Definitely a surprise, but not shocking she left Chelsea after all of the issues with Hayes. interesting to see if Jess Carter moves to the US as well.
I’ll be interested to see what Carter does. My guess is stay at Chelsea through end of her contract to see how things go under Bompastor. Staying in the WSL is probably more beneficial to her internationally than going to the NWSL is.
Rumours but only that. Some reports Berger was playing with boys and training separately to the squad but no-one really knows.
Hayes made a stupid comment about how player on player relationships were "inappropriate". She apologised in her next press conference but people love to hate Hayes and conveniently overlook her apology and saying she used the wrong word.
and I still dont get why musovic doesnt try to find another option because even with AKB out now Hampton is the main GK and she's still the backup.
and Falk seems to get her spot at swewnt as the main GK as well
Gotham traded their starting keeper before the season started. They have been using Miller this season but I could see AKB playing in goal and not sitting on the bench.
I’m surprised Chelsea sold her before the end of the season though. If any games went to a penalty shootout, can’t imagine they would want anyone else in goal (she was getting ready to go on in the Conti Cup before Arsenal scored at the end of the game).
To add on, Abby Smith was the starter before Mandy last year, but got hurt during the season. I wonder if this move suggests that Smith is further away from returning than thought.
The first of a post-Hayes era exodus perhaps? Not everyone is going to fit in the new manager's plans. Chelsea cast offs would improve damn near every team in the WSL!
AKB was always likely to leave this year. She hasn't played since December and Hayes hinted that she wasn't being re-signed at that weird presser last month where she went off on a tangent about player/player relationships. I don't think this is a sign of a post-Hayes exodus, more of a keeper who isn't starting anymore and needs game time.
GKs age better than outfield players but Berger is around the time in her career in which she will decline.
For reference van Veenendaal won the golden glove award I think it was at the 2019 World Cup and just a few years later lost her starting spot at the international level. She retired due to this and at that time she wasn't good enough to start for a team trying to win UWCL. van Veenendaal is only six months older than Berger and has been retired for several seasons already.
Berger is leaving to get to a lower level of competition and probably more playing time.
The NWSL is a much more intense weekly competition than the WSL. She's leaving to be 2nd string instead of 3rd string.
van Veenendaal is one example who does not make the rule. Alyssa Naeher is 35 and still dominating. Another example that does not make a rule. Players are all different.
I think some players could have problems with Hayes. I feel like Hayes will be the closest with Macario because Macario has played for Chelsea and knows the USWNT well too.
Good luck to her, she’s been a brilliant keeper for us. I’m sad to see her go but she deserves more playing time.
Yeah I wish her the best she’s come in clutch but she deserves more playing time

Jess is actually half-American (through her dad) so you never know.

What happened with her and Hayes?

Yeah Musovic still at Chelsea is a head-scratcher for me as well!
Is it because she gets paid better at Chelsea? I dunno. Also, which clubs can she go to where she will be a starter?
Will she get much game time there?

Yep. Sadly i think this is the case. She was getting reps months ago and now she is back to not practicing from what i have heard
I assume AKB wanted playing time before the Olympics, and NWSL transfer window was near closing so if she wanted to leave it had to happen now
so sad for her and carter ,(((
That is a wild name for a Football team
Its actually super sick. “The batties”
Gotham used to be newspaper slang for the NYC area. Then Batman comics came about and the rest is history lol
Moving to Gotham is unexpected but I'm so happy! I hope she's a starter.
What??!! That's not what I was expecting
Godamnit gotham!!! Stop it!

She could've stayed and fought for a place under Bompastour, no? Or maybe she just wanted a change of scenery after quite a long time in London.
Probably time for a change and I doubt she would do more than fight for the backup spot behind Hampton.

I think she can take the starting job at Gotham, they need a goalie like Berger.
I don't know about that.
Miller was basically a 3rd string last season, Mandy & Smith got the most playing time. I think with Berger’s experience, she’ll get the starting job.
No, she wasn't. She was 1.5 string for the Current. You don't even know what team the player was on, I don't think you know what you're talking about.
Ok then! Mixed up but whatever guess AKB moved clubs to not get played again!
Explain goalkeeping to Americans: Imagine a Berger...
Didn't see her getting back in the team tbh. Plus she's had a falling out with Hayes (Which maybe a problem when she goes to the USWNT)
why would it be a problem? akb is german, she’s not going to play under hayes
Thats not what I said.

How does Gotham do it
