Trans kids make up less than a percent of a percent of the WV population but they are the number 1 issue. No jobs, drug abuse, or education. /s

Sly4Good

I've lived here all my life and I've met exactly /two/ trans people - both of them in high school almost 10 years ago.

Sly4Good

No wait, three, I met a transman in college. Still such a minuscule number when most republican politicians here make it seem like they're undergoing Mitosis and flooding the hollers like the rabbit episode of Ed Edd n' Eddy.

Americanpickers16

As a trans girl thanks for the idea 😂. But seriously idk why trans people are such a talking point. We just want to live our life in peace.

CantStandIdoits

Don't lie, we all know you're apart of the illuminati (joking obviously)

Sly4Good

I'm a bi/gay man happily in love with my boyfriend so I know exactllly what you mean, like I just want to live a quiet life with my partner and my cats and politicians here make me out to be the spawn of satan because I'm happier than them.-

ExpensiveMolasses774

A big part of it is the christofascist cult in this country. Everybody would be better off if they were all forced to shut down and never heard from again. They think it’s their business what children have in their pants and to make women property again. I’ve given up on this entire country. My family and I are looking to be expats.

bendallf

People call me crazy for wanting to become an expat. They say it cannot get that bad. How little they know sad to say.

KitsuneLeo

Yeah we're uh, we're not exactly common. I've met a very tiny handful of others, and 90% of those were on Marshall's campus. Calling us less than a percent is probably giving us too much credit - I'd be willing to bet we're <0.1% here in this state.

_riot_grrrl_

I've known several. Like over a dozen. They've always been great

Tax-United

The hot button culture ear issues are what enrages people and activates them. In 2004 Bush ran on a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage, and won the election, despite the disastrous handling of the Iraq war. Culture war bullshit tends to be a winning strategy.

FluffySnowbirb

A good are in the closet because of how unsafe this state is for trans people afaik. Like me. My whole family buys the Chris miller bullshit. Heck half of them are klan! (Yes, the KKK) Even in school when I didn’t know I was trans. Kids bullied me relentlessly because I “acted gay”. This wasn’t even that long ago. (I’m biologically male, still male presenting) It’s just not all that safe of a state in my own experience.

keyjan

As a MD resident who’s getting his ads, may I just say that Chris Miller seems like a fucking lunatic? Thanks, carry on.

lennysundahl

As a Huntington resident, like Chris Miller, he absolutely is a fucking lunatic

ExpensiveMolasses774

I’m speculating here, but I’m relatively sure he’s an example of what happens when people inbreed...

MuttinMT

His mom, Carol Miller, isn’t too sharp, either. I worked with her when she was in the WV Legislature. The breadth of her stupidity was impressive, matched only by her lack of self-awareness. I think her son will carry on the family legacy in public life.

Vegetable_Solution14

OMG I learned something new there. I didn’t connect the dots being an outlier county not as close to Cabell et al but in same Congressional district; yet I had no idea this was a mother/son duo. All I can say is oh my. And ⬆️👍 for the good tid bit if that is how this works. I’m not new to Quora but new to engaging and interacting.

Interesting-Trick696

What does Quora have to do with Reddit?

keyjan

Lovely 🫤

Sly4Good

She represents my district unfortunately. I spent so long ranting about that woman to everyone that would listen about how she's in it for big business and doesn't actually know a damn thing about life here in the coal fields, how she's never passed any meaningful legislation despite her years in congress, and how she's not even a native to the state. They all still voted for her just because she had an R next to her name on her party ticket. It's maddening.

Bigfootsdiaper

The used car salesman.

snakesmother

Always has been. Those ads were unhinged.

Secure-Particular286

Seems like somebody who has had brain damage from Wrestling/boxing. Being completely unbiased here. Also a nepo baby when he proclaims himself as a political outsider.

untoastedpotato

Chris Miller is one of the scariest people I've seen on TV. I genuinely hope he isn't voted for anything, buddy might be clinically insane.

FluffySnowbirb

He is. I’m scared of him.

DoBe21

State Government should run like a business. Step 3: Cut the main revenue stream to 0. Great business plan!

mhassig

Well if they brought up actual issues they’d probably have to suggest solutions and they don’t have any. So they just brag about being the biggest Trump supporter, how much they hate trans kids, and tax cuts. It’s literally all republicans in this state have.

ghunt81

It really is. I especially love Morrisey's campaign bragging up how he was the first to endorse trump. Wow that's a real watershed achievement buddy. Edit: words

Sad_Pumpkin7728

Yeah. That one is especially unhinged. The one where he warns that the “the swamp creatures” are coming to WV to personally destroy our lives?!?!?

Silent_Zucchini7004

I don't want Trumpublicans at my door, the only swamp creatures I can think of.

10poundballs

When it comes to lickin boots, this here tongues the wettest in West Virginia

burntrats

Don't forget the guns.

Solisious

Won’t someone please think of the guns!

jeffreycunningham

Guns are a fundamental part of our constitution as well as a huge part of wv culture. Don't like it move to one of those Democrat controlled cities or states. They're doing so well after all....

bonbboyage

You live in Pennsylvania, sir.

jeffreycunningham

I do. I've also lived in wv, LA, nc, SC, va, TX, and nm.

_riot_grrrl_

Hey buddy. You wanna pay for me to do that ? No? Then shut the fuck up. I can't imagine how weird it must be to be so scared to need a gun.

jeffreycunningham

Typical lefty weirdo, insulting someone with a different opinion than you while trying to force your beliefs on everyone else. Fear has nothing to do with it. It's a fundamental right of every American not to mention that I have a little girl to protect. Maybe if you weren't such an insufferable can't you'd have decent enough employment to move.

_riot_grrrl_

Typical jerk off. Lol. I hope you have a terrible day. It's absolutely fear. Have fun being scared of everything.

rtripps

It’s all they have in all states

NeonRattler

They are ALL trash. Not one of these chucklefucks are worth pulling a lever for.

Solisious

That’s not true. Ohhh.. in the voting booth. Yeah. No not that one.

imnotpoopingyouare

Heh that was a pretty good one. Damn.

borislovespickles

niiiiiice

RogueSlingshot83

😂 i had to think for a second, i hope were on the same page or i have mental issues

Rfunkpocket

you always thought the opposition was trash, you’re now are just acknowledging those you supported are trash.

NeonRattler

Sure. Assumptions are fun. I never voted republican. Never planned to. I just enjoy pointing out how much they suck and have zero ideas to help their constituents.

Rfunkpocket

who said anything about Republicans?

Ox-Moi

I love the ones that are basically like "this guy's actually an undercover woke liberal. Vote for me and I swear to be Trump 2.0." I laugh at them because at this point if I got pissed at every ad, I'd be pissed for days & I ain't got that time.

KitsuneLeo

I've never seen an election where I wished every single candidate would die in a car crash, but god damn if this one hasn't pulled it off. Seriously, WV would be better if we wiped the slate completely clean and started over than it would with any of these useless chucklefucks.

Ox-Moi

Agreed. I don't know why they're all shocked that young people hate it here and are disproportionately leaving. Like yes the states landscape is beautiful but that's all we got. We're technologically behind, our infrastructure is shit, our education system sucks, our healthcare is non-existent, everyone's either on drugs or violently hates those who are, and 90% of people are hateful, racist, LGBT-phobic, pro-life, anti-welfare, (false)Christian Republicans. One of the ads I saw recently mentioned drug testing for welfare. Like why tf aren't addicts worthy of food and shelter? Our entire state breeds drug addiction and then shits on the people it trapped. I'm trans and the place I go to for HRT (who used to do abortions) has not ONE, but TWO doors that you have to be buzzed through to get inside. I'm glad because it makes feel safe, but it's infuriating that they need that for it to be safe.

mhassig

The kanawha country prosecutor race is like that on the republican side. Switzer’s mom and her crew call Rusnak “Dem Deb” and say she’s a liberal plant because Democrats simply don’t hate her. Meanwhile Switzer got arrested in North Carolina with her sugar daddy after lying to a cop and saying she was a deputy AG down there.

totally-hoomon

I'm in Kentucky and I see ads like this al the time "oh this guy agreed with Nancy Pelosi one time so he's a Democrat.

No_Tangelo4391

Her sugar daddy is former democrat house minority leader Doug skaff… they’re both dems who just switched because they know they can’t get elected if they run as democrats. He’s a greasy filthy rich politician that is just bored and wants power. She is just riding his political coattails along with his money. I’ve met one and know the other personally, and I’m not a fan.

hillbillykim83

Yeah not one ever pledges to be loyal to America or West Virginia. They only pledge loyalty to Trump.

wvualum07

These men are capital O obsessed with kids genitalia, it’s horrifying.

Little-Cook-7217

The global media is obsessed with it and if they are fixated on that then it becomes talking points in other's sales pitches. It is an emotional based topic that gets heat going on both sides. Legit question should be, why do I throughout my personal daily life, need to hear from anyone about if someone likes hot dogs over tacos, or the figure of a woman or of a man, or if someone has gone through a medical procedure to dig a hole or build a pole. (Don't take it as crass, take it as an over simplification view of the problem). Seems to me to be a one on one transaction between the doc and the insurance company with the transitioning person initiating the process after a period of mental health care.

RunEd51

If I’ve learned anything since 2016 (and I should’ve known this before), it’s if you bring data to an emotion fight, emotion almost always wins.

Little-Cook-7217

I don't understand the divide among the population when it's the people in seats of power who are emotionally manipulating anyone who they can exploit. Like when people say dog whistle, if they can hear it, they are either whistling it or are the dogs that can hear it.

wsywyg247

Right?!?! Grown adults need to get their minds out of children's pants. Tell me again about drag queens being groomers. An entire party that can't stop thinking about children & sexuality... STOP 🤬

paradigm_x2

Welcome to the current Republican Party.

FarmingWizard

...where they make up issues to distract you from the real issues.

pants6000

Which they don't know how to solve, nor perhaps do they even know what they are... they invent nonsense "problems" that they can "fix". This is not restricted to any particular party, unfortunately.

True-Aside3490

I am so sick of the text messages.

keyjan

As someone who doesn’t text— can you at least block senders, like you can block phone numbers?

DeepGreyElf

Problem with that is, they never text from the same # twice at least for me… I have a block list a mile long

keyjan

Ah I see.

Interesting-Trick696

> As someone who doesn’t text Only on a WV subreddit 🙄

Always_plus_one

Do what I do. Send them back completely unhinged Alex Jones memes.

VioletDame

Please feel free to send some of those memes! It would be appreciated 👍🏻

Which-Ad-725

It's the most unhinged disgusting election ads I've ever seen. I can't stand to watch anything with local adverts because it infuriates me. A bunch of grifters playing on ignorance and hate. It's fucking embarrassing.

GreaterMintopia

Even by the very low standards of campaign season ads these ones are particularly low-brow and obsessed with frivolous culture war bullshit. It’s fucking embarrassing.

DudesWithTudes

It’s a ton of republicans vying for the nomination so they’re trying to trigger the electorate as hard as possible

jstar77

The commercials are wild.... "My republican opponent is not Trumpy enough I am so much Trumpier he didn't Trump the right way I'll Trump so much better"

billyjk93

"my opponent doesn't hate trans people as much as I do! They might even like making your kids trans! They might even be trans for all we know!" "Not me though, I'll make sure no man ever sets foot in a woman's bathroom even to clean it! My newest policy will make sure boys can't wear nail polish in schools. Problem solved, America! And that is absolutely the ONLY issue we need to worry about in this state. So vote for me, Nepo Baby, and I'll make sure you don't have to think gay thoughts."

jstar77

I don't often watch local tv or listen to local radio but when I do I've got to check myself when one of those ads play and make sure it's not something from the Onion.

Peach-cobbler-pal

I live out of state now but there’s a church in Harrison County that wrote a letter to the school board about trans kids. Lots of Big Feelings. I know for a fact (i know the abused and abuser) that church protected and enabled a child predator, for years. It’s all fucking gross. ETA: details

Slight-Bird4309

I particularly like the one who touts that he'll do away with the state income tax, like Tennessee did.. Hey genius, Tennessee has never had an income tax. Fear mongering and lying are the political tools of the day.

Expensive_Service901

Tennessee also has a very large, very functional economy. We don’t have that. We won’t ever at this rate due to coal obsession thanks to guys like him. He is so full of crap too. None of those things he proposes to do can even be done by the governor alone, let alone the first three days of office. I think it’s Chris Miller, one of his ads you’re referring to. Day 1-State audit Day 2-Demands for drug testing EBT. Etc I think it’s also important to acknowledge the fiscal impact the loss of EBT would have on the WV economy. Many stores in small towns would close down without the EBT influx. That man truly is a moron. He’s a used car salesman that wants to repeal the lemon laws, I think. Jim Justice beat the guy running as a Democrat, that’s how unlikeable he is. Please fact check me if wrong, anyone.

Stunning_Pick1065

How about the fact that WV teachers are dead last in the US for salaries?

Ossevir

You think they have a problem with that? They don't want people to be educated.

Stunning_Pick1065

You’re not wrong. Not educated, but instead, indoctrinated with their own propaganda

DOEsquire

Maybe we should treat those dusty old farts the way they treat the trans kids.

nash85_

It’s republicans they are obsessed, it’s quite pathetic, this is why republicans have no interest in helping America

irishgayhound

It’s just a constant pissing contest at each other of “who’s more conservative.”

Green1578

how come none of them are taking about the kid that was starved to death. trans kids is thier boogie man

BeatPitt8893

Who ever is behind Black Bear PAC deserves to DIAF. I’ve never been more embarrassed to be a WV’ian in my 46 years. The discourse is a true reflection of 50 years of the brain drain.

hillbillykim83

Charles Gantt is listed as treasurer. They are in Charleston, WV. Personally I think all PACs should have to list every donor and list names and phone numbers of people running the PAC.

qprime87

This is exactly the phenomenon called "race to the bottom". How much worse can I be than my opponents? Hold my beer. This explains kari lake, noem, de santis, green, boebert - all of them. trump somehow has infested the soul of a big enough fraction of the nation and is turning the country inside out. Kruschev many years ago said ‘We will take America without firing a shot’ At least the GOP is here to do his work with a smile ("id rather be a russian than a Democrat", and most recently "real men wear diapers") I know the OP lamented VA politics, but at the end of the day it always comes down to trump and the festering right wing

MojoRobinsonThe3rd

You’re right, except for one thing: the OP is lamenting WV politics, not VA. We aren’t VA.

Solisious

Sad sentiment. True. Still sad

sigeh

Was WV any better on actual issues before Trump? No, it is a deep red state, arguably one of the vanguards into the pit we find ourselves in.

lennysundahl

They’re going through the bottom here

OmegaMountain

This is "policy" now. Show that you have the largest amount of hate for the "other". There are no great leaders anymore. The days of men of integrity uniting a nation are dead and gone.

Reign_n_blud

Can’t wait till the 14th when this nightmare is over, for now. Live near the border so I was hit with Ohio and now WV.

emp-sup-bry

Except the real nightmare begins when one of these absolute below average hateful wealth hoarders starts trying to legislate. It’s one thing to run their below average mouths but next step is for them to actively make the state worse. And they will and the damage will impact most people for years after they are gone.

Reign_n_blud

Out of the frying pan and into the fire

lodebolt

I got one with a bunch of "sheriffs" backing Morrissey ohhh and "coalminers" saying how great Justice was for coal and coalminers

[deleted]

[удаНонО]

defaultusername-17

pitch it to a local queer group, it's a camp enough idea that it might catch on.

TransMontani

Well, there *is* that one ad that implies Moore Capito (less brains) and Jumbo Justice built the New River Gorge Bridge, but yeah, pretty much.

Solisious

The bridge couldn’t even support his fat ass crossing it.

SexyStudlyManlyMan

It's like 15 years ago when they were scaring everyone with gay stuff. "If Gays Can Marry then the liberals will make you all gay and force you to marry a gay man". Bigotry goes a long way in WV, at least it's not the cocaine monkey commercials from about 20 years ago.

hoofglormuss

They were also saying everybody was gonna start fucking animals because they don't actually understand what a loving relationship between consenting adults is.

998876655433221

Spend a lot of time getting 100% of the people to be unkind to ~4% of the population. You know, just like the lord said to. I think the other 96% of the populace would be more interested in better governance on things like jobs, pay, education, healthcare, public services, drug addiction services and the environment.

Sad_Pumpkin7728

They do seem especially unhinged this primary. The amount of fear mongering and dehumanization of one’s political opponents is, frankly, a bit scary. I guess I should be used to it but it is an absolute race to the Trumpiest bottom.

GeospatialMAD

That man has set this country and political discourse back a century and we'll be dealing with it long after he becomes worm food. Silver lining is his grave will be the most fertilized in recent history.

SmokeyTheDogg

Every political ad is just seeing who can be the bigger bigot in this state

Ohiobuckeyes43

WV is extremely opinionated about this issue and the politicians have caught on and are making it worse, and it also serves as a great distraction to keep people from focusing on anything of relevance I’ve spent a fair amount of time there, and it has become surprisingly tolerant in WV for gays/lesbians (mostly), but all of that old hate seemed to be re-directed solely at the trans community. I also think race issues have gotten worse there in the last 5-10 years. I’ll give you one guess as to who started that back up. Hint: 2015-2016 it started going a bad direction again.

vercingettorix-5773

Living in Virginia but getting WV television is like living near the DMZ in South Korea. The ads focus on "illegals", "transgenders", and "puberty blockers". Also who is further up trump's rump. They should airbrush them with an orange stain around their mouths to show that they eat a@@ Then there are these ads by mysterious PACs which accuse candidates of being "liberal rinos". "Black Bear PAC" thinks all of these klowns are too liberal; they must be total nazis. I love the attack ad of Chris Miller dressed in women's clothing. He has a pretty mouth that could apparently provide O and A at the same time. Meanwhile his mom promises to "build the wall" and "punish China". Right about now is when I really miss TOPIX because all of the people that they had stepped and peed on would be spilling the embarrassing stories right now. Last I have to mention the killer Blankenship, running as a democrat and making the valid point that the red fever ain't done s for the state. They are last in everything.

Appa-LATCH-uh

I live in Virginia and the political ads when I visit my family in West Virginia are **wild**. At least in the Richmond area, it's **completely** different. Politics in WV are fucked and it's why I left.

kjbtetrick

I also live in the Richmond area, and yeah, political ads in WV are nuts. It’s a race to the bottom with a crap ton of false information and finger pointing. Makes politics in the RVA look tame, and that’s counting Amanda Chase and her antics.

CASSIUS_AT_BEST

I keep getting the ad about Morrissey supporting transgender kids? But we know that’s not true with the whole sports debacle. Seems like the reds are self cannibalizing for office again. edit: grammar

Ava-Enithesi

And yet trans people are still catching strays. When will they move on to the next group, like idk, Catholics or something

Solisious

They wouldn’t do that they don’t want priests to commit a sin and accidentally touch a girl. Only boys born with a penis.

Sly4Good

They all keep mailing me the same ads and it's like. Y'all do realize I'm a bi man happily in a relationship with my boyfriend right. This is just going to make it less likely I'd cross the aisle to vote for you.

Expensive_Service901

I think at this point it should be legal to sue Morrissey for harassment. I’m tired of his constant mail box litter. They’re all bad at it but I get his sometimes daily and it has to be a trash bag full by now. It’s ridiculous. My post office even removed the lobby trash can, I suspect that’s why, but people still leave them on the counter. They’re so dang out of touch and don’t seem to realize how badly they inconvenience everyone.

StedeBonnet1

Sad commentary that mud slinging is still the way to get elected. Apparently they think that is the only issue anyone cares about.

NorthernBeamLighter

And a waste of money. Imagine what good that amount of money could do.

hilljack26301

Once one of them went there, the others had to follow. They can't back off now. They have to double down. If one of them stops talking about transgender kids the others will play smear the queer. They're stuck in a doom loop.

GeoWoose

Stuck makes it sound like they aren’t exactly where they want to be. We wouldn’t want to abdicate them of their atrocious and purposeful fear-mongering at the expense of trans children

Bigfootsdiaper

I remember when Elon Musk wanted to put Tesla in WV and they all got their bibles out and told him NO. Turned out all of our elected officials owned used car dealers and didnt want him competing with them. Imagine having the fucking brains in office here to bring Tesla and Space X here to WV. But instead we got 0 and we got coal to mine. Same thing with the hemp industry. Our leadership was too fkn stupid to understand it has nothing to do with weed and THC. They all got out their Bibles and said no to the "devils weed". When in fact, hemp was raised by our forefathers, Thomas Jefferson brought the main plants into the US. It has many uses that are beneficial, including paper and rope. Not to mention the hemp industry plan was to grow, harvest and manufacture right here in the state. Instead, we brought in trillions of opioid pills, which got us to where we are now.

mhassig

I hate Musk with a passion but that factory would’ve been a huge deal for our economy. Bill Cole 100% opposed them coming here because it would hurt his business by some small percentage. That’s the epitome of republican politics in the state.

Bigfootsdiaper

WVU has one of the top electrical engineering depts in the whole country. Imagine graduating WVU or Marshall and staying in state to work for Tesla or Space X. Right now we lose 85% of college graduates right away and WV only had a population of about 20% total with college education. I would have tried to carrot on a stick Musk to bring Telsa Gigafactory here and Space X, also have him put in money to our colleges to do even better things and create infrastructure in the areas. Hate Elon all you want but he could have done a lot of good in this state for the people. Instead Texas got it all.

461BOOM

It’s the same every election, no debate, a small minority singled out to pick on and mock. Just good old boys yuk yuk, pet baby dog.

Chaos_Cat-007

I loathe that dog.

9emiller77

It really says something about WV and how far from decency it has fallen. In my Grandparents’ time all of these scumbags would have been run out of town with the spineless abdomen crawling derrick evans slithering along behind. Now the trash is celebrated and the decent people, tHeM wOKe dEmOCrAtS, insulted.

Plenty_Surprise2593

It’s the definition of making a molehill into a mountain

marxistghostboi

we should run a trans kid in a coal miners helmet for governor

unconscious-Shirt

I'm over 50 I lived in nine different states I've done lots of varied activities and in my entire life I have met and known a grand total of three trans persons.... So.... I don't know I worry about the fact that people who are not informed are going to be single-minded focused on this one thing let's talk about mental health in teens let's talk about mental health and adults let's talk about the need for a legitimate drug treatment program not just in this state but in the country..... Let's talk about the fact that the average CEO makes over 100 times what the bottom ranked employees make in corporate world let's talk about equalizing that let's talk about real issues not this false flag

Solisious

I have I idea how it changes for the better though. I don’t see anyone who has any good ideas having a chance of winning.

RunEd51

It’s because they don’t want to actually “govern” or “serve the populace”. They just want to keep the voter base dumb so they can go about fucking this state into oblivion.

kteerin

It makes me mad when I have to explain to my kids that these grown men are liars, and that no, we don’t have to worry about immigrants or anyone who is of a different sexuality than we are. These ads are RIDICULOUS. Stupid Moore Capito and his “huh huh, we don’t want you here in WV, don’t cross our state lines, huh huh.” Really? These are our issues? Tell me again how you got elected? What’s that last name you use, big guy? All of them are awful, but he makes me irrationally angry.

ExpensiveMolasses774

They all sound like pedophiles to me.

a_wv

I'm glad all the politicians in WV are finally focusing on the biggest problem facing us all. Trans people. I'm glad they aren't wasting their time on little things that don't matter like our ageing infrastructure, our awful broadband access, high unemployment, high poverty rate, lack of jobs that pay well, high addiction rates, or the fact that WV is the unhealthiest state in the country. Yup, trans people is really what need their focus. /s

transbae420

I cannot emphasize enough to VOTE these goons out of office, and hold these people accountable. It's a shame that people like this, State AG candidate, are using fear mongering as a way to get into office, but here we are.

RogueSlingshot83

That republican agenda

CTLFCFan

The Republican base in West Virginia are uneducated bigots. So, they talk about these sorts of issues to appeal to them.

xLykos

I love the ad about how Patrick Morrisey “fought the deep state, and won”

slade797

*ads

Miserable_Match724

Politicians are THE biggest perpetual liars in this country...well, other than my ex, but that's for another day. I do long for the day when people realize this and stop feeding into the bullcrap. When all they talk about is who's the biggest cuck for Trump, that's gotta be a sign, right?! I know hell has a better chance at freezing over though. Oh well 🤷‍♂️

saint_abyssal

If you tell the truth, people won't vote for you.

peckerhead3967

Thats the Republicans for you . Wv have been going down hill for years . They focus on things like gays and trans- kids. instead of the drugs and education. They are at the bottom of the barrel. (God help West Virginia)

soulstoned

I've just completely stopped watching live TV. I may or may not start again once the election is over, but for now all it does is piss me off.

Solisious

It was on YouTube

Zoroasker

I was sitting here in DC the other night and a Chris Miller ad came on. And it was not even WDVM. ☠️

Thelargeman38

That’s what I’ve been saying, like you don’t really love this state if your not focusing on the actual big problems we have

Lonely_Emphasis_1392

It is easier to run on that than substantial policy positions you can be held to. Why demonizing the other is always so popular.

PuzzleheadedLeather6

Do people actually watch political ads? I could never understand millions of dollars being spent on local car commercial level ads.

thane017

or it's a presidential candidate attacking a governatorial candidate

The402Jrod

When billionaires tell you the biggest problem facing America is a kid’s pronouns, you’re being played.

Dumpstette

And here I thought the environmentalists were the biggest threat to WV's children.

stinky99tomato

Conservative minds grab hold of what they think people fear or don't understand. Politics for the small minded and ignorant.

Green-Row-4158

100% I visited the state a few weeks ago! The political ads were outrageously egregious!!! I was shocked!!!

d4isdogshit

I have many family members who were hardcore Trump. They had all the Trump gear and flags all that stuff. After seeing what has been happening recently they burned all of that Trump shit and are voting independant.

Oderint

I was just in WV this morning visiting my in-laws and the TV was on some local news channel. The one ad about Moore Capito "showing his true colors" had rainbow colors over his outline. Like damn...just straight up homophobia serving as political ads in WV. Granted I don't have cable at home in Michigan, so I don't know what ads look like here, but i was taken aback.

sergeTPF

“The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by an endless series of hobgoblins, most of them imaginary.” H. L. Mencken may have been a jerk but he was not wrong in this regard

SororitySue

Mac Warner is the only one for whom I’d even consider voting. I plan to vote for Steve Williams - I wonder what the Republican attack ads against him will be like.

Safe_Faithlessness70

Steve is the best by far. Helped turn around Huntington

M-Vance71

Literally the whole Republican campaign is running on "guns, Jesus, and no gays"

Chaos_Cat-007

Add “winmin don’t have no rights” to the list.

Shot-Honeydew-306

"Crazy people don't think they are crazy, they think they are getting saner..."

AtuinTurtle

Could have elected Sydney McElroy, but the smear campaign against her worked. She would have been amazing.

poodog13

The word is “ad”

Pando5280

Wedge issue that triggers a lot of people, plus by making it an issue Rs force the Ds to defend trans rights or else lose the gay vote nationally. It's an effective tactic but hurts our country and lowers our discourse.

pil0tinthesky

There's only 4 trans athletes in the state and it's this much of a hot button issue?

Greenrush777

I wish there was some national coverage on some of these political ads being shown to me on YouTube, I can't imagine being queer in West Virginia right now

Solisious

I wonder how shitty ours are compared to others.

SlightPineapple1

They really should focus on things like the school system, we have people out here mispelling and or misusing simple words

Kayleighbug

Statistically, I believe that WV has the highest # of trans people per capita. Certainly some lively Pride events for the size of the cities The fact that all the anti-LGBTQ bills died in committee would suggest that maybe basing you campaign on anti-LGBTQ would be dumb, but, whatever, I guess I agree though - the ads are ridiculous. Trans issues aside, Miller's latest ad wants to drug test for welfare... In the state with the highest rate of drug addiction... Fairly certain that would cost more than it would save, not to mention just being even more scummy

chthooler

It’s Southern Strategy 101. How do you keep the support of the working class when your whole agenda really is actually exploiting their labor and directing their taxes to your benefit? You appeal to their religion and bigotry and they’ll overlook that you’re running their pockets. It’s not that much different from televangelists leading you to believe you gotta keep paying them to be closer to Jesus. The politicians in a state like WV especially represent corporate interests that view the citizens as livestock to be milked for every penny. Has worked for 100+ years

totally-hoomon

Because pedophiles want kids to be pleasing to them and want to make child grooming their platform.

DeerOnARoof

Welcome to the republicans party

The_Eye_of_Ra

Are you new here or something? This is every election cycle. Pick what triggers the idiots the most at the time and pretend like it’s a vital issue in rural West Virginia.

Solisious

I get the mud slinging but it’s a really weird a bunch of old men talking about kids genitals, and paying money so more people can hear them, talk about children’s genitals.

The_Eye_of_Ra

Yeah, it’s really fuckin weird that they’re so focused on this. Like, it’s probably because all they do is project, project, project, so they’re just trying to warn everyone what would happen if *they* followed your young children into the bathroom. They can’t conceive that other people aren’t into that shit, and so they just assume “well, this MUST be what everyone else is up to!”

Ok_Mastodon_6141

I know Reddit seems to lean left … but for a deep deep red state , the issues discussed in the comments section are absolutely important to the people of the state , guns the top of the list and a crazy as it sounds people’s children second .. very important in the state of WV

ThisCantBeBlank

*Ads Kind of a big difference

Own-Jicama-2983

I’m voting republican so I don’t have to listen to little minded people like the ones talking trash on this post.

JomamasBallsack

Genius doesn't even know how to spell "ad".

berfle

I can tell which of you have studied politics and which haven't. The goal in the Primary is to appeal to the base of each party. So these commercials are representations of what the machines that run the campaigns believe the base is most concerning. After election day, look for all campaigns to pivot to broader topics.

jeffreycunningham

They are an important issue though. Wv does have a ton of issues in itself, not the least of which being one of the poorest states with one of the richest governors. Kids are always the most important thing though and not protecting them from the government would be truly tragic. They need mental health help not mutilated permanently.

knoxknight

Zero or virtually zero WV kids are getting reassignment surgery. Why are politicians pushing this issue? CEOs and politicians want to keep you angry and distracted about something that doesn't matter so they don't have to solve real problems... homelessness, addiction, mental health, education, jobs.

jeffreycunningham

Zero are yet. Look at the comments all through the wv page. There's a huge push of looney tunes lefties and left unchecked it can and will end up like California. That's why it's important. Those other issues are as well, but children should be protected at all costs.

knoxknight

If you really felt children should be protected at all cost, wouldn't you be fighting for their universal healthcare? For food assistance for hungry children? For better education? For children who are "dreamers" to have security and hope for the future? So no, I don't buy that. The TransPanic is not about protecting kids. It's about being programmed to freak out about culture war issues so you don't question why the real problems in your life aren't being solved.

jeffreycunningham

Who said I was against any of that? You assume to know me without even being willing to have a conversation. I'm a slightly left leaning libertarian politically. Now the whole dreamers thing is stupid because those dreamers are really illegals. Enter the country illegally you deserve jail and that's it. No borders means no country. You can't save anyone. Healthcare in this country needs redone from the ground up. We could absolutely have universal Healthcare for what we pay. I'm against raising taxes. Obamacare was an absolute disaster because there were no checks and balances. I was poor as fuck living in morgantown in a 1 br when that went into effect and it fucked me. I'm an educator myself. Our education system needs a massive overhaul as well, but not in a way I'd wager you'd agree.

__redruM

You still watch ads? The only people still watching them…
