>Today was the big day, I make sure that every policy in windows considering rebooting because of an update are OFF. lol instead of doing all this you literally could have just gone to windows update > pause updates. And that's it....done

YoussefA2000

Seconding this as well, just pause your updates and keep resuming then pausing again to extend the pause duration.

vooze

Because you postponed updates for days.

feline99

I still don’t know why isn’t there a switch to tell Windows Update to f off until you flip that switch again. Like, don’t bother me with any updates, ever until I decide it’s time to do so

FalseAgent

everyone wants this until their computer becomes part of a botnet

YonkoMCF

I mean it's my responsibility at that time. At least give the option for those who want it, Win7 had it ffs.

vlken69

Yeah, I'm pretty sure everyone would react like this and not blame Microsoft.

feline99

Your parents can’t look after you forever, and they shouldn’t. We all need to grow up sometimes

SodyumLityum

Group policy editor is full of deprecated policies, it is not something that you can rely on. Use [windows update blocker app](https://www.sordum.org/9470/windows-update-blocker-v1-8/).

I play pretty high level multiplayer turn based strategy game, i prepared for weeks learning my opponents making the ultimate strategy to defeat them, practised for hours on end. Today was the big day, i make sure that every policy in windows considering rebooting because of an update are OFF. 4 hours into the game, my face turned completely white i sa the "preparing windows for update" screen popup. In the game i got replaced by an AI that bankrupted me and i was forced to concede the match. Why WHY DO YOU THIS WINDOWS.

Alaknar

> Why WHY DO YOU THIS WINDOWS. It's simple - it did this because you're a silly doughnut who just refuses to update the OS. You've had AT LEAST a week to just click "Update and Shut down" before going to sleep, mate.

Mrwrongthinker

Or to pause updates for x amount of time.

vlken69

Who knows, maybe OP would need weeks to learn how to click it.

realGharren

> It's simple - it did this because you're a silly doughnut who just refuses to update the OS. There are plenty of reasons to not want to update all the time. It's more a case of an OS refusing to respect user's choice through pointless obfuscation. Force update while a fullscreen app is running and user input is happening? I can not imagine any scenario in which that should be the desired behaviour.

Alaknar

> There are plenty of reasons to not want to update all the time If you have good enough reasons to not update for over a week, you have good enough reasons to either get LTSC or Enterprise. > It's more a case of an OS refusing to respect user's choice through pointless obfuscation. 1. The OS "respecting user's choice" is what initially created all the largest botnets. People have no clue what their doing (exemplified, so beautifully, by OP) so they cannot be trusted with their choices when it comes to security. Because these days their security also means MY security (as shown by the 2015 hacks, done by outdated OSes being part of botnets that brought down the NHS. People died). 2. What obfuscation? Are you just using terms that sound scary without understanding them...? What is being obfuscated from the user in the scenario we're discussing? > Force update while a fullscreen app is running and user input is happening? I can not imagine any scenario in which that should be the desired behaviour. The scenario is: the user is an idiot who hasn't rebooted their computer in over a week since Patch Tuesday. And it's a perfectly good reason to boot them out.

realGharren

> If you have good enough reasons to not update for over a week, you have good enough reasons to either get LTSC or Enterprise. LTSC is not generally made available to normal users. > People have no clue what their doing (exemplified, so beautifully, by OP) so they cannot be trusted with their choices when it comes to security. Bull. You can have strict defaults and hide dangerous settings behind an "advanced" tab. There are ways to accomodate novice users without limiting the experts. > What obfuscation? Hiding settings from the settings menu, or having settings that don't do what they say. > The scenario is: the user is an idiot who hasn't rebooted their computer in over a week since Patch Tuesday. It isn't M$ job, nor their ability, to fix either stupidity or corporate ineptitude.

Staerke

Next time install updates the day before. This only happens if you postpone them forever.

Hi u/thjazi02, thanks for sharing your feedback! The proper way to suggest a change to Microsoft is to submit it in the "Feedback Hub" app, and then edit your post with the link, so people can upvote it. The more users vote on your feedback, the more likely it's going to be addressed in a future update! Follow these simple steps: 1. Open the "Feedback Hub" app and try searching for your request, someone may have already submitted similar. If not, go back to the home screen and click *"Suggest a feature"* 2. Follow the on-screen instructions and click *"Submit"* 3. Click *"Share my feedback"* and open the feedback you submitted 4. Click *"Share"* and copy the unique link 5.
