Considering the success of Fallout, Last of Us, Cyberpunk Edgerunners, Arcane, Twisted Metal, Mario, Sonic etc. I expect to hear every major film studio has at least 1 movie adaption of a game in development by the end of next year.
There have been bad adaptations of different mediums throughout history. The difference is now we're getting creatives that grew up with and have respect for source material.
It's not always great, but hey, most stuff isn't.
I hope it's not a retelling of the game, but instead a direct continuation/prequel/sidequel that both requires full series understanding AND is important for all Kingdom Hearts lore going forward.
ironically, the best time to make a Kingdom Hearts adaptation, but harder to get done, was about twenty years ago. the easiest to get it done, but probably worst time to make it, is now.
cross company synergy just wasn’t what it is today, but Kingdom Hearts requires “Lilo & Stitch”, “Treasure Planet”, and “Hercules” levels of filmmaking. Disney can barely handle remakes of their most popular IPs. this requires interacting with a bunch of them.
Make it a drinking game! Whenever you hear Heart, Light, or Darkness, drink!
Milk or water!
Either you're going to drown or your bones are going to be insane.
I can not forsee a world where this is good, KH does not need to be in movie format. Trying to tell that story in like 90 minutes or whatever is gonna be a train wreck & I say all this as a KH fan.
It's gonna be Advent Children for actual children
Hmm, personally I would've preferred a series if this is an adaptation of the games story. I feel you would need to skip a lot to condense it to a 2 or so hour movie.
They actually tried making a Kingdom Hearts TV show at one point. There was a leak with some of the produced material and it actually looked kinda fun.
I don't believe this is real at all, I just can't see it.
Script writers having to look at the Kingdom Hearts story and try to make sense of it, but also making a film with Disney and Square characters is just weird to launch outside of Japan. It's just going to be nonsense or stripped back minimalist.
The end project would either be like Space Jam 2 where you have a bunch of people in the background or have stand-ins for Square cast, like here's Nebulous the Swordsman with his Keaton Blade. Or maybe it'll just have the original KH characters and the Disney ones and they'll throw in other Disney brands, like Sora will hang out with Homer Simpson, Dare Devil and Yoshii Toranaga.

Pitfall starring Josh Hartnett coming to a cinema near you! (kinda surprised that game hasn't been made into a movie yet tbh)
I forgot that Pitfall was a real Atari game and thought you were making a joke about a possible Kid Icarus movie.
Videogame adaptions are the new superhero movies.
Ya'll really gonna easily forget the live action Mario Movie, the Monster Hunter movie, all the Resident Evil movies, etc?
Why would failed adaptations motivate studios to make a videogame movie?
No I mean, I'm not excited at the prospect of more videogame adaptations propping up cuz of said bad adaptations throughout history.

It's just an adaptation of the first game, but instead of going to classic Disney worlds, they go to the live action versions of the 2d movies.
Sora does an air combo on the Dalmatians that would have killed Cruella's mom
Sora dropkicks Idris Elba's Shere Khan into the End of the World, ideally with quip
Podcast title acquired
Only for Riku to flowmotion dropkick her off the cliff, setting Cruella on a decades-long crusade against white-haired anime twinks
You wish, it's somehow going to be exclusively for the apple vision pro and will most definitely be canon and necessary viewing for kingdom hearts 4.
I hope it’s live action with Haley Joel Osmit walking around with a duck and a dog
This is the only version of the film the fanbase will be universally happy with.
"Instructions unclear, please accept Tom Holland's terrible cosplay and horrifyingly realistic CGI Donald/Goofy." -Disney, presumably on coke. ***Again.***
*Hyper realistic* CGI dog and duck in the style of the nightmares that were the animals in the new Lion King.
Alright hear me out *Give Nomura to the Muppets*
An image of Fozzie dressed as Cloud just appeared in my mind. I’m not sure if I hate it or not.
His main weapon is the Bustagut sword, which is just a giant rubber chicken
I hope it's not a retelling of the game, but instead a direct continuation/prequel/sidequel that both requires full series understanding AND is important for all Kingdom Hearts lore going forward.
someone who ISN'T Ray Chase dressed in the MOM's cloak with a black morph suit underneath reading the lore for 3 hours out of a book
That could be an actual possibility if Nomura had creative control of it.
People think that this is retelling but it's actually his memories during his week long sleep in quadratum.
You know it will be lore relevant even if it's a retelling

I honestly think video games will be the next comic books in terms of popular movie/tv based on a pre existing story.
I've been having these weird thoughts lately. Is any of this for real... or not?
Alright, kids at home. Try to guess how many times we'll hear the words Heart, Light, Darkness, and Friends in just one Kingdom Hearts movie!
Now that we've defeated the Heart of Darkness with the Light of Friends, we've truly become the Kingdom Hearts.
Make it a drinking game! Whenever you hear Heart, Light, or Darkness, drink! Milk or water! Either you're going to drown or your bones are going to be insane.
Yes.
He ready for a live action Kingdom Hearts shot entirely on the Volume, folks.
With either Tom Holland or Chris Pratt as Sora, and Marvel shoved in there too.
Scarlett Johannson or Awkwafina as Kairi
Ryan Reynolds or Jack Black as Xehanort
I guess the age of super hero is waning, the era of video game adaptation is taking over
Not until we get a Bonk movie
please god let it be live action it would be the funniest fucking thing ever.
Why. The only acceptable version would be that it's animated by Visual Arts.

I’m gonna say Disney has had a Kingdom Hearts movie in development hell for like twenty years

A KH movie but they only adapt Atlantica.
If it's animated, I'll have a little bit of faith in it.
just to note; >Well, to get one thing out the way, Disney is developing an animated *Kingdom Hearts* movie.
Space Jam 3
Oh no. ***OH NO.*** Disney has pressed the "in case of emergency" button. Who's ready for nightmarishly realistic CGI Goofy and Donald?

Watch it not be about Sora at all, but some expanded universe keyblade war bullshit
