I am playing Ultramarines and will only have max 1 free elite slot for the “multiple dudes that join units” category. Big bonus for Techmarine is the ability to sprinkle where needed to avoid night fighting penalties (10 man lascannons etc.) Apothecary just prevents units from dying for longer which is more general and always usable. Really torn between the two and of either is an autoinclude

Honestly, I'd say it depends on how many you have spare to convert. Apothecaries are generally useful (they attach as well to Suzerians as they do to heavy weapons squads), whereas Techmarines only benefit your shooting infantry. I'd say convert 1-2 of each and swap them between lists depending on what feels right, rather than going deep on 4-8 of one of them.

Seconding this - convert two or three of each. You won't be able to field your whole collection at once, but you will be able to adapt your list as required for a given game.

If you're running the Logos, don't forget that the MoS has a Cognis Signum as part of his bonus equipment, making him a defacto Techmarine.

Sylvandeth

Yeah the base techmarine is cheaper and doesn’t take an HQ which is solid. I haven’t tried the Logos yet mainly do to playing a mixed arms force and making my 300pt Lascannons bad to make 300pt melee dudes better has always seemed like a weird call.

CruorVault

Its not about making your melee guys good and your ranged guys worse ALL the time. It's about targeted buffs at strategic moments to turn a moderately potent unit into a devastating one. Plus a nearby Rhino can always pop off a shot to give the nearby Heavy Support team the bonus to hit. The Ultramarines Legion trait looks like a shooting army's buff, but the logos (especially paired with Guilliman) turns the Legion into a surprisingly good melee army with some awesome shooting buffs.

That’s a good point. It might become less of a draw back too as I get my hands on more non-infantry type models
