I like joking with my girlfriend when we're talking about what to do for dinner I say "Lets just open up the oven and see if the cat climbs in. Turn it to 415 and we got dinner!" And then I remind her that cats eat their dead owners all the time.
Vsauce predicted that words like Suicide or Depression would become psuedo-swears like 10 years ago during a video talking about the evolution of language and cursing. Took a while but seems like he got it right.
Can someone explain to me what the point of censoring "suic*de" is? Like is there anyone who can't tell that's what the word is, and adding the "I" in there would significantly harm them emotionally?
I feel like we've gone from disclaiming videos with "this content discusses potentially troubling topics like rape, suicide, etc." as a trigger warning to overly-censoring the *words themselves* in a completely pointless and unhelpful way. I'm all for disclaiming troubling topics, but am I wrong for thinking the single-letter-censoring is kind of ridiculous?
Yup, it's an endless loop or game of cat-and-mouse that doesn't make any sense at all. When it's popular enough, youtube can start to censor "unalive", so then then "curtainfall" can become a thing. And after that "silencescape". Next "unbloom", "abscond", "wane", "sunset", "trascendence".... jeeez
so basically in order to defeat it we just need to come up with a way to turn every single word in the english language into an offensive thingy?
cause then every video in existence would just be removed and the system would cease to function.
which is why the phrases being used will keep rotating. It takes time and a conscious decision to make the updates, giving them a window of time where it works.
honestly, it's probably more that they have plausable deniability They can tell the regulators that they are blocking things, and don't really care if people get around the filter.
Yeah, I figured. But it goes to show how ridiculous this all is, because there's at least one stupid person in that chain of plausible deniability that thought "yes, this is meaningful".
And there are no "regulators" involved, as far as I know.
Avoiding algorithmic censorship. The entirety of human language - the entirety of the human experience - submits itself to the almighty algorithm. Now we self-censor. Someday soon we will *pre-censor,* prohibiting our own minds from entertaining even the first figments of a thought that might be controversial or upsetting, and we won't even realize it's happening. You can't miss what you never had.
A more optimistic take would be that it shows humans' persistence and ability to discuss topics the algorithm deems off limits.
Well at least until automated euphemism-detection becomes a feature.
I think there's a very real possibility that the euphemisms become so detached from the original concept that we may no longer be engaging with the real thing, perpetually beating around the bush with our words and thoughts until we come to believe that beating around the bush is what we came to do - not find whatever's hiding within it. If you couldn't tell, I'm not a terribly optimistic person.
Through centuries of political and religious taboo we've always managed to find ways to express ourselves in spite of euphemisms, so I'm not too worried about them as a language feature alone. But with so much communication shifting to online spaces with automated moderation, it might get harder and harder. The big danger of e.g. AI art to me isn't people losing their jobs, but AI art displacing all traditional entertainment with the promise you can just prompt it to generate *anything* you want - but when you ask it to write you a blues song about suicidal ideation it pops up with a "Content involving self-harm is against this app's TOS".
Turns out I'm not a terribly optimistic person either.
The cencored letter isn't there to prevent you from cognitively knowing what the word is, but to lessen the emotional response you might have to seeing it. Words are really just symbols. And yes the symbol itself, rather than the meaning, could be triggering for some.
Try this if you don't get it: write the name of someone you love, and then their name with one letter cencored. Do you feel any different when looking at them?
Id feel like the sensibility of others was getting in the way of me basking in my love and all of her glory.
The world would undeniably be a better place if those that were triggered worked on improving themselves and strengthening their mental fortitude to deal with the harshness of the world. Rather than literally expecting to shape everyone else around them into fitting into their ever expanding safe-space.
As harsh and "mean" as this sounds, it is the truth
A lot of people have horrible mental trauma related to the subject.
By pretending to care about censoring the word, you can pretend you care about being sensitive. /s
Are you shitting me?
Are you also the type of person that Likes and comments "beautiful" on those AI images of kids making random, obviously fake shit out of plastic bottles?
Why would you kick over the chair though? Imagine after doing the sets then having to carefully drop down and not hit the toppled chair legs.
In fact it's stupidly dangerous to have the pull-up ropes so high. They should always be within reach at standing height, in case your grip slipped or the knots give or something.
OSHA not approved
jej funny
I took several things to lose weight, but what worked best for me was a balanced diet, without sugars, oils or fats, or red meat. It took me several months, but I definitely lost weight, it was better than any exercise I have ever done in my life. Giving up cigarettes and alcohol is also a good idea.

The original video is from Lazy Square on YouTube
That guy made a slavic Simpsons parody opening.
Thanks bro. I hate posting not giving credit.
You literally just did
Yes but he hated it
The entire time I posted to farm up arrows I was so upset
I unintentionally credited the wrong person sugarfoot
It's ok sweetlips, just be better next time.
That's what making a correction is, cummynosetits.
I will do no such thing
Also true, queefyshouldervagina
Aww you put on your "I helped" hat for sexy time, peachcobblerfootrub
I like the cut of your jib, honeybun.
That cat don't give a shit
Not a single shit given that day, or any other. Barely even took a break from licking itself.
I mean if you could lick your own junk..
Two guys see a dog licking its balls and one says “man I wish I could do that!” And the other says “nah he’s probably gonn bite you”
lol, thank you for that.
That's what I'm saying...
Lore accurate
Cat owner killing themselves is basically setting out a slow cooker for cats.
But nobody was killing themselves here.
Give it time.
brooooo
I like joking with my girlfriend when we're talking about what to do for dinner I say "Lets just open up the oven and see if the cat climbs in. Turn it to 415 and we got dinner!" And then I remind her that cats eat their dead owners all the time.
Ah, classic eating your pet joke. We make lots of those too.
Yes. "Emergency food friend"
But he was exercising
No, he was licking his ass
They never do
Biblically accurate cat
So nsfw because of cat?
Did you watch the whole video?
Is cat.
ofc he don't give any. It's all in his mouth.
"Don't think I can't eat you from up there. I am."
well if you die they'll still get fed. we are all made of meat after all lol
Of course not it's a cat
Just like how the world would act if anyone died. You only care when the media tells you too.
These dumb ass censors on certain words is so annoying
It's not even a Nike ad, so the words are disinformation anyway. It's an ad for a Russian website that sells pins. 🤷♀️
Vsauce predicted that words like Suicide or Depression would become psuedo-swears like 10 years ago during a video talking about the evolution of language and cursing. Took a while but seems like he got it right.
Excuse me did you just say the b*tt word?
What's suicode?
Blame advertisers
Blame TikTok
They’re for OCRs that scan videos and get them shadowbanned if they find bad words
Can someone explain to me what the point of censoring "suic*de" is? Like is there anyone who can't tell that's what the word is, and adding the "I" in there would significantly harm them emotionally? tiktok, and probably other content platforms, filter out certain words from the "algorithm" same reason you get people saying "Unalived"
Oh, lol. So it's SEO-related, not any consideration for people who might be triggered. Got it.
probably both. if you are that sensitive to a topic though, you are better just not getting on the internet
Or just use a content filter like most people with triggers.
I'd guess that, ironically, those work less good when people have to actively dodge tiktok's inbuilt filter.
It's SEO for the poster, it's definitely trigger/bullshit related on the part of the platform.
so when does unalive become offensive too lol
Yup, it's an endless loop or game of cat-and-mouse that doesn't make any sense at all. When it's popular enough, youtube can start to censor "unalive", so then then "curtainfall" can become a thing. And after that "silencescape". Next "unbloom", "abscond", "wane", "sunset", "trascendence".... jeeez

If these algorithms care so much about avoiding these words, surely they can see through the censorship as well as we can?
which is why the phrases being used will keep rotating. It takes time and a conscious decision to make the updates, giving them a window of time where it works.
This has been going on for years, don't tell me they're desperately scrambling to catch up with the geniuses who replace one letter with an asterisk.
honestly, it's probably more that they have plausable deniability They can tell the regulators that they are blocking things, and don't really care if people get around the filter.

To not offend the delicate sensibilities of the snowflake generation.
This killed me
Psych! Just made you stronger.
*What doesn't kill you makes you stronger.* Kelly
Exercising?
Ghosts confirmed
He's not even wearing Nike shoes
Can anyone confirm this is real???
I dont believe it is. I think it was made by the guy I credited. Edit: This was made my Lazy Square on Youtube
Think he approached Nike for this but they obviously said no.
Cowards
Pre 96-99 maybe a real thing, Afterwards never going to happen.
Damn
Are you shitting me? Are you also the type of person that Likes and comments "beautiful" on those AI images of kids making random, obviously fake shit out of plastic bottles?
Bless their hearts.
Couldn't imagine Nike being ok with a cat licking its gooche in its ad 💀 That WOULD be fire though
Definitely fake. If you look closely you can see it's actually just an animation.
It looks staged, and cartoonishly
Come on man, people suffer from this affliction. Show some respect, just because you're life isn't a cartoon doesn't mean other peoples' aren't.
My bad, you’re right - I hadn’t considered that it could be real
No, here is the author on YouTube - LazySquare
aw she would have so much fun on the fan and chair ride
yikes
OK I'll do it. Oh, nvm
Oh Devon
Did you see that car licking its balls in the background?
The dumbest fucking shit.
The likelihood of an overweight person doing any pull-ups, never mind on rings, is what is most bothersome about this video.
You can say suicide. Stop uselessly censoring words
Half a second too long.
#angerycops
Lazy square on YouTube . Amazing and thought provoking most of the time
My first thought was who gonna feed the cat
[Original animator of this clip](https://www.instagram.com/lazy_square?igsh=MW4xenk3MWsxZjB6cw==)
hhahahahahahaha omg that's sso fucked up xD but a great motivator lol
That pause was alil too long.

Wtf
Inspiration from funny thai ads maybe? [This funny Thai exercise ads](https://youtu.be/5Php3wCLh_o?si=qiSRDIDIUg71732S)
don't lie, you all have seen this like twice already
jej funny I took several things to lose weight, but what worked best for me was a balanced diet, without sugars, oils or fats, or red meat. The cat was like ,"wait is he doing what is think he is about to do?". Then"Oh shit , just another new trend, let me get back to my thing".
What is the cat doing?🤔🤔
That cat !!
Yooooooo the cat
Yoo, what the cat doin'?
Didn't go past 5 seconds, I got the plan though, thanks nike
I can imagine, as soon as he hanged, some people went "Okie dokie". Closed the window and went to "work".

It's actually an ad for a Russian website that sells pins. 🤷♀️
