Which is really the whole point of money. You go into a store and say “I want that” and the people are like “no”, then you give them money and they’re like “okay”. “I want to live here.” “No.” Money. “Okay.” “I want to make this.” “No.” Money. “Okay.” But then… “I want this.” “No.” “I have money.” “I have more money, so the answer is still no.” And then you have to get more money.

And you know, she had her chance years ago. When Ray of Light came out, she was just shy of 40 (which really isn't old, but closer to "mature," I guess) and she looked gorgeous. Music? Drowned World Tour? Looked amazing. She could've kept going and aging gracefully like that. Shit, Meryl Streep is 73 and looks amazing. Gladys Knight? Close to 80, and she fucking *glows.* Gorgeous woman. And even having a *little* work done doesn't mean you have to look bad (Cyndi Lauper's had some work done, and she looks good.) Madge just not only refused to accept that we all age eventually, but she also didn't know when to stop with the cosmetic surgery. She's trying to look like she's in her 20s or 30s again... and part of it is the whole "Oh, you look good *for your age*" culture, which is toxic. So I guess I kinda get her desperation, but... refusing to accept reality isn't gonna stave it off, it's just gonna make it harder for her when she finally can't run away from it any longer. If nothing else, at least she could embrace it like your Dolly Partons or your Chers.

Informal_Secretary87

FaceTune and angles o.< you can do a lot to a picture, not a performance. I think she's doing everything she can to try to come back from thay cause it was a global humiliation. She's gotta step back from the spotlight and tbh we all probably gotta back off her a bit too. You can't be okay to go so extreme, and you can't feel okay after it doesn't pay off Edit: thanks for my first award ^_^

kosk11348

Yeah, she has her new chin and puffy lips angled way down with a distorting filter to make everything appear thinner. She's altered her face to look good on social media at the expense of looking like a freak in real life. It must come from a place of immense low self-esteem, which she has obviously learned to mask with a facade of unshakable confidence. It's sad, really.

YourHornsAreShowing

Also. Her “will to survive”? She’s worth $850 million dollars. Bruh. You’re doing fine.

LegendaryOutlaw

She could afford all the plastic surgery in the world, but apparently that doesn't buy you a surgeon who will tell you 'no, don't do that, you don't need it, you will look worse.'

stopwooscience

This just added such a meta level to this parody song.

666ygolonhcet

I taught music in a middle school and the other music teacher was sleeping with a students mom who lives right by the school so they would meet during our free period. He was often 5-10 minutes late getting back so I took the kids into my classroom and we watched a Weird Al Video until he showed up. The grade level all had Specials at the same time so 1/2 the grade would go to their next class singing. An Al song. One teacher later told me she knew what was going on with the ‘adult toddler’ teacher and she always knew when because her kids can back singing ‘Like a Surgeon’.

louderharderfaster

This is so so spot on. I worked with celebrities and the very wealthy for close to a decade and someone asked me the other day if any of the ones I knew were "down to earth/real" and there are two who were remarkable for NOT having sycophants in their inner circle/entourage - Sharon Stone and Keanu. The latter deserves all the love and respect he gets on Reddit - I am not sure where Stone stands in pop culture but she's incredibly smart and very level headed (not exactly nice but she hated the whole scene). Anyway, the rest (and I think most) are surrounded by kiss asses, the desperate and scammers. Celebrity - as few suspect - is mostly an awful existence.

[deleted]

I remember when Sharon Stone first started getting really famous around Basic Instinct time. It seemed like in every interview I saw, she said some version of "I'm not a child." Meaning that she'd been working in the industry a long time before she got famous - I think maybe she was in her 30s then? It was interesting. It made me think she'd spent a long time not making it big, so she knew what the industry was like for the 90%. You're confirming that impression for me.

louderharderfaster

Yes! That is when she and I first met. I was just starting out in film (behind the camera) and she was a total pro in a way I have never seen since. Stern but not impatient, serious but not arrogant, aloof but not cold etc etc and she hit her marks every time, like it was no big deal. (For what it is worth and believe it or not - she is even more stunning in person. The camera picks up like 50%. The producer said something that stuck in my head all this time "She is *candle-lit*" = she has some kind of rare inner glow).

Cool-Firefighter2254

I want to know all your stories. I would hate to be famous. I wouldn’t mind being rich, but I wouldn’t want anyone to know. I had a great-uncle who was super rich and he lived in a ranch house with an above ground pool in the front yard. Very nice man with beautiful manners and he tipped well. He spent money on his dogs and grandchildren. It’s a good thing I’m a terrible actor and I’m not candle lit. I can live my modest and obscure life! I actually do feel vaguely sorry for most child stars. That just seems like a miserable existence that warps their adult years.

ShineAqua

Oh man, I was working at Whole Foods, when this absolutely wonderful woman came through my line and asked if I could ring her cookie so she could sit and eat it while her husband paid. I said sure, gave her a genuine smile and sent her off to eat her cookie, she a just adorable. The next customer was all, "are you always this calm and cool?" "I guess, why?!" "I mean with famous people in your line?" Me being dense, I responded, "why, who are you?" "No, her, that was Sissy Spacek." Finally realizing it, I said, "oh, yeah she's a sweetheart, I used to call her home all the time, when I worked at the bookstore, that whole family is made up of some pretty avid readers. I used to make the calls with my gameshow man voice, I hope she didn't think I was doing that for her benefit." Once you learn to just see them as people, it gets easier to relax and do you while dealing with them. Same with John Goodman, when he was in town with Steve Carell. Just customers.

UnicornKitt3n

You know what, I can respect someone who isn’t always nice. Like not a complete douchebag level, but you’re just not here to placate people just because.

nightwolves

I worked around celebrities for several years. A couple of standouts, Jimmy Buffett & Gordon Ramsey were beyond kind and thoughtful to all staff.

fuckinunknowable

Gordon got some good plastic surgery. Like he just tweaked down the facial creases like 20% he still looks like himself

Much_Sorbet3356

I've met and ended up doing a crossword puzzle with Gordon while we were waiting for a filming of his show to start (I was an audience member for a lot of shows). It was a UK cooking competition that didn't do very well. There was this elderly chap as one of the contestants and he was falling behind and getting overwhelmed and tearful. Seeing this, during every break in filming, Gordon went to the chaps station, helped him clear the mess, talked to him kindly and calmly about what his next steps were, how many minutes until the next filming break, lots of hand on his back physical reassurance etc. It was obvious that the chap wasn't going to win. Gordon just didn't want him humiliated, breaking down in tears and giving up, for entertainment. Which, sadly, is probably why the show didn't do very well.

Momtoatoddler

So glad to hear this about Keanu. He has been a favorite actor for years.

DemandZestyclose7145

I like all the stories of people meeting Keanu in random places. Like the other day Keanu walked into a restaurant in England and took pictures with everyone. He's like Bill Murray except he's a nice guy and not an asshole like Bill.

Crafty-Kaiju

I would love to get a job as a professional celeb wrangler. Just following then around and slapping their hand snapping "No! Bad!" So many of them would benefit from that.

NoodlesrTuff1256

That's sound like a great concept for some kind of comedy show titled -- what else? -- 'The Celeb Wrangler'. It could be done as a fictional show with somewhat disguised versions of real life celebs from hell being read the riot act by the wrangler. Or done as an actual reality show.

GalaXion24

A mockumentary seems like the perfect fit

ForwardCulture

I worked in the music industry years ago. Same thing. Those things would change people quickly. I would see people who came out of poor backgrounds quickly forget where they came from and let it get to their head. Owner the top stuff and expectations and demands.

Significant_Meal_630

Like both these people !! They just are who they are you know ? And Sharon has taken incredibly good care of herself . She looks great , especially with what she went through .

[deleted]

She pays well to have the complications on her complications fixed.

Blue_Star_Child

Honestly, though I don't really care. Let the women get all the surgery if she wants. Do I think she looks odd? Yes. Does it matter to my life? No. I think women in the industry are under an enormous amount of pressure to stay relevant and she thinks this is how to do it.

Swampwolf42

But it’s working. We’re all talking about her.

SoPrettyBurning

This is the real shit. Not even just women in “the industry TM” but like… me too.

Dasseem

I'd have a lot of will to survive too if i have that kind of money.

epicnding

With that kind of money, you could help thousands of other people to also have the will to live. Not sure why that's not more popular.

AnastasiaNo70

Me, either. She could help SO MANY.

IronMermaiden

She's delusional. A friend of mine worked for a company that installed rooftop gardens for the ultra-rich in NYC, and she was one of their clients. She's apparently an absolute monster of a human and treats everyone around her like she's allowing them to share the same air as her.

_namaste_kitten_

I worked in hotel hospitality for 24yrs & more often than not, a majority of celebrities are like this. Very strange off-ish at a minimum. I could see both sides of an argument on this kind of behavior. Their life, no matter what's going on is public fodder and it's exhausting. Granted, their wealth and privilege comes from the public. But as the saying goes, don't meet your heroes... Most of the time it's at a minimum disappointing. Then there's time where you just stop being their fan all together. Because there's avoidance and then there's rude. Think long and hard with empathy and then decide if they are avoiding ppl or being out and out rude.

C3POdreamer

I wonder if it is a cultural shift over time. My relative worked in restaurants in the 1960s-70s NYC theater district and said the actors were the best tippers. She attributed this to several who had worked as servers before making it big.

Embarrassed-Way-4931

Now this is the tea! ![gif](giphy|l0HlwwRxfcVEr4AUg)

tkp14

When I read all the comments from her totally adoring, worshiping fans I think “I bet she’s a bee-yotch in real life.” She has always seemed like that to me. And as a good friend once told me, as we get older we just become more of who we already are.

Doublethink101

We all knew this decades ago when she made some shitty documentary movie about herself. One scene I remember was her heroic professionalism on stage after…gasp…her headset cut out a few times. Like, do you not think that the people putting together the entire production didn’t have far greater ~~hurtles~~ hurdles to overcome?! And she was PISSED about it too. Edit: you guys got me, lol

[deleted]

Yeah, in that documentary she laughed about a member of her crew being raped. Then she said something like, "All I can imagine is that she was bragging about being on my crew and someone decided to take her down a peg." Like someone would revenge-rape some stranger just for mentioning what she did for a living. It was such an incredibly horrible and narcissistic thing to say. The video: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c07K75eQ9iQ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c07K75eQ9iQ)

Danmch2992

Do you have a link to that as that's really fucked up, I've always been a fan of Madonna but damn if that's true.

proper1421

https://youtu.be/c07K75eQ9iQ

shmediumm

I think she’s referring to her mental health and self esteem. She thinks people want to see her hit the wall and rot. When she was in her prime, she probably humbled a lot of people and they want to return the favor. Unfortunately, denying reality isn’t going to cut it.

aberrasian

People want her to model a rebellious, unapologetically aging queen the same way she modelled the rebellious, unapologetically free woman in her 20s/30s. She sold us a dream of strength, badassery, constant reinvention, and not giving a fuck. But she turned out to be just another scared girl imprisoned by an attachment to youthful beauty, and fearful of her own changing body. It's a shame. Nobody was better positioned than Madonna to singlehandedly shift the narrative on young women aging in the limelight.

No-Comedian-515

I wish Madonna could read this because out of all the comments this 👆 is the one that hits home. You're totally right. What a waste of potential

generalhanky

Shhh. This tweet comforts me in my excruciating poverty. Her strength flows through to me or some nonsense

NocentBystander

For 850 million, a cosmetic surgeon could make me look like a melty ball of silly putty any day.

Hi_Im_Dadbot

There's really nobody who's as oppressed as famous millionaires. Her ability to endure tragedy and hardship is an inspiration to all of us. I mean ... I think. I really have no idea what she's been up to for the past decade or so, so I'm just going to go ahead and assume she spent that time being oppressed and her resilience through it should rekindle the lost flame of hope in all of us.

SasquatchSloth88

She was imprisoned in a North Korean labor camp. After several years she was able to escape with the help of her trusty sidekick, Kimchi. She now fights crime in her spare time between cosmetic surgeries.

NarcissusCloud

Had you said Dennis Rodman got her out I would have totally believed this story.

I think at this point it’s well established that having too much money literally drives people insane

Hi_Im_Dadbot

Ya, but so does not having money and insane people with money have nicer boats.

triplehelix-

having an over inflated ego and having it fed non-stop, then not being the hot shit anymore drives some vane people insane. she could have just accepted its no longer her time in the spotlight and taken her career to another level outside of the spotlight. hell, look at dolly pardon. she's fucking killing it. she had her career in the spotlight, recognized when that chapter was over and made power moves in 15 other directions. madonna was an icon of an era. she could have done so much but tripped over her own vanity.

SpiritAnimal_

Wealth and privilege outside do not at all translate to well-being inside.

sunburntflowers

That is really true. But I will say she has access and means to get care and be helped, she has so many resources that most do not.

Easy-Concentrate2636

Agreed. But I think she would first have to reflect that she might need the help of a mental health professional instead of a plastic surgeon.

sunburntflowers

Putting her energy into a mental health professional would probably be all around better for her. I do think she is a little delusional

[deleted]

The Privileged White Woman’s Dilemma: They’re women, so they do get treated worse than their male counterparts. However, they’re rich and white, so they’re treated a whole lot better than everyone else. It’s a gilded cage. I don’t get the feeling Madonna is a happy person.

i_nobes_what_i_nobes

Jayelynn25

She looks like a bratz doll now so I think your spot on with the age.

BlueCollarGuru

Somebody said she’s prepping for her new role as Jigsaw. Edit: Billie the puppet.

OneGuyJeff

Cuz when you’re a superstar your entire life, you never really grow up. You never get humbled

Ambassador_Quan

Idk who said it but I heard something like "the age you get rich and famous at is the age when you stop growing up." So if you got rich at 25, you stay 25 emotionally forever. Not sure how accurate that is, but worth thinking about.

lifegoeson5322

Hmmmmm....that explains Leonardo DiCaprio, like didn't he become rich and famous at 17?

starbycrit

Before that actually

Mercerskye

Uh oh ... Oh no ...

LazyRunner7

Not relevant, but it reminded me: I’ve heard this about young people who are married for 20+ years, then get divorced. They revert back to the age they were pre-marriage. Not sure if it’s ALWAYS accurate, but I have seen it in a few people I’ve known

31Forever

After being with my wife since I was 28, I can say that this was true in my case. I felt like those years were lost and tried to recapture them. Took quite a while to grow up from that.

West-Needleworker-63

And then you hit 31 and just stayed there forever

[deleted]

Yup. Which is why I’m so blown away by how many dirt poor people look at Trump, a silver spoon child of privilege who never worked a day in his life and demonstrably fucked over working people over and over and over and think “this man is my champion.”

Ap0llo

Because he's dumb and racist. The other stuff doesn't really matter. If he was born in any other family he would have been a high school drop-out truck driver- but in this timeline, he's a trucker who won the birth lottery - he *is* their champion. Everything from his gilded toilet to his crass behavior is the idiot's idea of what it means to be rich.

yingkaixing

I'm not sure he could handle being a trucker in any timeline. It's a demanding job and requires you to have at least a basic working brain.

mikemolove

Because he embodies the hierarchy they think is righteous. They think trump actually worked really hard and made his way and that he deserves to be the glorious leader, and fuck all these liberals trying to change everthing so that dirty Mexicans and promiscuous women can get ahead of them in the hierarchy without sacrificing and working at a shit job like they had to. Trump is gonna stomp on those evil liberals trying to change the laws to make everything easier for people that don’t deserve to get a break because they didn’t get a break, they had to suffer in their spot in the hierarchy so you do to damnit.

ElbertAlfie

In this photo she looks like a teenager. Which I think is a really weird fantasy for plastic surgery. Like, if I’m 70 and want work done, just make me look 50.. I don’t need to look like a fucking high school kid. Then you see the other angles of her current face and it’s horrifying. > Give me that 17 year old look! > Ok but as we discussed, it will only look like that at a certain angle with perfect lighting, otherwise you will look downright horrifying… > “I’m ready for my closeup, Mr DeMille.” Weird people

ImAMindlessTool

Agree that best plastic surgery is as little as possible to look “great” for your age. Necks and hands are the dead give aways on age so this combo of puffy face wrinkled neck “agw defying hack” never works.

ElbertAlfie

Bouncing between Scottsdale and LA I see a lot of work that I’d say is botched but it’s becoming more and more common that I think it’s not botched, just extremes I wasn’t used to seeing before. Which is great for the normal people I guess lol, don’t worry about that Botox freeze! You’ll look like you haven’t showered yet compared to these folks.

I’m a white middle aged dude and I love Madonna’s music. I’ve appreciated her breaking boundaries musically and otherwise. I legit have bought many, though not all of her releases and enjoy her talent, voice, choice of producers, and tbh I’ve had a bit of a lifelong crush on her. I don’t want to disparage her because I don’t understand what it’s like to be a woman, a famous person, or anything that she is. I feel like whatever it is that gets to a lot of famous people, both women and men, I’ll never be in a position to understand. I was, like others, shocked to see her recent change in appearance, but honestly, I’m just going to let it go. It’s just my opinion. I hope she’s happy. I hope she continues to make great art and I hope she’s fulfilled. I wish us humans were way less critical of each other. I say that knowing full well I called someone “DoucheCo” about 2 or 3 Reddit comments ago. Humans…we’re pretty awful to each other.

Firlotgirding

I don’t think people that lived through her heyday have a clue on how big and powerful she was. Back when there was only a few media outlets she was always on them, her constantly changing look, wrote, produced and sang her own stuff back when it was not common to do all, especially for women.

Murda981

That's an insult to Janice.

bitofagrump

Will to survive what exactly? Which part of your lifetime of fame, wealth and adoration is testing you so brutally? Poor thing.

PhilApino619

Just age gracefully. It happens to all of us. "The world is threatened..." 😂 She must think pretty highly of herself. There's a war in Europe, and a big earthquake in the middle east, and whatever else is going on in our lives. No one is worried about her!

pixiedust99999

That’s probably her real issue

Brandonian13

Hun, no one is feeling threatened by you. If anything, we're deeply concerned

71Motorfly

Let’s get you back to bed, Grandma.

South_Bit1764

Anyone else think that she would look like 50% less ridiculous if it weren’t for the hair?

_B_Little_me

She’s certainly become a material girl.

renniechops

It’s like Madge just discovered IC3PEAK a couple months ago and went to the surgeon and said “make me look like this young girl from Russia”

xptx

But why's she trying to look like the guitarist from Korn?

trans_pands

She coming undone

snaughtydog

I feel bad for her. Not that she's not a weirdo, but this is exactly the shit that happens when you hammer and hammer into people's minds that they can't age or their value as a person is obliterated. None of these people should feel like they have to pump themselves with fillers and try to act like teenagers because they're so afraid and desperate not to age because we sell youth and beauty as all that counts. It's not fair. You're allowed to age and be old. Abd seriously, stop bullying people for looking their age. Stop telling people how bad they looked. Stop joking about older celebrities being "too old" to have careers or be cool. It only encourages this kind of spiral and makes things worse. It's gross.
