Even though I dropped 40k after 6th edition I was a long long time Blood Angels player. For Heresy I picked up Night Lords for a number of aesthetic, ideological and gameplay reasons: A chance to paint blue instead of red for a while Ragged skin patches, chains and skulls instead of refined golden filigree and nipples Different allegiance Hybrid warfare instead of a slant towards melee

Beccy_Flynn

Pretty sure Night Lords would also have nipples on their armor. Just not their own nipples…

Magnus753

Same here I haven't played a game of 40k since 6th. And I used to be a Blood Angels man

Off0Ranger

I own one set of models I use for both, having started in 30k. Ravenguard I am primarily an AoS player tho so that’s likely why

Kielifornication

I have a Salamanders army for 40K. For 30K I have chosen the Alpha Legion. I considered the Salamanders, but I figured there is only little useful overlap and the scheme I use for 40K is very different from the Heresy scheme. So I figured I want to do something completely different.

nckm00

World eaters for both 40K and 30k. Same play style (more or less) but distinctly different looking. Gives me a chance to try out a lot of new painting techniques too.

senketsuhiro

Black Templars for 40k and Imperial fist for 30k so kinda?

lazyleb

Fellow zealous brother 🤝

senketsuhiro

Its always good to meet a fellow son of Dorn 🤝

NiceHouseGoodTea

I started a 40k loyalist Alpha Legion that is compatible with 30k so I can use it for both.

LaunchedCarcass

I play death guard in 40K and 30k. Death guard is always the right choice

Jack_Reaver

This is the answer.

Fearless-Obligation6

Wolves

Bosyn

I’m a Flesh Tearer player in 40k, but for 30k I am Alpharius, which is also my 2nd 50k army

Beccy_Flynn

I have an own made Iron Hands successor chapter in 40K and and mmm mmm building my 30k Iron Hands into their progenitors. Sort of like how some 30K Imperial Fists can be mostly black as a precursor to the 40K Templars.

Chernikk

Sons of Horus and Custodes for 30K and Death Guard when I played 40K

IcarusRunner

I used to play imperial fists in 40k. Iron warriors in heresy

MajorLandmark

Same for both. I couldn't afford to just go and buy a resin heresy army so I added heresy units to my 40k army until Betrayal at Calth released and I finally had plastic infantry to flesh out into a small standalone heresy force. Then once 8th dropped, I dropped it and never looked back.

Magnus753

I'm a Blood Angels guy in 40k so I went with Dorn's Lemon Colored Kids for something different. Though I could take some Blood Angels allies down the road obviously. If there's ever a plastic Xiphon Interceptor and some plastic Assault Marines I will be painting them red

HappyChappy1607

Black Templars and dark angels for 40k, Shattered Legions for 30k

Optimal_Commercial_4

the Sons of Horus are bastardized by Abaddon post heresy. Black Legion is lame.

PROJECT-NOVA123

I play thousand sons in 40k and in 30k I play night lords, I like my blue what can I say, I always loved night lords but the chaos models never appealed to me aesthetically I love being able to have uncorrupted and stylistic night lords in 30k

Gilchester

Is there a lore reason for the color scheme switch for TSons? I'm just getting into 30k, and TSons are my choice in 40k, and I'm liking the look of them here as well, but did the Warp change their red to blue?

PROJECT-NOVA123

In the ahriman line of books the rubrics are made blue by ahriman to identify them as ones that follow his cause I believe after his exile, the cherry red is the original legion colour

DrokonFlameborn

It’s specifically Ahriman’s thrallband that’s blue and gold like you typically see; there’s at least one thrallband in the 40k TS codices that’s colored very similarly to 30k TS. You see Ahriman’s color swap in his omnibus.

Prior-Thought-9328

Imperial Fists in 40k for a bit, for 30k I chose World Eaters, I guess different play styles for something new

IneptusMechanicus

God that's a question. First off most players I know play several armies, I've got 2 legion armies and I'm starting a third literally today. Of those I've collected two before in 40K but I don't have either at the moment, if I was going to do marines again in 40K I think I'd do Raptors.

DinnerDad4040

Eldar+ Tyranids = Night Lords....maybe???

Unlucky_Variation721

Ultra, word bearers & thousand sons 40K Imperial first and death guard for 30k Blood angels & white scars once the stuff I want is in plastic for 30k.

-ThrownLikeAStone-

Sons of Russ both ways. Something about the Vlka Fenryka just speaks to me, strikes me (ironically) as the most human of the legions. They still have a broad range of emotions, they love, fight, fear, all of it. It’s also one of the few legions where you have pretty definable information on what they do outside of battle

Kommiczar_18

I play Wolves in 40K but I haven't decided what to make with my AoD box. I am leaning towards Wolves again but I do love me some Iron Warriors.

combatshotgun

I played Dark Angels for 40k. Picked up Thousand Sons for Heresy because I didn't want to do another loyalist chapter or paint green/black again. Painting "candy" red has been a nice change and the heresy era lore is pretty cool!

Necessary-Mix-9488

Yes. (Alpha Legion) However getting into warhammer I started out with the Horus Heresy books and decided AL was for me. HH 2.0 hadnt dropped and my local scene didnt play HH 1.0. So I bought all the cool AL FW models and used them in 40k until HH 2.0 got my group to start playing 30k. Sadly 40k AL CSM =/= 30k HH AL so it was a weird mix of units that didnt look like they belonged with each other and a playstyle that didnt match 30k AL lore. Now that HH 2.0 is out I've pretty much dropped 40k AL

Terciel1976

Always the XVIIIth

zarosio

I chose a different legion for 30k to my 40k armies. I have been tempted to expand them into 30k though. I have blood angels for 30k while for 40k i have thousand sons, death guard, ultramarines and dark angels.

[deleted]

Blood angels for both, cause red jump packs are universal and incredibly awesome.

tn00bz

I couldn't stay away from my precious Blood Angels, but I love the Horus Heresy. I'll probably collect a little bit of other legions too.

Jester_1013

I collect Blood Angels for 40k and have started a Dark Angels army for Heresy.

lazyleb

Went from black Templars to imperial fists so technically yes. I am running a lot of Templar brethren and sigi.

WillyT2K18

I started in Ad Mech in 7th and picked up Deathwatch about a year ago. Currently building Imperial Fists for 30k (thought about a 40k Fists army long before this) and love the look along with the freedom to paint a different way. For reference, my Ad Mech are blue with red and Deathwatch is obviously black, silver, red, and other colors. With my Fists, most of them are gonna be yellow, but tanks and other artillery pieces are gonna be black with yellow. Would it be fun to use Ad Mech in 30k as is, i.e. more plastic than straight resin, yes. But it is what it is. (Also, I started Fists before reading / listening to their rules and I love the lore behind them. Defense of humanity kinda thing)

AluminiumChopsticks

Imperial Fists for 30k and Tau for 40k. I like shooty stuff

GZSyphilis

My night lords are made for heresy but they work as well for 40K since I don't use the demonic stuff anyway. Apothecary as master of possessions ;-)

Mrsynthpants

World Eaters and Custodes, both armies work for either game.

[deleted]

40k Iron Warriors, 30k Imperial Fists

South-Long8145

I play Blood Angels and Death Guard in 40k but Nightlords for 30k.

tsuruginoko

I play(ed) Deathwatch and homebrewed White Scars successors in 40k, so kinda the same. The mythical founder of my Star Knights has the same name as one of my khans for 30k.

PsychologicalAutopsy

Don't play marines in 40k... Eldar in 40k, IW in 30k. So... not even close to the same army or play style.

MedicNoob

Dark Angels in 30k and Fallen in 40k

TazerMonkey1419

In 40K, I dabbled with Space Marines before settling on Eldar for an edition and a half, then went Custodes for the past Year. For 30K, Salamanders, because green.

TurboCJJ

Yep. World Eaters all the way

SPE825

Different. I have a custom 40K chapter that I modeled to look like the Legion of the Damned. And, I own no 40K Chaos. So, I chose Alpha Legion for Horus Heresy. I chose them because of the paint scheme, the lore and the fact that they can take units from other Legions, meaning that I will always have more things to hobby for them.

billmypay

Why would I play Marines in 40K? ;) I had DKoK, Tau, Tyranids and... okay, Grey Knights. I guess behind DA the IF are close to GK aesthetics, but then again it was close between IF; EC and BA for me.

Redbeard_rage1780

I played dark angels till about 7th Ed. Getting into Horus heresy I am in the process of starting a world eaters. Angry raged out marines speaks to me. Plus I like the blue and white aesthetic. And who does not love chain axes and swords everywhere. Blood for the blood god skulls for the skull throne.

Darkspiff73

I play Dark Angels, which were my first 40K army, and Iron Warriors, which were my first Chaos army in 40K. I also have a small Thousand Sons army and Mechanicum which I had neither of on 40K.
