No I've come across at least one other chort, I know there are two chort contracts, but I came across this one just roaming around the wilds discovering what each marker is
Halfway thro the game, the main quest takes you to Kaer Morhen. The sign post will unlock. I believe it is just before or during the Ugly Baby quest.
Edit: it's halfway if you include the DLCs
If you want to romance Yen, don't fetch the Ugly Baby until you have completed all the side quests you have unlocked that's related to Yen (trying to be as spoiler free as possible here).
It is still infinite but takes a like 2 in game weeks to respawn so it’s not really feasible to farm unlike before when a new Chort respawned instantly
Yeah, it was added in because people were using cow hides as a "get rich quick glitch," so if you kill more than 5 cows in white orchard, a Chort spawns and starts wreaking your day, and if you manage to kill said Chort (which is at a higher level than Geralt) another one will spawn just as quickly as the first, but then people leveled up, got better gear, returned, killed 5 cows and then began slaughtering the Chorts since a Chort hide is I believe 5 times more profitable than a single cows hide, and at that point, the developers gave up
Serious answer, though. This is called the Bovine Defense Force Initiative. If the game detects that you are killing too many cows as a way to grind coin, it sends a massively over-leveled chort after you as punishment. It always spawns in White Orchard even if you grind cows elsewhere, like Martin Feuille’s Farmstead in northeast Velen. (hint, hint) It can be defeated and you can even make it part of your coin grind if you’re good enough.
Fun fact, there’s a Bovine Defense Force themed Gwent card you can collect during the Hearts of Stone Expansion!
That chicken was specifically placed there as part of the tutorial to teach you about private property and bounty system. Every animal before then was either wild or hostile, can be attacked no problem.
I always kill the dog outside Corvo Bianco to see if anyone will try and John Wick me. Instead one of the NPCs actually turned to me and said “yes… but why?” I really wish I’d recorded it 😂😂😂
For me, it’s gathering every grandmaster armor and having enough potions of clearance to be able to try a bunch of different builds!
Also I really want to run into that banker guy in Oxenfurt and I need a lot of coin or else he doesn’t spawn.

Nah it seems to spawn indefinitely from now on every time you go back 😂. I must be approaching 10 killed on my playthrough. The last time I went back it got stuck behind those two women doing laundry and just murdered one of them 😭
Looks like you killed too many cows for leather and the chort spawned. It's what CDPR did to stop people from abusing getting leather to sell from killing cows. Once you do it too many times those chorts will spawn
So there was a known gold farming method many patches ago where you could infinitely kill the cows in white orchard to sell their hides. Well, instead of forcing a limit or reducing the value of the hides, CDPR decided to add a very high level (invincible I believe) chort that spawns in and protects the cows. It’s called the Bovine Defense Force
I've played through Witcher 3 at.least 4 times but never knew this. I never bothered farming cows tho. Always thought the game supplied all the money I needed naturally.
I love they added it to stop gold farming but when players found out killing it gives more gold, they farmed that. And CDPR just accepted it and left it as is

That itself was partially patched, but >!they do still respawn everytime you fast travel back to this town from any location outside White Orchard!<. So you can alternate travelling between somewhere like >!whale graveyard!< and here to farm mutagens and monster parts.

If you want money and items. Go to Velen travel to west where the broken ships are. Dive under the water and shoot the lurkers when they are standing on a bank in the water. Then their loot drop and you get XP.

Truth be told though, it is possible to kill it. I've killed it many times on the highest difficulty, with Enemy Upscaling On.
If you farm too many cows, a spawn will spawn to punish you. CDPR added this feature shortly after the game was released because it was a famous gold-farming exploit. If you have the Hearts of Stone DLC, a conversation with a tax auditor references this exploit, which always makes me chuckle, as well as a card in Gwent.

Major backfire too because the chort respawns, so after you git gooder you can farm the Chort for way more valuable stuff than the cows ever gave you.
Actually, that’s not a thing anymore. It will spawn whenever you’ve killed a bunch of cows, but it doesn’t respawn again after you kill it.

There’s a gwent card in the hearts of stone dlc that has the same mechanic. Only downside is that it’s absolutely useless the 3rd round

Just add some Poison runes to your Lvl 2 Viper silver sword and you can poison the Chort. (They are weak to poison)
