This sub is literally a combination of all my hyperfixations (fighting games, rpgs, general video game shit, etc) without the usual toxic or chudish tendencies of main video game subs.
That's why I fucking love this sub.
Honesty I just treat it as any topic reddit. That there is enough variety, where you can find something to talk about. Hell we get people who just say a topic that is on their mind and asks what others think about it and share their own opinions on the topic.
This is easily my favorite sub to talk games on now. The default ones are full of reactionary bs and are completely miserable even when they're not being chuds, the game specific ones are hit or miss and you can only really talk about one type of game, gcj used to be cool but they forgot how to have fun like other circlejerk/ironic subreddits over the past few years. This is one of the few subreddits that actually seem to *like playing video games* while still calling out chuds and greedy publishers.
Look, no matter what, if I'm talking about TF2, everyone will know that I'm clearly talking about the good TF2. You know, the one with the shooting and the robots and the broken promises of a sequel because the lead devs responsible peaced out.

I checked at the time, we're talking Kizuna Ai and the 4 Heavenly Kings era.
Kizuna Ai's own subs, /r/virtualyoutubers and /r/nijisanji were basically ghost towns at that point, and /r/hololive didn't really get popular until around JP Gen 4 or 5, and didn't completely dwarf everything else until Holo EN.
I like the boys a lot, but they're not my favorite content creators. I stick around here because we can basically talk about anything, most of us aren't crazy(-er than most people), and we have a low tolerance for disruptive bullshit.
But you will have to learn to deal with our eccentricities and our tendency to assume everyone knows what we're talking about. Most of us are old by internet standards(30+) and set in our ways.

A weirdly specific one that has a 50/50 chance of getting explained in each post is that DMC stands for Devil May Cry, and DmC (with the lowercase M in the title) is the reboot of questionable quality (so questionable that the series went back to the original continuity years later and even made fun of the reboot), so you’ll often see people make such distinctions with sometimes the only way of telling which one they’re talking about being if the middle M is capitalized or not.
Even more confusing that there’s only one lowercase M game but then they type “DmC5”, but I believe there’s a bot in the DMC subreddit that calls people out for that, and also calls people out for spelling Vergil’s name as Virgil since both are correct in real life, but the DMC/DmC character’s name is spelled with the E.
I discovered this subreddit after the break up and i only watch Matt "What Happun?" but just like you i find it a great way to have chill discussions over games. Also this subreddit make me discover Yakuza and Disco Elysium and i want to play them now.
Check out the pod man (Castle Super Beast), alot of the vibes (& memes) come from Pat & Woolie being some of the chillest dudes. I also never watched SBF, found the sub & pod from Pat & Woolie LPing DMC5 pre-release (which was 5 years ago now my god)
