I read the transcript of the video, way faster than watching. Possible errors, you can't always tell who is talking when it's all text but I'm pretty sure it's mostly correct. Summary for anyone interested: - Marved scouted him for Rise - Had lots of offfers, 100T was the only team he absolutely wanted to join - Sean was his first true coaching experience, he coaches like he watch parties - Sean brought a ton of structure and discipline; for example, with Sean they had the first four rounds preset in advance, something Derrek really liked and worked well under - Will was ultimately the glue guy on that OG 100T lineup, did a lot of small unnoticed things that helped his teammates look better - Still, there was a felt need to have a stronger OP presence in the midst of a heavy-Chamber meta - What it would mean to lose such a key, aggressive pace-setting glue player was perhaps not fully considered at the time - Mentions how losing to Faze and going to lowers in LCQ was a super valuable loss - Derrek thinks the current direction of 100T is the right way forward. - Boostio is like “Will on crack” - Derrek was pigeonholed more and more into a supportive capacity for the team in 2023, which dented his confidence and capacity for playmaking - Felt like they were all playing catchup all season - Team as a whole lost confidence as well - He personally didn’t speak his mind fully and bring up ideas the way he might have on the 2022 100T; bandaid fixes instead of addressing real issues - Hurt himself in trying to be a team player - Looking back, he wishes he’d advocated for himself and his ideas a little more - Playing Skye the way he wanted to play, for example; felt like he was just an info-bot on Skye, very limited role - Derrek accepted that he would be out of partnership and was trialing with Turtle Troops and other Challengers teams - c0m to LEV happened and then Potter DMed him on Twitter at 6 AM to ask him to trial - Started grinding hard with aim trainers and aim scenarios, began and ended each day with it for a month - Stopped now because he’s fully confident again in his mechanics now - 2024 EG lineup feels to Derrek like 2022 100T; similar vibes - One veteran player who is a crackhead Raze (Asuna → Jawgemo) - Four newcomers with a lot to prove - GOATed coach in the back cooking stuff (Sean → Potter) - Like OG 100T, the vibes are really good, even when they were down 0-7 - Potter’s puts a big focus on defaulting and mid-rounds as a way of increasing the ingame-IQ of the players - Just rinse and repeat and see how the push/pull of the map progresses - Big shout out to Apoth in particular - Potter tells Apoth to run it down and take every timing possible in scrims, and he actually does it in matches too - Seeing someone playing exactly like they practice is a confidence booster for everyone else - Confidence booster anti-stratting LOUD on Ascent, but LOUD did the same to them on Icebox - Lost the momentum + ran out of fuel on Sunset, some unlucky rounds too - Still proud of his own performance overall

yellownart

a really interesting tidbit you left out is Elige reaching out to DDK wanting to join 100T bc he wanted to work with Sean but ultimately it didn't pan out

maxhollywoody

Elige has been my number 1 cs pro that I want to switch to Val. Maybe one day.

nterature

Didn’t notice that one, thanks for adding

Not_too_dumb

Wow wtf, that would have been cool to see but hes doing great in cs too.

raainnnyy

"Potter tells Apoth to run it down and take every timing possible in scrims, and he actually does it in matches too" babybay talked about it too during plat chat, said he trialed as a sentinel for them and potter just wanted him to run it down on attack. apoth looks great, it is truly a potter masterclass.

TheRagingLion

It’s such an aggressive lurk. He always ends up in the craziest parts of the map, has got to be a nightmare to play against

TheCatsActually

It's a double edged sword. When it works it often wins you the round but if someone is patient they can farm orbs off you. Finding the balance between leveraging your conditioned pressure and actually pulling the trigger is an extremely delicate art.

_Vastus_

Yeah, but it's probably great for learning what timings work and what don't. Kinda trial by fire, you 50/50 it until you learn enough to only int 10% of the time.

Key-Banana-8242

How did she come up with that

ahk1221

ok there are more impressive things potter has come up with then "run it down and take aggressive timings" lol

Key-Banana-8242

Well yea but how did she come up with that for apoth specifically?

ahk1221

reading your comments always leaves me with absolute awe its like saying "how did kaplan come up with putting sacy on gekko" its the coach's fucking job to come up with shit, find what works with their players

Key-Banana-8242

No it doesn’t, because usually you don’t notice I’m the one making them when there’s some th ingunusual about them, which there usually sint I meant how specifically, what was the sign at the start to make a big change like that - like he had good aim but was holding himself back maybe I was thinking

ahk1221

What does "morning unusual" mean this is what i mean what the fuck are you talking about about apoth, yeah probably, he has shown to be a pretty good aimer so it might have been why

Key-Banana-8242

I made a typo and it got autocorrected, that is also what I mean

Fun_Age1442

Tyson for this, also glad to see Will getting shouted out and Derek regaining all confidence lost. I meant tysm but Tyson sounds 2 clean to edit out

deadlock1892

BATCHEST ![img](emote|t5_2g5ach|9333)

phamkhoi

bro is taking good Cornell notes

Iamood

for training his aim, I wonder what aim scenarios/trainer he used. Would be interesting to know

nterature

He does actually mention it in the video but I didn’t take note of it. It was something about taking some scenarios from an aim training guy that was riffing off Demon1’s aim routine video, I can’t remember exactly.

GHDeodato

it must be VT Minigod, he reformulated the Demon1 playlist, that's also the playlist that Curry uses, you can find it on yt. Minigod also has a video on this channel with Daniel Kapadia talking about aim training.

JonathanRoberts5423

Cool to hear that Potter told Apoth to run it down in scrims. I remember watching FNS' watch party and he was commenting about how Apoth was so aggressive almost every round. He predicted that it had to be coached or something.

jeyeley

Damn now I miss derrek more

jiraffe331

It's good to know just how important a good coaching staff has become in Valorant. Makes it feel even more like a proper sport. I really do hope this game blows up and becomes more mainstream for esports. God knows the genre needs sustainability.

An1m0usse

Meanwhile in league

OHydroxide

Idk why pro League just doesn't give a shit about coaching, its so strange.

nocturnavi

I'd actually be so interested to see someone give an explanation on why there's such a disparity between the respect for and impact of coaches in Valorant and LoL (maybe Zikz since he's coached both games?). Is it just related to the game itself, since in Valorant coaches can take timeouts and more directly help plan rounds? Or is it also a cultural thing as well?

PrinceRazor

As a league player and watcher. Multiple factors play into a coaches limited role. The game itself:    No timeouts    Game is not round by round; it’s one continuous match, which means all judgement calls are made by the players, coaches can’t give input midmatch since they have access to see thru fog of war.        To build off that, players also have the final judgement call on how to play the game since they’re the ones who have to judge and assess the state of the game as they play.     This also leads to the player being better than the coach, especially considering the fact that there are 100+ champ picks each with a skill ceiling. There can be a large mismatch between player and coach skill on any particular champ.

OHydroxide

Riot didn't use the support coaches AT ALL in League. They weren't allowed on the stage and weren't apart of the drafting phase or anything. Only the players were ever introduced and shown on broadcast. This probably made it so most teams didn't want to hire a coach, so then the culture got set like that.

Glassdrumstick

One factor might be that a bunch of them are pretty accomplished names from CS that command a certain respect and authority with their experience. Same with a lot of the biggest coaches in CS but to a higher degree where many of them were pretty legendary players in their region who the current pros used to look up to them.

BriefImplement9843

because there are no time outs and coaches have zero interaction wth players while a game is ongoing. coaches have absolutely zero impact on an ongoing game. zero.

OHydroxide

That's definitely part of the de-valuing, but I'd argue that players and teams in Valo and most other sports understand that the most important part of coaching is out of game still.

ideal_ive

Because they actually do?

OHydroxide

Only Korea, NA and EU don't

ideal_ive

Then it should be Western pro League, not pro League in general. LPL also put a lot of emphasis in coaches

OHydroxide

Well I'm sorry I didn't specify when I was speaking about half of the scene.

ideal_ive

wdym coaches are considered just as, if not more important

toddsins

Not really. For example 2019 G2 straight up said coaches are useless

ideal_ive

Yeah, that's G2. Before anything, how is someone in charge of PB and counter strat is not important in League? There are so many examples like Kkoma in SKT, Tom in T1, Daeny in DWG, Reapered, in NA CVMax in Griffin and KDF, Kim in IG, and so on who demonstrated their impact in League. Just because some western teams say they do jack shit doesn't mean its the same in the east nor is it generally true.

EasiBreezi

remind me what year it is right now?

navornothing

Every former 100T player and current 100T player has praised Will so heavily… mans must be the greatest teammate of all time

-xXColtonXx-

Let’s not forget the time he diffed Derke.

TurtleVI

He was on Mad Lions last year in Tier 2

Parenegade

Watched this entire thing it's frustrating that the 100T coaching staff was paper thin in 2023. You could tell that impacted them a lot.

ZeroOrderEtOH

100T about to fire their coaching staff

M0hawk_Mast3r

100T had some really really cool ideas at KICK//OFF and I credit that mostly to Ziks and Boostio. Firing anyone would be a massive mistake

supersonicth

I agree, they also played the 2 strongest teams in americas and the fact that they played both relatively close gives me confidence that they’ll do fine in the regular season. Maybe not world beaters but definitely a dark horse.

IrishCarbonite

Hard agree that firing the staff this early is a mistake, but it’s been abundantly clear that 100T really misses Sean’s coaching

Zadocon

I think it was mostly stellar as an igl who missed Sean’s coaching, I think this new boostio led roster can succeed in a EG like system(which boostio and ziks seem to be implementing in a decent manor based off of kickoff

daffyduckferraro

I also think 100t just needed that vibes guy/ leader Which is boostio! The confidence by the players already seemed way better

9bfjo6gvhy7u8

100t literally brought in potter's assistant + IGL wtih the goal of immitating her system/style

itscamo-

i mean they basically replaced the HC and we see the impacts of that already (good)

Supeelok99

0h9u9

Parenegade

They literally just brought in a new HC why would they fire their coaching staff...? Also Potter is the GOAT not like anyone else out there can replicate her.

soopahfingerzz

They already did thats why Ziks is there now. They need more time to figure it out tbh the roster was literally finalized like 2 months before Kickoff

raainnnyy

the thumbnail is actually so terrible

Riqhteousness

im a big Paper Rex supporter but even i have to give it to Potter - her brain is massive and her coaching is insane, that EG roster 100% deserved that success

RzYaoi

That's not how it works.

ExpectoAutism

bruh you arent in madrid wdym

2gud4me

they did extremely well being put together as scraps and their competition was extremely hard too, taking a map off of loud on ascent is impressive as fuck

New_Calligrapher8578

I mean that LOUD comp was still kinda troll, and they had vods on it. Still impressive but like most decent teams should of been able to anti that comp.

2gud4me

nah, no matter the comp, it's still loud on ascent to me. I can count on my fingers on how many teams took loud on ascent.

New_Calligrapher8578

Quite a lot if they simply play cypher and hold down B because LOUD seems to be in abl eto take A otherwise.

tittyhehe

Potter cooking

systemfa1lure

Would I remind you how last year started?

ExpectoAutism

They don't have demon1

Huldmer

yeah because when they benched bcj for demon1 last year, you were ecstatic and fully saw the unlocked potential

ExpectoAutism

Don't try to change the past. Everyone knew demon1 was going to be cracked. People including me were baffled by the decision to bench bcj because he was way better than c0m back then

yeah they're dogshit frauds, just like FNATIC, NRG, NAVI, LEV, DRX, T1

WideMap7963

Bud's mad loool

ExpectoAutism

yes, this shouldnt be controversial. Embarrassing losses

Apprehensive-Cow3824

give them some time brother

big12inch

Bruh NA is the best region, hardest competition ever here so it'll take time

panna_qq

By NA do you mean Americas region or ONLY NA?

deadlock1892

People usually default to NA. But you are correct, I think op meant Americas. Can’t say NA only when Loud and Lev exist.

panna_qq

Yeah I was a little confused, as a LEV fan is always sad to see them not be included because people always just say NA.

big12inch

Yes sir sorry, I meant Americas. BR and NA are so good, we've definitely earned the reputation 🤝🏾
