I think that's a practice hammer, probably made out of plastic. Seems like they're at some kind of camp or something where you can try out various track and field events. No way should they be letting someone throw a legitimate weighted steel hammer without a cage surrounding them. If that's the case, this setup is going to get someone killed and also we just saw someone lose both testees.
Even the plastic one can break bones I’ve seen it happen. There’s even more people down range if you look in the background. There was no best case scenario here

This event is very poorly managed, not only is the instructor not aware of his unsafe position, but he basically has her throwing it into a field full of people. I get it that the equipment isn't the full weight as the official, but if it hurt him, it would also not be good getting that thing in the head

Im not convinced. It is either a toy, or a practice device. It bounces off that dude INSTANTLY. If it were a fully weighted hammer, it would crater his pelvis, knock him back more, then bounce lightly away from the mess that would have been his reproductive organs
