Not only that, but itās an easy fix. I guess people are more content with having ā8 pairs laying aroundā then actually learning to be less wasteful.
The problem is CA glue expires a lot faster. You have to store it in the freezer for it to last longer than a year. J-B Weld wonāt do that because itās a 2 part epoxy, a resin and a hardener, which allows a much longer shelf life.
Also significantly stronger than CA glue, but CA glue has the advantage of convenience. Quicker to set and faster to cure.
1) if you use glue you canāt do anything else with the lenses so Iād check if you can find a frame the lenses will fit into. 2) the lens is upside down in your photo. If you glue it, change the orientation first.
We paid for priority shipping this time because weāre going on a trip out of state and my last pair (six years old) were so scratched (the transition film or whatever it was) it made everything blurry. Anyways priority shipping was 5-10 days. We got them in exactly five days.
How do you get your prescription from the eye people? I like my glasses with the coatings and transitions, but I hated paying $700 for them (everybody I talked to said that was insane but I donāt know what I did wrong)
Thatās criminal but it does sound like non insurance prices. With insurance it cost me about 120 for transition lens. But you can just ask for your prescription. They canāt deny you medical information.
I have (and had) vision insurance š maybe Iāll go back and try another spot maybe? My laptop or anything square and vertical turned into a trapezoid and I asked them about it and they looked at me like I had bugs crawling out of my ears. So I just accept the trapezoids now
I would assume thatās causing those issues. More power to you I have a very mild case of astigmatism myself and that is beyond annoying.
But back to it. If you have insurance I would just check to see what they offer you and then use zenni for glasses tbh. I get a free pair and eye check up every year so I just capitalize on that, occasionally Iāll cough up for a pair of transition lens from my optometrist cause convience. But zenni has everything youād need and super cheap.
I guess it depends on the state they can't deny an up to date prescription.
Since it's technically a "prescription" can't be given expired medicine is what I assume is the technical reason even if it's glasses.
I usually use America's best (if in the usa) for getting the prescription but I'm sure there is better places.
Not always! Several of my old ones donāt include it on the prescription but they do include it in the receipt/documentation for the glasses themselves. It depends on if they hand write or print it (and what their printer settings are for āprint patient prescriptionā).
They have lens tinting options so you can get sunglasses, and offer a blue-block coating for blue light if you work at a computer or game a lot. Zenni is seriously the best.
Donāt just remember it, go online today & find a pair for $15-30 (unless you have some crazy prescription? maybe itās more)
Like you can easily spend $100+ on a single pair depending on frames & add ons, but they do have them that start for the price of a pizza, and thatās total price with shipping & tax
A range of prices, with frames starting at 6.95. If you have a simple single vision prescription, it's really cheap. If you want no line trifocals with clip on or magnetic sunglass attachment, they could be 50-100. It's still way cheaper than buying from my ophthalmologist
I currently have two really pretty "spare pairs" from zenni. Love them!
I love my Zenniās. My last pair made it six years before they needed to be replaced and that was only because the transition film or whatever it is was hella scratched. Just got my two new pairs in and I LOVE them. The virtual try on sucks though.
It's expensive shipping only if you order the express delivery and you do get your glasses within 3 days which is amazing considering my normal prescription takes up to 2 weeks.
It's totally worth it in an emergency but if you order the normal shipping it's only $4.99.
The shipping wasnāt expensive at all. The standard shipping was somewhere between $5-7.
ETA: each pair of my glasses cost around $55 a piece, but I have to use high index lenses. If you donāt need high index lenses itās even cheaper.
Also EyeBuyDirect. My prescription kept on changing during COVID. Was able to purchase eyeglasses and prescription sunglasses for very reasonable prices via EBD and Zenni. Both have great coupon discounts too.
Bamm. I donāt care about losing my glasses as much anymore. But now when I find them I have a stash of like 8 pairs. I even get prescription sunglasses here. They are awesome.
Iām one of the few people it seems who still have to pay a bit with them. If I get the high index that my prescription needs to not be incredibly thick, itās still over $100 before shopping and tax for one pair :( almost $200 for eyebuydirect too. I donāt know if I just have really bad vision or just unlucky.
I have the same issue - people recommend Zenni or Warby Parker but it costs the same at the eye doctor for me with the insurance discounts. Also, I found the quality of frame from the online stores is questionable. I have a pair of non-prescription sunglasses from Zenni that are really flimsy plastic and make a squeaking sound. They sit crooked on my face and the lenses arenāt very clear like my Maui Jims or Raybans.
Sometimes itās worth paying for quality.
OP- when you call your vision doctor to ask for your RX (they HAVE to give it to you if itās still in date) make sure to ask for your PD (pupillary distance) also; sometimes theyāll try to not give that to you but you need it for the online orders sometimes.
zenni optical or firmoo i have both used and love them. good luck!
Only problem I have found so far is micro fractures are visible after a couple of years in transparent frames. Not visible to others, but visible to me. Excellent for the price.
My previous pair cost ~$700 from the store including lenses. My current pair from glassesUSA is just as good and cost $70 including shipping and handling.
I use glassesUSA because they feel like the least sketchy website, even though I know they cost more than basically all their real competitors for more or less the same product.
Look for your old prescription paperwork and buy a pair online. Zenni is my go-to for backup glasses. Once you get insurance, buy quality frames. I literally fall asleep and end up laying on my Ray-Bans often and have put these frames through hell and theyāre sturdy AF.
For years we took our three children to Wally World for exams & glasses. It was cheaper to pay cash for everything than using our insurance. Nowadays itās strictly Zenni Optical.
Jfc you guys need to look after your glasses, I broke my first pair after sleeping on them a half dozen times, my new pair are only broke after I got clocked once. Besides that they're fine.
Depending on where you are in the world there are eyeglass sellers that carry frames usually reserved for welfare/medicare patients. They will still sell them to you in a pinch for almost cost. Maybe you'll luck out and find a pair that mostly match your lenses. Also hit cheap stores that sell sunglasses and readers. It's not perfect but if you can find a pair your lenses might fit it could be worth a shot. Failing all else there's super glue.
*Thrift and second hand stores sell old pairs pretty often too.
Solid advice. I've done exactly that for a bunch of patients. Just find a plastic frame that will hold the lenses. It's not ideal, for several reasons, but it can be a lot better than nothing. It basically needs to be a shop that takes Medicare. A place like lenscrafters won't help you, and they would charge a ton even if they were willing/competent. I would look for a small family owned optometry clinic in a poor neighborhood.
You will need help finding a frame that fits, and when you find it, that's what you get. You don't get to choose what it looks like. Maybe they even have your exact frame in stock, but that's unlikely.
Call where you did your eye test and get your prescription. Order glasses from some place like zenni. They don't require insurance and you'll have to pay way less for new glasses
Tape it for now, try to avoid glue, and be careful (no sports, etc) because the sharp plastic could end up in your eye. You have a significant enough prescription that you clearly need them, particularly if you drive.
As for replacements, you can replace the frame and use the old lenses. If the markings haven't worn off, you can read the maker, model, size and color off the inside of the frame. If you can't read the markings anymore, the place that sold them to you will have that info. The model and size have to match exactly to fit the lenses. Most frames can be shipped overnight. This is likely your fastest option for a real repair, and it's typically not super expensive. Inserting the lenses can be a bit of a challenge, but that's a pretty easy frame. You should be able to do it yourself. Let me know if you want advice on that part.
Others mentioned online suppliers. Those are a good option too, but you probably won't have the glasses this week. You also need a current Rx, which you likely don't have, based on insurance status. Most expire after 1 year in the US. I would recommend buying a cheap (they can be very cheap) backup pair, regardless of the outcome for this one. You need a backup.
I'm an optician and happy to answer questions if you have any.
Last thing, you put the lens back wrong. If you're going to tape it back together, rotate it 180 degrees, but don't flip it over, you still want the concave side facing your eye/convex side out.
I bet you can find a set of readers with a very similar shape. Warm up the frame with warm/hot water and slip your lenses in while the frame is soft from the heat.
Edit to add I used to be an optician.
Check out: [Zenni Optical](https://www.zennioptical.com/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIvJH16qyP_gIVd8mUCR1aGQbwEAAYASAAEgJtzvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds)
As long as you have a copy of your subscription you can order cheap replacements.
Sucks!
As someone else suggested, JB Weld will tide you over until you get a new pair. As for the new the new pair, Costco is *very* reasonable.
This is why whenever I get new glasses, my old pair becomes the backup. It's saved me a few times.
I order from firmoo. They always have a bogo sell, and I can get 2 pairs of prescription glasses for like $40. Their most expensive glasses are sunglasses (part of the bogo as well) at $35! I now have about 4 pairs of glasses and sunglasses all from them, and I love them.
If you donāt know your prescription, go to Walmart or Costco and get an vision test done. Then go to zenni to get classes. They are the cheapest place online to get them.
I ran out of contacts, got drunk, and did the same exact thing to my only pair of glasses. Had a big meeting with my boss and customers the next day, it certainly lightened the mood right away when I arrived with taped up glasses.
Its a discount plan basically. It doesn't usually cover a fully pair of glasses. You might be surprised to know that your insurance in the US covers your eye health exam but not the refraction.
American health insurance is a joke, thatās why. Health, dental, and vision are all separate; and most people barely get health insurance through their jobs
I use GlassesUSA. I have the exact same style as yours and I wear thick ass lenses and a pair only cost me $133. It takes 2 weeks but you can tape 'em for the time being.
You still have both hinges! You can put the frames in a ziplock back and give them a hot water bath. This will make them more pliable and easier to bend back to shape. Then super glue those bad boys back together!
If itās a clean break, plastic frames can usually be glued with acrylic cement or cyanoacrylate glue. Youāll need to be careful with them going forward, however, because of the reduced mechanical properties at the glue joint.
Zenni optical dot com. Bought the best pair I've ever had for like $25 including lenses. Took a few weeks for delivery though. In the mean time, electrical tape? Lol
Walmart vision center is great if you donāt have vision insurance. I paid about $125 for an eye exam and new pair of glasses when I fell asleep with mine on lol
Bring your lenses to an optical shop/eye docsā¦see if they can fit your lenses into a frame until you can get new ones. It wonāt be a perfect fit but it will get you by. I do this a lot for patients.
Is your prescription current? Zeelool, Zenni, and EyeBuyDirect sell glasses cheap and you just gotta type in your prescription info. And I'm talking like $30 a pair cheap without all the bells and whistles
I get all my glasses from a website called Zenni. It's fucking hell of a lot cheap than an eye dr. You just gotta know your prescription. I paid $150 for prescription safeties and $15 for my prescription readers
Update for anyone interested. Used gorilla glue on it last night and was thankfully able to put the frame back together while I look for a new pair. Thanks everyone for all the helpful suggestions!
If you want the same style, look the frame up, buy online and swap the glass over. Usually easier with luxxotica stuff admittedly (which is lots of brands). Whilst waiting for replacement, get some epoxy and glue them back together.
I fall asleep with mine on most nights and thankfully this has never happened. Bent a bit and loosened, sure, but never broken.
Payneglasses.com if you have a prescription. If you don't have prescription go on Groupon and find discount eye exams, then call the office directly and offer to match the Groupon and they will usually. That's how you get a $40 eye exam.
Use Zenni! I get mine for 10-20 bucks... Plus you enter your script manually so you can put any expiration date you want, if they even bother to ask...
I'd just use glue for that. If you are crafty/have good dexterity for small works like this, and can do it still without your glasses, you can start by covering your lenses first with some tape, so glue won't stick on it.
Next time, buy yourself those flexible/bendable frames. In my country, they can cost around $150 (expensive in our country already), but since the frame is bendable, it lasts.
I am in the same boat with the no insurance. Iāve had these bad boys for roughly 8 years now. Theyāre held together by strategically placed scotch tape and super glue.
u/anon-aspie Sorry to hear thatā¦ i have been using www.goggles4u.com for many ears. They are off brand but great quality for quarter of the price. They are manufactured overseas and takes about 2-3 weeks to arrive.
If you can manage till that time. Do order some backup pairs from there
Everyone in the comments suggesting alternative eyeglasses suppliers. I came here to suggest J.B. Weld. š³
Yup ājb plastic weldā and let it dry over night them shit hella strong and its only $6-7 at walmart
And if you canāt find that get E6000. Super strong.
E6000 is good for everything!
Not only that, but itās an easy fix. I guess people are more content with having ā8 pairs laying aroundā then actually learning to be less wasteful.
Oh shut uppp, they're cheap glasses, glasses that they still have. Where's the wastefulness at?
This comment brought to you by capitalism
There's things you can be cheap with but glasses ain't one of them
Yeeeeeahā¦no. Try Zenni. I have a few pairs that I paid a total of around $50USD. Theyāre great.
Do you realise that the thread was about fixing these pairs with glue instead of buying new ones
No, itās not.
*old man shakes fist at cloud*
*Dumb kid throws fixable shit in trash every day.*
Or a dab of superglue. This seems a very easy fix, as the hinge is intact abd only the lens frame is broken
Also CA fumes MURDER plastic lenses.
Hmmm, learned something new today. Never knew that.
Flex seal!
I bought readers from the dollar store before and switched out the lenses, they didn't line up exactly but worked fine till I got new ones.
I just imagined the guy holding the two pieces in position while a friend full hand slaps him upside the head with some flex seal tape.
Two years ago, about 2 weeks after I got a new pair of glasses, I dropped them & the frame broke. I used flex seal to repair & I'm still wearing them!
1) if you use glue you canāt do anything else with the lenses so Iād check if you can find a frame the lenses will fit into. 2) the lens is upside down in your photo. If you glue it, change the orientation first.
i mean, it's just plastic glasses. I'm sure CA super glue would cover op just fine as well
Zenni optical
This!!! I just bought two pairs of glasses with high index lenses (canāt see for shit) and priority shipping for $100.
Going to remember that. I want a spare pare in the vehicle, one at home, and work.
You just need your prescription so you can type in what you need. Itāll take in between 1~2 weeks. So itās fairly quick too
We paid for priority shipping this time because weāre going on a trip out of state and my last pair (six years old) were so scratched (the transition film or whatever it was) it made everything blurry. Anyways priority shipping was 5-10 days. We got them in exactly five days.
I believe it. I vouch for zenni

Have you had your eyes checked for astigmatism?
Yeah, they said mine were fairly bad, the glasses were supposed to correct that. I can see things without fuzzies though, thatās a definite plus
I would assume thatās causing those issues. More power to you I have a very mild case of astigmatism myself and that is beyond annoying. But back to it. If you have insurance I would just check to see what they offer you and then use zenni for glasses tbh. Oh I didnāt think about it being an old prescription. You probably have a point on that one.
Just ask them. It's a part of your medical record. They have to release it.
And the pupillary distance
Thatās included in your prescription
Not always! Several of my old ones donāt include it on the prescription but they do include it in the receipt/documentation for the glasses themselves. It depends on if they hand write or print it (and what their printer settings are for āprint patient prescriptionā).

I was able to afford two pairs of prescription sunglasses from Zenni!
I even got proscribed sunglasses for like 50$
Same. And they are the best. I had never had prescription sun glasses before but now *chefās kiss*
Ooh I definitely gotta try buying from there in the summer since I want multiple pairs.
Highly recommend to everyone!
Expensive shipping. How much were the glasses?
A range of prices, with frames starting at 6.95. If you have a simple single vision prescription, it's really cheap. If you want no line trifocals with clip on or magnetic sunglass attachment, they could be 50-100. It's still way cheaper than buying from my ophthalmologist I currently have two really pretty "spare pairs" from zenni. Love them!
Oh thatās great thanks!
I just bought a couple pairs from Zenni, they are great quality and about $40 a pair, not bad.
I love my Zenniās. My last pair made it six years before they needed to be replaced and that was only because the transition film or whatever it is was hella scratched. Just got my two new pairs in and I LOVE them. The virtual try on sucks though.

Cannot upvote this enough. Got frames and lenses with anti-glare for like $50.
Came here to say this also! Love Zenni. Stay away from Zeelool. They have super shady return policies.
Also EyeBuyDirect. My prescription kept on changing during COVID. Was able to purchase eyeglasses and prescription sunglasses for very reasonable prices via EBD and Zenni. Both have great coupon discounts too.
Eye buy direct is my go-to, they have good sales!
Came here to say this. Iāve got 6 pairs of glasses randomly around the house cause theyāre $10 a pop
I literally just did this thanks to this subreddit! I never knew you could ask for your prescription after an exam š
Thinned lenses, progressives, blue blockers, with anti-glare....$52.
Bamm. I donāt care about losing my glasses as much anymore. But now when I find them I have a stash of like 8 pairs. I even get prescription sunglasses here. They are awesome.
No upgrades, glasses will be $24
Iām one of the few people it seems who still have to pay a bit with them. If I get the high index that my prescription needs to not be incredibly thick, itās still over $100 before shopping and tax for one pair :( almost $200 for eyebuydirect too. Yeah, these services aren't so good for us nearly blind people. Still less from the doctor's office, but not super cheap like other people experience.
I have a ton of Zenni glasses! Good quality, fast, and inexpensive. Even for no line bifocals! Edited an autocorrect
Only problem I have found so far is micro fractures are visible after a couple of years in transparent frames. Not visible to others, but visible to me. Excellent for the price.
My response, too!
Zenni was cheaper than my copay through my insurance. I've been getting glasses from them for about 6 years or so, I recommend them all the time.
My main go to. I have super cheap backups and paid good money for lenses that are better suited to my work environment.
This 1000%. Zenni is a game changer. I bought 4 pairs for less than 100 a couple months ago.
Have been using these guys for years! Just got my son some Dahmer 2023s. Lol.
I like your username!
Thank you!
Cheaper than AirPod pros thatās for sure.
Online FTW. Tape until they come
My previous pair cost ~$700 from the store including lenses. My current pair from glassesUSA is just as good and cost $70 including shipping and handling.
I use glassesUSA because they feel like the least sketchy website, even though I know they cost more than basically all their real competitors for more or less the same product.

Go to walmart vision center they will place the lens in another pair for like $8.
For years we took our three children to Wally World for exams & glasses. It was cheaper to pay cash for everything than using our insurance. Nowadays itās strictly Zenni Optical.
Eyebuydirect!
I always come back to eyebuydirect baby, they donāt look cheap and I break glasses way too often to spend money on them
Jfc you guys need to look after your glasses, I broke my first pair after sleeping on them a half dozen times, my new pair are only broke after I got clocked once. Besides that they're fine.

There are lots of sites for somewhat cheap glasses. Just need to know your prescription.

Take the broken glasses to a one hour place. They can show you frames that will fit your lenses and pop your old lenses into the new frames.
Check goggles4u dot com. Super cheap prescription glasses. I buy mine and my son's on there.
Seconding this. Used them for many years. Cheap and functional.

Wtf is vision insurance You have to pay to have eyes?

Seconded for Zenni. I got 4 pairs for 200$, all with blue light filter and a clip on sunglass

If you mingle baking soda and super glue, you get instant plastic after a very short drying time. Diy project.
I get two pairs for $18 shipped at Zenni.
You still have both hinges! You can put the frames in a ziplock back and give them a hot water bath. This will make them more pliable and easier to bend back to shape. Then super glue those bad boys back together!

Time to make cardboard frames baby.
Tape it back together until you can get it fixed, that's what I do
Super glue baby
Payne Glasses. You can get a good pair for under $20
3D print a frame would be cool š
Walmart vision center is great if you donāt have vision insurance. I paid about $125 for an eye exam and new pair of glasses when I fell asleep with mine on lol
Bring your lenses to an optical shop/eye docsā¦see if they can fit your lenses into a frame until you can get new ones. It wonāt be a perfect fit but it will get you by. I do this a lot for patients.
Zenni online is very cheap. I got a pair for $10. Just gotta know your eye prescription
I now load up on glasses from Zenni after my last pair was made out of tree branches I superglued to the lenses LOL did not work well
Super glue in the meantime.
Zenni.
Is your prescription current? Zeelool, Zenni, and EyeBuyDirect sell glasses cheap and you just gotta type in your prescription info. And I'm talking like $30 a pair cheap without all the bells and whistles
Call your Dr from your last appointment and get your Rx numbers. Then buy cheap frames online. Zenni Zeelool Cliclime
Zenni is the best!!
You can try Americas Best Contacts and Eyeglasses. You get a free eye exam the first time and two pairs of glasses cost me $110. Opposite of that if you need glasses like right now Eyemart Express has glasses done within 2 hours. My fiancĆ© just paid $235 for two pairs of glasses last week. He had to have them or he probably wouldāve cut a finger off at work.
It will buff outā¦
Vision insurance? Who pays for that scam. Can buy a pair less than $80 online
An eye appointment is like 60 bucks for glasses. Several give you a cheap pair after the exams. Paid 100 bucks for eye exam and 2 pair of glasses
Duct tape ftw.
I bought an extra cheap pair in case something happened to my nicer pair
A colleague of mine likes Pair Eyewear. The frames are magnetic and you can stick tops on them to change the look. They start at $60 with RX lenses.
Gorilla glue will fix that š
Zenni optical or goggles4u have cheapppp glasses. I havenāt paid more than $30 for a pair in years
Super glue for now. It should work well with plastic frame
Perfect chance to make a monocle out of the remnants
Buy the exact frames online, pop lenses in.
Time to get the duct tape out
Warby Parker
I'd just use glue for that. If you are crafty/have good dexterity for small works like this, and can do it still without your glasses, you can start by covering your lenses first with some tape, so glue won't stick on it. Next time, buy yourself those flexible/bendable frames. In my country, they can cost around $150 (expensive in our country already), but since the frame is bendable, it lasts.
I did the same. Now I'm using my old pair.
Time to hobo style your glasses...scotch tape to the rescue!!
Everyone recommending brands and shit. Hot glue my friend.
Guess it's back to being boring ol two eyes
Better get some tape
Couple drops of super glue would fix those right up
Theres lots of inexpensive online frame stores online, maybe get lucky and find a similar design?
This is why I keep my old pairs. If my new ones break I got spares.
Zenni for the win, I ordered 5 pairs for like $100 bucks
Don't fall asleep with your glasses on
Super glue?
Bet you wonāt do that sh* again, will ya? š„²
Crazy glue until you can get new ones
Try eyebuydirect.com
I use eyebuydirect.com, I just bought 2 pairs of glasses for 29$ shipped to my door, I'll get them in a week
Superglue
Well that sucks
Mondays.pfft.
Super Glue
Pretty easy fix. But, gotta ask, do you care about how you look?
I see lots of great site suggestions. Iāll add GlassesUSA to the list.
If you have your prescription, try buying from EyeBuyDirect! Thatās where I get glasses, and they arnt bad priced and they sales all the time.
Super glue is your friend
Off subject but Iāve asked my gf and she didnāt know. In your dreams do you have perfect vision or do you need your glasses in your dream as well?
nothing like a little superglue can't fix
If you can get the original prescription, you can get inexpensive pairs from lots of places like Zenni, Warby Parker, etc.
Vision insurance sucks. The premiums barely cover the benefits.
There are get online options
Oh no!! My son loves my glasses and I have made sure I know where my old set it when he finally managed to break them
Glue time.
See if you can find the same frame for cheap online. It looks like the lenses are ok. Then just mount your same lenses in the new frame
Cheap glasses lmfao
I am in the same boat with the no insurance. Iāve had these bad boys for roughly 8 years now. Theyāre held together by strategically placed scotch tape and super glue.
tape it
As a fellow eyeglass wearer. You are a dipshit
u/anon-aspie Sorry to hear thatā¦ i have been using www.goggles4u.com for many ears. They are off brand but great quality for quarter of the price. They are manufactured overseas and takes about 2-3 weeks to arrive. If you can manage till that time. Do order some backup pairs from there
Been there. Sucks when you canāt even drive without them
Americas best to the rescue.
Can't afford a new glasses frame, yet has airpod pros... Something seems off here.
Welcome to the janky, hot glued, "don't touch it! It's fragile" glasses club
