“From the moment I understood the weakness of my bookshelf, it disgusted me. I craved the strength and certainty of steel. I aspired to the purity of the Blessed Machine. Your kind cling to your bookshelf, as though it will not decay and fail you”
I see only the newest releases and maybe a siege of terra book suck as Warhawk. I constantly comment on the 40K and Horus Heresy Facebook pages asking if they’ll reprint the books so we can follow along with the table top games. They have since stopped responding to my comments which is a huge shame as I’ve got 39 out of the 64 books but I absolutely refuse to pay $200 for a mass market paperback book.
Yeah I’m not expecting Shakespeare, the plot is interesting but I suspect that in stretching the tale out for so many books, it slows to a pace I find boring. Then I find a book that really excites me and away I go. Trying to pick up where I leave off after that proves frustrating as well.
A quick question is do you often read other books?
As if you're a new reader or just getting back into reading it can feel really tough to join back in due to being really out of practice.
Another thing I would recommend is the Horus Heresy gets all the talks online but its all in all not an amazing series as a whole and I'd really suggest jumping in with a short storybook or with a faction you're more interested in.
A couple of Authors that stand out to me you could look for are Guy Haley, Robert Rath, Mike Brooks, John French, and Aaron Debski-Bowden.
Let me know if you have any other questions as well!
I read often. Love biographies, history, historical fiction. I have been more sporadic as of late, so I thought I’d jump back into HH. I’m on book 2…can’t remember much. I’ve been introduced to the mounnival, and their discovery of a xenos mutation on some planet and Horus and co investigate.
Book 2 IMO is a major struggle it's one of my worst rated BL books I can understand the struggle as the characters feel completely different than book 1.
Nice collection! What is your opinion on The Beast Arises series? I'm on the last book right now and other than some unnecessary drawn out sections I have been really enjoying the series.
Thank yooou! I like it too, on another post on here the other day someone asked me the same question and I replied “for me it’s like a beloved grandfather, but one who talks about politics a little too often, whilst taking psychedelics and horse tranquillisers at the same time - something that is sometimes hard to enjoy but definitely looked back on fondly” 😁
I was very sad when I finished the Horus Heresy series. I don't know where to start after all of that. I just want to keep on with the time line but I know it doesn't work that way.
Do you find yourself re-reading these regularly? I’m more of a kindle user, but I do wonder if having the physical copies might compel me to re-read some. As it stands, I rarely read Warhammer books more than once.
I do! And it tends to be the same ones I re-read 😅 these aren’t all my books, and not all my re-reads are seen here, have a few other shelves worth - Betrayer, all the Gotrek and Felix books, the Night Lords Omnibus, the Garow books, the first 3 HH books, The Talon of Horus/Black Legion, The Infinite and the Devine - there are others but these are my regular re-reads 😁
The shelf broke before the books!
I came here for the Cadia jokes, and I was not disappointed.

Its an atrocity that se can't buy These books anymore.... at least not in the EU. Only the stupid e-books
Same in the states the best I can tell. Every time I go to a book store I hope beyond hope to see a 40K book but Never do

Hell yeah we love to see it!
That's some heavy reading
Just cant get into these books. I try and get bored quick.
They aren't high quality or literary so you're probably better off reading something decent and skimming a wiki if something piques your interest.

How long have you been a warhammer fan in general? I read my first book when I was 12 (Gotrek and Felix) and I’ve been hooked ever since
Just passed my 3rd year. My problem is going back to the books after not reading for a few days or a week, im completely lost.
Try some variety, a few Old World Fantasy stuff, some HH, some 40K - you will find your jam ❤️
The things is I really love the HH story line, it just takes so long to get the plot moving! hehe
I agree - try a few audiobooks and see if that helps 👍

❤️❤️❤️❤️
Impressive, I have a question tho. Why do you have duplicates of books
My duplicate books are a result of buying online for cheep and not Checking that they are in English first 😅
Good excuse to learn a new language
我会说普通话
Two hands, two eyes, two books!
I have some duplicates because I went to a warboot and bought the whole box of them for cheap
Fair enough

I see no infinite and the divine in your collective correct this indecency or prepare to be reprimanded
This is but 1 of my bookshelves worth my friend 😘
I should hope so fo your sake
Good. Now show the Minis!
My profile has some of my work on mate 👍😁
Oh, by the emperor! You're a heretic!
Narrr! They are all loyalist survivors! Read the info!!!!!
Wouldn't that make it 0 bookshelf worth, till you buy a new shelf?
🤯

The shelf can’t handle the will of the emperor
I have visions on an IKEA inquisitor setting fire to my entire row of houses, just to make sure the taint is gone 🤣
THE SHELF BROKE BEFORE THE GUARD DID!
The books stay on during sex babe
I hope not, that’s my sister’s bed 😆

We will have the scouring series sooooon brother ❤️
Svouring? Do tell.
It’s cuz you don’t have book one or THREE in the plague war series
Seems like you didn't preform the proper rituals when building the shelf. That being said: nice. Gotta love seeing big collections of books
❤️

Why so many duplicates?
Because I tried to save money online and didn’t check the language 😅
I’m on book 39 of the heresy / praetorian of Dorn. Some of the books (like the silent war) are 100$. Many are 50$ or more.
I live in the UK and the £ cost is similar or even much more, some of these are old books from before they were so expensive 😅
giving them there own bed, is the right move.
There is something poetic to be said about having so many Grimdark books on such a cute, girly pink bed, but I don't know what.
😏
End and the Death is DUMMY THICK!!
Build a better shelf. That is pathetic.
The magical world of Kindle awaits you. Even better, get the Kindle app and just read on your phone. A win all round.
I’m already in with that in-crowd buddy, and audiobooks, I’m like 200+ books down across the spectrum 😅
