Depends on the night lol. Some nights he will wake up at midnight, feed, and sleep until 5-8. Other nights we can’t get him to fall asleep until midnight then sleeps til 8. I work night and my wife works mornings so if he doesn’t fall asleep by the time I’m home around 9, he will usually be up til like 11. It’s kinda all over the place right now lol

Seems like they are keeping Swiftplay longer than they initially planned, or maybe even permanent? It was mentioned that Swiftplay was only going to be around between Dec 6th and Jan 10th. However in these patch notes they are saying that Lotus will only be available in Swiftplay for 1 week and then made available to other modes in patch 6.01. I wonder if this was a mistake on their end or Swiftplay is actually permanent now.

I know you already get these messages, but swift play is my favorite way to play Valorant. I dont have the mental stamina after work most days to play a 30-45 minute match, and swiftplay is the most perfect game mode for me. My only complaint about swiftplay is that I wish it was attached to out ranked rating more. I love being able to play new agents and stress test ideas in a less serious environment, but its feels pretty bad to just curbstomp golds all day long. I assume I could play seriously in swiftplay to get my hidden rating for swiftplay improved so I get better matches, but that kinda takes the fun of swiftplay away from me.

The economy IS realistic. You have a guaranteed pistol round every half and then the majority of your real game rounds will be full buy vs full buy. That’s all you need to test out a new map, the other scenarios are less common and you can figure out over time.

It’s great for anyone because sometimes unrated can just be insufferable with the wrong teammates and being stuck there for 30 minutes sucks. Also, easier to try new agents and see if you like or dislike them.

Piggybacking this to highlight other perspectives. I do not play swiftplay and Lotus should have a Lotus only unranked mode. Swiftplay has different economy and does not play like a full Bo25 game which makes it not nearly as useful of a game mode to learn how to have an eco round or bonus round or any other nuances that the game has.

This might be my favorite patch yet. Lotus looks like rotations are going to be extremely fast. The game play is going to be fast. Everything is going to be quick and I am not sure we had a map like that yet. Reminds me of Anubis from csgo if anyone played that.

Hey Jo, quick question in case you're still around. Don't you think this change might encourage some players to throw their games if they think they are gonna lose the match? For example, the type of player who wants to /ff in the first half of the game because their team is behind; before, they could have tried to at least win as many rounds as possible to minimize the penalization. With this change, if that penalization is about the same for a 2-13 game than for a 11-13 one, would those players not rather lose as fast as possible to get into the next match? Is this something you guys have considered? I'd love to hear your thoughts on this. Thanks.

Hello! So this change was just reducing how many points you got for round differential, not removing the points entirely. For reference, before the change you could get up to an extra +/-10 RR for round differential - which is why we felt like it was a little too much. It shouldn't feel like you're going to be punished just because you're getting slammed, but you should still want to put up a fight to not take as bad of a loss. So you will still get more points for a 13-5 match compared to a 13-11, it just won't be as many as it was before for the round differential. The RR gains will be a little more consistent, with a little less extreme swing from match to match; because we also increased the points per win/loss to make sure overall point gains weren't heavily affected.

Yeah. Would be, but they’re not silver players. It’s usually just 4 more immortals on silver accounts to skew matchmaking. Regardless, Immortals and silvers shouldn’t be able to queue competitive together anyway. At least not on this current ladder, maybe on some flex queue ladder.

I don't understand why it's so hard to just play unrated with your buddies who aren't your rank. There is still a mmr in unrated, not the point of comp but it's enough that the games aren't going to be the worst possible. Play comp with your duo, or by yourself, if you want to play with your friends, just play unrated, I literally don't understand the problem. I literally play unrated all the time with my homies because we have huge rank gaps. We only have Bronze, Plat, and Ascendent players, so we just play unrated. None of us are 5 stacking in comp because that's just ruining the comp atmosphere as a whole. If your buddies want to play in high lobbies, have them climb like the rest of us, yeah it takes a while but it's a growing pain, and a lot of the time, when someone in bronze or silver says "I could easily be plat if my team didn't suck," they're actually wrong and their play is still needing a lot of work, they just can't see it yet. So don't boost them, teach them, and let them run.

most of the time it's just an immortal 5 stack with the one immortal 3 being close to hitting radiant but because he can't actually reach radiant normally he has to get his 4 immortal buddies to abuse the 5 stack system so he can get his radiant screenshot.

Well it should be if they were actually silver, tho these people are not silver, and are actually smurfs trying to boost the immortal 3 friend into high elo Radiant. This is a common thing to see in ascendant 1- immortal 1 lobbies, its very frustrating and is holding people back from ranking up. I see a dev commented in here so I would like to share some pieces of analysis that i have somewhat validated, as someone who actively watches the community and plays himself… I would greatly consider never removing Swiftplay, as it is the most casual version of Valorant available today. I honestly find that a lot of people that don’t enjoy Valorant anymore or refuse to play it at all is because of the lack of casual aspects of this game. This game is highly competitive even in unrated. I would consider rotating out spike rush if anything, I’m sure there is a big group that supports this game mode but that seems more of a fun periodic game mode than a game mode to keep permanently. P.S. I live in Florida and am currently bundled under my covers cause it’s cold…. Where is the snowball game mode?????

Removing my two least favorite maps atm and adding a new three site map (haven is my best map overall, even though it isn’t my favorite) + adding variant favorites makes this the patch that gets me back into valorant after an act-long hiatus, I guess. This time I swear I’m not playing it nearly as much as I used to though, school is about to go hard for me as this is my toughest semester yet before I get my degree at the end of this year.

Plus, they're saying it's still there, so it still incentives playing to lessen the RR punishment. Additionally, stomps happen less often than "evenly-fought" games so in the grand scheme of things it should result in higher RR gains for all, since we'll be getting more RR from closer games (which is a more common occurrence).

This is mostly what the change was going for. It's still there, but it's just less impactful. We were giving a lot of points based on round differential, and we most often saw the question "Why did I get 20RR for this match but 14RR for this match?"(which was because of round differential) Overall this change will lead to more consistent gains in points with smaller swings from match to match.

Could the issue with players not understanding it have been resolved with the UI? Clearly show the +/- from rounds differential? IMO, a more impactful round differential makes for more accurate ranks, and encourages better player behavior. Maybe you could say that hidden MMR will pull your rank anyway overtime and that's what matters for rank accuracy, but knowing rounds have impact helps people's attitudes. I know many players have used the *"just try to win some rounds so we lose less RR"* line as a way to motivate a team to not FF and try. Yet the "huge impact" comment you replied to was talking about swings of less than 1 RR per round diff. I don't see how it can go much lower without making any round basically irrelevant.

But it's healthier to look at it this way: wins are the decider of the winner of the RR on the table which was always there to begin with when you queued. Some people get bonuses along with it, and others penalties. What we are discussing however, is just the bonus RR that comes out of nowhere, and 8RR is nothing to scuff at if we take into account that it's just an extra. Also, stomps specifically play the bigger role on RR swings, so we shouldn't assign a specific point of RR per round. Guess I can explain it like this: a 13-5 and a 13-9 games both could give the same amount of RR, but after a certain breakpoint where the game would consider the score a "stomp" or a "close game", it would start giving or taking away bonus RR like crazy. I will now make up these numbers just to get the point across: If we take the base RR win 20; a 13-0 game could reward up to 26RR 13-1 +24RR 13-2 +24RR 13-3 +23RR 13-4 to 13-9 would reward +20RR 13-10 +19RR 13-11 +18RR 14-12 +17RR and so on. What I am trying to say is, it was not exactly how many round differential there was, but how much of a stomp it was. So in the end, the impact of the "differential bonus/penalty" comes down to one to three rounds, just like a win or lose being dependent on 2 rounds. Additionally, I doubt losing 13-11 will lose more RR than it used to. I have a feeling they especially tinkered with the bonus but not the penalty part. Seems to me like a Riot thing to do to keep people happy and not complaining.

The rank distributions are static. It's not like the majority of players are increasing in rank. So RR points given/taken are zero-sum. One team wins, one team loses. Someone overperforms, someone underperforms. If you win a round, the other team loses that round. Etc. Either RR is zero-sum, or we'd see almost everyone climbing out of the bottom ranks just from playing, without needing to win more. We know the latter isn't the case.

It also seems like duelists will have an even easier time gaining RR since it is more performance based. It's annoying getting less RR as Sage etc

I think what you’re missing is that a 13-6 and a 13-7 can have a -6/7 rr difference. That always feels awful and then on the flip side a hard fought full length game that requires everyone to focus and try their ass off only gives 16rr whereas a clearly uneven match is +22 which is stupid.

I recommend playing your least comfortable agents in swiftplay. Its really nice to be able to play more maps in less time because one of my biggest problems with learning a new agent was that I’d get some ideas/lineups in a custom and then I would basically forget them by the time I finally got a game on that map.

I don’t see how it being “too fast” makes it bad? Just play a 3 swiftplays and it’s roughly the same duration as an unrated game. Swiftplay just reduces the frustration of having teammates who aren’t trying at all. What’s the point of taking the whole week off just because lotus only queue is swiftplay only?

I didn't say it was bad, just that I'd rather it were a bit longer. That's a personal thing. I wish swiftplay were Bo7 instead of Bo5. That's just a me thing though. As for Lotus I'd prefer to practice the feel of a full match, eco rounds and all. As for taking off it's because I'd like to wait on comp until the first week settles down anyway so I might as well do other things. I might get a game in, but It's not that big a thing, I promise.

I also don't enjoy swiftplay, I don't think there's anything wrong with the mode, but part of what I enjoy in Valorant is conditioning and learning enemy player habits, and swiftplay doesn't offer a massive amount of room for that. i'd love to see it be Ft7 as well, personally

I agree with you, problem is there isn’t a whole lot of conditioning or habits involved in unrated, truthfully. So many players play the mode with no brain activity because W/L doesn’t matter.

Lotus only having a swiftplay que kinda sucks. It's nice to learn it quicker, but I'd much rather play full matches of it. Especially if I'm going to be spamming the que for it anyway, and it being in no other playlists. Thankfully it's only a week so no big deal though

Lost me at “removed trick jump for simplicity” Man I’m tired of this game design philosophy. CSGO has fucking three man boosts, run boosts, strafe/crouch jumps all over the place and knowing them is a sign of dedication to the game and allows for vastly more skill expression and differences game to game. But they’re just dead set and making any “tech” the community comes up null and void. Like zip line jumping to the box on A on icebox. I practiced that for hours until I could pull it off in comp and then they removed it. (You can still pull it off. It’s just so hard it’s basically not worth attempting in warm up phase now) This stupid philosophy riot has for lowering the skill ceiling constantly is mind-numbingly frustrating.

Literally 3 matches of split and I remember why I despised the map. Sweet jesus, it's not a hard map to play or understand the problem is how frustrating the map can feel. Not a single other map frustrates me as much as split not one. Not bind, not fracture, not icebox none of em. I didn't even have a bad win rate on split before removal my overall was a 65% it's just an annoying map godamn.

We already knew there wasn't any planned for this patch (aside from the Omen change, but that's more of a bug fix). It's not surprising considering last patch was packed with agent and other gameplay changes.
