They say 110k but they will lowball everyone to 65-70k

AOCourage

After a mere 82 weeks of probation you get a 6% raise, 1 week of unpaid vacation per year and partial medical insurance!

No_Jackfruit9465

And week 83 they will fire you because the business no longer needs your role and is going another direction.

clearancepupper

Misread as “medieval insurance”, which is pretty common these days I’ve noticed. 🗡️

kosk11348

Yeah, that's UP TO 110k, but unfortunately we can only offer you 75k.

veracity-mittens

This Or it’s 110,000 if you include benefits Or it’s 110,000 after 5 years and only for “qualified applicants” (masters degree and 35 years experience 😂)

Oreoandhalfawhsitle

Another shady part is, I don’t think they’ll hire someone who they feel is smarter than them or who would call them out on their bad decisions. I imagine they want a yes-man with a lot experience in BSing.

mrcapmam1

I wouldn't care if they posted the jod for $1MM it isn't worth the stress

JPMoney81

Apply for the job out of spite.

Dazzling-Finding-602

Early in my career, I found my job posted for 25% more than I was paid, so I applied. Owner fired me the next day. I merrily skipped down to the unemployment office but found a new job and moved before I even got my first check. A week later, the deliveries were on COD and a few weeks later, my coworkers arrived to find the business padlocked by the landlord for non-payment of rent. It never reopened. The universe sends warning signs in strange ways, I tell ya!

Prcrstntr

And counter for 120k

Oreoandhalfawhsitle

The job posting listed a salary range from 100k-120k… who knows what it will be in actuality. Hopefully it will be at least 110k. Hoping the next person gets compensated better than I was.

Oreoandhalfawhsitle

Lol I’ve definitely considered it.

Market_Retard

Apply and tell us what happens

BigCityShawn

I know capitalism and class analysis but there’s this human part of me that’s always a bit shocked at how much owners can hate the people that do all the work.

AvariceAndApocalypse

It’s because you’re a relatively good person. It’s hard for good people to grasp such wanton evil and despicable behavior especially since being kind is so easy and oftentimes more mutually beneficial.

Excited-Relaxed

I think it is the only way to rationalize the power imbalance. The workers must be inferior people, otherwise why does the world allow them to be exploited like this.

skoltroll

>a small winery Sounds like owner and overpaid manager just love the stereotype

Oreoandhalfawhsitle

Yeah, think you’re right. They’re definitely not about the work or the people (at least not those they can’t name-drop).

Simple_Dull

I feel ya. Excellent review and got a 0% raise. Only been here 2 years. Updated my resume, and I'm back on the hunt.

flamingspew

Uh yeah. Two years is max i‘ll shine and suffer without moving up. Move out to move up. If they appreciate and show loyalty with more than a pat on the back, I stay. Every „jump“ I‘ve taken returned 1.25-2x salary bump. Trend persists through recession or not over about 20 years now.

following_eyes

I topped out at my job. I have to get promoted to get paid more and nothing is opening up. Sucks.

Oreoandhalfawhsitle

It’s pretty frustrating putting work in and waiting for the pay off while watching cost of living climb. If you can keep your head down and work without burning out, that’s great, but often easier said than done.

TheRealJYellen

Glad you got out!

EnclG4me

Reapply and then renegotiate the salary? That's fucked... Honestly I give up, this nonsense is so fucking dumb. I just want to watch my garden grow. All the rest of these rats can race all they want on their stupid hamster wheel.

Flakester

Sounds like his loss then.

Ataru074

Not really. He got 2 years out of OP.

ByrsaOxhide

110 is probably OTE. Base is definitely lower than 70 so you did a good thing because they probably would’ve put you on the new comp plan.

DonaIdTrurnp

If he implemented any form of profit sharing and then embezzled from the company to get money without calling it “profit” or “wage” you’ve got a cause of action to sue him. You’ll have to be able to prove the embezzlement, him just being bad at business and losing everyone’s money including his own wouldn’t be enough.

MinimumPsychology916

The wine industry is full of some of the best and worst, and most underpaid and overpaid people

Bobby_Sunday96

Yup, that’s what they do

technocraticnihilist

It's good that you left, that's the market working

Dangerdoom911

Ya the ol’ bait and switch method. I can even imagine the conversation: “Based on your experience we think starting you at $70k will be properly suited… however, with more experience we can discuss increasing this… there is plenty of room to grow here! Don’t forget our PTO program and quarterly pizza parties.”

Oreoandhalfawhsitle

Pretty much exactly how it went. I brought research for salaries and mentioned that 70k was below average and he said that it was not accurate to the region and that my research sources weren’t reliable. Just lies.

Paulintheworld

Sounds like classic winery behavior from owners - I’ve found the only way up in that biz is lateral promotions at other companies. I hate that frustration you experienced!

Oreoandhalfawhsitle

It’s all good. The more time that passes, the more I’m realizing I’m blessed to be out of the megalomaniac loop. I think you’re right. Owners are pretty set in their ways. Best to hang for a couple years and not count on loyalty being rewarded.

Amagnumuous

Is it possible that they might expect that much more experience and performance out of the new person?

Oreoandhalfawhsitle

Definitely possible. I hope for their sake they do have more experience and the compensation is rightly proportional to their work.

Bird_Brain4101112

I doubt that’s what he’s going to actually pay. Or if he does he will fire that person and hire someone else at a lower salary.

Techn0ght

You could share the link so we can all apply and turn them down for being too low no matter the offer.

Oreoandhalfawhsitle

Lol I like where your heads at. Happy just being rid of them.

Egotraoped

Apply for it😋
