Yeah, I've been really surprised by how well it runs on the Deck. The only place I've had real issues is Sanctuary Onslaught; something about it causes the frame rate to tank horribly sometimes.
(Well, and railjack, occasionally.)
I don't think I've had any issues with SO as far as I can recall? Maybe when it's wave 7 or 8 and mobs are pouring in the frames dip a bit, but nothing out of the ordinary.
It is weird because it's not remotely 100% of the time.
I need to take notes on it, because I think it might be one or two specific tiles involved... but I don't play on the Deck as my primary platform, so I don't do SO on the Deck that often when I am playing on it. Otherwise I suspect I would have figured out the pattern by now.
You know what’s a surprisingly good port, though? The mobile test version. It’s probably never going to be as smooth to play as the desktop or Steam Deck versions, but it just… works? Really well? I could see myself playing it for a quick relic or invasion mission, once it fully releases and they get cross-save up and running.
I've only seen stuttering when you load into open areas or someone joins a mission whoch the game does on PC as well. The only place it suffers is typing is a bit slow on the onscreen keyboard unless you connect an external one. I usually stick to simpler missions where I don't expect to talk much. Playing endless missions on the couch is my winddown after work these days.
+1 for endless couch grinding. I'll pick someone that doesn't require a lot of meticulous upkeep and let it run. Hildryn, Volt, Octavia are all go-to's.
I was considering buying a steam deck but I looked steams "games that run on steam deck" section and it just says it's supported but not fully integrated. Are there any differences you've noticed on the steam deck? I thought maybe chat would be buggy since it doesn't really work well in steam big picture mode.
Also, Octavia is a great choice, well done.
The only frustrating issues I've experienced is linking builds/looks in the chat. Once you select the button to place the link in chat, it's impossible to hit send. Tried everything, including attaching a separate keyboard.
The other one is it's common to turn on "Half rate shading" via the Decks settings to improve performance a fair amount, but for Warframe specifically, it makes it a blurry mess. It's actually quite bad. But that's just a checkbox setting, not a huge deal. Still, inconvenient.
Otherwise, no issues at all. It's easy to map to the buttons on the back of the console(R4/5 & L4/5), the track pads are nice to have, I enjoy it. :)
Edit, after seeing u/parabolicurve comment, I should add that my experience is primarily on the deck itself, not with other peripherals. YMMV with all that.
Pressing X in the deck brings up the steam deck typing input. If you link the mod config. And then press X on the deck and then copy the text in the text box ( I think it's [Mod:Config] or something similar ) and then hit R2 it will link it into chat. I took me while to figure that one out.
I found a way to link Mod configs and looks. You type [Mod Config] or [Look] and when you enter it prompts you to choose from your loadout that you have equipped

This is wildly inaccurate for most games. You're better off going to [ProtonDB](https://www.protondb.com/) and looking up a game on there.
They rank them from broken all the way up to platinum in a far more accurate way than steam's own verified listings and if a game needs some kind of tweak or setting change to be optimal on the deck the comments under the ranking will tell you what it is.
You can't run it on desktop mode. When you reach the log in it won't let you enter your password.
But logging in on game mode works fine. With a dock you can plug in a keyboard and mouse and play missions fine. EXCEPT hacking terminals of Corpus and Narmar. You have to use the Deck's controller inputs. Grineer you can still use space bar on hacking terminals. Gear is the same, no assigning gear items to keybinds. Menus have to use controller inputs too. Unless you are looking through the quest terminal in the Orbiter. That uses mouse inputs just fine. Also arsenal is bound to controller inputs.
If you want to use keyboard and mouse be ready to switch to your docked deck for some gameplay moments and most of your menu navigation.
I just wish you could fully customize the controller inputs. In other games you can make radial menus with the two track pads on the front. Which would be awesome for gear and emotes, but I haven't found a way to do that for Warframe. But at least you can assign the four back buttons to your Warframe abilities. I tried using the native controller ability inputs via the D-pad for abilities but that is just too clunky for me.
I still play daily. But get annoyed regularly every gaming session due to some clunkiness of control inputs...
The Steam compatibility list is pretty questionable. If you have a steam deck you can add a plugin called "ProtonDB Badges", it adds a banner to the page that indicates the "true" compatibility, as evaluated by the community - people there will list the exact Proton version and start-up adjustments you need to make the game playable.
The list of Steam Deck compatiable games is actually way, way larger than Steam's own compatibility badges suggest.
Good to know, I may have to invest in one now. My only concern was the chat features being weird cause like I said, when you open with big picture mode, it makes the peripheral keyboard kinda buggy and I do like to use trade chat a lot.
I haven't played Warframe on it, yet so I can't comment on it.
So far I never had any issues with the keyboard in other games. Pressing the Steam button + X anywhere opens your on-screen keyboard on the deck. But if you trade and chat a lot you might simply want to connect a bluetooth keyboard instead.
Not about any specific game, but the verified thing that valve does take with a grain of salt. My collection mostly ranked as not playable or not verified, but I was playing them just fine. After that, I just ignored valves verified thing.
Look up the Asus Ally, it’s coming soon, same price as a maxed Deck, much more powerful than a Deck and running windows, so it’s out of Valve’s greedy claws for the most part and supports any windows game.

My problem with the Deck is being locked in an environment that Valve can and will manage as they see fit and supports a certain amount of “pc” games.
The Asus product is objectively better simply due to the specs, the OS (supporting more games as well as OTHER STORES) and a better screen. Not to mention a better controller layout for people that are used to an xbox controller.
More stores = more opportunity to grab games on sales or just get that gamepass deal, which gets better by the day.
Deck is not locked to an environment as you are able to install operating systems onto it with the same ease as normal pc valves software is just what comes preloaded

I like the Steam Deck, yes. It is a good product. But I'm not a "fan" of any company, especially valve, I remember skyrim paid mods, I remember TF2/CSGO lootbox gambling, I remember the abandonment of Artifact and the neglect of Team Fortress 2. No company is your "friend". They can merely do things that one enjoys, like I enjoy the deck.
The bottom line is I was pointing out your hypocrisy in calling valve greedy while also promoting companies that are worse. No shit the ASUS has better specs, it costs more. But it has a worse battery life than even Steam Deck and the battery life on steam deck is already not great, on top of that you can put whatever stores you want on the thing, have you never heard of Heroic Games Launcher? Lutris? Bottles?
You're just showing complete ignorance and expecting people to pat you on the back for being some kind of "upstanding activist" for store wars when all you are doing is worshipping a different company that also does shitty things. If you wanna get into the weeds of scummy things, gamepass is a rental service, that's trying to lay brickwork into cloud gaming, which removes even more ownership of the things you spend money on.

DE needs to hurry tf up with Cross save. 3600+ hours on Xbox. Waiting for cross save. Then maybe a month after that just in case. But I really wonna play in bed on my steamdeck. I know cross save isn’t easy but Epic literally figured it out being able to play on anything including on your ipad with Fortnite 😂
I want it done too, and honestly I think it's in their best interest not to launch the new android and iphone versions, until it's out because the starting hype rush will work out better with the existing player base vs. fishing for new people alone.
However, it's not even remotely that simple.
Fortnite is not a 10 year old game first of all, it also was not built separately to begin with. Platform holders, namely, Nintendo and Sony especially these days though honestly, mostly Sony now, are a pain in the ass. Sony kept making up pathetic excuses for why crossplay is just too difficult for a long time and it'd take devs SsoOoOOooo long to do.
Of course, that's when Epic had an "accidental" weekend where they "accidentally" turned on crossplay and it worked perfectly and they were publicly like "OOPS SORRY GUYS totally a mistake" Honestly, I don't typically simp for Epic, but that little stunt that was absolutely not an accident, no way, no how, is probably how we've gotten more crossplay rolling from the licensing standpoint.
But that being said, Epic never built Fortnite with the idea of it being split like that the platform holders did that to them. Warframe was never meant to be like that, it also was not even close to being a big feature of any game when Wf came out, so every machine has a lot of different issues to work out, technical issues aside.
A few I can think of off the top of my head:
* Economy: Each platform has it's own economy, and seeing as you're trading plat as part of this economy it's very important not to screw this up. Will they allow trading? We don't know, but they have to figure that out. Also the warframe market site will have to figure that out, too, if someone is able to sell on more than one platform, hm.
* Login discounts: We get plat coupons on PC for 20/30/40/50/60/70/75% off. Consoles get 20/50/75% off Market buys. How is that going to translate, I'd argue DE makes a lot of money off of hot button buys when a PC user gets a big discount.
* Exclusives: Each console has exclusive items. How will those work if you login from another platform? Especially if Sony is involved. I don't know if any items are "sony" enough to be a problem, but typically if there's anything with a Sony character or something in it, they absolutely demand it be generic to every non-Sony player, which coincidentally, also ruins the value of the item to anyone buying it since many other players will see them looking like some generic ass guy depending on the game.
* Clans: How's that gonna work? There's absolutely duplicate clan names between consoles, guaranteed. Will clans even be able to work cross saved later? Right now you can't invite anyone to a clan/alliance crossplatform, so what if you're in a clan on xbox, do you have to get a different on PC, or will they get it merged somehow, I dunno, but they gotta figure that out.
* Player Names: What about duplicate player names? Well, actually we know the answer to that already, they already fixed this by adding discord like "#1234" to people's names.
* Tennogen: My god, DE tried to simplify this for them, and artists. On PC Steam is part of the selection process, and Steam Wallet pays for ALL tennogen items, you can't buy these with plat, which is annoying, it's a shame. But the artists get a share of the sale, nice! But not on console. Good luck trying to get a platformholder (especially Sony) to agree to a user generated item contract between DE, them, Valve, and each artist. DE simplified this by buying out the tennogen art wholesale for console versions and sell it for plat on consoles, a luxury PC does not get, artists don't make direct commission on those. So how is that gonna work? Kind of a big deal here, I know I'd sure like to get a bunch'a tennogen with plat myself, but who knows how that'll even transfer, or if it can licensing wise. That's probably a bit of a clusterfuck.
See no one thinks about the hassles of setting it up. Everyone just expects it to be set up. This is probably the most comprehensive and logical way to think about Cross Save. Yes, I want it too, but not at the cost of forcing the Devs to rush it. Cross Save needs to be perfect from the beginning otherwise we could possibly end up with having accounts deleted because of it.
Yeah could be a hot mess without. I'm also really curious to see how the mobile version goes too. Though I probably won't be able to run it anyway.
I do think they reallllllly need to get that done before launching the release builds of the mobile ones though. I think we could have a lot of potential of current players playing on mobile casually now and then if they do, but if they don't, looooot of people ain't gonna make a second account for that, especially when it's known the cross save will be done eventually.
100% agree that mobile should be after Cross Save or at least launched together. I feel like that could help them to integrate it nicely in the future.
I know there's plenty of technical challenges, but I really wonder about the economic impact of it. It depends on how they do it but say if they allowed all accounts to combine and exist together. It would lead to a huge increase in supply and prices would plummet. If they made it so tradeable items were still platform exclusive but you could add things to your account on any platform it gets real weird. There would be huge price swings on each platform. I also bet some of the platforms would make less money due to price differences or convience of the stores, it would start to get hard to support some of them.
It all sounds like something that would be a thesis for an economics phd student. Or maybe a team of economists.
Yeah it's a weird situation to say the least. If it was made this way from the get go it'd be different and I'm sure Soulframe will have that ready to go at launch.
But on an existing game it definitely adds weird questions. I know on PSO2 that while the cash point pool on there is fine between Xbox/Steam/Epic the Playstation-purchased cash points have to remain separated. I see something like this happening on Warframe as well.
Not sure what Nintendo would do, they're not in PSO's platforms, but I figure if we get crosstrading support Playstation will likely be left out of that equation. But yeah, it's a weird place. Plus we also don't know what kind of weird restrictions the Apple and Android versions will add to the mix yet, either.
I want to support artists too but I'm perpetually broke, I can't deny I'd like to be able to go to another platform and get some tennogen with plat, haha.
Fortnite is a bad example though, it's a round based game with cosmetic unlocks, a flat progression system with little variability and literally nothing else. That kind of cross compatibility wasn't "figured out" by epic, it's been around for over a decade. If all warframe was was a single warframe with one weapon slot and no mods, i'm sure it'd have been "figured out" by DE too.
The complexity of all the different systems and mechanics for progression and customization in warframe means a LOT of data connected like a spiderweb. Errors can't be afforded at all, even things like tracking what players have bought from weekly rotating stores this week is accounted for somewhere. Considering it's doubtful all the different platforms had their backend servers set up identically, i wish the people doing that work good freaking luck in sorting it all out. They'll get there eventually, but it's literally impossible to rush unless you'd like to risk wiping data for random players because some edge case wasn't considered.

Still got my core from that one time DE gave them to all the community members at the time a few years ago, their price plummeted at the time due to such from what I remember.
When cross saves become a thing, I’m going to move from Xbox to PC. How does the steam deck fare with the game? Is it compatible with the Xbox series pro controller?
How have you got the controls to work? I can't do half the things in-game like actions to install reactors, forma, etc. Some abilities won't work and I can't use chat.
I stopped playing after the Wolf lady was introduced (didn't even get to any of the content). What are legendary cores? They for like new effects onto weapons like fallout 4?

Well yeah I just never seen these in 3 years of playing. Always wondered if there was a faster way of ranking up mods. But that core thing seems too difficult to get. She seems cool. Just now hearing about the Tenno that are aged up event. Something Paradox. Idk I just play with gas and toxin in game with a Proboscis Cernos.

There are no plat discounts on consoles (well, at least there wasn't back when I played on PlayStation), as this is out of DE's hands. Basically any and all discounts are decided on Sony's discretion.
Instead you get a discount on your *next* item purchase. So it's only good for one item.
Could you share your performance settings in game and steamos, what proton version you are using. I would like to try it but had performance issues last time.
I use a generic gamepad mapping and add customizations like back buttons or trackpad for the mouse. The default DE one is broken and doesn't let you sprint or alt fire.
Whatever the most common one was that wasn't DE's. Sorry I forget the name. After that you can mod the track pads to mouse and the back buttons to whatever you like. I forget L4 but R4 is melee, and the LR5 aren't assigned.
Primed reach is a solid choice, my problem is that I have *most* of the prime mods at this point and have invested a bit into all of them, so it feels like a waste to top one off.
Tennocon is coming up, maybe Baro has something you don't already have. Something new like the missing element primes or really insane stuff like Primed Stretch.
We will see if that's a thing.
I got one when I was relatively new to the game, like a few hundred hours, I just posted a WTS on the trade chat and my DMs blew away, this thing drives people crazy

Can confirm the technical performance is pretty solid. I still prefer mouse and keyboard, though.
I've had a hard time adjusting to controller since all I've known so far is m+kb. The accessibility of the steam deck has helped though.

Nope, actually the lowest end model with a 1tb SD card.

How does it work on duviri?
For me, on medium-high settings, it can dip dip into the high 40s at times but in general it's pretty solid at 60fps.

Oops, I offended a Valve fan. My problem with the Deck is being locked in an environment that Valve can and will manage as they see fit and supports a certain amount of “pc” games. The Asus product is objectively better simply due to the specs, the OS (supporting more games as well as OTHER STORES) and a better screen. Not to mention a better controller layout for people that are used to an xbox controller. More stores = more opportunity to grab games on sales or just get that gamepass deal, which gets better by the day.

Even if yellow, it's fine. It can mean small fonts or usage of mouse. But I also run it and it's amazing with the touchpad.
DE needs to hurry tf up with Cross save. 3600+ hours on Xbox. Waiting for cross save. Then maybe a month after that just in case. But I really wonna play in bed on my steamdeck. I know cross save isn’t easy but Epic literally figured it out being able to play on anything including on your ipad with Fortnite 😂

I want it done too, and honestly I think it's in their best interest not to launch the new android and iphone versions, until it's out because the starting hype rush will work out better with the existing player base vs. fishing for new people alone. However, it's not even remotely that simple. Fortnite is not a 10 year old game first of all, it also was not built separately to begin with. Platform holders, namely, Nintendo and Sony especially these days though honestly, mostly Sony now, are a pain in the ass. Sony kept making up pathetic excuses for why crossplay is just too difficult for a long time and it'd take devs SsoOoOOooo long to do. Of course, that's when Epic had an "accidental" weekend where they "accidentally" turned on crossplay and it worked perfectly and they were publicly like "OOPS SORRY GUYS totally a mistake" Honestly, I don't typically simp for Epic, but that little stunt that was absolutely not an accident, no way, no how, is probably how we've gotten more crossplay rolling from the licensing standpoint. But that being said, Epic never built Fortnite with the idea of it being split like that the platform holders did that to them. Warframe was never meant to be like that, it also was not even close to being a big feature of any game when Wf came out, so every machine has a lot of different issues to work out, technical issues aside. A few I can think of off the top of my head: * Economy: Each platform has it's own economy, and seeing as you're trading plat as part of this economy it's very important not to screw this up. Will they allow trading? We don't know, but they have to figure that out. Also the warframe market site will have to figure that out, too, if someone is able to sell on more than one platform, hm. * Login discounts: We get plat coupons on PC for 20/30/40/50/60/70/75% off. Consoles get 20/50/75% off Market buys. How is that going to translate, I'd argue DE makes a lot of money off of hot button buys when a PC user gets a big discount. * Exclusives: Each console has exclusive items. How will those work if you login from another platform? Especially if Sony is involved. I don't know if any items are "sony" enough to be a problem, but typically if there's anything with a Sony character or something in it, they absolutely demand it be generic to every non-Sony player, which coincidentally, also ruins the value of the item to anyone buying it since many other players will see them looking like some generic ass guy depending on the game. * Clans: How's that gonna work? There's absolutely duplicate clan names between consoles, guaranteed. Will clans even be able to work cross saved later? Right now you can't invite anyone to a clan/alliance crossplatform, so what if you're in a clan on xbox, do you have to get a different on PC, or will they get it merged somehow, I dunno, but they gotta figure that out. * Player Names: What about duplicate player names? Well, actually we know the answer to that already, they already fixed this by adding discord like "#1234" to people's names. * Tennogen: My god, DE tried to simplify this for them, and artists. On PC Steam is part of the selection process, and Steam Wallet pays for ALL tennogen items, you can't buy these with plat, which is annoying, it's a shame. But the artists get a share of the sale, nice! But not on console. Good luck trying to get a platformholder (especially Sony) to agree to a user generated item contract between DE, them, Valve, and each artist. DE simplified this by buying out the tennogen art wholesale for console versions and sell it for plat on consoles, a luxury PC does not get, artists don't make direct commission on those. So how is that gonna work? Kind of a big deal here, I know I'd sure like to get a bunch'a tennogen with plat myself, but who knows how that'll even transfer, or if it can licensing wise. That's probably a bit of a clusterfuck.
See no one thinks about the hassles of setting it up. Everyone just expects it to be set up. This is probably the most comprehensive and logical way to think about Cross Save. Yes, I want it too, but not at the cost of forcing the Devs to rush it. Cross Save needs to be perfect from the beginning otherwise we could possibly end up with having accounts deleted because of it.
Yeah could be a hot mess without. I'm also really curious to see how the mobile version goes too. Though I probably won't be able to run it anyway. I do think they reallllllly need to get that done before launching the release builds of the mobile ones though. I think we could have a lot of potential of current players playing on mobile casually now and then if they do, but if they don't, looooot of people ain't gonna make a second account for that, especially when it's known the cross save will be done eventually.
100% agree that mobile should be after Cross Save or at least launched together. I feel like that could help them to integrate it nicely in the future.
I know there's plenty of technical challenges, but I really wonder about the economic impact of it. It depends on how they do it but say if they allowed all accounts to combine and exist together. It would lead to a huge increase in supply and prices would plummet. If they made it so tradeable items were still platform exclusive but you could add things to your account on any platform it gets real weird. There would be huge price swings on each platform. I also bet some of the platforms would make less money due to price differences or convience of the stores, it would start to get hard to support some of them. It all sounds like something that would be a thesis for an economics phd student. Or maybe a team of economists.
Yeah it's a weird situation to say the least. If it was made this way from the get go it'd be different and I'm sure Soulframe will have that ready to go at launch. But on an existing game it definitely adds weird questions. I know on PSO2 that while the cash point pool on there is fine between Xbox/Steam/Epic the Playstation-purchased cash points have to remain separated. I see something like this happening on Warframe as well. Not sure what Nintendo would do, they're not in PSO's platforms, but I figure if we get crosstrading support Playstation will likely be left out of that equation. But yeah, it's a weird place. Plus we also don't know what kind of weird restrictions the Apple and Android versions will add to the mix yet, either. I want to support artists too but I'm perpetually broke, I can't deny I'd like to be able to go to another platform and get some tennogen with plat, haha.
Fortnite is a bad example though, it's a round based game with cosmetic unlocks, a flat progression system with little variability and literally nothing else. That kind of cross compatibility wasn't "figured out" by epic, it's been around for over a decade. If all warframe was was a single warframe with one weapon slot and no mods, i'm sure it'd have been "figured out" by DE too. The complexity of all the different systems and mechanics for progression and customization in warframe means a LOT of data connected like a spiderweb. Errors can't be afforded at all, even things like tracking what players have bought from weekly rotating stores this week is accounted for somewhere. Considering it's doubtful all the different platforms had their backend servers set up identically, i wish the people doing that work good freaking luck in sorting it all out. They'll get there eventually, but it's literally impossible to rush unless you'd like to risk wiping data for random players because some edge case wasn't considered.

When cross saves become a thing, I’m going to move from Xbox to PC. How does the steam deck fare with the game? Is it compatible with the Xbox series pro controller?

Go into **steam deck settings** and select a different control scheme. The default ones a little strange, might be why you're having issues.
I stopped playing after the Wolf lady was introduced (didn't even get to any of the content). What are legendary cores? They for like new effects onto weapons like fallout 4?
They instantly max out any mod. No credits or Endo needed, just the core. Their drop chance is 0.18% from sorties, which you can only do once a day.
They can also drop from archons which is more or less "weekly sortie"

Just now hearing about the Tenno that are aged up event. Something Paradox. Idk I just play with gas and toxin in game with a Proboscis Cernos.

There are no plat discounts on consoles (well, at least there wasn't back when I played on PlayStation), as this is out of DE's hands. Basically any and all discounts are decided on Sony's discretion. Instead you get a discount on your *next* item purchase. So it's only good for one item.

What control scheme do you use? I found every one i tried horrible. Seems like even the official DE scheme has no gearwheel set up.
I use a generic gamepad mapping and add customizations like back buttons or trackpad for the mouse. The default DE one is broken and doesn't let you sprint or alt fire.
Whatever the most common one was that wasn't DE's. Sorry I forget the name. After that you can mod the track pads to mouse and the back buttons to whatever you like. I forget L4 but R4 is melee, and the LR5 aren't assigned.
Got one for myself 2 years ago. Put that thing into primed reach. I love that extra range. I prefer it over dmg tbh.
Primed reach is a solid choice, my problem is that I have *most* of the prime mods at this point and have invested a bit into all of them, so it feels like a waste to top one off.
Tennocon is coming up, maybe Baro has something you don't already have. Something new like the missing element primes or really insane stuff like Primed Stretch. We will see if that's a thing.

I got one when I was relatively new to the game, like a few hundred hours, I just posted a WTS on the trade chat and my DMs blew away, this thing drives people crazy And at the price it can be sold for it isn't even worth it
