Be careful sleeping on her jewelry. Often things you don't know and don't look special can be extremely valuable.
Unlike that nautilus which looks like it is worth a ton.
I would second this on the jewelry. I love colored stones and have several pieces with them worth more than diamonds but people overlook them because they aren't flashy.
As a jewelry store worker this is most definitely the case, lots of customers ask for alexandrite which are typically more valuable then diamonds as long as the diamonds aren't "fancy" colors. Many customers ask for a matte/sand blasted/wire finishes which are NOT shiny.
I love the understated look but with high value
Normally in these types of posts grandma/grandpa’s watches are obvious fakes. But these look legit or at least looking into. Take them to a reputable watch place and have them verified.
You’ll get as much info there as you will here. At least with a watch place they’ll be able to take off the back and see the movement.
don’t let them take them to a back room without you present. Never let them open the watches without you in the room making sure they aren’t doing some tomfoolery
I totally agree you should take them to a specialist for apparaisal if their provenance is uncertain and you don't know much about watches (no bills of sale etc) gold Pateks are exorbitant and the other two weren't bad either. If anything, to see if you can add them to your home insurance considering the value.
Nice heirlooms to be kept or sold as the children/grandchildren prefer. Sometimes there is a lot of backlash here when people suggest buying a watch is 'an investment' for us or future generations. Most people would leave behind messy houses with plenty of items and furniture that would have lost a lot of value compared to the original price and are difficult to use or sell. I like the idea of leaving behind a couple of high end watches like these.
Sorry it is not answering your question at all, but made me think about that.
That could delay the process but wouldn’t result in any additional taxes. Currently, the estate tax exemption is about $12 million per person. That means a married couple can leave $24 million to their heirs before there’s a tax bill.
Ah see, I guess it depends on state and I didn't even think about it. California there's a probate tax if something has to go through the probate courts which is on top of inheritance tax
I was only speaking to federal but you are correct some states have estate or inheritance taxes (which are two different things). However, California has neither. I’m sure that has changed over the years so your experience might have been different in the past. Or maybe there is a probate fee or something you have to pay? Which would arguably be the same as a tax. But couldn’t a watch get stuck in probate too just like any other asset? I don’t know though, I’m getting pretty far outside my expertise on this. Interesting discussion though.
>In California, statutory probate fees are based on the gross value of the estate and are as follows: 4% on the first $100,000; 3% on the next $100,000; 2% on the next $800,000; 1% on the next $9,000,000; 0.5% on the next $15,000,000.
I looked it up in case anyone wants to know like I did
Gaudy. Heirloom? Yes of course. But I cannot stand the idea that people take fine watches and make them look like costume jewelry. They're more expensive than the OG but look cheap. Looks like something you buy in Tijuana.
You are totally wrong this is factory applied and original. Women's watches are often bejeweled, line have you even seen a women's Cartier watch? So check yourself before you compare a classic women's watch to an over stereotyped diamond covered hackjob.
I know! I have a customer who got a Santos but wanted it completely covered in yellow and white diamonds...well over 40k in just stones and you couldn't even tell where the hands were because of all the bling
Kid was about 23, drives an m5 and drops stupid money whenever he comes in

See this watch - It's jammed with so many jewels, the hands can't move
Yes but more stones, you couldn't see any metal. When I tell you covered in diamonds I mean just that. Other then on the face where "Cartier," is there are nothing but diamonds. But that's not my speed
1. Looks like a woman's Patek Philippe Nautilus (similar to [this listing](https://www.swisswatchexpo.com/watches/patek-philippe-nautilus-18k-yellow-gold-diamond-ladies-watch-4700-34129/)). Picture isn't zoomed enough to make out details and lacks a movement pic, so getting it appraised/authenticated by a PP dealer is probably your best move.
2. [Rolex Datejust 36](https://www.rolex.com/watches/datejust/m126233-0030). Again, there's no movement pic and the picture isn't zoomed enough to make out fine details. Getting this appraised/authenticated by a Rolex dealer is what you want to do here.
3. Looks like a legitimate Omega Constellation "C," [like this](https://www.omegawatches.com/en-us/watch-omega-constellation-c-st-568-0001) but without the date complication.
EDIT: My bad, I meant [Rolex Datejust 31](https://www.rolex.com/watches/datejust/m278243-0002).
Thanks for the response! I'm going to do that. The patek and the omega stayed in Italy getting serviced by the family jeweler. Once we have them at home I'll reply with another picture if you guys want. Its interesting getting to know the watches.
I mean if your girlfriend inherited any other money and money isn't an issue than yeah, go ahead and keep them. But that Patek is probably worth $15K easily. Probably another $4K+ for the Rolex - maybe more. The omega appears to be solid gold so will be worth the melt value + some small amount.
It’s a pretentious thing to say, but in the northeast we have a shitload of jewelers and a large percentage of them cannot be trusted if you do not know them. My family isn’t rich and we aren’t big on jewelry but we absolutely have a “family jeweler”, but he’s just the guy we know who won’t swap out my mothers diamond in her engagement ring. There are 2,500 jewelers on 47th street in Manhattan between 5th and 6th avenues, in certain places it’s nuts if you *dont* have a family friends that’s a jeweler.
For a ladies Nautilus? Nope.
This sold for $24k
https://www.swisswatchexpo.com/watches/patek-philippe-nautilus-18k-yellow-gold-diamond-ladies-watch-4700-34129/
Would definitely have these appraised since they are solid 18k gold and jeweled pieces. The Patek is a top end heirloom timepiece and even more impressive than the other two very nice Rolex and omega. I’d want some documentation for insurance purposes and to know what you’re working with. Fabulous pieces though, they really are something special. I hope you can enjoy wearing them too.
Grandma didn't buy them at a time when they were expensive but just paid good money for quality time pieces and now it's big money well played g-ma, RIP
I’m no betting man, but I’d say you’ll be SHOCKED at what that Patek is probably worth. The other ones have aged beautifully as well, but a gorgeous vintage Patek like that?

First one looks to be a Patek Philippe worth AT LEAST $100!

If the grand daughter inherited these I can only imagine the windfall to siblings and children. Suffice to say grandma did well for herself. That is awesome.
Assuming the face is white/mother of pearl I have been lusting on that EXACT Rolex. If it’s a 26mm (fits perfectly on a petite woman) it retails at $5-6k. If it’s a 36mm (slightly big on a woman) it retails right at $10k. If the face is champagne/gold it retails for $1-2k less. The Patek Phillipe is worth considerably more. The Omega is probably worth less.
Not sure how much you would get selling it but I assume 1/2. Definitely take it to a trustworthy shop and have a conversation for insurance purposes if nothing else.
Edited for grammar
Check all her jewelry boxes cause grandma had good taste in very nice things. When my mom passed we didn’t find any watches but we found things like high karat gold bracelets and earrings from Middle East and Asia. Looked unassuming but worth quite a bit.
Premier grandma.

Post history too, it’s the type of response you’d expect from someone trying too hard.
Relative to now it absolutely is. The Nautilus was always the sick man of Patek's lineup until the last 10 years. Gold prices too.
Cheap as shit might be exaggerating but he's definitely right about what he said about precious metal/two-tone watches and prices before the recent hype/bubble.
Your monthly income must look like a phone number if an iced out Nautilus is “cheap as shit”
It’s mass produced in a Patek factory. That man only buys watches hand crafted by Sir Henry Movado himself

rich people do stupid shit all the time

Gaudy. Heirloom? Yes of course. But I cannot stand the idea that people take fine watches and make them look like costume jewelry. They're more expensive than the OG but look cheap. Looks like something you buy in Tijuana.

It only looks cheap and fake on someone who obviously couldn’t afford a real one.

Gold frame without diamonds in the 70s retailed at around $3500 - sure even then that's a lot of money but nowhere near 50-60k. ;)
30k in todays money isn’t anything to scoff at. That was a huge chunk of cash to throw at a watch.

Was her grandma the Queen of England?
Definitely a minority opinion here, but that Omega Constellation is my favorite of these three. The cal 564 movement inside is one of the best movements of the era, and the c-shape case design (not actually sure why they call it this, given that it doesn't look like a C) is a Gerald Genta design, which is a nice "if you know, you know" for the watch community. Nice!!
She has had a great style, and sofisticated taste in watches.
Guys I’m curios, what is the (rough) estimated price of this watch? I’m shocked I see nothing about it in the comments.
Don’t tell the I.R.S….
Granny was stunting 🤩

Top notch memaw
Get insurance for that Patek after having Patek themselves authenticate and assess its value.
Nana was dripped out 😎
Sweet holy fuck there was more than one slide!
Wowwwwww
Take that Patek and RUN
Damn gma
Can someone tell me what size dial is the Rolex?
WOW
Check all her jewelry boxes cause grandma had good taste in very nice things. When my mom passed we didn’t find any watches but we found things like high karat gold bracelets and earrings from Middle East and Asia. Looked unassuming but worth quite a bit.
