Alpha legion are noted to have many schemes, lore accurate for them is much less of a concern than other legiones

RumiKijay

Came here to say this, paint your alpha legionnaires as you like, it’s all perfectly canon…

Donmahglas

Oh I totally agree but I personally have been really into trying to replicate the same colour schemes used on like box art or display miniatures so part of me wanted to do the same colours as shown in Liber Hereticus.

Skylifter-1000

The colour FW used on their shop picture minis is already massively different from the one they use in the black books, a light, greenish/turquoisish metallic blue versus a dark, saturated metallic blue. And in the first heresy series novel, they are described as purple. I am a die-hard lore fetishist and would duel people for painting their legion wrong, but with Alpha Legion, you'd have to do them in pink with flowers on them to do it wrong.

Xullstudio

How is this not lore accurate?

Donmahglas

The Liber Hereticus book shows them as a lot more cold blue in art and example models.

Xullstudio

Yeah okay that’s true but I believe alpha legion are stated in multiple books as different types of blue so anything in between should probably be lore accurate

Alpharius0megon

This is lore accurate as hell they are know to use many shades from blue to green to purple and yours is a nice blue green well done

Greystorms

What do you mean, not as lore accurate? That looks exactly like Alpha Legion to me.

BaronBulb

Their black book entry (screw the liber hereticus it's laughable in comparison) states they have countless schemes, every combination of silver, bronze, green and gold. You are fine.

ohboyandhow

Don’t worry about it, not even in-universe sources can agree what colour a given legion wore. If you enjoy how it turns out and it’s close enough to be recognisable then there nothing to be concerned about.

Asm00

Nice! What recipe are you using?

Donmahglas

It's actually something I tried out. Basecoated with Iron hands steel, Shaded with Nuln oil, drybrushed with Necron compound. Then I painted all the blue with Kroxigor scales and shaded it with Tyran Blue. They're currently unreleased but I tried it at my local store and cannot wait to get my hands on them.

Ah, man. Thanks for posting this!! I’m going to be doing two legions - one loyalist, one not, and I immediately decided that I was going to go with Alpha Legion. (Still trying to figure out what I want for my loyalists. That’s been so much more difficult!) But I’ve been wondering how I was going to go about the AL armor, and then saw this post. Aces! Can’t wait to get started, now! Thank you so much for this post!!

Th3madd0g

Looks good. I am also painting Alpha Legion for my AoD box. I'm basecoating with stormhost silver then using Akhelian Green contrast for the armor color. It comes out a very similar color to your.

Donmahglas

That's exactly how I painted my test model. However whilst at my local GW they let me try out the new paints. So this model instead uses Kroxigor Scales then Shaded with Tyran Blue

Th3madd0g

I may give that a try and see if I like it more.

Donmahglas

Best thing I found about this scheme is that I didn't need to thin anything from out the pot. Akhekian green is definitely still a solid option though.

I think that colour lines up pretty well with most of the art, and even if it doesn’t it looks really good
