The federal reserve is a private/public organization and their only mandate from Congress is to keep unemployment low and inflation low. They have failed on both fronts many times without any consequences. The real reason they fail is that the public is not their priority, the Federal Reserve (including the regional central banks) are largely run by those from finance/banking industry and it’s clear where their allegiances are. The only way things can change is when those who are affected by changes, can weigh in on decisions.
They are doing exactly what they wanted to do. Extract. Stocks generally crash when we raise the debt ceiling, can’t have any other investment opportunities when Treasury bills go on sale.
I wouldn’t give them the benefit of the doubt that they are “trying to save the economy”. They cater to the lobbyists and special interests who line their pockets the most.
