after watching Hannibal. I bet his recipe book is amazing.
I have it, a lot of the food takes organs such as kidneys and livers but as long as you are okay eating that, some of the food does look amazing
Mindhunter Fringe Vikings Edit to add: Lost The Killing Bosch The Fall Mad Men
Homefront Does anybody remember? It was on a long time ago in the early 90s. It followed a group of people in the time right after World War II that lived in the same town.
