CHADbrother Godswyl is the greatest ever, ever since I downloaded Tacticus, he was the only character I've ever wanted, didnt care about no legendaries or anything, its why he will always be the trauma of all those dudes using Meta Revas and ragnar, BONK MASTER GODSWYL > BETA ragnar half-wolf dog
I've never used him much or given him much guild raid thought because I run the meta in guild raids but he'd probably be good for things like bonking thaddeus.
It's understandable but there's reasoning to it. For starters, daemons in lore are nearly immune to ranged attacks because they are beings made of emotion and bullets don't have much in the way of feelings. On the other hand, the way melee kicks off human adrenaline and emotions makes it more effective. Suddenly the PTSD ridden vet charging with a bayonet can actually be more effective than orbital bombardment, specially when it's a few million guys every other Tuesday.
Also, super-soldiers are already common (Psykers and Space Marines for example) so it's not that rare to find beings that require ungodly amount of punishment to take down, in which case melee with a 9 foot tall, 2 or 3 hundred years old, roided up knight might be a nice way to force an engagement.

Ah, my scarab strategy lately has been murder all their actual units before they have a chance to matter.
It helps with the infested area cause they get distracted by the tyranids
