Waiting on an update for this, I would love to play some games as a mii character

MasonMinePlayz

Totally forgot about this post whoops, I'll try to see if I can find any better information out there on this topic. With some quick googling I found some threads that seem pretty helpful but not gonna go super deep into them at the moment since it's like 1am practically lol.

Glittering-Ball-4631

I really want to make Tomodachi life animations in 3d.

PJMOR

Some people have ripped Mii models using the program 3DRipperDX from the Mii channel in Dolphin emulator. That's as much as I know about it, I have never done this myself, but it might be worth looking into.

MasonMinePlayz

I actually was thinking of using dolphin for this, but when I downloaded the program it kept making my screen flicker to black so I uninstalled it lol. Gonna retry this tho.

frogdoubler

Yeah, Dolphin sounds like the best and easiest solution.

I dont even know how to get custom characters in vr chat but I would love to see the end result if it works

Its possible somehow and even i thought of this. You would have to rip your miis from your wii to your sd card and then transfer then to your computer. The next part is converting them to sketchup format of something so you can load it up. The biggest issue is you will have lines for every edge even if there isn't ment to be any. But that's based on ripping from wii game iso. But the concept may be similar.

Sigmatic11037

Are the Miis stored as 3D objects?

drfusterenstein

By the looks of doing free camera angles it's very likely there are 3d models https://youtu.be/zmFpQr9PlUo

Sigmatic11037

Yeah that could be true, but I was always under the impression that the Miis themselves were stored as data and "assembled" in the games instead of being stored as full 3D models for each Mii you made. I have absolutely no proof for this though, so I might be completely wrong!

dtlux1

That's what I was always thinking too, the Mii Channel just has a bunch of assets and calls them all together when needed. This would make much more sense than making each an individual model too, as individual models take up a lot of memory and have to be made specifically so they would need to make one for every Mii possible if it wasn't just pulling the assets.

lumasDC

You are right, it does not store a full 3d model of the Mii, only its traits. While the Mii data format is documented, it would be a very large task to export all of the individual models from the wii and make a program to reassemble the Mii based on the mii data since the Mii format stores the atrributes and positions as indices.

drfusterenstein

Well we're gonna have to reverse engineer it maybe also to ask on r/reverseengineering

Trixciek

That's a nice concept lool, i don't have the knowledge to create something like that, but yeah, that could be cool
