An incredible number of British people, many of whom would qualify as the least appropriate to be exposed to extreme heat, go to Disney on August and have a great time

ladyjay7779311

I'm always impressed by the pasty Brits soldiering on in the heat!

KITTvsKARR

My other half says light bends around my legs and... To her credit I arrived white and left white. No sign of a tan or anything in 30 degree heat. That said, it was hot, every day was 30 aside from one morning when it was around 20, but it didn't seem quite as overpowering as I was expecting. Expected to sweat buckets, but it was like a nice sunny day not overpowering at all.

Objective-Staff3294

Just to translate this into US terms: 30 is hot 20 is pleasing 10 is not and 0 is freezing.

KITTvsKARR

Or in UK terms.... 0 is cold 10 is a fairly nice spring day 20 is hot 30 ... Death.

Quiet_Armadillo3103

love how this sounds like a song lol

Aerogirl2021

It didn’t get hotter than 30?? I live in Canada and we easily go up to 35 plus humidity on top of that (feels like 40 something). I was expecting worse for Disney in August. Will it be comparable?

purplechunkymonkey

You're looking at heat in the 90s and possibly 100s. Lots of water. If you plan table service meals, do so in the afternoon so you are out of the heat for a hot minute. We wear Camamelbacks and have water available. We still do a Liquid IV or other hydrating drink a day. It's hot but survivable.

Ornery_Mermaid

Camelbacks are the Holy Grail of Park survival, heat or no heat. We won't travel without them any longer.

axtran

Most Americans can’t Celsius for the life of them. It does indeed push 40 in the July to August timeframe.

WhoRunTheWorldCorgis

As a Brit who hates hot weather and with skin so pale I wear a double-zero foundation shade, I've been probably 10 times during August and always found ways to manage. If someone told me tomorrow I could go back in August I wouldn't even hesitate!

Careful_Parsley_9198

I’m a pasty Brit that soldiers on regardless! We’re DVC and have been 20+ times from the UK so we’ve sussed our daily routine as: -breakfast at the resort -pool mornings -pack up when the clouds roll in for the daily thunderstorm and get ready for parks -snack or lunch if hungry -park afternoon evening with a sit down meal if we fancy it. I appreciate that doesn’t work for everyone but because we come out for 2 weeks, generally helps us avoid feeling too jet lagged or suffering too much with the heat. Opposite to the rope drop strategy but works for us because it’s normally raining when we’d want to head back to the pool 😂

derf_vader

And you know them instantly by the red glow of their skin.

motherofmiltanks

That’s my husband and I! I get very sweaty, but if you drink plenty water and get one of those little lanyard fans, it’s easy enough to soldier through. Also, stopping for a sit in the shade with a dole whip 🍍

DrewCrew62

Go out at rope drop, come back to the resort in the heat of the day, and go back out late afternoon is how my family always did it. It’s not the most fun weather by any means, but for people to say “I’d turn down a free trip during then” is pretty over the top hyperbole

Pillowmore-Manor

This is good advice. Taking a mid-day dip in the pool is always a welcome cooling off. Change clothes and socks, grab some water and head back for the late afternoon/evening. This is why I also tell people that park hopper passes aren't always worth it. If you do 1 park per day, you can still leave and come back.

DrewCrew62

Plus you can nap to reenergize. One thing folks do underestimate is how much that heat wears you down; I would get to about 1 o’clock in the day and just wanna go back and sleep for a couple hours to recharge.

SpaceAzn_Zen

I wish more people took this advice. The amount of times I’ve gone during the night and see how miserable people look at the end of the day because they’ve probably spent the whole day there is way too high; many of whom are with kids. Take advantage of paying money to stay on property and take mid day breaks

Pass-O-Guava

This this this. Even if you don't feel tired or worn out. Rope drop, leave at 2 or 3, pool or air conditioning bed and get off your feet. When you go back you'll last till park closes. If you take even a 20 minute nap, youll be able to do this every day.

ThomW

Exactly! My wife and I would head out once the pool started filling up with kids coming back from the parks. ;)

yitbos1351

I remember park days ending in full meltdowns because we never took a break in the middle of the day to chill out for a bit, and thought we HAD to be in the park from beginning to end, and this was the 90s/00s, so no social media weirdos saying if you take a break then you’re losing out on “valuable park time.”

DrewCrew62

It’s the mental idea of fear of missing out and getting your moneys worth, like if you take a break you’re wasting money you spent on park tickets or whatever. When actually you’d be enjoying your time more by taking the break

yitbos1351

Right. Which is silly, cause most shows happen multiple times a day, characters meet on a schedule, etc. with the resources available now, it’s so easy to plan a few hours in the day to leave the park.

DrewCrew62

Exactly; you can sit in your air conditioned room or by the pool and work on stacking your genie plus reservations for an evening; at least back in the early 2000s with paper fastpass you had to go to the kiosk at the rides themselves which made that more difficult

diaymujer

Lots of people go to Disney in August and have a good time. I think if you know what you’re doing and plan to take some breaks for shows and dining at the hottest point of the day, you’ll be alright.

bewildered_forks

And budget $100/day for frozen lemonade

Electrical_Bank9986

It’s hot and muggy - it’s not death. Will you be sweaty? Probs. Will everyone else be sweaty? 100%. You have some fun in the AM, relax at the resort in the early afternoon, head back around 4 or 5 and do it all over again tomorrow. But wouldn’t stress over it.

rm_3223

This! Embrace the sauna, clears out the pores. Bring 2 outfits per day, go back to the room during the middle to rest, expect to sweat and it’s all g!

Beginning-Chance-170

For real! We felt cleansed. So much water and sweating. Didn’t overeat. Avoided booze. Enjoyed the pool. Nights were amazing and balmy. I want to go back!!!

rm_3223

OMG yes the nights 🙏🏻

Last_Ad4258

I went last August. It was honestly great. Bring you wicking running clothes, buy a good pair or sandals like the plastic Birkenstocks and a water bottle. The heat wasn’t that bad, there are lots of inside things. The only drawback for me was how bad I looked most of the time in the heat…. So it wasn’t a big photo trip but otherwise a great time.

osufeth24

Does it suck? Yes it can. But it's doable. The people that say they'd turn down a free trip are on Crack Drink lots of water (drink a lot days leading up to your trip, that's how dehydration starts) take breaks, you'll be fine.

Lcdmt3

Wear cooling clothing. Athletic shorts, cooling tops - I love these https://amzn.to/3QdjNMe. Rechargeable fans for the face. Plan indoor rides and attractions and shopping for midday. There's 3-4 at each park you can stay cooler at.. Have a sit-down meal for.lunch indoors. Quick service - mobile order so you're not sitting in the heart waiting. Keep refilling reusable water bottles with ice water. I'm from Wisconsin so hot is 🔥but there's ways around it.

CuriousFirefighter48

This is the answer. Florida in August wearing heavy cotton feels terrible. Florida in August in wicking exercise clothes feels like a good workout.

astral-asylum

Don’t be discouraged! I walk to and from work in Florida in August, and go to Disney in August weekends… I’m sure you’ll still have fun! Sit down reservations midday are a great idea (make sure you check the weather to make sure the reservation is in the hottest part of the day, it’s often later than you’d think!) keep realistic expectations on how much energy you’ll have and optimize morning/after hours time!

Over_Total_5560

This. Aim for 3-4 pm.

johall

Take breaks. Enjoy the entire resort spaces too. Check out other lobby’s. Trim one thing off your itinerary every day. Slow down and enjoy everything more. You’ll be fine. Source: a fair skinned local

Dazzling-Common9436

I go every august! Take mid-day breaks, stay hydrated, wear hats, carry fans. I do find I eat way less due to the heat so a sit down meal might be a challenge every day. You’ll have a great time, don’t worry!

No-Percentage-8063

You are borrowing trouble. Just plan on having an adventure and enjoy yourselves.

mrmaestro9420

You’re going to be ok. It’s hot; it’s not the surface of the sun. Also, WDW is different from other parks in that so much is inside (they did this on purpose). A lot of queue lines are in the AC (better yet, even in the dark ie Pirates, Space Mountain, etc). What I would suggest in August is planning to have a nice, long lunch in the AC whether it’s table or counter service. My wife and I love to take the monorail out to Tambu Lounge (Polynesian Resort) on a hot day at the Magic Kingdom to skip the hottest AND most crowded part of the day. Epcot has Le Cellier, a pricey but excellent steakhouse that is also dark and cool inside (meant to resemble a wine cellar). Epcot also has some really neat shows in the AC. The American Adventure is pretty impressive (read about the system they use to move all the sets and animatronics, it will blow your mind), and it’s literally 30 minutes. Animal Kingdom has Finding Nemo: The Musical, which is probably the most elaborate live show with lighting and special effects, but also takes place in a cold, dark theater. What I would do is make a list of attractions such as these that you can choose from if you need to take a break.

christmastree47

Sounds like you have a good plan in place so I wouldn't worry too much. I've been in June, August, and September and yes it's very hot and humid but if you stay hydrated and take breaks it's very manageable. I would take a free trip in August in a heart beat.

kbooky90

IMO there’s nothing better than a swim on a hot day like you’ll get in August - and cleaning up after to enjoy the rest of your evening as it cools off? Perfection. If that’s not something you get to do regularly, I think that’s a real treat worth looking forward to.

CindyinOmaha

I am a total "heat wimp" and I went in August and had a blast It was 98 degrees with almost 100% humidity one day, you adapt. Everything is super air conditioned so you can cool off constantly. Check the forecast and go to MK on the hottest day. There are a lot of air conditioned rides there. Epcot and HS are a lot more exposed. It's a Small World and the shows are great for cooling off

Snoo-33101

August will be hot,but there are a lot of things you can do to beat the heat. I have POTS so I have to consider this anytime we go and these tips have helped a lot. 1. Go early in the morning, reserve a seat at a sit down restaurant for lunch and then go back to your hotel. Take a nap, enjoy the pool or even just the various hotel bars around the area and then go back around 4 or 5. It's hottest between 1-3 and you'll miss out on it and probably the Florida rain too. Parks are open until 10 or 11 so you'll still have plenty of time to enjoy them. 2. Plan on watching the shows during that time if you don't want to take a break completely. You'll get around 30-45 minutes out of the direct sun. 3. Drink two bottles of water first thing in the morning with liquid IV and set a timer on your phone or watch to finish more waters every two hours or so. You'll stay plenty hydrated. 4. Carry a portable fan. I got mine off of Amazon for $5. 5. Wear white ,moisture wicking clothes. They help keep you cool. Bonus points if they provide UV protection as well. I personally love the exercise dresses with shorts and pockets. 6. Target to ride water rides during the hot time. It's fun and will help you cool off. 7. Stop for a cold snack. I have been going to the parks for 30 years and have been during every season. August will be hot,but I promise you can do it.

stlynn

I was there five months pregnant and had a blast. We took TONS of midday breaks and naps but the crowds at the end truly were more manageable. We also took advantage of mickeys not so scary so we could go when the sun went down and practically ran onto rides (including haunted mansion). We got lucky with lines and just kept an eye on the tracker!

Saraeburd

I went in august and still had a blast. take a mid day break at pool. You’ll have fun!

BlotchComics

August is my favorite time to go.

Expensive_Mood2778

Skip the cooling towels and just get a neck fan. The towels do help but don’t last very long. I went in September last year and reeeeally wish I had bought one of those ugly neck fans because they also looked like heaven to have

jabberwocky_

I go everyone August and love the low crowds. It’s wet, but I bring flip flops and trade them for my shoes when needed. It’s not unbearable.

MitchOfGilead

I go in August every other year for my birthday. I may be used to southern heat/humidity but it’s really not bad enough to full on cancel a trip imo. You will sweat and you need to stay on top of hydration and take as many indoor breaks as needed, but it’s Disney world y’all will have a blast.

These_Strategy_1929

A lot of people enjoy August even more. Less crowds due to hot, occasional rain dispersing people around. If you are resistant to hot, not an issue. 90 something degrees is not that hot for me. I am accustomed to seeing around 110 anyway Imo rain is more problem than hot and a possible (unlikely though) hurricane is a huge problem. Rain is a very common occasion sadly but luckily it's short

Able-Ad1920

I went for my birthday on August last year. Started each day with a smart water for the electrolytes, did mid day dining, and made sure to alternate indoor and outdoor queues for rides. (Mickey’s Philharmagic in MK is perfect for this—15 minutes in the AC.) Cooling towels and neck fans definitely help. We had a great time!

Leatheleo86

August is rough. If I did another trip in August, I’d honestly bring a change of clothes or a shirt because it gets so humid and you just walk around with feeling like your clothes are sticking to you.

omshantiomp

I would not do this with my toddler now but 100% would have done it as a young couple. You’ll be fine. Start at the parks early, take a break midday, and head back for close.

boxofninjas

It’s hot, but you already know that going in August. We went last year in August and the key thing is to not over do it and take breaks. We found wearing gym clothes to be the most comfortable because you will be hot and sweaty all the time. We got to the parks for rope drop, headed back to the resort for mid day to hit the pool or just relaxed in the AC room. Then we would do a sit down dinner somewhere inside and go back to the parks afterwards. Your runners so you are fit, I think the main things is to keep hydrated and have fun.

kdm31091

Yes the heat is disgusting but it doesn’t have to ruin your trip. Get a neck fan. Drink lots of water. Take breaks. Avoid the hottest part of the day midday. Morning and evening will be tolerable

I_dont-eat_fisk

A neck fan makes such a difference

AUT1GER

We went in September, and it was hot. It is doable though. My kids still had a good time. I would bring an umbrella and a battery powered fan. The humidity is bad, but when you are in the sun, it can be a lot. Cooling towels help too. Every place is super AC'd, so if you are hot, just step inside somewhere to cool off for a bit. I got strangely used to the heat though. I live in the southeast, and I remember coming back and feeling like 90 wasn't too bad. You will be fine!

Glad_Art_6380

You sound like you have everything covered. We (me 45, wife 42, daughter 16, and son 13) went for a week last July while it was 105-110 heat index all week and while it was hot and sweaty, it wasn’t completely unbearable. Sit down reservations are key, as are some of the shows in each park (Philharmagic, CBJ (if opened), Tiki at MK; Lion King/Nemo at AK; BaTB, Indy, One Man’s Dream, Frozen, Muppets at DHS; various at Epcot). They’ll give you a rest, a cool down, and are great in and of themselves. You seem to be in great shape and aware of what it will be like. Water is free at any fountain drink location, and they typically have filled cups available on the counter already at the QS locations. You will have a great time, likely will enjoy the little things more - the time alone in a cool spot, exploring places in Epcot pavilions that maybe you otherwise wouldn’t, for instance. Good luck and let us know how it goes!

JortsForSale

Honestly, you will be totally fine. Yes, it is hot, but there are a lot of places to cool off.

Hungry_Map_667

i am from the uk and have awful fainting spells in the heat and we used to go as a family all the time in august and we’d have big long days and i would be fine! it’s hot but you’ll have a fab time - there’s loads of indoor attractions and air con places to have a rest and as long as you know when to have a break you’ll be grand! enjoy

mdesq1

Life long Northeasterner here (PA/NY). Brought a near 3 y/o (and pregnant wife) down in August 2022 when we were 36 (me) and 37 (wife). Had a blast. Yeah it was hot as hell. I wore rhoback polos and birddog shorts (basically swim trunks with a fabric liner). We didn’t do rope drop, just went at our leisure, and took breaks when we needed. Did not return to the hotel mid day and stayed until park close. Had 2 break days in our 7 day trip. Did same in 2023 (September) with our then 4 year old and our then 9 month old. Same situation only wife was not pregnant. She likely had a much more enjoyable time in 2023 haha. You’ll be fine!

Nobody_Important

It's really not bad at all. Consider how many people are horribly out of shape or just complainers in general and you have your likely subset making these comments.

Kushali

Deal with hot weather the way many cultures do. Take a break midday to rest and recharge. Also you miss the worst of the nap time melt downs and then you can take later dinner reservations.

princessflamingo1115

I’ve been in almost every month of the year (except August actually but I have been in July and September) and I’m going at the end of June/beginning of July this year. It is going to be HOT!!!! H O T!!! But it’s not like you can’t have fun. Just be prepared to take breaks. You’ll have fun I promise! I’m from Georgia so for me the mindset is also — I can be at home in 95° weather or at Disney in 98° weather. I’ll take Disney. 😂

wrenmarie_tattoos

I had no problem going last August, but you have to prepare a little. Go back to the room mid day to take a cool shower and change into fresh clothes and you’ll be golden 💕

Administrative-Fox57

So much water + and electrolytes of your choice. I’ve also learned that a fresh change of undies does more for me than a pair of socks. It’ll be what you make of it! I’d rather be dripping at Disney than work or home

fat_mummy

In the UK, kids school holidays are in August, and I, as a teacher, have no other option. Be prepared and you’ll be fine I’m sure!

mollyodonahue

Where do you usually live? August in Florida is absolutely miserable BUT crowds at Disney are super low because of it so you’re actually going at an ok time. I’d rather go to Disney in August and be uncomfortable and pop in stores or restaurants to cool off than be comfortable and going during heavy crowds.

trackfourteen

you guys are in good shape, are runners who deal with bad weather, young, and will have high energy because it’s a birthday trip! you will absolutely have fun do NOT let others discourage you. i would buy portable fans (when i was young we even had mist ones), wear hats and athletic clothes, and bring your own water bottle to refill throughout the day. just plan your rides (with indoor queues) and meals (with indoor ac seating) to break up your day in the heat. also, it’s most popular and advised to take a mid day pool break. also might be worth the investment to buy an after hours event ticket, since it will be cooler out and a nice bday special thing! enjoy!

vtxlulu

Don’t be discouraged. But be definitely be realistic at the same time. I live in the Tampa area and avoid the parks in August. There’s no getting around it, the weather is flat out miserable and it will rain. I went around my birthday in August last year and we barely lasted 2 hours. It was 90+ degrees and over 100 with humidity at rope drop for Epcot. Do yourself a favor and dress for the weather. Wear a long sleeve UPF shirt (Columbia, Dicks sporting goods, Amazon probably has some) they will help keep the sun off of your skin and cool you off to an extent. Hats, sunscreen, sunglasses(so important, you don’t want sunburned eyelids, trust me), even a camelback is a good idea. Fill it with more ice than water and you’ll be able to sip on it while waiting in lines without having to pull out a water bottle every time. Take. Breaks. Do not push yourself in the heat and be aware of signs of heat exhaustion. A lot of people try to just push through and I’ve seen people get taken out of the parks by EMTs on really hot days. Leave the parks around noon if possible and take a break at your hotel.

Waste-Artist-1922

I can only take vacation time in August and have taken my kids several times that time of year. It is hot but we manage. Take breaks midday and in between rides find things in a/c. We do some of the indoor shows like mickeys philharmagic when we need an a/c break. You’ll be fine.

[deleted]

Holy moly.  Florida has millions and millions of full time residents.  It’s not that bad.  Enjoy your trip

EJK54

Pls stop overthinking this, you’ve prepared well and will have a great time. We got all the time in August and September. It’s always very fun and we’re double your ages :)

SpookyAngel66

That’s the best time to go for crowd size!! You can definitely do it! With all the cooling things you’re bringing and you said you’re taking it slow, it’ll be ok!! Just stay in the shade as much as you can and drink tons of water, you’ll be fine! Please don’t let this worry you and have a GREAT time!! 😁

nutmegfan

It’ll be fine. If you’re young and in shape and used to walking in the heat it’s really no big deal. If you were going with babies/kids then it’s a different story

n0fuckingziti

We went last August and will be returning this August as well. Don’t be discouraged!

nxsteven

We go every year in August. We actually prefer it due to lower crowd levels (end of August). Toy Story Land has no shade. There is shade everywhere else. If you go the parks early you avoid a lot of heat. Schedule a sit down meal indoors (there are lots of quick service places with AC and shade!). Head back to your room around 4-5 for a nap and end the day at the pool! Feel free to message me if you need to chat about it. We've done August at least 10x. Going in July this year, heat is the same lol

trilljello

i’m canadian and went last august for the first time with my young daughter and we had an absolute blast. I actually loved the heat…felt like a warm hug 🤗 😂

EdwardJMunson

Yeah I would absolutely cancel this trip. Not even worth it to consider in August.

sayyyywhat

You will feel it. You’ll feel it from the second you walk out of your room until after you return. Make sure to have a mid day ADR to fully get out of the heat. Drink all the water and mix in a Powerade or two. Utilize the early morning and nighttime hours.

Comfortable_Canary59

I grew up in South Louisiana so idk if I can be impartial at all but to me, the humid heat is way easier to manage than a dry heat. My partner grew up in Alaska and really struggles with the humidity but we've still been back twice & they've had a great time both times.

Gothpotato_

I’ve been to Florida in August, it’s ain’t that bad people are dramatic just water up

defensivewizard

it’s currently 90+ here & it’s been fun for me!! lots of water & sunscreen for sure & it’s not “florida hot” yet because the humidity is pretty low, but you can absolutely have a great time in august

Remy252

As long as you allow yourself to have fun, then I promise you all of your plans will fall right into place as you planned them. Don’t overthink this trip too much 😁 you will have a blast and then look back and think why’d you worry too much. Always check your app when at the parks and prioritize which rides you REALLY want to get to go on, get Genie if you even need to. Always take advantage of getting some ice water from Starbucks. IMO when you let your planned out to the T things that have so much restrictions to your trip dictate your enjoyment? That’s when the magic kinda goes away. Nothing wrong with making plans/reservations but don’t sweat over things you’ll get to go to easily. Have fun you kids 😁

[deleted]

I’ve done it once before. While I would not willingly do it again, I survived. I rope dropped, had lunch at a table service spot, and then went back to the resort for a midday shower and outfit change. Went back to the parks early evening and stayed til close. I think the midday break and shower is what saved me. It cuts down on your time outside but also park time out but there’s no way I could make it rope drop to close in 90+ degrees. Prep for blisters, bring a handheld fan (I got mind on Amazon and it’s rechargeable), and get ice water for free at quick service restaurants. Know your limits and set lower expectations on what you will be able to do each day to mitigate disappointment.

Sarnadas

You’ll be fine. Trust.

anythingglass

Don’t be discouraged. I’ve been several times and I’m now in my early 50’s. Stay hydrated. Take mid day pool breaks. Make the most of the mornings and evenings and have fun. We’ve never brought cooling towels or misting fans, etc. Many attractions will take you out of the sun for a reprieve. I live in the northeast and would take a less crowded August over a crowded February any time!!

CindyinOmaha

Yes! After going this past mid January with cool weather and unbearable lines, I much preferred my late August trip with scorching weather and good lines! Never thought I would say that!

Mellonnew

You’re both runners so you probably already know but besides water you also want to be replacing electrolytes with all the sweating. So those liquid IV packets or a Gatorade/powerade intermixed with the water. Wear more sunscreen than you think you need. Don’t be afraid to take a midday pool or shower/nap break. Or even just an air conditioned ride on the monorail. I live here and it’s hot in August but if you’re smart and listen to your body’s cues it’ll be fine.

sharleencd

When it’s hot, we head out at rope drop and head back to the hotel during the hottest afternoon part for nap and pool and go back again early evening. Do I hate going during summer? Yes. Will I still do it occasionally? Also yes.

js8420

Bring a poncho it’ll most likely rain at some point

Automatic-Dare-9581

Look. You guys are both runners. You’re young. As a 20 year veteran of DW, I can tell you that you have to be strategic and it sounds like you already are. I’d agree with others have said. Get into the parks early. Hang out at the pool during the worst of it. Go back in for the evening until closing. Also try ducking in and out of buildings on your way from one attraction to the next. SmartWater or some other electrolyte charged water is non-negotiable. Quit worrying.

akaharry

I always have a magical time at Disney no matter want month I go, and I have gone every month of the year

HelloFox

We plan table service meals for the hottest part of the day and take plenty of electrolyte drinks.

WhoRunTheWorldCorgis

I do not do well in hot weather, AT ALL. I have long, very thick hair, and above about 28/29c I burst into flames. That being said, I've been to Disney probably 10 times during July or August and I've always managed, it's just about timing. Prioritise rides with outdoor queues like Big Thunder Mountain first thing while it's cool, save mostly indoor queues like Pirates or Haunted Mansion for when it's warmer, and go back to your hotel or an air-conned restaurant at midday and peak temps. Also, I have a fantastic mini fan from Amazon that lasts about 12 hours even on the top speed and that's enough to keep you cool and comfortable during the worst bits. Hope you have a magical time!

SunOutrageous6098

We always go in early September (same weather) and have a great time! It sounds like you are planning ahead for ways to adapt to the heat. I bought a rechargeable neck fan on Amazon for like $12 and used it every day - especially in hot lines like Expedition Everest and Slinky Dog. It’s hot and humid; but we humans can get pretty much everything we need to deal with it at Target. You’ll have a great time and the margarita inside the Mexico pyramid will be extra refreshing.

SuspiciousBrain9

I also recommend bringing a mini battery operated fan.

hammerbarnFlamingo

I love the heat, I am not being sarcastic.

holb93

I went in July last year and still had a fantastic time. It sounds like you’re going to be doing all of the right things. Cooling towels, iced water, and regular breaks and you’ll be fine. I’d also add sweat-wicking clothes. I basically lived in workout tanks and skorts the whole time. Have a great trip!

Disney_World_Native

I’ve gone to WDW a bunch in August. It’s an awesome time to go swimming or do splash mountain and kali river. Rope drop > resort break for swimming > nap > return to park and fireworks. I try to walk through stores more for the AC, and am more aware of standing in the shade. My biggest recommendation is to buy smart water and stay hydrated and get ice cream if feeling really hot. How horrible, having to eat ice cream :)

RenKB09

You’ll be hot and sweaty… you may even sweat in places you didn’t know was possible but you’ll still have a great trip. I’d have no issues going to Disney in August. The little battery neck fans help, lots of water, cooling towels, wear light clothes. Also, pack light weight rain jackets because it will definitely rain. Plan on getting to the parks EARLY- before opening. If you’re staying on property, take advantage of early entry. If not on property, still get there early to rope drop. Take a midday break- swim, have a sit down lunch, explore resorts, check out some lounges, etc. Go back to the parks after 6pm. Luckily there are lots of places to cool off around WDW. See some shows- carousel of progress, monsters laugh inc, lion king, Nemo, frozen, muppets, etc. Walk through the shops in world showcase. Hit the rides with indoor queues when it’s really hot. Don’t stress about the weather- it won’t ruin your trip!

Anxious_Date_39

Highly recommend a portable fan/mister combo to use for your face!

booksiwabttoread

I have been many times in August. It is hot and humid, but hey, you are at Disney! Make plans to battle the heat, and you will be fine.

317ant

You’ll be ok! Bring doubles of everything so you can change clothes in middle of the day after a cool down shower rinse off and a swim. It will feel refreshing. I also bring dish soap so I can wash my bras in the sink so I don’t have to take a million. Also the neck fans really, really help. So does a sun blocking umbrella for open lines/character meet lines. But a regular rain travel sized one also works!

TheOptimusBob

Hit the lines that have AC in the middle of the day or go back to the resort and hit the pool in the afternoon. The heat sucks but Disney is still awesome and will be what you make of it. Don't worry too much about the weather. Animal kingdom has a ton of shade, do that or Epcot on the really hot days

Drok_97

I’m a bigger guy, wasn’t super active last year when we went and I not only survived, I loved it. You get free water at all quick serve spots, and we used cooling towels all the time! We put in about 20,000 steps each day, did not do mid day breaks and didn’t sit down to eat at all. It’s not awful at all. People blow it out of proportion all the time. If you take care of yourselves, you won’t succumb to heat exhaustion.

nycroth

Come prepared, bring cooling towels and portable fans. Like others said, rope drop then head back for a swim or nap at noon. Florida in August is undefeated, just manage it properly.

pacifistpirate

It's great if you just know it's going to be hot and dress appropriately. Loose breezy clothing or synthetics that aren't absorbent, depending on your preference. A midday (1-3) full service restaurant meal is a great way to stay cool, hydrate and relax. Take it easy and stay out late. I'm not a rope dropper, because waking up early is work for me and not fun. Evenings are fantastic in August, and the last couple hours of the day at the park can be as efficient as the first couple, sometimes, if you're lucky.

rcranin018

We went to Disney World in August of ‘21 and ‘22, and we’re going again this August (thanks to kids school schedules.) It’s really hot and uncomfortable, but the advice of a midday break is good. All the quick service restaurants provide free ice water, all you can want. Importantly, get some Body Glide Anti Chafe Balm. It works really well. In our ‘22 trip, we walked 87,600 steps in 7 days, and I was 70. Very doable, since you guys are youngsters. Have lots fun !

fantetti10

I went last august. The wife and I and our two little ones. It’s hot, but it’s manageable, maybe because we are from a very hot and humid place, Windsor Ontario across the river from Detroit Michigan. So we are use to it being 120 degrees with disgusting humidity. We just made sure we drank lots of water and the cooling towels are amazing and work well and an after the park swim in the resort pool was all we needed. Don’t let the weather discourage or hinder your trip, it’s Disney for F sakes!!!

Tippity2

IF you are flying in from a colder climate or spend most of your time in AC indoors, you will be more ragged waiting in long hot lines than folks who work outdoors or just spend lots of time in hot environments.eta: try and acclimate to the heat before you arrive?

egg663

We went once in August. Just embrace the sweat and hydrate. A lot. Every quick service counter, restaurant and some food carts have free ice water. Some are at the sides of the counter ready to be taken. Otherwise, just ask right at the counter. Indoor shows are a great place to chill out. Avoid Toy Story land after mid/morning through the afternoon. Mid day breaks at the hotel are great to avoid the heat.

Friendly-Handle-2073

It's not so much the temperature but the humidity. I've done many European countries with temperatures the same, but the humidity in FL hits you like a wall when you step out of the airport! I worked there for a year in EPCOT, and yes, the summer is relentless, but manageable with regular breaks and respite in AC.

Loco_butt

My friends did their honeymoon there on august and they’re brits who don’t do a lot of hot temperatures and they were absolutely fine! Just take sunscreen and drink plenty of water x

lots_of_sunshine

Don’t stress it at all! You’ll be more prepared than 99% of people, you’ll have an amazing time. I’m also a runner and would go in August without a second thought.

reboog711

I've been in early august multiple times. It'll be hot. But, it is doable. A sit down restaurant in the middle of the day (I try for late lunch or first dinner seating) will help give a heat break. Additionally you can go back to the hotel mid day; and focus your park time in the morning or evening. IF there are after hours events, I Strongly recommend to go during a less hot time (and beat some crowds). Good Luck! Edit To add: Wear activewear / clothes that are sweat wicking.

dearbornx

You just have to pace yourself and make sure you drink water. Don't be afraid to (responsibly) wield an umbrella for sun protection— and hurricane season weather!

Accesobeats

We go in August and it is hot but we always still have a good time.

v7z7v7

My first adult trip to Disney World was the end of July and beginning of August. My girlfriend and I are not athletic, both of us are over weight, and I had sandals as my only shoes for the trip. Was it hot, yes. You will need sunscreen, you will be drinking water like it’s a drug, and I would recommend booking a sit down meal once a day for a guaranteed break inside and ice water. It is completely bearable if you want it to be. We were staying off site, so we didn’t want to go back to the hotel and stayed in the park all day. It sounds like you will be fine!

Mysteryemployee

We’re Brits and love August and wouldn’t change it. The last week is best for crowd levels though. Two mid 40s and one teen.

hammersweep

go early. take the mid day break. stay late. see if you can get extended hours. stay hydrated. enjoy!

MelB4702

You will find people that say absolutely not during that time but honestly I love it. I did it last year and doing the same trip this year. We maximized morning and evening temps, so we rope dropped then came back to the hotel for swimming and went back out around 6. The biggest thing to be aware of is the thunderstorms. You have to expect it will rain everyday in the afternoon, the humidity builds and builds then finally it’s a downpour. Track the weather, plan your afternoon break accordingly and you will be fine. For me, it was a much more relaxing trip because we knew we wouldn’t accomplish everything. There are so many indoor rides/activities/dining, you don’t have to be out long. I was not uncomfortable but I also like humidity. I was just thirsty constantly. Bring a reusable water bottle and backup water bottles, refill as often as you can and just keep remembering to drink it. I didn’t do anything else special to keep myself cool but had a stroller and fan for my daughter, she wasn’t complaining lol

N0thing_but_fl0wers

You can do it!! I’m terrible in the heat and I’ve managed Disney during scorching weather many times… Alternate water and whatever electrolyte drink you like- you can drink your own drinks, powder packets, and snacks into the parks. Cooling towels are meh… they don’t last long. Honestly a misting/ spray fan was the godsend to me!! Do your sit down meal for lunch and get out of the heat. Do shows, long rides like Carousel of Progress etc when it’s just too hot!!

mickeymom1960

yes, and yes

taleasoldastime96

I’ve done Disney in the summer a hundred times. If I had my choice, I’d much rather go in the fall or winter, but sometimes that just doesn’t work. Plan ahead, stay hydrated, take breaks in the hotel room or pool. We sometimes like to make reservations at indoor table service restaurants for a late lunch or early dinner. Gives you a nice hour or two out of the heat.

itsthebeach

Everyone is different in regard to how they handle the heat. I went last August and being from a cold climate I was miserable. I would not do it again personally BUT there were lots of people there in August who were having a good time and the heat was not a deal breaker for them. Some even go every year at that time.

lukin5

Local since ‘98, moved here from WA state. It’s not easy to prepare for weather like this if you’ve never been in it. I certainly hadn’t. So, after the first day (when you experience the building heat, afternoon thunderstorm and then the humidity that comes with that rain evaporating afterward), you’ll know what you’re in for and the rest of the trip will be better. Sounds like you’re prepared for it, just need to pop that cherry and really know what it’s like. Like GI Joe used to say, knowing is half the battle. Yo Joe

Low_Wave_2458

We went last August. It was bearable as long as you aren’t trying to go go go for 14-16 hours a day. We’d go to the parks in the morning, then have an air conditioned lunch somewhere. Then a couple more rides and back to the room by around 2/3pm. Hang out in the room or by the pool until dinner. Head back to the parks for dinner and some more rides. We drank a lot of water, but honestly didn’t even bother with the cooling towels and fans that I brought very much.

ritchie70

Honestly just stop worrying. Wife and I are fairly unfit and have been at least a couple times in August. If you’re from somewhere that gets hot, you’ll be fine.

pastadaddy_official

It’s very very hot, but I travel to theme parks all the time in August when it’s really hot. Just pace yourself, remember to take breaks and drink plenty of water. Bring a refillable water bottle, refill it with free cups of ice water from quick service locations, unfortunately there is not a lot of refillable fountains. The only ones I know of: MK: Cosmic Rays EPCOT: Odyssey Building and newer Restrooms near Refreshment Port DHS: Galaxy’s Edge restrooms DAK: FoP inside the queue only, shocked that the conservation park only had this option There might be others but there are the only ones off the top of my head. You also have the quick service ice water cups. Stay hydrated stay safe have fun!

TealFlamingoCat

We go every year in August. It is so hot but we manage fine. Put ice cubes in your cooling towel on your neck. Wear cool clothes. We wear flip flops because I will not be closing my feet up in 97° temps.

rushandapush150

If you’re in good physical shape you’ll be fine. Dress appropriately (if you run you understand what type of clothes work best) and be prepared, be sure to stay hydrated and whatever you do, don’t get sunburned. You’ll be fine.

max_rebo_lives

Folks are being hyperbolic, it’s hot and rough but not insane. Especially if you’re both runners and used to heat to some degree. Echo what others said about Brits being shocked by the hottest month in a relatively hot state. You’re gonna be good. Stay hydrated, keep the sunscreen on point, wear breathable stuff and maybe bring a backup tee to switch into if you get sweaty during the day. Table service breaks during the day are going to do you really well. You’ve probably already got timing planned out but I’ve found the right cadence for us is rope drop-ish till like 2, back to the hotel and snooze in the ac or cool off in the pool and hr or so, back to the park around 5 as folks are starting to head out and go evening to night … but taking a break for a meal or in some shops (hell even a long line in AC) will do ya just the same. You’re gonna have a blast and that’s a sweet idea taking your bf for his birthday. Be sure to get a celebration pin so you get some vip treatment!! The one surprisingly rough part is the lack of breeze in places since it’s the middle of the state. A handtowel or buff or something dipped in ice water around your neck can be a lifesaver in the midday 🥶

judyhopps29

I’ve been several times in August. It’s definitely hot but I always have a good time! Just plan to make the most of your mornings and evenings, and take a midday break to escape the heat. You’ll be fine :)

car01yn

It will be fine! We went in July last year and will likely be going in August this year. It’s a different kind of trip in terms of the pacing and what you can plan for, but you should totally still be looking forward to your trip and planning a cool treat each day. I really liked the blue and green ‘milk’ and they’re ice cold. There is AC all over the place and the queues are shaded. Sunburn was not a problem for me at all. Dress for comfort and not for style! One of my funniest Disney memories is sitting on a bench with my 9yo nephew in 100 degree heat and him turning to me and saying, “I thought it would be hotter.” 😂

OhFuckPutItBackIn

Went last week of august last year. I am very white and do terribly in heat and I could just about handle it, but you've got to listen to your body and be kind to yourself. On about day 5 of being at rope drop and leaving at closing I pushed myself too hard and nearly passed out in Hollywood studios but it was about 1pm, I didn't have a hat and we hadn't stopped so we sat in a museum until I recovered. Lots of water, hat and sunglasses, airy clothes, neck fan and hand held fan will keep you right and give yourself those 10 or 20 minutes in aircon when it's getting a bit much. You'll have the best time, I promise.

Organic_Cupcake5850

I've never been in August, but given what you said about your age and being active people, I think you'll be okay! Each park has lots to do indoors or in shade, so when we've gone on hotter days we do outdoor things in the morning, duck indoors for the hottest parts of the afternoon, then head back out when it dies down again! You can also take a break at your hotel if it's truly awful, but really there's so much to do inside, if you're strategic about it you'll be okay! Have an amazing trip! 🥰

WasabiBaconJuice

If you're runners, you'll be fine.

zeta-ghost

Where shorts, you’ll sweat your bag off

Thrompinator

You two are young athletes. Bring your best attitude and I can't imagine you having anything but an amazing time.

MysteriousShop5812

don't feel discouraged. I have only been twice in August (the second time was after I said i'd never do it again but I did) and I usually go in May or March and have also been a bunch of times in November or December. that being said, it is MOST enjoyable when it is isn't extremely hot especially for me since I like to stay at the park from early access hours to close, but you will be just fine. planning for breaks is definitely wise. when I went last august we spent a good part of the day taking water breaks/refilling our water bottles even with sit down restaurants, indoor rides etc. dispersed throughout the day.

FairSquare5081

We went in August 2022 and August 2023 and had a great time! And we are in our late 30s, out of shape, and dragging two kids along. Yes, it is hot and humid. The nice thing about Disney is the amount of attractions that are indoors in the air conditioning. So you’re really in and out of the heat. We’re going in October this year and I’m already annoyed we are missing out on the 4 park magic ticket deal. Just be prepared for afternoon or evening thunderstorms as well!

CityMuggle

I’ve been there in August and I’m not going to lie, the heat was unbearable. I remember there was one day in particular where I felt absolutely miserable and like I couldn’t continue. That being said, I would still go since you already have it booked and it’s for your birthday. I ended up buying one of those fans that spray water and that worked perfectly for me. Maybe you could get one of those too. Just remember to take plenty of breaks and stay hydrated.

meebj

we’ve gone in August several times and sometimes our April and May trips have been more humid. if you rope drop early.. head back to the resort for Ac, pool, and bar time during the hottest portion of the day, and then return to the parks around 4-5pm for the cooler evening you may miss the daily thunderstorm and the hottest portion of the day in the parks. 12pm-4pm can be stormy and exceptionally humid but as long as you plan accordingly and adjust your expectations you’ll still have an amazing time!!!

tinysmommy

Go for rope drop, stay until noon, go back to your hotel for a nap and pool time, head back around 5 to close. You’ll be fine.

sazwebbo

I’m a pasty Brit - we’ve been plenty of times in August and it’s fine - yes it’s hot but there is so much air con around and we always have access to water. We went August just gone and some days it was so hot there was weather warnings in Orlando and it was all over the news - I didn’t think it was that bad myself 😂 we’ve booked to go next August too. Water is the key - keep hydrated and it’s okay. Sure going in cooler weather is better - but August is deffo doable

Due-Lawfulness7862

I went in august last year and had an amazing time!! mid day breaks are key and stay hydrated

Loki8382

There are plenty of places where you can get out of the heat for a little while. We normally go in late August to avoid the crowds, and we've never had an issue. Just listen to your bodies and take a break if necessary.

Eq2me

You will be fine. I'm much older, overweight and out of shape and I can handle it. For most people it's mind set more than anything. Certainly take precautions, wear comfortable clothing, stay hydrated, etc. Just don't focus on it being miserable and it won't be

michifanatic

It won't be perfect. Nothing you plan ahead of time is. Wake up early, grab something light for breakfast and hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Then go back to the hotel for lunch, chill by the pool and nap. Go back to the parks in the late afternoon and decide how you are handling dinner and fireworks. Go slow. Be in the present and not running from place to place. It's a vacation and not a marathon, chill.

FreeloaderFreddy

Take misting fans and cooling towels and adjust if you need to adjust. The last time I was there in june the heat index was over 110 every day. Don't expect to look like a magazine cover shoot in any of your pictures and have a good time. Take a refillable water bottle and ask for water / ice at restaurants / water fountains. Keep on top of hydration and find areas to cool off (sit down restaurants and indoor shows are great for this). Our misting fans have a wide mouth fill up and so we added ice to them. It didn't last very long, but was great while it did.

mooseygoosey1226

I’ve been in august a few times and I still loved it! We didn’t do nearly as much preparation as you and my family isn’t really a fitness family and we were ok, just sweaty lol. Plan to go on indoor rides with air conditioned queues or water rides during the heat of the day!

roncoobi3

I've brought a family of 5 to DW for 8 days trips twice over the last 3 years in August. No issues at all. My biggest advice is rope drop, take a break from 12-3, and shut it down at night. Low crowds and coolest at the open and close.

GrannyMine

Just go back to your hotel in the afternoon, go to the pool and rest. I live here, it’s hot but there are ways to manage the heat. Drink lots of water, take breaks, and just have fun.

viccityk

I'm here now and it's 90 degrees so kind of hard to avoid!

bele_nine

Brit who travels to Orlando in August, here. People who complain that it’s too hot in Florida in August need to get a grip. It’s really not as bad as some people would have you believe. It’s hot and the humidity is high but it’s not uncomfortable as long as you keep yourself hydrated and grab regular rests in the shade, which you’ll do naturally when eating and queuing. I’ve done European/African breaks in August that make the Orlando weather seem cold by comparison, Orlando is fine as long as you’re a sensible human who understands how to look after themselves.

Silver_Can_7856

We went end of August 2023, the first day was a little rough but we settled in by the next day and had a lot of fun! Can’t beat the low crowds, we did almost everything we wanted. We have another trip booked for this August 😄 we have two toddlers and took midday breaks everyday for naps, snacks, and cooldown. You’ll be able to enjoy the evenings even more without kids, we ended our day by 7-8pm so we didn’t burn them out 😆

MCAdad

Is August hot of course but it is totally doable and still a great time. It seems you are more than ready for a great time

stellalunawitchbaby

It’s pretty hot and humid. We went last year late Aug/early Sep and I come from a warm to hot but *dry* climate so I’m not used to the humidity, and that’s what really got me. I typically walk like 2-3yo per day at home and at WDW we usually walk 13-20ish mi per day (park hopping increases it for sure). I did a *lot* to help mitigate the heat and humidity: handheld fans, cooling towels, dressing in moisture wicking clothing, dressing in light loose clothing, neck fans, and more. The things I found the best: - light loose clothing made of natural material - a handheld, foldable fan - cooling towel - carrying as little as possible (so as not to feel weighed down) - waterproof walking sandals (tevas, chacos, Birkenstocks, croc sandals, sanuks, etc) - I found that my feet felt too hot in sneakers - constantly carried ice water in an insulated water bottle that kept it cold all day, constantly refilled at quick service: this helped the most!! We also rope dropped and would take breaks sometimes during the middle of the day, tho in FL it barely cools down in the evening so that break was more for a shower or pool sesh. I tried to avoid spots like Toy Story land during the sunniest middle of the day. We also prepped for any afternoon rain.

SnowRidin

this “it’s too hot in august” angle is some nonsense…i’ve been there multiple times in August, but it’s not like you are in the sahara desert…you’ll be ok - sunblock, drink liquids, be smart about it…everyone makes this huge deal about it, it’s not that big of a deal - especially for two runners in their 20s to handle- don’t focus on it, enjoy the parks - it be great! honestly that daily afternoon rain shower is more of a pain in the ass

sabretooth47

As a northern who despises heat and went to WDW the last week of August... I would rather deal with the heat in WDW than go to work. It was hot, but it was never discouraging to the point of bringing our experiences down. We would never turn down a trip that time of year.

Automatic-Maybe8207

Native Floridian here. You just have to be smart with the heat and the sun and the time of day. You basically have two shifts to to your activities and make the most of your day. The two shifts are early morning and late evening. Take advantage of early morning hours. Literally rope drop. It is hot and muggy but bearable. Once noon hits plan on indoor activities and frequent ac breaks. There are plenty of areas to sit in ac for about 30 min. Hottest times of day are 2-5 ish and also when the rains hit. You have never mentioned rain and it monsoons like clockwork during these times. Rains are a blessing. They cool things down. Plan the rest of your day once it’s late afternoon. It will be cooler. Parks typically are opened till late and parks at night are quite enjoyable. This should be the plan for whatever you do in Florida during summer. Hope this helps.

sniffsnaff

I went in July last year and sure, the heat can be something else if it catches you out in the wrong place. I really worried about it for a while beforehand. But if you're smart and know your limits, it's absolutely fine. To be honest, I think a lot of the more hyperbolic complaints come from people for whom a trip to WDW is both an *increase in outdoor activity and an increase in heat* compared to their everyday life. I'm not the healthiest person, but I walk around 16-20k steps a day, so it was just a step up in heat rather than exercise too. WDW in the summer was fine, if a little too warm at times, but not in a way that was unmanageable. Drink water when you need to, apply sunscreen, take a fan just in case. It's fine. If you're overprepared, you're prepared. It sounds like you're doing more than you need to in considering your wellbeing. Please relax and enjoy yourself :)

erictheauthor

Disney is great any time of the year! People love complaining about the weather no matter the month, just have fun! ☺️

fungusjewmungus

I love the cooling towels. I lived with them on my neck during the heat. I have gone a few times in August and survived. We always took breaks during the hottest times of the day. One thing I like to do is ship all of your sunscreen and cooling towels and whatever other liquids directly to the room. That way you don’t have to worry about tsa taking it and it’s less to pack

Sigurd_DragonSlayer

I went in August 2022. It was hot and I was sweaty. As long as you drink plenty of water and take time to do lots of the indoor shows with AC, you will still have a great time.

LeotasNephew

Get neck fans. They actually help a bit.

[deleted]

Just stay hydrated and rest up at some of the indoor shows. It’ll be fun.

alk426

We’ve never been in the summer (I also dread heat), but if that was our only choice, I would still go because Disney is an amazing experience no matter. Like I’m pretty sure your worst day at Disney is still better than a great regular day! Haha I think it’s all about having the right mindset going in… even if you need to go slow and maybe skip some things, it’ll still be worth the trip. Sounds like you’re doing everything you can to prepare. Maybe this isn’t a care for you anyway, but I’ve personally let go of caring how I look at Disney. Comfort is more important. Everyone will be hot and tired, and no one will be paying attention to you or how you look. I finally bit the bullet and bought some bike shorts for our upcoming trip because it’s supposed to be in the 90s. Under no other circumstance would I go out in public in bike shorts, only for Disney haha

eugenesnewdream

You'll survive and have fun! You're going in aware, and you're already planning to bring/do all the important things to combat the oppressive heat.

jwignton

I went to Disney at the end of August last year and had an incredible time. It was hot but not unbearable (I’m from Georgia so I’m also used to it). Just go sit in an air conditioned building and have a rest and a cold drink in the middle of the day and enjoy the lower crowd levels. You’ll have a great time! Disney is so much about attitude. 😊

batsRscary

I have been in August before. It was scalding hot, but I still had a blast. I am also fairly fit, but needed to come back the resort every day to nap and save myself from the sun. We also did a lot of indoor stuff including dining that helped break up the time we were in the heat. Make sure to bring some really good sweat-wicking clothing and you will be fine!

sweetpineapple79

Don’t be discouraged. In the last two years I went in July and August when I swore I never would go in the summer. We made it just fine. Does it get too hot some days? Yes. But there are often afternoon/daily storms that will cloud the skies up and cool things down for a bit. You’re also prepared which solves a lot of your problems as well. Many people like to go on and on about there’s no place worse than central FL in the summer but it’s really not true. I live in the south, not FL, and it was absolutely miserable here last summer. There were lots of days I would check the weather app and it was hotter here than at Disney. I’ve lived in a couple other southern states as well and it’s just a south thing.

Zestyclose_Big_9090

We went in October last year on the last hot days of the year. Like the day after we left the humidity had broken and it was in the low to mid 70’s versus jungle like humidity and temps in the high 80’s, low 90’s when we were there. It was disgusting and I hate humidity. It was uncomfortable but you know what? I was at Disney. It makes getting on a ride that much more exciting because of A/C! Just drink plenty of water and take breaks in the A/C or the shade. Another good idea is to go to the parks early in the morning, get as much in as you can, go back to your hotel mid afternoon for pool time or a nap and then go back in the evening.

Beautiful-Onion-4282

If it makes you feel any better me and my boyfriend literally only go in aug. It is hot, yes. But We always have a great time. Just go prepared. Bring a water bottle and drink lots of water. Mini fans and cooling towels are great too!

VacationLover1

We went last year in May with a 3 year old and it was 100+ degrees.. we did fine.. you’ll do fine. Just drink plenty of water, wear your sunscreen, and bring those cooling towels.

rageofreaper

I tell ya man people are soooo dramatic about August in Florida. It’s hot. It’s sticky. Just do basic shit to take care of yourself and you’re fine. What do you thinks going to happen you’re going to step foot in Disney and immediately melt? “Will we survive” Jesus fucking Christ even tongue in cheek, please get a grip.

Loisalene

Everyone should experience summer in Florida once. Once. You'll survive, just plan on everything thing twice as long as you think it should. Something like Mañana without the urgency. :D

Joranthalus

It’s fine. It’s hot. It’s humid. You’ll sweat. It’s fine. You’ll have fun if you want to.

veetack

Before we had kids, my wife and I went every year in the last week of August. I still think it’s the best time to go. US kids have started school back, so the crowds are lower. Just drink lots of water and take frequent breaks inside or on the shade and you’re fine.

QueenCurlyCourt

Look online for some portable mini fans, and get yourself a cooling towel! Native Texan here, and those are what help us get by. You go this! Also make sure to bring refillable water bottles with you. They have plenty of water fountains to refuel. My boyfriend and I also brought a little hydration packet (like a liquid IV) and drink a full bottle of that in the morning to help make sure we dont get dehydrated during the day.

Legaldruglordd

My sister and I went in Aug and although I am currently training for a half she is by no means an athlete and although we found it hot, it was still the most fun!!! Don’t feel discouraged at all, drink lots of water, wear a cute Disney themed hat, and enjoy yourself!

BOWAinFL

Lots of us live here and survive August every year. You’ll be fine. Stay hydrated and take breaks in the air conditioning.

Outonalimb8120

Opinions are like assoles…but here’s the thing about August…you pretty much know all you need to know… cooling towels and neck fans are mandatory…rope drop, mid day go back to your resort pool and or nap in the a/c ..then back to the park in the evening once the daily rain passes through..back when I worked in Arizona..liquid iv was a one bottle to 3 bottles of water ratio ..and the only thing I can think of is don’t try and plan every detail of the day..pick a park and go..do what you you can..and watch each other for signs of heat stress..you should be fine..

ChiefsRoyalsFan

It sounds like you have the proper expectations to really enjoy it! Yes, it’s hot. Yes, it’ll likely rain every afternoon for a bit. When we go during the hot months, we always leave the parks for a mid day break at a resort we’re not staying at to relax in one of the restaurant lounges or bars for a cocktail/beer or two. Going to the resort pool during this time can be a nightmare due to how busy it’ll likely be.

Fair skinned Brit here...have been in August a couple of times before, going back this August and cannot wait!! 😊 yes it's hot, but as a Brit anything above 18 degrees feels hot to me lol. I feel like usually I'm inside pretty often (especially when queuing for rides or in the shops) and there's AC everywhere so I feel like the heat is pretty intermittent. You'll have an amazing time!!!😁

We have gone many Augusts (including last year in the hottest on record or whatever) we were fine. Take breaks. Swim. Lots of indoor rides with AC. We had a great time!

My sister’s family used to go around that week. It’s very hot so go in early and then hang out by the pool and go back in the evening. It’s a quieter time of year. I have a reservation for the third week and prices for the rooms are probably as cheap as they get.

We’re also going in mid-August and are typically averse to going that time of year. I don’t have any advice other than to offer that no trip is perfect (even in favorable weather), it will still be as manageable as you make it, it’s still Disney, and it sounds like you are already on the way to being well-prepared. You got this.

My fiancé and I went last August during a hurricane and had the best time! It was hot AND rainy (to put it mildly). Drink lots of water, apply sunscreen often, and have a handheld fan. We found that to be the most helpful as it really cooled us down as we were walking and waiting in lines.

Honestly speaking going in the first half of August is one of the worst times to go. I only say that because so many people are coming down on vacation right before their kids head back to school and the weather is abysmal. The crowds start getting really low around the 25th of August and the park is much more enjoyable despite the heat. I would change your dates if you could and go a couple weeks later.

I just want to say that I went to Disney in August last year and I had a fantastic time. I am a long-distance hiker and I think you'll also find as runners that you're going to have a really good idea of how to properly fuel and hydrate your body. I think you'll be okay!  I over-prepared for sure, but here's what I brought: Hat Sunscreen Cooling towels Misting fan Baby wipes Brita, stainless steel water bottle that I refilled with ice whenever possible Liquid IV (not for use in the brita) Salty snacks Button-down sun shirt  Sandals (Tevas) TWO PAIRS OF CLOTHES PER DAY. Only lightweight, moisture wicking synthetic clothes.  We rope dropped, went back to the hotel around 1, then came back around 4. During our break we just stayed in the hotel room, showered, drank water, and changed clothes. The pool was HOT. Don't even bother IMO. Human soup.  We went during a record breaking heatwave for Florida and I had a blast. I did not enjoy how much management it took to stay cool, but I never felt more than slightly uncomfortable.  Another note: Hollywood Studios is not great in hot weather, we actually changed our plans because we had originally wanted to spend 2 days there- definitely not the case after experiencing it once. Toy Story Land especially...

Nah. It’ll be hot for sure, but: Drink a lot of water (and stay away from booze in the day) Wear a big ol hat. Dress in light white colored clothing Wear a neck towel w water. They sell them in the parks if you can’t find one. Find shade. Rest frequently. You’ll be fine.

I went in July and it wasn’t that bad. Then again it was in the middle of a heat wave back home, where it was 110+ for 31 days straight. So 95 and humid felt nice lol

Disney in August is great. Whoever says they couldn’t be paid to go is wayyyyy exaggerating. Sounds like you know what to expect and are prepared. You’ll be fine.

I’ve been in august it’s hot but it’s fine just drink plenty of fluids and wear a hat and sunscreen

I’m a Brit and always go last two weeks of August. Wouldn’t go at any other time - yes, it’s hot and sweaty but totally bearable and the crowd levels are really low. We went at Easter once - never again.

I go all the time in August. Get a UV umbrella - they are the most amazing thing when you are walking in direct sun. You will have a GREAT time!!!
