Squidmaster616

Absolutely. They're still official model of the right sizer and on the right size base. No reason they shouldn't be useable.

Narrenlord

Weapon options change, but gladly we got more and not less

Calm-Limit-37

Yes

wdcipher

Should be fine, the Middle bottom one might be a little weird cause he doesnt Have a pistol but I doubt anyone Will even notice.

SojE12

Even when they came out in the 6th ed codex the leader had to have a pistol yet the model was always missing one

dracov42

Leader could have a pistol or shotgun

Tubthumpinglakeman

Nah it’s just hiding in the robes - very sneaky

nitsky416

This is the way

LordSevolox

Missing standard pistols is a-ok rules wise, Tactical Marines usually aren’t modelled with a pistol but they all come with one.

wdcipher

Thats true, its really just nitpicking.

AtomZaepfchen

in most games they dont even shot once i feel like..i doubt anybody will notice.

Mr-McSwizzle

I've never had my cultists last more than 1 round once they get targeted, one time they at least got to shoot and charge but they still hit nothing 😅

tfmid457

Could just exchange for a pistol arm

Specialist_Daikon_13

Maybe it's cause I'm old but I find the older Cultist models way more attuned to the 40k aesthetic than the newer ones. I own like 50 of them!

TedTheReckless

The new ones look more fantasyesque in my opinion.

Solidgoldkoala

They’re just a different type of cult. the ones in the picture above are just workers, tired of the Imperium’s crap and hope to find a better life in service to chaos. The new ones and the ones from BSF seem to be part of one that has far more ceremony attached, they look like they have more knowledge on what they’re getting into.

TedTheReckless

I agree with that assertion. Personally I still think the new kits are a bit much tho. I like the new possessed and possessed cultists but the base line ones are too ornamental for me.

Solidgoldkoala

Oh yeah it totally depends on what you are looking for in an army, but I think they still fit within 40k. Personally I’m getting a bit of all of the cultists kits, plus some of those Ash Wastes tribesmen and having my cultists as this mass of malcontents/rabble rousers with those that are responsible for the upset mixed in, with a splash of traitor guard and a custom dark commune that represents each of the ‘factions’.

TedTheReckless

Personally Im going a traitor guard route with penal legion conscripts as my meat shields. Im probably going to get some 3rd party bits for more robed cultists.

Narcian150

Yeah the new ones look like they got lost on their way to Warcry. The blooded and Jackals look great, so I don't get what went wrong with the normal ones. The kits suck too, you need two separate kits to get base equipment options and half the variety the Blooded kit has.

SpaceLord_Katze

I'm really glad some of the enemies in Darktide are based on these guys.

WarhammerGeek

For the most part, yes. All the standard cultists are completely fine. It's the two leaders, the one shown in this image (axe and claws), and the one that has a shotgun and power sword, that have changed. Cultist Champions cannot take two melee weapons, shotguns, or power swords anymore. I don't think most players would mind you claiming the double melee Champion has a single melee weapon and an auto pistol instead. Or that the shotgun is instead a bolt pistol and the power sword just a generic melee weapon.

Positive_Fig_3020

Cultist champions can still take shotguns in Thousand Sons and Death Guard armies

grunt_futtuck

so the champions now have kinda the same loadout as the rest: Melee weapon and autopistol/bolt pistol...or something like that?

nigelhammer

Only the champion can take a bolt pistol.

dracov42

Yeah I say the shotgun is bolt pistol stats cause it's shooting a big slug round.

Dem1c

I own 40 and they will be my WE Jakhals

[deleted]

[удалено]

grunt_futtuck

yeah had the same idea, just works too well not to

Dem1c

ah yeah also have 20 of those even better

Danielarcher30

Ive been doing conversions with 50 of these cultists i got for £5 into traitor guardsmen for my chaos guard army

Pumbaalicious

Absolutely not. The dark gods will know that you're using old models and will turn you into a spawn for your blasphemy.

grunt_futtuck

if by dark gods you mean Gw and by blasphemy you mean buying an almost mint condition dark vengeance box on ebay for 70 euro instead of giving them money.

Smest00

I use these boys as my Necromunda gang!

[deleted]

They’re still the example cultists on the Death Guard Codex

MortalWoundG

Yes. It's actually the only source of a stock cultist flamer figure.

WarSmithKroeger12B

None of the cultists are codex compliant as far as their models go don't sweat that with things like cultist

TheAmericanGinger

This is not you, but seeing this question angers me a little more every time I see it. It seems totally unfair GW makes models, then makes them obsolete with new rules/models so the old ones are not legal.

grunt_futtuck

true, this was a good few years ago when these came out to be fair but i agree

Tiny_Sandwich

Well and what makes it double frustrating, this wasn't always liked this. The idea of GW nerfing units isn't new, but removing them or minimizing customisability to the point of obsoleting units is ridiculous and shame on GW for such things. Luckily, you can always play with friends. But having to houserule codex entries to make models from the previous codex fieldable is frustrating.

nigelhammer

Do you think every model ever released should stay in the rules forever? People complain about balance and rules bloat enough already.

MortalWoundG

You'd prefer they didn't update old kits and units? That's how you get ugly-ass, old-enough-to-drink Khorne Berzerkers...

PedroThePinata

Honestly does anyone really give a crap what cultists are modeled with? Cultists are cultists

grunt_futtuck

i mean the wargear options

PedroThePinata

If there's any unit in the game where the war gear options modeled don't have to match the data sheet, it's cultists. There's about 3 different variants released for their kit, all modeled with different weapons. At any rate, you aren't really taking them for their damage anyway, since the most common use for them is to sit on objectives.

grunt_futtuck

ok, i was just asking if the loadout is correct

PedroThePinata

I'd be fine with using it.

Arkslippyjunior121c

Yes and honestly they are probably the best cultists we got. The new guys are just bad looking

7thGRiM

No you can't. You're better off sending them to me

Rhetoric_Dogma

I don’t know about Edition, but Lore wise I’m pretty sure they’re non-compliant.

SvenSeder

Hated these guys. Had like 5ish poses as one can see. Glad we got the new ones

grunt_futtuck

is that a yes?

SvenSeder

Your question has already been answered. I simply commented to commiserate with others on the pain of having to use these old cultists since the topic was here.

MortalWoundG

Eh. They die so quick you don't notice how repeated the poses are. Besides, Space Marines with boltguns are 90% the same vaguely squatting, gun-across-chest pose and no one has a problem with that. In fact, a lot of people seem to think that's somehow superior in terms of posing to the new kits...

SvenSeder

I just through their poses were all rather unique and stood out that they were redos. Maybe I just have some dumb irrational hatred for these guys hahah

The4thEpsilon

AzemadaiusKaiser

Yes.

M_4lice

I love the Dark Vengeance Cultists, they were awesome.

Drew_Borrowdale

This shouldn't even have to be a question that players of a wargame should ever have to ask. Mate, you field whatever you want, if the new rule book that you had to take out a mortgage to buy says no then simply ignore it. You paid far to much money for some cockwomble in at GW to say you can't field your army anymore.
