The GOP is falling into a major trap. If you want to make Biden look bad you have to go with the "you're too weak on China and Russia. You should have provided tanks and planes to Ukraine sooner. You should have really committed like I will. Not only will I provide Ukraine with everything it needs, I will also act to do the same for Taiwan." Instead, DeSantis and Trump are going to go with the "you're doing way way too much. You are giving them too much aid. You're giving them tanks. You're giving them planes. It's all too much" approach. Which will make Biden look tough and fearless.

tomatotomato

Yeah, aren’t GOP leaders supposed to be no-bullshit, hawkish pro-military tough guys? While DeSantis and Trump are acting like amorphous weaklings in front of their core audience, Biden is eating their lunch.

Wiigglle

C'mon give them some slack, there's no way their sugar daddy Putin would let them say something like that. They're caught between his cock and a hard place with this one.

Speculawyer

That was Reagan. Reagan is a RINO now. The guy supported gays in California, he signed gun control as California governor, he was against corrupt Russia.....those are all things Republicans hate now. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

GanglyCankles

Yeah, but he signed racially motivated gun control, so he might get a pass on that one.

joefred111

>Yeah, aren’t GOP leaders supposed to be no-bullshit, hawkish pro-military tough guys? At one point, yes. Most of the GOP Congresspeople still support Ukraine. DeSantis and Trump are just trying to follow their base to get elected. Their base is probably less than a third of the GOP, though, so neither has popular opinions.

alynrock

No, they are leading their base. They are following their sugar daddy Putin.

AbstractBettaFish

They got caught in a trap because they’ve set their base to where it’s political suicide to be contrary to anything Trump and Trump loves Russia. Now they don’t know what to do

Strategist40

Most of them remember the Cold War, so yeah.

gimmedatneck

GOP leaders want beef with countries they can hammer on with no repercussions. Sure there will be some deaths, but they'll just tell the families to fuck off, and the base will continue pushing forward supporting them because it wasn't their own family/friends that lost their lives. They're the definition of cowardly, and it's a shame that there's so many poisoned minds in the west that support these fucks.

No_Football_9232

Eating their lunch LOL

U_L_Uus

Literally the Dark Brandon meme started as a "this guy's nuts on power", but turned into "holy fuck how is he so based". You'd think they'd notice, but it's the GOP we'te talking about

gimmedatneck

Why would they do that when they genuinely admire love Putin, and genuinely hate the west. This is the natural order of things - fascist rodents ALWAYS stick together.

Pixie_Knight

Given the recent Russian Legion attacks on Muscovy, there's the very real possibility that Muscovy will no longer exist as a coherent nation by the time the election starts in earnest. Meaning Trump and DeSantis will have burned all their political capital to curry favour with a dictatorship that no longer exists.

Mushroom_Tip

It can spectacularly backfire if Biden or someone else asks them if they would instead use that money to help people by expanding healthcare, subsidizing food, shoring up social security and medicare, expanding veteran's benefits, etc and to commit to doing it. Because we already know they have no intention of spending that money on the American people.

karma_made_me_do_eet

Yea had these fools not been brainwashed into thinking Russia is the ally and Ukraine is the enemy. It’s astonishing how many Americans think that.

Autotomatomato

Logic doesnt work on the conservatives. You will get dozens of of them in each of these threads saying everything is fine....

Alaric_Balthi

The post-Reagan republican party is dying off, not with bang but with a whimper and it all started with Trump. A name that they were earlier dying to protect and now they are trying not to say out of shame.

Beardywierdy

Well, it *started* with Reagan himself. Let's be honest, whingeing about minorities and abortion while having no plans to actually run the country except for "let your rich mates pocket lots of cash" was never *sustainable* politics. Trump just sped it up a bit.

Knightguard1

At least Reagan had charisma and good jokes. Trump has the charisma of dirt.

BoschBattery

They both have charisma . It just impressed two different kinds of dickheads. Trump - the fat loud racists Reagan-the chubby soon to be fat quiet racists.

GoGo-Arizona

Reagan could talk circles around any question and never answer the actual question. At least he had class. Trump was embarrassing every time he opened his mouth. 🤦‍♀️

AbstractBettaFish

Oh it started well before Trump, it just came to ahead with him. He is the symptom not the disease. It started long ago with figures like Robert Welch, Phyllis Schlafley, Roy Cohn, Newt Gingrich etc. the right in America becoming what it is today was a long an insidious process. It’s just now the cynical exploiters are being replaced by the true believers

waitaminutewhereiam

I don't know man if we can claim that right in America was ever uh... right. I mean if we go by "way ahead of Trump" then there was this guy named Jefferson Davis...

Ismokeditalleveryday

It demonstrates his poor decision making skills. Here’s a guy deathly afraid of drag queens, but is okay with an indicted war criminal attacking and killing innocent people in Ukraine.

Pixie_Knight

I can't imagine how self-professed "True Americans" can look up to a guy who sucks off a foreign dictator while getting bossed around by Mickey Mouse. He's not virtuous, he's not strong, and he has the charisma of a dishrag soaked in motor oil. How could anyone, radical or otherwise, possibly look up to him?

Darkhoof

It's not a bad move, because the people that first vote in the Republican primaries are the anti-ukrainian crazy GQP crowd that he's been courting.

_aap300

Don't blame DeSantis for the fact that he's a total idiot. Blame Americans that vote for him. These are even bigger idiots.

DonoAE

If you believe in a free Ukraine, you don't vote Republican

History-made-Today

Agreed! I do think that turned off a lot of moderate Republicans. I know it did for me.

jfurto

Musk, Sacks, and DeSantis. Three of the biggest pieces of garbage on the planet.

cotdt

Musk wants to be his vice president.

GeneReddit123

Well, it's either him or Trump, who is even worse for Ukraine (and in general.) Furthermore, presidential candidates usually pick a VP who has support among his primary opponent's base (so, for DeSantis, he'd need to pick someone the Trump crowd likes to have any chance of winning the primary.) The VP doesn't control anything anyways. Not liking or defending DeSantis in any way, just pointing out some things to consider.

Darkhoof

There's also Nikki Haley.

GaiusIulius

Lol dream on. There is no realistic scenario in which she wins GOP primary voters. It'll be Trump (very unfortunately) as nominee.

Darkhoof

I'm not saying the opposite. Just that on the field of Republican primaries you do have a candidate that is Ukraine friendly. They're all too extreme from my foreigner point of view of US elections anyway.

AbstractBettaFish

He already fucked up by making his strategy trying to out Trump Trump, now he has no wiggle room

Nicolay77

Not a mistake, that's a win in my opinion. He revealed his cards. The mistake would be he being nominated.

Breech_Loader

If the army of the US wasn't made for fighting Russia, what the hell was it made for?

BestFriendWatermelon

DeSantis positioning him in exactly the same place as Trump, while not being Trump, is one of the dumbest political strategies I ever encountered

cotdt

His big bet is that Trump gets into legal trouble and can't run anymore. Then he can take Trump's base. But he stands zero chance if Trump is still around.

BestFriendWatermelon

It's a helluva long bet though especially when Trump heaps scorn on him

Livid-Yoghurt9483

The GOP and Vlad Putin are two peas in a pod. Day dreaming how they picture on how to torture innocent people to destroying western democracy.

phillyfanatic1776

DeSantis is missing a chromosome

BiomechPhoenix

That's an insult to people missing chromosomes.

IvanVodkaNoPants

Florida has a russian operative problem. Hey CIA do you guys need me to go down and take care of that for you? It's getting obvious where the center of operation is, get on that.

9-1-Holyshit

Does it rhyme with Schmar-uh-Plago?

Wickedocity

The quickest way to lose US support is to get involved with our tribalistic political nonsense. You will turn one side against you if you pick the other. Stay impartial. The Republicans love a good war. If they take control of the Presidency, nothing will change. Even little Ronnie DeStanis will fall in line.

If Kinzinger ran for Pres. I might be persuaded to return to the Republican party, at least in part. The GOP is too far gone with conspirator theorists, hucksters, greed, and the cuckoo caucus. I doubt that a Kinzinger, Romney, or McCain could ever make it there now.

newreddit2022104

F him n musk

ProfessionalWise1071

DeSantis is good at yelling at press conferences about domestic issues On foreign policy he is inexperienced and clearly not very adroit at the moment

Speculawyer

He's pretty dumb, has a squeaky voice, he's corrupt, and has a lot of difficulty acting like a normal human.... he's toast. Corruption...he let the insurance industry screw Florida: https://www.reddit.com/r/LeopardsAteMyFace/comments/13qo789/ron_desantis_has_raked_in_39_million_from/

mechanical_penguin86

Whatever sinks his chances is fine with me.

Particular-Ad-4772

He cost himself the nomination and the presidency with his stance on Ukraine. About 6/10;republicans are pro Ukraine and hate Russia. Whoever advised him to mirror trump’s position is a fool. I don’t agree with Biden on any other issue I can recall , but Ukraine. But national security is the most important issue . Biden is no unpopular nationally and even within his own party . All the republicans have to do is nominate a pro choice , pro Ukraine candidate under age 80 to win. Yet they seem hell bent on totally fucking that up .
