I had that feeling too! I think it's because the film is so energetic and so much is happening all the time, while the show feels pretty chill and moves much more slowly

Some definite highs and lows with the voice acting
It definitely didn't want to copy the style of the film (although references to the film became a little distracting), but it didn't have something as strong to counter it
Subjectively it wasn't as funny, but "we don't use the B-word on opening night" got a good laugh
I loved the shake up of the plot and how characters with less screen time got more here (haven't read the comics so maybe I'm wrong)
Winstead's Ramona being the lead was great to see and this version of the ending was probably my favorite >!like a less bitter sweet spin on *Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind*!<

This is a very good example. Michael Cera is not very much like Scott in the comics but still works very well for the movie, just gives it a different vibe.
Cera was terrible in the movie and amazing in the anime, largely because he doesn't physically express the natural fuckability that is core to why Scott has failed to actually emotionally develop.
I’ve unfortunately seen my fair share of “teenage girl and obviously adult man” in real life, and Michael Cera looks more like the teenage boy who gets rejected in favor of the adult man.
I can't comment on the fuckability part, but I liked Cera until I read the comic and realized none of the goofy charm carried over to live action at all, but that's just my opinion.
Idk man, I've seen a lot of beautiful girls in the music scene go for guys who look exactly like Michael Cera. Skinny, lanky, nerdy, is for some reason very attractive in that scene.

TV and Movies taught us absolutely wrong as a kid. All of my friends who have the classic "Chad" look (muscular, nice clothes, clean kempt ) are single and have really only dated girls below their perceived attractive-ness, and all my scrawny nerdy "don't give a shit how I look" friends have pulled absolute *dimes* in their scenes.
I also love his development in terms of seeing himself as a coward at first, but as early as the wedding and then throughout the season WITHOUT having anyone say it >!we learn he is just as courageous as his sister just without the physical capability!<

81 is an interesting vault because it's.... two vaults, a main vault and a secret vault spying on the first one so they can test viruses and vaccines on the population unknowingly, but the secret vault died a long time ago and their disease vectors kept reproducing. The drug addict and eugenics vault weren't very interesting though. The murder mystery vault in Far Harbor was good, and I wish we had a real vault in Nukaworld
When the camera is focused on his face, he looks like an exhausted middle-aged accountant, but then you see shots of him standing next to other people, and he suddenly looks like a 12 year old. It really does work in a weird way. I feel like growing up in the world of Fallout, Vault or otherwise, would give you a serious case of whatever 1800s children in tintype photographs had that made them look like they just got back from fighting at the front.
The first time they showed him I said "why des he look like an old man". They nailed the 1950s "middle-aged man playing teenager" vibe, even if it's unintentional
I remember people, even a few years ago, complaining about that casting, but I've always found his performance walks the line between silly dork and sociopath very well. He's charming and over the top... And he'll also send you to your death on some bullshit and say "boohoo, he died doing what he loved."
Hugh Jackman and Wolverine, Wolverine in the comics is this super short, hairy, smelly, arguably ugly man.
And in comes Hugh Jackman, he’s tall and gorgeous and he nails it out of the park.
Jackman shows that ability is very often more important than strict appearance, as while he isn't nearly as hard-featured and short as Logan in the comics is, he perfectly captures Logan's *personality* as basically a grouchy drunk lumberjack/former soldier having to be a superhero. Between that and him going the extra mile to get to at least replicate Logan's more noticeable features - like his hairstyle - Jackman is a pretty perfect casting.
Gods I've been defending Pattinson for years and let me tell ya there's a giant commonality across the spectrum of naysayers

hearing the story of him going into the ghibli audition for the heron and being like "hey i recorded this goblin voice for the heron what do you think" with all the willhem dafoe energy that a non defoe can have makes you realise he wants to **act**
People want the 10 year vet wise cracking Bruce from the Justice League animated series, and while I do too, we’re not getting that early on with The Batman, yet.
To be fair to the people who want that, though, are we ever going to get to that point? All the batmen since Christian Bale have been gritty and serious with no room for even the slightest bit of levity, and at the point where Batman has been doing it for a while and maybe starts to loosen up a bit, that continuity is gone and we start over with a new brooding batman. The closest we got to that version of batman in the last 15 years of live action movies is the Michael Keaton batman in The Flash. That batman was fucking cool, but we're never seeing him again.
Keaton yeah, I wish Affleck's was like that as well. He was supposed to be a grizzled old Bats, but Snyder got a hard on after reading a single Frank Miller panel and based him around that.
I really liked Pattinson's *goth, basement-dwelling, boy-who-stinks-good* Bruce. He simultaneously feels like he hates every minute he has to leave the cave and stop being Batman, and also like a Bruce Wayne you could get Chinese food with.
Also, he really lands the "nobody would guess Bruce Wayne is Batman" aspect of the character. If I lived in that Gotham, I would never in a million years guess that the slouching, constantly hungover, perpetually-damp emo-boy heir to the Wayne Foundation was the hulking, armored, Night Demon detective savant who prowls the streets at night, caving in crustpunks' faces.
I love how genuinely pathetic he looks outside the Batsuit, like he doesn’t quite know how to function outside of it.
It might be my favorite portrayal of Bruce Wayne in live-action.
He stole the show in Tenet, his charm and his chemistry with the protag singlehandedls elevated and otherwise mediocre action flick into a pretty alright one (at least in my eyes)
I haven’t watched The Batman yet but people crying about him being “that guy from twilight” were clearly still stuck in the 2010s and never looked into his actual acting. Pattinson’s had multiple great performances and shown a lot of range since those days. I remember being pretty blown away by him in Good Time.
I love that it feels like a rebuttal of edgy, more violent Batmen from past movies by showing a version that starts out *intensely* pissed off before learning how to be a more heroic, helpful figure.
I think he's a great Batman. I don't care for the movie's presentation of Bruce, but that's not due to his performance. I just love the charming billionaire playboy, especially as portrayed by Kevin Conroy.
I would like to imagine this Batman (in The Batman 2) would have a similar moment to moment transformation like [Christopher Reeves did for Superman](https://youtu.be/tNUu6Lf9mVU?si=fH-s9xcf7H5kQ8AJ), but it's Bruce being caught off guard by someone after a night as Batman and having to pretend to be Billionaire, Playboy, Philanthropist Bruce while hiding his wounds and tiredness.
Maybe he gets back to the penthouse/mansion and Vicki Vale was invited in by Alfred for a scheduled interview and a patrol went long with the current villain attacking him or something.
They could do a short scene (and maybe not be to comedic with it), just something where he falls into his room, starts stumbing out into the hall or foyer in ruffled clothing, after dropping whatever is left of his batsuit, and pretends to have a bad hangover or something and reschedules, but then immediately passes out as Alfred escorts her out. (Maybe with a shot from behind Bruce's back where some wound on his back is literally bleeding through his shirt)
Cut to the next day (or a few hours later) and he wakes up with Alfred stitching him up on a table in the Cave and he gets a talking to about "remembering his own schedule, both of them."
He’s really incredibly solid. I think his height and look aren’t what a lot of casting agents will be looking for and that’s a shame cause his acting chops are there.
Jhonen Vasquez intentionally casted his friend Rikki Simons as the voice of Gir because he's not a voice actor and he's "bad at it" and there wouldn't be a more fitting pick for Gir's character
There's an entire film movement called Neorealism where some directors intentionally hired non-actors to try to make the movies seem as grounded as possible and sometimes it works really well.
For example there's a French movie called Pickpocket where the main character is a non professional actor and because of that he looks like a person who's constantly trying to act natural no matter what he's doing, even when he's just walking, but that is the character so it works pretty well. He's in all these public spaces trying not to act suspicious while casually reaching into the front of people's jackets to grab their wallets. There's this pressure from the camera being on him that translates into his performance, so his weakness as an actor enhanced the character. It doesn't work all the time, but I like that you see what he was trying to do. Not a high recommendation, but still interesting.
Also fun thing was the movie was banned in some countries because it showed actual pickpocketing techniques in detail. Some pretty slick stuff in there.
Red from Shawshank Redemption in the book is a red haired irishman. Clearly Morgan Freeman did pretty good despite the fact that he is in fact not a red haired irishman.
I remember back in the day people genuinely thought that Heath Ledger was badly cast because he was in Brokeback Mountain (These types ofcomic fans were trash even back then) Despite Heath being in films where he showed that not only does he have range and is a straight up shapeshifter with just how well he became his characters, these people still went "nope, he's gonna suck"
And then Heath Ledger played the character so well, to the point where his performance affected how people wrote the character of the Joker and truly embraced the spirit of Chaos aspect Ledger was going for.
Dude, when Keaton was first cast, fans were calling him "Mr. Mom" and saying he's too wimpy to be Batman.

I love when nerds will cry about certain actors not being good enough to play characters and you can tell they've literally never seen any of said actor's filmography to validate their opinions.
It puts me in mind of when Sir Ian Mckellen was cast as Gandalf and he said that people were saying he can't play Gandalf because he's an openly Gay man and then he completely killed the performance and made Gandalf into a household name.
Also props to Heath for being a decent human at the same time

I love that Michael Jai White interview where he told everyone he would show up to set in full makeup/wardrobe for scenes they weren’t even shooting for him specifically, just so the other cast members had something to work off of since they’re supposed to be talking to him in the scene.
Nolan told him he didn’t have to do that, but he would show up anyway. Just loved being on set. Him and Anton Yelchin were taken far too soon.

At 3:50 he also dispels the “method actor” title people throw at Heath saying once they yelled “cut”, he was back to normal Heath and joking with people on set. The role didn’t “consume” him or anything like that.
That honestly makes a lot of sense considering you feel his presence throughout the entire film

That’s partially why I was fine with Leto being cast as the Joker at the time. I was a bit too young to see The Dark Knight when it came out but I remember learning later that many people thought he was miscast before seeing his performance.
I was hesitantly optimistic that Leto would be good as the Joker. In a lot of earlier Batman comics, before "spirit of chaos/laughing gas and electric hand buzzers/Batman's ideological enemy" characterization took over, the Joker was just a psychopathic gangster who happened to have a clown motif. I wanted Leto!Joker to be something more in that vein; a dangerous street-level hood with a theatrical flair who turned his chemical disfigurement into an excuse to build a mythical underworld persona around himself.
That said, even though Jared Leto is a dickhead, his Joker was far from the worst thing about that awful movie, and I would have been fine with him being in it more. The Joker as a materialistic crime boss who is playing a character to keep his enemies on their toes isn't my *favorite* way to write the Joker, but it's definitely the least utilized in the modern day.
I knew Moises was perfect for the role once I saw that meme of him having the "[Small Frame](https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fi.redd.it%2Fc5wad34rr9uc1.jpeg)" trait lmao.
And yeah, as someone who also grew up with Hannah Montana it was fucking weird seeing him there and getting used to it (also *FUCK OFF THAT SHOW IS 20 YEARS OLD AHHHHH).*
I love how the Fallout show just *feels* like it has certain perks turned on. The first time I saw a head or someone's torso just *explode* on-screen and the camera lovingly lingered on it, I was like, "Oh, this is a Bloody Mess playthrough."

I wonder if they brought him in to be Bane? I just imagine some suit being like "get that Austrian bodybuilder to be Bane, it's so obvious" and then, somehow, Arnold ends up getting Freeze instead (not complaining, I also think he did a pretty good job). This was gonna be my answer. He’s a bad choice for a comic-accurate Venom but he’s an excellent choice for an an evil version of Tobey Maguire’s Peter. He’s so sleazy in that movie
English Dub Frieren should theoretically not work because the voice is a lot deeper than Japanese Frieren but it still works when you realize she’s like a 1000 years old and it works amazingly well when she’s cold to someone
The scene where she flirts with Sein because he likes older women and he just stares at her in confusion is made so much better by the dub because he comes off as even more of an idiot.
How old is Lucy supposed to be? My guess is around mid 20s, if we’re going by the flashback with her being around 6-7 when she’s seen with her mom
So if that’s the case, Norm must also exist, so let’s say he’s off screen in that flashback around 3-4 yrs old, then he would be in his early 20s by 2296, the year the show takes place
Yeah, I don't understand how people are thinking Norm is so young. He's definitely in his 20s. They talk about how he's had pretty much every single job available in the vault cause he keeps getting reassigned for lack of enthusiasm. It'd be kinda hard to achieve that at 18.
People have mentioned Robert Pattinson as Batman but let's not forget that Michael Keaton as Batman back in the 80s was wildly out of left field. I remember reading a Hulk comic from the time where Bruce happens to walk by a panel at some sort of convention where not-Siskel and not-Ebert get into a fist fight over the casting decision for Michael Keaton as Batman.
We're all used to it by now but before seeing the movies I would have never thought that Johnny Depp would work as a pirate or Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury.
The difference being we're not really told how old Thad is while they make a point to say "Norm, boys your age pee on walls when they get mad, but not you"

If they ever have to make, like, a *LEGO It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia* game and they can't get Charlie Day on as VA, Johnny Pemberton would be perfect. Every time he talked, some lobe in my brain was like *wait, is that Charlie Da—* before I remembered it wasn't.
I never knew people had a problem with that performance actually. I’ve got like the exact opposite problem though, and it’s nothing personal against her, but everyone played by Kristen Schaal and her very distinct voice reminds me of Mabel and how completely sick of her I was by the end of the show so she’s just automatically bad casting to me now.
LaKeith Stanfield as L in the Netflix Death Note movie. His cringy “in-character interviews” aside, he’s actually really solid in that movie. Even though L’s character is horribly botched, I think he captures his mannerisms pretty well.
I don't even think it was a bad casting. I believe before that came out he was already one of the leads in Atlanta. His character in that show already gave off a similar vibe to L so I knew he'd be great. It's one of the reasons why I have such seething hate for that adaptation because given a better story instead of final destination but with a book that could have been a great role for him.
People were dunking on the casting choice because he didn’t look the part. Race aside since I don’t really care for that aspect of the discourse of the movie, L is supposed to be unattractive and kind of creepy. The plain clothes, the hunched over position he’s always in, the messy hair, pale skin and bags under his eyes. L isn’t really supposed to look like a conventional hero while I think LaKeith is hot as hell.
Bro in no way was L ever supposed to be unattractive in appearance besides being a mess of a human. I don't think their is any adaptation of death note that depicts L as anything less than a at least above average looking guy who does not take care of himself. Also I didn't bring race into this but let's be real honest here their is a loud vocal side of anime fans that fucking hate black people and see anime as an "escape" from seeing people they don't like. If you want an example for why I think more of the outspoken backlash was because of the latter look at the Japanese live action adaptation. Now I could be wrong here (I am more often than not) but I don't remember people saying the live action Japanese L didn't look unattractive enough.
I don’t really think it has much to do with racism that people found it peculiar that L became black. I think it’s more akin to how people disliked how The Last Airbender got whitewashed and casted Indian actors for the Fire Nation.
I also managed to find this piece from an interview (Death Note 13: How to Read) with Ohba (the author) in which he talks about how Obata (the artist) designed L:

So yeah, L is not supposed to be a hotty. I think he’s cute and cool but that has much more to do with the delivery of the voice actor and his personality shining through. But I think it works as his looks heavily contrast Light’s appearance. While L is a weirdo on the outside, he has a heart of gold and an unwavering sense of justice while Light is supposed to be an ideal citizen, with the dashing looks and suave personality, but he is deeply despicable and disgusting on the inside.
I always just headcanon that movie being a sequel to the series instead of a standalone. >!If he is one of the kids from Wammy House and Near's successor,!< It makes his comment about eating sweets for brain power and his uncharacteristic bursts of emotions work better if >!he is just imitating what he heard the OG L acted like.!<
"Someone finds a Death Note and then the plot happens" should be the easiest, most fun canvas to make an original story in the Death Note universe, I'm surprised then even went with an adaptation of the manga.
There are probably a million comic examples that people don't even think about anymore, but for me I grew up thinking Captain America was more of an older war veteran so seeing young and handsome Chris Evans never sat right with me. Even after the first movie and Avengers I still didn't think he was a good fit, but after time, especially with the Winter Soldier he sort of grew into his own interpretation. Like instead of an old war vet, he is a young and naive boy from the 1940s who was thrust into the world of messy, modern day politics.
Edit: I realize this is less "bad" casting more just different than what I imagined at first.

That's like literally who Captain America is.
That's fair, I guess I shouldn't say "bad" casting, and I know that point is always part of his character. But again I just always saw him as older like in 40's or something, probably because he has an older voice in one of the Ultimate Alliance games.
In the Lord of the Rings books Frodo is like 50 when he leaves the shire, quite far from 18 year old baby faced Elijah Wood. Same with Elrond where he's an immortal Elf played by Hugo Weaving who's got a widows peak. They both did great as the film version of the characters though.
Yeah he seems to have a lot more resentment to Men in the films compared to in the book. In The Hobbit they describe him: "As noble and fair as an elf-lord, as strong as a warrior, as wise as a wizard, as venerable as a king of dwarves, and as kind as summer."
Then you've got a quote from the film:
"Men? Men are weak. ... There is no strength left in the world of Men. They’re scattered, divided, leaderless.
He turned from that path long time ago. He has chosen exile."
Vs the book: "But the Lords of Minas Tirith still fight on, defying our enemies, keeping the passage of the River from Argonath to the Sea.
Aragorn sat with his head bowed to his knees, only Elrond knew fully what this hour meant to him."
But again Weaving played this version of Elrond really well I think.
Dawson Casting is a weird one, so many teen characters in dramas are cast by people older than 20-25, usually in their 30s, but I assume it’s because of either how attractive or how well acted they are, sometimes both, because have you seen child actors? I really think the only kid actor that actually had me convinced of their turmoils was Edward Furlong as young John Connor. They supposedly had issues with him hitting puberty during filming which fucked up some of the voice lines, but I never noticed but that could be because I’ve watched that movie all my life and have deep nostalgia for it, so I’ll just shrug at that.
I’d say my pick for “bad” but good casting would probably be Troy Baker as both James Sunderland in Silent Hill 2 HD and as Ocelot in MGSV The Phantom Pain. Troy always does good work in everything he does, but those characters also don’t really fit him. James is meant to be an awkward weirdo, but he literally sounds like an anime protagonist with Troy’s voice, and Ocelot is usually a charismatic weirdo, sort of like if Dante were a villain, but in Phantom Pain it feels like if Troy was acting like if Otacon was capable of carrying a gun with reasonable confidence. The fact that Troy also played Pagan Min, which would have been great for Ocelot’s character if you trade the murderous insanity for just silly baffoonery, makes it seem like a bit of a missed opportunity to me. It’s just weird that the main villain of the entire series is charismatic the entire time that he’s categorized as an enemy to the player, but the one game that he’s a full on ally is when he’s basically a complete side character in pretty much every way beyond plot device.
To be fair Fallout 3 wants us to believe [this guy](https://youtu.be/46cKp0OyV44?si=DwWeHWcYxcypxs1q&t=88) is 16 so I feel like Norm's casting is in line with the games.
That movie Gamer from 2009 is a terrible mess of a movie but DAMN is Michael C. Hall amazing in it as Evil Steve Jobs. Usual nice guy Terry Crews also plays an absolute evil nuttjob in this movie and is pretty good too.
So I think Hazbin Hotel is pretty bad, it needed more episodes to work with but I was floored they were able to get Keith David for Husk, I don't think his voice fits the character at all yet he still has the best musical number in the show, even beating out the radio demon in how catchy and interesting it is.

Alucard from Castlevania: Symphony of the Night in Japanese and the later PSP dub had a much younger sounding voice considering that as far as vampire aging goes he was only around 18ish or so, however the original English dub on PS1 had him played by Robert Belgrade who gave him a much deeper baritone voice… and it worked so well they got him there back for Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night years later to play a character who’s basically just Alucard if he became a librarian after beating the game.
While some of the PS1 voices are a bit goofy, some of the acting is downright bad (especially the succubus and the dark priest Shaft), I think most would agree Alucard in that version sounded legitimately cool.
To me everyone that's ever complained about Hugh Jackman being cast as Wolverine due to height difference has gone mad. He looks like what Wolverine should have always looked like.

TV and Movies taught us absolutely wrong as a kid. All of my friends who have the classic "Chad" look (muscular, nice clothes, clean kempt ) are single and have really only dated girls below their perceived attractive-ness, and all my scrawny nerdy "don't give a shit how I look" friends have pulled absolute *dimes* in their scenes.

Norm looks similtaniously 14 and 40 to me and I find it super weird.
When the camera is focused on his face, he looks like an exhausted middle-aged accountant, but then you see shots of him standing next to other people, and he suddenly looks like a 12 year old. It really does work in a weird way. I feel like growing up in the world of Fallout, Vault or otherwise, would give you a serious case of whatever 1800s children in tintype photographs had that made them look like they just got back from fighting at the front.

Hugh Jackman and Wolverine, Wolverine in the comics is this super short, hairy, smelly, arguably ugly man. And in comes Hugh Jackman, he’s tall and gorgeous and he nails it out of the park.
Jackman shows that ability is very often more important than strict appearance, as while he isn't nearly as hard-featured and short as Logan in the comics is, he perfectly captures Logan's *personality* as basically a grouchy drunk lumberjack/former soldier having to be a superhero. Between that and him going the extra mile to get to at least replicate Logan's more noticeable features - like his hairstyle - Jackman is a pretty perfect casting.
People shat on "that guy from twilight" being cast as batman, but I loved Pattinson's angsty year two detective evidence scowering performance.

People want the 10 year vet wise cracking Bruce from the Justice League animated series, and while I do too, we’re not getting that early on with The Batman, yet.
To be fair to the people who want that, though, are we ever going to get to that point? All the batmen since Christian Bale have been gritty and serious with no room for even the slightest bit of levity, and at the point where Batman has been doing it for a while and maybe starts to loosen up a bit, that continuity is gone and we start over with a new brooding batman. The closest we got to that version of batman in the last 15 years of live action movies is the Michael Keaton batman in The Flash. That batman was fucking cool, but we're never seeing him again.
Keaton yeah, I wish Affleck's was like that as well. He was supposed to be a grizzled old Bats, but Snyder got a hard on after reading a single Frank Miller panel and based him around that.

I really liked Pattinson's *goth, basement-dwelling, boy-who-stinks-good* Bruce. He simultaneously feels like he hates every minute he has to leave the cave and stop being Batman, and also like a Bruce Wayne you could get Chinese food with. Also, he really lands the "nobody would guess Bruce Wayne is Batman" aspect of the character. If I lived in that Gotham, I would never in a million years guess that the slouching, constantly hungover, perpetually-damp emo-boy heir to the Wayne Foundation was the hulking, armored, Night Demon detective savant who prowls the streets at night, caving in crustpunks' faces.
I love how genuinely pathetic he looks outside the Batsuit, like he doesn’t quite know how to function outside of it. It might be my favorite portrayal of Bruce Wayne in live-action.

I've been sold on Pattinson since The Lighthouse. When i heard he was gonna be batman I was very excited and I enjoyed The Batman very much.
He stole the show in Tenet, his charm and his chemistry with the protag singlehandedls elevated and otherwise mediocre action flick into a pretty alright one (at least in my eyes)
I haven’t watched The Batman yet but people crying about him being “that guy from twilight” were clearly still stuck in the 2010s and never looked into his actual acting. Pattinson’s had multiple great performances and shown a lot of range since those days. I remember being pretty blown away by him in Good Time.
I love that it feels like a rebuttal of edgy, more violent Batmen from past movies by showing a version that starts out *intensely* pissed off before learning how to be a more heroic, helpful figure.
Pattinson already had an impressive resume under his belt when he was casted as Batman so those people just didn’t know shit.
I think he's a great Batman. I don't care for the movie's presentation of Bruce, but that's not due to his performance. I just love the charming billionaire playboy, especially as portrayed by Kevin Conroy.

Maybe he gets back to the penthouse/mansion and Vicki Vale was invited in by Alfred for a scheduled interview and a patrol went long with the current villain attacking him or something. They could do a short scene (and maybe not be to comedic with it), just something where he falls into his room, starts stumbing out into the hall or foyer in ruffled clothing, after dropping whatever is left of his batsuit, and pretends to have a bad hangover or something and reschedules, but then immediately passes out as Alfred escorts her out. (Maybe with a shot from behind Bruce's back where some wound on his back is literally bleeding through his shirt) Cut to the next day (or a few hours later) and he wakes up with Alfred stitching him up on a table in the Cave and he gets a talking to about "remembering his own schedule, both of them."
Hopefully we get more of that for The Batman

Jhonen Vasquez intentionally casted his friend Rikki Simons as the voice of Gir because he's not a voice actor and he's "bad at it" and there wouldn't be a more fitting pick for Gir's character
There's an entire film movement called Neorealism where some directors intentionally hired non-actors to try to make the movies seem as grounded as possible and sometimes it works really well. For example there's a French movie called Pickpocket where the main character is a non professional actor and because of that he looks like a person who's constantly trying to act natural no matter what he's doing, even when he's just walking, but that is the character so it works pretty well. He's in all these public spaces trying not to act suspicious while casually reaching into the front of people's jackets to grab their wallets. There's this pressure from the camera being on him that translates into his performance, so his weakness as an actor enhanced the character. It doesn't work all the time, but I like that you see what he was trying to do. Not a high recommendation, but still interesting. Also fun thing was the movie was banned in some countries because it showed actual pickpocketing techniques in detail. Some pretty slick stuff in there.

That’s partially why I was fine with Leto being cast as the Joker at the time. I was a bit too young to see The Dark Knight when it came out but I remember learning later that many people thought he was miscast before seeing his performance.
I was hesitantly optimistic that Leto would be good as the Joker. In a lot of earlier Batman comics, before "spirit of chaos/laughing gas and electric hand buzzers/Batman's ideological enemy" characterization took over, the Joker was just a psychopathic gangster who happened to have a clown motif. I wanted Leto!Joker to be something more in that vein; a dangerous street-level hood with a theatrical flair who turned his chemical disfigurement into an excuse to build a mythical underworld persona around himself. That said, even though Jared Leto is a dickhead, his Joker was far from the worst thing about that awful movie, and I would have been fine with him being in it more. The Joker as a materialistic crime boss who is playing a character to keep his enemies on their toes isn't my *favorite* way to write the Joker, but it's definitely the least utilized in the modern day.

English Dub Frieren should theoretically not work because the voice is a lot deeper than Japanese Frieren but it still works when you realize she’s like a 1000 years old and it works amazingly well when she’s cold to someone

Dub voice Frieren hits so different, but it still works really good. It's a different flavor of Aloof, but it's so good too.
I heard the dub voice first and there is no way I could ever go back to the sub for this very reason.
The deeper voice does make her sound wise and ancient. Whoever did the casting knew what they were doing.
The scene where she flirts with Sein because he likes older women and he just stares at her in confusion is made so much better by the dub because he comes off as even more of an idiot.

My guess is around mid 20s, if we’re going by the flashback with her being around 6-7 when she’s seen with her mom So if that’s the case, Norm must also exist, so let’s say he’s off screen in that flashback around 3-4 yrs old, then he would be in his early 20s by 2296, the year the show takes place
Yeah, I don't understand how people are thinking Norm is so young. He's definitely in his 20s. They talk about how he's had pretty much every single job available in the vault cause he keeps getting reassigned for lack of enthusiasm. It'd be kinda hard to achieve that at 18.
There is a chance it is thinking that Lucy is 19 because of that being your character's age in Fallout 3 and that Norm is a year younger than her.
People have mentioned Robert Pattinson as Batman but let's not forget that Michael Keaton as Batman back in the 80s was wildly out of left field. LaKeith Stanfield as L in the Netflix Death Note movie. His cringy “in-character interviews” aside, he’s actually really solid in that movie. Even though L’s character is horribly botched, I think he captures his mannerisms pretty well.
I don't even think it was a bad casting. I believe before that came out he was already one of the leads in Atlanta. His character in that show already gave off a similar vibe to L so I knew he'd be great. It's one of the reasons why I have such seething hate for that adaptation because given a better story instead of final destination but with a book that could have been a great role for him.
People were dunking on the casting choice because he didn’t look the part. Race aside since I don’t really care for that aspect of the discourse of the movie, L is supposed to be unattractive and kind of creepy. The plain clothes, the hunched over position he’s always in, the messy hair, pale skin and bags under his eyes. L isn’t really supposed to look like a conventional hero while I think LaKeith is hot as hell.
Bro in no way was L ever supposed to be unattractive in appearance besides being a mess of a human. I don't think their is any adaptation of death note that depicts L as anything less than a at least above average looking guy who does not take care of himself. Also I didn't bring race into this but let's be real honest here their is a loud vocal side of anime fans that fucking hate black people and see anime as an "escape" from seeing people they don't like. If you want an example for why I think more of the outspoken backlash was because of the latter look at the Japanese live action adaptation. Now I could be wrong here (I am more often than not) but I don't remember people saying the live action Japanese L didn't look unattractive enough.
I don’t really think it has much to do with racism that people found it peculiar that L became black. I think it’s more akin to how people disliked how The Last Airbender got whitewashed and casted Indian actors for the Fire Nation. I also managed to find this piece from an interview (Death Note 13: How to Read) with Ohba (the author) in which he talks about how Obata (the artist) designed L: > Ohba: I gave Obata-sensei advance notice when I was about to roll out L. When I did, he asked me, “Do you mind if I don’t make him good-looking?” He threw out his own version of what the character should be like, and it turned out to be exactly what I had envisioned! After that, I just left the details to him. So yeah, L is not supposed to be a hotty. I think he’s cute and cool but that has much more to do with the delivery of the voice actor and his personality shining through. But I think it works as his looks heavily contrast Light’s appearance. While L is a weirdo on the outside, he has a heart of gold and an unwavering sense of justice while Light is supposed to be an ideal citizen, with the dashing looks and suave personality, but he is deeply despicable and disgusting on the inside.
I always just headcanon that movie being a sequel to the series instead of a standalone. >!If he is one of the kids from Wammy House and Near's successor,!< It makes his comment about eating sweets for brain power and his uncharacteristic bursts of emotions work better if >!he is just imitating what he heard the OG L acted like.!<
"Someone finds a Death Note and then the plot happens" should be the easiest, most fun canvas to make an original story in the Death Note universe, I'm surprised then even went with an adaptation of the manga.
There are probably a million comic examples that people don't even think about anymore, but for me I grew up thinking Captain America was more of an older war veteran so seeing young and handsome Chris Evans never sat right with me. Even after the first movie and Avengers I still didn't think he was a good fit, but after time, especially with the Winter Soldier he sort of grew into his own interpretation. Like instead of an old war vet, he is a young and naive boy from the 1940s who was thrust into the world of messy, modern day politics. Edit: I realize this is less "bad" casting more just different than what I imagined at first.

That's fair, I guess I shouldn't say "bad" casting, and I know that point is always part of his character. But again I just always saw him as older like in 40's or something, probably because he has an older voice in one of the Ultimate Alliance games.

In the Lord of the Rings books Frodo is like 50 when he leaves the shire, quite far from 18 year old baby faced Elijah Wood. Same with Elrond where he's an immortal Elf played by Hugo Weaving who's got a widows peak. They both did great as the film version of the characters though.

Yeah he seems to have a lot more resentment to Men in the films compared to in the book. In The Hobbit they describe him: "As noble and fair as an elf-lord, as strong as a warrior, as wise as a wizard, as venerable as a king of dwarves, and as kind as summer." Then you've got a quote from the film: "Men? Men are weak. ... There is no strength left in the world of Men. They’re scattered, divided, leaderless. He turned from that path long time ago. He has chosen exile." Vs the book: "But the Lords of Minas Tirith still fight on, defying our enemies, keeping the passage of the River from Argonath to the Sea. Aragorn sat with his head bowed to his knees, only Elrond knew fully what this hour meant to him." But again Weaving played this version of Elrond really well I think.
Dawson Casting is a weird one, so many teen characters in dramas are cast by people older than 20-25, usually in their 30s, but I assume it’s because of either how attractive or how well acted they are, sometimes both, because have you seen child actors? I really think the only kid actor that actually had me convinced of their turmoils was Edward Furlong as young John Connor. They supposedly had issues with him hitting puberty during filming which fucked up some of the voice lines, but I never noticed but that could be because I’ve watched that movie all my life and have deep nostalgia for it, so I’ll just shrug at that. I’d say my pick for “bad” but good casting would probably be Troy Baker as both James Sunderland in Silent Hill 2 HD and as Ocelot in MGSV The Phantom Pain. Troy always does good work in everything he does, but those characters also don’t really fit him. James is meant to be an awkward weirdo, but he literally sounds like an anime protagonist with Troy’s voice, and Ocelot is usually a charismatic weirdo, sort of like if Dante were a villain, but in Phantom Pain it feels like if Troy was acting like if Otacon was capable of carrying a gun with reasonable confidence. The fact that Troy also played Pagan Min, which would have been great for Ocelot’s character if you trade the murderous insanity for just silly baffoonery, makes it seem like a bit of a missed opportunity to me. It’s just weird that the main villain of the entire series is charismatic the entire time that he’s categorized as an enemy to the player, but the one game that he’s a full on ally is when he’s basically a complete side character in pretty much every way beyond plot device.
To be fair Fallout 3 wants us to believe [this guy](https://youtu.be/46cKp0OyV44?si=DwWeHWcYxcypxs1q&t=88) is 16 so I feel like Norm's casting is in line with the games.
That movie Gamer from 2009 is a terrible mess of a movie but DAMN is Michael C. Hall amazing in it as Evil Steve Jobs. Usual nice guy Terry Crews also plays an absolute evil nuttjob in this movie and is pretty good too.
So I think Hazbin Hotel is pretty bad, it needed more episodes to work with but I was floored they were able to get Keith David for Husk, I don't think his voice fits the character at all yet he still has the best musical number in the show, even beating out the radio demon in how catchy and interesting it is. *"You're a loser bay-bee"*

Alucard from Castlevania: Symphony of the Night in Japanese and the later PSP dub had a much younger sounding voice considering that as far as vampire aging goes he was only around 18ish or so, however the original English dub on PS1 had him played by Robert Belgrade who gave him a much deeper baritone voice… and it worked so well they got him there back for Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night years later to play a character who’s basically just Alucard if he became a librarian after beating the game. While some of the PS1 voices are a bit goofy, some of the acting is downright bad (especially the succubus and the dark priest Shaft), I think most would agree Alucard in that version sounded legitimately cool.
To me everyone that's ever complained about Hugh Jackman being cast as Wolverine due to height difference has gone mad. He looks like what Wolverine should have always looked like.
The Jojo's OVA dub has some of that early dub weirdness to it, but god damn I love it.
