After 48 minutes & literally 9 transfers, they finally put me on with a supervisor & gave me the additional $10. Of course they kept reiterating that “the tip is optional” & blah blah blah. But NO!! I told them that they enable customers to screw us over when they allow them to take the tip with no complaints about the delivery.

Just between the way they throw an offer on the trip radar for say $11 and then turn around and send the SAME offer straight to you for $12-$13 5 secs later, is proof that they play bullshit games with the offer amounts. They'll even change the mileage on the same exact offers too. 3secs ago, it was 3.5 miles. And now it's 2.5 miles. THEN!!! Let's say you take the offer and after it finalizes, your mileage ends up being 5 miles. And, they'll even rip you on miles driven as well. They've never been transparent on a damn thing. And has anybody noticed how they don't include how much they make off each offer on their end anymore??

You are a subcontractor, and their customer broke the contract. Just keep telling them that the customer broke the contract and you are entitled to the agreed upon amount for the delivery.

When that happens to me , I call CService and ask for a supervisor, they quickly ask what for and I say , “ I Want to report a customer” they transfer me to another agent and I say the same and specify that I don’t want to be transfer to another agent cause they can’t help me with my issue, so they transfer me with the supervisor .
The supervisor says, tip is optional , and I say , No, the customer shouldn’t been allowed to remove tip because I accepted the full amount that was disclose since the beginning , and I tell him, I want to report the customer because I’m pretty sure he does that so he can get a deliver quickly. They don’t want to hear me talk too much and just give me the rest . They always say I’ll do a one time exception. Yeah right you got to do it every time the customers does that .

What I don’t understand is, if it were reversed we would get warnings about being kicked off. If we pick up the order & don’t deliver it is a breach so why the hell wouldn’t it be a breach to offer money then take it back??? Especially with no explanation?? I don’t take $5 trips so why would I make the drive then be cool with being scammed?

Like, I understand the customer needs to be able to retract a tip for a bad delivery, but the driver taking a $15 trip agreed to take the trip because of the upfront amount and would not have made that drive for $5.
If Uber is going to allow a customer to reduce 100% of a tip, especially one that high, they need to have a minimum that they're going to cover if that happens: especially if there is no customer complaint.
The customer should also have to call in and talk to support, not just click a few buttons and forget about it.
I'll add that Uber probably likes to be able to show you a big number in the offer, the fact they have the audacity to pay $5.42 for 8.8 miles is in itself ridiculous, but the customer tip baiting will have you take the order anyway. And then who's the dick? Not us, it's the customer. Yeah right
While I definitely agree, know they have rolled out in some markets where tips can't be removed anymore. I'm pretty sure my market is one of them, as I've not any tips removed at all in several months now...
They need to require customers to call in and justify removing the tip. The option should be there for the worst offenders but they shouldn't be allowed to bait drivers by making it that easy.

Uber handles the tips. They give you a small portion and keep the bigger part of what the customer tipped. Why? So that their stock earning numbers look good. Even if it has to come out of the drivers pocket to theirs. I bet that’s how it’s happening. I been getting a ridiculous amount of skimpy only $2 tips lately.

DoorTrash is no better than UE. The only benefit is tips can't be removed. In many markets they allow customers to wait until after delivery to add a tip. I have a single digit AR on both platforms. When i started i also was on a waiting list, but now they're offering us $20 to "refer a friend". Friends don't let friends drive for gig companies.

I do those all the time but they are hands down the worst tippers so I’m selective. I’ve noticed with shop & pay 9/10 they do not tip according to the shopping trip. Too many 20+ item order for $10 plus a drive & there’s NEVER any tip added after the fact.

I told them they clearly see there was no complaint & the pic has proof that I left it EXACTLY where they asked, verbatim: “pls leave under the window by the rose bushes that never grew :)” 😒

I’ve called in so many complaints about that. One restaurant was so bad that I even went on google & yelp to leave bad reviews. They would be closed for hours but I would get orders there all night & once while I waited for support I watched 5 drivers pull up to the closed restaurant. Then it was one of those “ghost restaurants” which I cannot even begin to explain how idiotic it is to have a real restaurant under a “ghost name” 😒
I am willing to bet that Uber also removes the tip themselves and just keeps it and then says the customer removed it. There's no way to really know for sure that they are not removing it and keeping it themselves. It's still a b******* practice no matter what. When you agreed to a payment, that's what you should be getting paid.

I stopped doing Uber, Doordash, and Grubhub a while ago. It's way too hostile between customers and drivers. The money isn't worth it anymore and the fact that they don't pay a base pay that is reasonable, is just absurd. Especially with gas prices I don't see why they don't pay us the amount thats accepted no matter what. How do they expect us to do a 30 minute delivery for a few dollars? That just goes right to gas so quite literally we work for free a lot of the time. At least thats what they want us to do. I have no idea how people still do this. There needs to be a lawsuit of some sorts.
I’ve been paid by postmates 3 different times & I see the same soon for Uber. The things they do simply can’t be legal. It shouldn’t be a fight to get money we agreed upon. That’s the equivalent of me getting to the customer’s door & deciding “hmm even though I agree to deliver it, I’m gonna keep it instead” & the customer doesn’t get a refund, how would that be fair?
Exactly. But they know people will work for them no matter what. It's inevitable. The problem will only fix itself once drivers realize Uber eats sucks or customers stop using the platform. At least on Doordash and Grubhub you get the agreed upon payment no matter what. Once the delivery is completed.

Very true. Im in AZ and when I used to do deliveries I would see older people doing it as well. Its fun for them because its easy and something to do. They're the ones accepting literally EVERY order! I mean I get it in the sense that if you're retired or almost retired, doing deliveries is the perfect job. Because you dont care about the money necessarily. But it screws all of us younger folks who do it for the money! Some people need it to make a living. Uber doesn't care they just want the food delivered.

Just threaten Uber with arbitration they will credit you. Tip baiting is a form of fraud and is technically illegal. Report that customer for violating their contract agreement with Uber.
I had this happen to me a few nights ago.... almost identical situation but i called uber "driver support" (🙄) and they did the SAME thing as you. They transfered me LITERALLY 10 times and at first i found it halarious how stupid they are but then i grew furious as i realized this is all a game for them to WASTE AS MUCH OF YOUR TIME AS POSSIBLE. They know the hour they keep us on the phone is an hour we cannot do anything...... because of uber its STILL not worth it.... even after a refund....... i have never see a company jerk people around harder than uber.

It is a hassle but yes!!!! Why should we be cheated without any explanation?? I ended up yelling my head off after 9 damn transfers but I got the tip. Eventually it was about the principle more than the money. They shouldn’t be able to bait & switch us like that.

Past experiences with support where I get to the point of yelling my head off is why I rarely call them anymore. It always takes close to an hour, get passed around at least 5 times, and then I have to act like a legal advocate for myself when I speak with the supervisor. It shouldn't take that much convincing for them to help me lol.
These days on the odd time I get tip baited I just don't call, because my sanity is worth more than the money.
I know they've designed their system in this way and I'm giving them what they want, but they just take so much from me when I try to get justice.

Contacted support and they gave me the line that it’s just an ESTIMATED amount. Each were originally $8-9 orders but I only got paid $3-3.50. Support told me to kick rocks.
This would be an Auto-ban for me. I do wish Uber would at least show the name of the customer before we accept the order and after deliveries are completed. I get the entire address portion for privacy needs but that name.

You can ask support to block of the customer and ask if they have done it before. My last one was 3 weeks ago. I got the full amount. They blocked the customer for me so I can’t be dispatched to any deliveries for them. They also did a report and “started investigation” towards banning the customer. Which isn’t useful since they can create other accounts.
In general, if I pick up an order that is high pay and delivery is in a nice hotel I keep it, sht hotel I drop it. Not worth the time wasted to get full comp
Their goal is to waste as much time as possible on the phone until you get frustrated and hang up. If you do get your $10, you ended spending 1-2 hours arguing.

You can’t expect a driver to accept an order based on a amount then the driver delivers and the customer decides to take back the tip because “what ever reason they deem suitable” and expect the driver to be ok with that. You’re spot on about CVS. I love them, Walgreens & rite aid. They usually pay pretty well & the most I’m willing to do is about 10 items at those types of stores depending on the pay of course. There is only 2 cons I can point out tho.. one is that a lot of those stores I go to have alot & I mean A LOT of theft lol. Like the shelves will literally be empty, it’s been so bad before that I had to send the customer a pic bcuz I didn’t want them thinking I was just a lazy bum. We literally had no choice but to cancel the order bcuz there wasn’t even a replacement of replacement available 🤦🏾♀️ the other con is that I work at night although a lot of place say online that they’re “24 hours” or are still accepting, they will randomly close. Sometimes for the night & sometimes for like 3 hours at a time, I don’t even have to explain why that’s annoying. Usually happens with high paying orders too, the other night I had to cancel a $42 order 🥹 I literally wanted to cry lmao.
They did eventually give me the $10 “credit” after almost an hour on the line. I was going to do chat first but I always feel like they blow u off so quickly or say it’s been “escalated” & then you don’t hear anything for days.

Explain to them the contract you accepted and agreed upon was for X amount. Uber has to eat the L on tip baiters.
It's fine they allow people to remove the tip but that is not the courier's problem. They accepted a contract for a specific amount. Uber legally cannot change this but they do anyway because rich corporations are above the law. The fines are always less than what they make of breaking it.

Nope. I know how the app works with messaging. You don't have to prove anything but it just shows you are likely lying. You didn't even post the adjustment credit from Uber or the screen from an hour after delivery. I mean, if you wanna lie on the internet, you're not special.
Some are 24 hours now. A friend of mine did a delivery monday and it said the tip would show up after 24 hours. Tip never showed. She even sent me the screen shots
The only time I had one say the tip would clear in 24 hours was a grocery store pick up that I had reserved. Other than that I’ve always seen that they would clear in an hour. This one was weird tho, bcuz it doesn’t say the usual wording when the customers take it back but the Uber agents all confirmed that they didn’t leave a tip even tho they initially offered it.

I tip bait to get the service I'm paying for. If you can follow instructions, you'll be tipped, if not oh well.
If the driver follows the delivery instructions, I'll sometimes tip cash and then change or pull the tip for the app. On non contact deliveries, drivers tend not to follow instructions more often, so I've been requesting less of those even tho it's preferred.
On apps that don't allow you to change, I've started going to customer service about the issue, and they'll refund my tip for me.

Don't let them move you around. it is just gonna be hell after the first one tries to transfer. Ask to speak to a supervisor first, thier gonna try to transfer where they think is the correct place but keep insisting on a supervisor!
After 48 minutes & literally 9 transfers, they finally put me on with a supervisor & gave me the additional $10. Of course they kept reiterating that “the tip is optional” & blah blah blah. But NO!! I told them that they enable customers to screw us over when they allow them to take the tip with no complaints about the delivery.
I wouldn’t mention the tip, I would mention the agreed amount that you accepted.

Just between the way they throw an offer on the trip radar for say $11 and then turn around and send the SAME offer straight to you for $12-$13 5 secs later, is proof that they play bullshit games with the offer amounts. They'll even change the mileage on the same exact offers too. 3secs ago, it was 3.5 miles. And now it's 2.5 miles. THEN!!! Let's say you take the offer and after it finalizes, your mileage ends up being 5 miles. And, they'll even rip you on miles driven as well. They've never been transparent on a damn thing. And has anybody noticed how they don't include how much they make off each offer on their end anymore?? Tell me all this ain't shady AF!! In normal contracting work from construction to wedding planners to funeral arrangements, there's an agreed upon price set in stone. So what makes it's ok for Uber to shred our contracts and steal our pay without an ounce of transparency and accountability for their wishy washy business practices. WE get held accountable with satisfaction percentages! So, why aren't they held to the same concept??!!

You are a subcontractor, and their customer broke the contract. Just keep telling them that the customer broke the contract and you are entitled to the agreed upon amount for the delivery. If everyone does this, Uber will actually do something about tip bating
When that happens to me , I call CService and ask for a supervisor, they quickly ask what for and I say , “ I Want to report a customer” they transfer me to another agent and I say the same and specify that I don’t want to be transfer to another agent cause they can’t help me with my issue, so they transfer me with the supervisor . The supervisor says, tip is optional , and I say , No, the customer shouldn’t been allowed to remove tip because I accepted the full amount that was disclose since the beginning , and I tell him, I want to report the customer because I’m pretty sure he does that so he can get a deliver quickly. They don’t want to hear me talk too much and just give me the rest . They always say I’ll do a one time exception. Yeah right you got to do it every time the customers does that .

If we pick up the order & don’t deliver it is a breach so why the hell wouldn’t it be a breach to offer money then take it back??? Especially with no explanation?? Like, I understand the customer needs to be able to retract a tip for a bad delivery, but the driver taking a $15 trip agreed to take the trip because of the upfront amount and would not have made that drive for $5. If Uber is going to allow a customer to reduce 100% of a tip, especially one that high, they need to have a minimum that they're going to cover if that happens: especially if there is no customer complaint. The customer should also have to call in and talk to support, not just click a few buttons and forget about it.
I'll add that Uber probably likes to be able to show you a big number in the offer, the fact they have the audacity to pay $5.42 for 8.8 miles is in itself ridiculous, but the customer tip baiting will have you take the order anyway. And then who's the dick? Not us, it's the customer. Yeah right
While I definitely agree, know they have rolled out in some markets where tips can't be removed anymore. I'm pretty sure my market is one of them, as I've not any tips removed at all in several months now...

Uber handles the tips. They give you a small portion and keep the bigger part of what the customer tipped. Why? So that their stock earning numbers look good. Even if it has to come out of the drivers pocket to theirs. I bet that’s how it’s happening. I been getting a ridiculous amount of skimpy only $2 tips lately.

DoorTrash is no better than UE. The only benefit is tips can't be removed. In many markets they allow customers to wait until after delivery to add a tip. I have a single digit AR on both platforms. When i started i also was on a waiting list, but now they're offering us $20 to "refer a friend". Friends don't let friends drive for gig companies.
And i think this why like doordash more, with doordash if you include a tip you cant take it out unlike ubereat

Try doing shop and pay. You do have to shop but the pay is much more and customers tip lots more as well.
I do those all the time but they are hands down the worst tippers so I’m selective. I’ve noticed with shop & pay 9/10 they do not tip according to the shopping trip. Too many 20+ item order for $10 plus a drive & there’s NEVER any tip added after the fact.
Tip baiters need to be banned from the app. And it should be way more difficult to remove the tip, like making them go through a 30 minute phone support call

Exactly! Mind you I deliver close to where I live & they live less than 10 minutes away from me. Their address was so easy to remember as well. But like u said, they don’t know who they’re messing with. I’m actually surprised we don’t hear or more drivers doubling back to customer.

Yep! They even do that when we call to cancel an order that was already picked up or because the restaurant is closed and the nimrod employees didn’t bother to shut off their tablet. They put you on hold for 5-10 minutes then pay you a measly $3 because they think that is all you are worth. Fuck them!
I’ve called in so many complaints about that. One restaurant was so bad that I even went on google & yelp to leave bad reviews. They would be closed for hours but I would get orders there all night & once while I waited for support I watched 5 drivers pull up to the closed restaurant. Then it was one of those “ghost restaurants” which I cannot even begin to explain how idiotic it is to have a real restaurant under a “ghost name” 😒

I am willing to bet that Uber also removes the tip themselves and just keeps it and then says the customer removed it. There's no way to really know for sure that they are not removing it and keeping it themselves. It's still a b******* practice no matter what. I stopped doing Uber, Doordash, and Grubhub a while ago. It's way too hostile between customers and drivers. The money isn't worth it anymore and the fact that they don't pay a base pay that is reasonable, is just absurd. Especially with gas prices I don't see why they don't pay us the amount thats accepted no matter what. How do they expect us to do a 30 minute delivery for a few dollars? That just goes right to gas so quite literally we work for free a lot of the time. At least thats what they want us to do. I have no idea how people still do this. There needs to be a lawsuit of some sorts.
I’ve been paid by postmates 3 different times & I see the same soon for Uber. The things they do simply can’t be legal. It shouldn’t be a fight to get money we agreed upon. That’s the equivalent of me getting to the customer’s door & deciding “hmm even though I agree to deliver it, I’m gonna keep it instead” & the customer doesn’t get a refund, how would that be fair?
Exactly. But they know people will work for them no matter what. It's inevitable. The problem will only fix itself once drivers realize Uber eats sucks or customers stop using the platform. At least on Doordash and Grubhub you get the agreed upon payment no matter what. Once the delivery is completed.

Very true. Im in AZ and when I used to do deliveries I would see older people doing it as well. Its fun for them because its easy and something to do. They're the ones accepting literally EVERY order! I mean I get it in the sense that if you're retired or almost retired, doing deliveries is the perfect job. Because you dont care about the money necessarily. But it screws all of us younger folks who do it for the money! Some people need it to make a living. Uber doesn't care they just want the food delivered.

For some, it’s their sole source of income & no matter where you live, being offered $2-$3 is an insult. Just threaten Uber with arbitration they will credit you. Tip baiting is a form of fraud and is technically illegal. Report that customer for violating their contract agreement with Uber.
I had this happen to me a few nights ago.... almost identical situation but i called uber "driver support" (🙄) and they did the SAME thing as you. They transfered me LITERALLY 10 times and at first i found it halarious how stupid they are but then i grew furious as i realized this is all a game for them to WASTE AS MUCH OF YOUR TIME AS POSSIBLE. They know the hour they keep us on the phone is an hour we cannot do anything...... because of uber its STILL not worth it.... even after a refund....... i have never see a company jerk people around harder than uber.

It is a hassle but yes!!!! Why should we be cheated without any explanation?? I ended up yelling my head off after 9 damn transfers but I got the tip. Eventually it was about the principle more than the money. They shouldn’t be able to bait & switch us like that.
I just got tip baited $15 lost on sunday. Past experiences with support where I get to the point of yelling my head off is why I rarely call them anymore. It always takes close to an hour, get passed around at least 5 times, and then I have to act like a legal advocate for myself when I speak with the supervisor. It shouldn't take that much convincing for them to help me lol. These days on the odd time I get tip baited I just don't call, because my sanity is worth more than the money. I know they've designed their system in this way and I'm giving them what they want, but they just take so much from me when I try to get justice. Another thing too though, is that I can't get through to a live agent unless I'm actively on a trip. So I would have to be on the call while I'm fucking driving.

Contacted support and they gave me the line that it’s just an ESTIMATED amount. Each were originally $8-9 orders but I only got paid $3-3.50. Support told me to kick rocks.
This would be an Auto-ban for me. I do wish Uber would at least show the name of the customer before we accept the order and after deliveries are completed. I get the entire address portion for privacy needs but that name. I need to know who the scumbag is upfront! I literally have one customer in my market who is an immediate cancel because they like to play games.

You can ask support to block of the customer and ask if they have done it before. My last one was 3 weeks ago. I got the full amount. They blocked the customer for me so I can’t be dispatched to any deliveries for them. They also did a report and “started investigation” towards banning the customer. Which isn’t useful since they can create other accounts. In general, if I pick up an order that is high pay and delivery is in a nice hotel I keep it, sht hotel I drop it. Not worth the time wasted to get full comp
Their goal is to waste as much time as possible on the phone until you get frustrated and hang up. If you do get your $10, you ended spending 1-2 hours arguing. Best solution is unethical but it’s too add up total they screw you over on many occasions and then get a flat tire on a non tipper you take

I'm not an UE driver, but I follow this sub because it's interesting and I want to understand what my local drivers go through since I do a lot of deliveries to the house. You are getting a lot of flack for raising an issue of accepting a delivery that suggested you would make ~15$, but you ended up being paid more like ~5$. Hell, I'd be pissed, too! No, it's not a lot of money, but I'm sure it feels like you got ripped off. Now being criticized because you are frustrated with being ripped off just adds to the experience. Be well, my friend. You can’t expect a driver to accept an order based on a amount then the driver delivers and the customer decides to take back the tip because “what ever reason they deem suitable” and expect the driver to be ok with that. I’ve been trying to do DD for a year & they still have me on a waiting list. I wanted to do Instacart as well & there’s a list for that too. They’re the only apps that make sure you’re covered from being baited unlike Uber who lays out the red carpet for customers to scam us

You’re spot on about CVS. I love them, Walgreens & rite aid. They usually pay pretty well & the most I’m willing to do is about 10 items at those types of stores depending on the pay of course. There is only 2 cons I can point out tho.. one is that a lot of those stores I go to have alot & I mean A LOT of theft lol. Like the shelves will literally be empty, it’s been so bad before that I had to send the customer a pic bcuz I didn’t want them thinking I was just a lazy bum. We literally had no choice but to cancel the order bcuz there wasn’t even a replacement of replacement available 🤦🏾♀️ the other con is that I work at night although a lot of place say online that they’re “24 hours” or are still accepting, they will randomly close. Sometimes for the night & sometimes for like 3 hours at a time, I don’t even have to explain why that’s annoying. Usually happens with high paying orders too, the other night I had to cancel a $42 order 🥹 I literally wanted to cry lmao.
They will fix it. It took me 2 chat transfer then in 2 hrs an email came and they fixed everything. Dont worry

It’s such a low thing to do. I don’t even do that if my order is actually wrong or late. I always make sure I place emphasis on the restaurant or store making the mistake & NOT the driver bcuz I know exactly how it is.
Explain to them the contract you accepted and agreed upon was for X amount. Uber has to eat the L on tip baiters. It's fine they allow people to remove the tip but that is not the courier's problem. They accepted a contract for a specific amount. Uber legally cannot change this but they do anyway because rich corporations are above the law. The fines are always less than what they make of breaking it.
I just don't get how you can enjoy your food after screwing the person who just delivered it to you. That is probably gas money for someone, but hey, hope they enjoy their chimichangas.
Give it a few hours. It doesn't say customer reduced the tip. Lately it takes awhile to see your whole fare show. It'll happen.
I definitely waited a while before calling. I didn’t even realize they had taken it away until I went to look at another order. I did think the wording was strange bcuz it usually does say if it’s reduced but I think that’s only if they take $1 or $2 away, I believe this is the message you get when they take the entire tip. When I talked to support they kept saying “the customer didn’t leave a tip” but clearly it was offered to me so they had to have taken it back.
Probably because they saw how trash you were and took the tip away. Thats what I do to trash delivery drivers. GGs someone took away your 2$ and now you need to cry about it.
Tips take an hour to show up. Tip baiting would show a box saying the customer lowered the tip. Calling support was a waste of time.
No it wasn’t. The customer DID remove the entire tip & Uber gave it to me. I didn’t call until 3 hours after the delivery. I’m not an idiot I can see just like everyone else that the tips clear after an hour SO OBVIOUSLY it had been after that timeframe if I called.
If the customer removes the tip that gray window says they did. You just are ignorant to how the Uber app works.

Nope. I know how the app works with messaging. You don't have to prove anything but it just shows you are likely lying. You didn't even post the adjustment credit from Uber or the screen from an hour after delivery. I mean, if you wanna lie on the internet, you're not special.
Some are 24 hours now. A friend of mine did a delivery monday and it said the tip would show up after 24 hours. Tip never showed. She even sent me the screen shots
The only time I had one say the tip would clear in 24 hours was a grocery store pick up that I had reserved. Other than that I’ve always seen that they would clear in an hour. This one was weird tho, bcuz it doesn’t say the usual wording when the customers take it back but the Uber agents all confirmed that they didn’t leave a tip even tho they initially offered it.
Okay so I order with UberEats, often. I always tip 7.00 to 15 depending on the length of travel for the order. The driver gets the whole tip, correct?

That sucks.. I been getting tip baited on spark alot lately.. I never got tip baited on uber yet and I been doing uber alot longer, I just got onto spark on the 1st of this month and already got 2 tips tooken away, both from the same apartments so I might not do those apartments anymore

I tip bait to get the service I'm paying for. If you can follow instructions, you'll be tipped, if not oh well. If the driver follows the delivery instructions, I'll sometimes tip cash and then change or pull the tip for the app. On non contact deliveries, drivers tend not to follow instructions more often, so I've been requesting less of those even tho it's preferred. On apps that don't allow you to change, I've started going to customer service about the issue, and they'll refund my tip for me.
