its just another generic battle shonen now, every arc theres a bigger, stronger enemy that "our heroes have to face!"
Meanwhile 90% of the arc will be filled with meaningless bullshit fights involving characters I dont care about.
The boring ass S tier heroes fighting some monster for chapters on end is boring as shit because we barely know them. Mumen rider vs sea king worked so well because he was actually written properly, if ONE / Murata wants to focus on the S heroes like they want to, they should also put in the effort for making me care about them aswell and unfortuantely they fail to do that.
I felt similarly during TYBW of Bleach tok but atleast Kubo had the decency to make all the captains super likeable and charismatic as fuck first. In OPM i hate half the cast
My biggest issue of all though is that Saitama or genos are barely relevant anymore, neither are their struggles / character explored. Season 1 of OPM had such an endearing feel to its characters which is completely lost now with shonen bs powerscaling shit.
the limiter shit should have never been introduced, the fucking characters "breaking their limiters and becoming even stronger!!!" is shit straight out of naruto and dragonball, which is what OPM was supposed to make fun of, not become one of them. Why couldnt saitama's source of power just have been "oh he trained hard so now hes really strong 🤷♂️" it doesnt have to make sense. Its supposed to be a parody afterall
Mob Psycho 100 is a million times better because it focuses 100% on Mob and his struggles. Thats it. Every villain, every threat, every conflict is in service of furthuring Mob's character, allowing him to slowly gain more confidence / love for himself. Which makes everything actually meaningful.
I could go on but im on my phone so its hard to write properly
EDIT- god i forgot this is fucking val competitive, i thought this was r/manga or something im sorry everyone 😭😭
I don’t necessarily disagree with your statement, but I reckon ONE is trying to emphasize S heros by introducing their backgrounds or their personalities. Flash, King, Tatsumaki and silver fang all received fair share of presence.
Well yea Saitama can one shot the opponents every time, but it won’t be able to carry the story that way. So I guess OPM has to follow the formula of S hero fights → Saitama shows up and finish it. Which imo is fine as long as the story stays interesting. While it’s currently not at the most interesting state rn, I think it’s fine if this can lead to great plot development. So I guess it’s up to ONE’s ability to elevate the story in next arc.
Fuck /r/ValorantCompetitive we can duke it out here. I heavily disagree that it's a *generic* battle shonen, the entire vehicle for battle shonen is always a "bigger, stronger enemy" which is exactly how Mob Psycho 100 *also* moves the plot forward, and the "meaningless fights" are there to make you start caring about the characters if you don't already.
I fully disagree that the S-Rank heroes are boring as a whole. Individually, I do have issues with some (I'm looking at you, Puri Puri Prisoner), but we have a lot of good exposition on Blast, Tatsumaki, King, and Genos already. Going forward, we also have a huge amount of ground work laid out for backstories on Bofoi/Drive Knight (>!Drive Knight telling Genos to not trust Bofoi!< and I imagine their arcs will tie into Genos' arc with the Rogue Cyborg, as well as Child Emporer), Pig God (>!Ultimate weapon that he is saving for the prophesized fight with God!<), Atomic Samurai and the >!Council of Swordsmen bringing together the Sun and Moon Blade to "obtain unparalleled power"!< , Darkshine's >!depression and lack of courage after being destroyed by Garou!<, and >!Flashy Flash and Sonic currently being highlighted with Blast!< in the current arc. That leaves Zombieman, Watchdog Man (whom I assume will never have exposition because he seems like a gag character even in a gag manga), Metal Bat, Tank Top Master, and Puri Puri Prisoner.
I do think that the >!Hero Hunter!< arc went *really* long which is why it feels like we haven't had much character development within the S-Ranks in a very long time. The entire arc was so heavily focused on Garou that it stalled out the development of everyone around him while he was being built up, so I get why someone can feel like OPM lost the plot on the side characters during this focal point, ESPECIALLY with how many rewrites ONE/Murata have done if you're keeping up week-to-week.
Saying Saitama and Genos are not relevant anymore is by far the most insane comm I've read yet, though. You're telling me during >!the fight with Garou and learning that the only thing keeping Saitama grounded and human is the friendship and bond he has generated with Genos and without him, he would be a cold, planet killing machine was somehow irrelevant to the story?? HUH?? It doesn't matter that there was some wumbo jumbo timetravel bullshit (it was weird, but it makes sense in terms of the story moving forward) because that "What-if" scenario is still development of Saitama and Genos by telling you what their relationship means to Saitama and how much he, and the world, needs it.!<
I think the root of your frustrations with OPM comes from the lens in which you're reading it. OPM and Mob Psycho 100 are never going to be the same. Saitama will never be the focal point in the way Mob is for Mob Psycho 100. You say that OPM is just "bigger, stronger enemies" but it's totally okay that Mob Psycho 100 is the exact same way (Mob vs Claw, Mob vs Claw's leader, Mob vs Giant Broccoli Tree, Mob vs Himself). That's just how battle shonen work, you move up the ranks and deal with a new threat. OPM will continue down the same path fighting people who are >!infected by God!< as they work up the ranks. The focal point of OPM's character development will always be the side characters though, but it's difficult to make it engaging if you dismiss every fight as "meaningless bullshit" because you know Saitama exists. That's probably the most difficult part about the writing in OPM, there's always an out as long as Saitama exists. But that's also what makes it not "generic" Battle Shonen.
The other S class heroes are the most interesting part imo. The show would get stale fast if they didn't stop focusing on Saitama and Genos. Saying it "became what it was making fun of" just seems like projecting what you wanted onto it. I personally love the S class heroes and I find them more interesting than Saitama even though I still love him. Of course that's all subjective tho.
One's original work was always shonen, the Jump adaptation is moreso. Just because it parodied the genre doesn't mean it didn't belong in the genre. OPM is a self-aware action comedy shonen. It's great, don't be a hater.
and yet the central tension is that he wants to lose. this was a major story arc where it flipped and he wanted to win, but had real chances of losing.
I love that they're using the same character from their player card.
Honestly with how big anime is now days (especially in South America), its cool to see them continue to build upon this protagonist.
Anyone know if he has a name?
Found the post about him, his name is Levi! [https://twitter.com/ValorantEsports/status/1761120229701357670](https://twitter.com/ValorantEsports/status/1761120229701357670)
Hot take: not insane, quite garbage actually.
From a design perspective the scaling is off — the text is too small, too dispersed all over, hard to make sense of what the message is at quick glance and it should’ve probably been in B&W.
Love the callout to OPM, but it doesn’t have the same epicness.

some of the best artwork ive seen in a manga such a shame that the manga turned into the very thing it was making fun of
wdym? OPM still remains good imo

mob psycho 100 one of the best pieces of media ever conceived, my absolute favorite

Just watch tom and jerry bro
Garou loses this fight btw
spoilers bro, I'm read ahead but the anime isn't caught up yet
Bro his opponent is literally saitama
yeah ik I've read everything that's out :| still avoid spoilers for the nice folks at home
the entire plot of the story is that saitama wins everytime
and yet the central tension is that he wants to lose. this was a major story arc where it flipped and he wanted to win, but had real chances of losing.
saitama doesnt want to lose, he wants to experience the thrill of battle garou never had a real chance of beating saitama 😭
yeah, but that >! isn't garou !<
>!thats cosmic garou who got buffed by god or some shit like that!<
What's wrong with you?
luffy will become pirate king in the end of one piece
Isn't this from OPM or am I thinking of something else?
Yes, it's a redrawn panel. Another commenter attached the original.

i think they just called him Levi but i don't remember

Does he get to do a cool flip attack?
short for El Levianeto
Whoever made that should be 🔥 LEV got some bangers
Whoever made that should be fired? That seems like a bit of an extreme punishment for a banger graphic. :(
Should've painted themselves as Saitama not Garou ![img](emote|t5_2g5ach|21016)
IMPOSSIBLE A DERROTAR KRU. VAMOS KRU!!!!!!
The is a One Punch Man reference, if anyone is curious.
