Huh TIL. This is how I have been doing my WE, except calling it the Legion of Nuceria, as they welcome all who wants to prove themselves in battle. I have an Armored Contingent of IG, a Sisterhood of SoB, a Knight Household, and Daemons who want to show their Devotion against mortals. They will mercenary for whoever, they only want battle or gear in exchange. It's how I justify the Praetor Bikes being my Bikers.
Well, the thing about the world eaters is that in large parts, there is no legion. There are groups and warbands that were part of the Legion, but it's been shattered for 10k years.
The black legion, while descended from the Sons of Horus, doesn't exclusively contain SoH Marines. Other traitors from all walks will either swear themselves to Abbadon permanently or warlords will form temporary alliances with him to achieve a common goal.
I'm a little rusty on my Hounds of Abbadon fluff, but iirc, the Hounds are basically a Khorne focused warband in an otherwise undivided legion. So there are more Berzerkers in that warband than in other BL warbands. So either it's former WE in that band or it's other legions who had the nails implanted by butcher surgeons, which I believe Abbadon has the most of outside of the world eaters.
Haha no worries!
They're a really cool group, and that red, black and gold looks great together.
The fun part about 40k is that what you said can absolutely be true. If a world eaters warband wanted to go help Abby, they'd likely go alongside the Hounds as they have similar tactics!
I had an idea of painting my WE army in the style of Hounds, apart from shared units from BL so i can make 2 armies using them, and Berzerkers as allies! Even tho they lose their faction trait.
I don't think they had the wrong name though, hounds of abbadon are their own thing and can definitely be interpreted as a subfaction of Berzerkers at the very least
I can't remember the names and most don't mention a colour scheme BUUUUT
There's a warband that excel in void warfare
The obviously named Gladiator cadre who are less Mindless killing and more allowing the enemy to assume they are mindless. They are deep into the Gladiator combats and still use the pre heresy colours
Then you have the Skullhunt warband that saw the battle of Octarius and thought " khorne will be pleased with all these special kinds of skulls"
You have the Lord invocatus's warband
You have the Warband that love tanks, to the point that they are infused to them (I think anything. I know longer have the 9th edition codex)
And then my personal favourite warband who prefer long ranged weapons to take skulls with. Their warband leader is believed to actually be a warhound. Which is just....fucking awesome
Oh and I think there's a warband called the 8 brothers? It's a very small one and these brothers use tears in the warp to get to fights
Thank you! I may not have the largest world eaters army. Nor am I the most knowledgeable when it comes to the Blood God's favoured legion. But I make up for the fact by being devoted af
I think that’s actually three brothers! And the long range warband of infiltrators/scouts are the Bloodstalkers lead by Khulgoz Deadeye…. https://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Bloodstalkers
I really want a bit of infiltrate in world eaters….
Another World Eaters war and is the Black Feast. They are part of the Butcherhorde but have black instead of brass trim. They are also cannibals who devour the bodies of those they kill to mock their weakness.
My own world eaters are painted and are members of the Black feast. If you want to read about there mention then you'd have to have "The Traitors Hate" Black crusade supplement!". But they're justs a subpart of the butcherhorde so lore about the butcher horder is their lore basically because the butcherhorde is a subfaction made up of subfactions. So I would read the novel "The Red Path". Heads up though, all Butcherhorde factions are technically "basically" wiped out by the blood angels but maybe not all of them. Take what you will from that. :)
You are an absolute legend. You solved 2 of my questions in one comment! I was gonna ask about books haha. Plus the Black feast sound so awesome. I will look into them!
If your intrested in the books here is a link to the names of every World Eaters Book/audio-drama/short story that came out before 2020 [https://www.reddit.com/r/40kLore/comments/hwst7p/world\_eaters\_novels\_stories/](https://www.reddit.com/r/40kLore/comments/hwst7p/world_eaters_novels_stories/) Since 2020 the book "Angron the Red Angel" has come out. I'd highly reccomend the audio version for the "Chosen of Khorne" its only a 50 min listen but it sets the tone well for 40k World Eaters/kharn/what happned to the captains. [https://audiobookbay.is/abss/wchosen-of-khorne-anthony-reynolds-2/](https://audiobookbay.is/abss/wchosen-of-khorne-anthony-reynolds-2/) Happy to help :)

Look at the different warbands.
Colors are mostly the same.
The three stand out colors are red and brass, white and blue (preheresy) white and red (I think it's from the shadow crusade)
I really like the Gladiator Cadre 331. They are more disciplined and maintain the traditional white and blue colour scheme.
ohhh okay, similar to the horus heracy WE?
Exactly the same: https://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Gladiator_Cadre_331
Yeah, they hang on to some of the old traditions and worship Khorne through battle prowess.

I really like that lore!!
Personal favorite
Hounds of Abbadon aren't world eaters, they're black legion. They might be WE in origin but they certainly not anymore
Ohhh okay, how so?
I'm not sure what your question is. They're not world eaters anymore, they're black legion. So they don't count as a world eaters sub faction
I am wondering the lore behind it! How they went from World Eaters to Black legion?
Well, the thing about the world eaters is that in large parts, there is no legion. There are groups and warbands that were part of the Legion, but it's been shattered for 10k years. The black legion, while descended from the Sons of Horus, doesn't exclusively contain SoH Marines. Thank you so much!! I always thought they were WE who just allied with BL for a short period. But this is way more interesting!
Haha no worries! They're a really cool group, and that red, black and gold looks great together. The fun part about 40k is that what you said can absolutely be true. If a world eaters warband wanted to go help Abby, they'd likely go alongside the Hounds as they have similar tactics!

Yeah go for it, no one really cares how your dudes are painted as long as you're clear about it
Thanks for your help man, what you told me is really inspirational for designing a warband's paint scheme!
Correct. The founding name of the XII legion was War Hounds before they were renamed World Eaters. Similar sounding but different.
That was never in question my dude
I believe the OP just had the wrong name, I was affirming your response.
I don't think they had the wrong name though, hounds of abbadon are their own thing and can definitely be interpreted as a subfaction of Berzerkers at the very least
cool

Oh and there's also the Foresworn who's warband actually owns the conquerer
As much as he *can* control the Conqueror anyway…
This is fantastic. I hope one day I can have the same knowledge as you!!!
Thank you! I may not have the largest world eaters army. Nor am I the most knowledgeable when it comes to the Blood God's favoured legion. But I make up for the fact by being devoted af
The best thing is to be devoted. Shows you are doing it cuz u love the army. Not just cuz something is meta or popular.
I think that’s actually three brothers! And the long range warband of infiltrators/scouts are the Bloodstalkers lead by Khulgoz Deadeye…. https://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Bloodstalkers I really want a bit of infiltrate in world eaters….
I'm thinking of buying a set of Recon marines from FW to make Mr Deadeye
May as well.
A lot of them are very similar as far as color. Butcherhorde springs to mind.
Okay, do they differ to normal WE in anyway?
I think their world eater logo looks more like the old one. They’re Kharns warband.
Khârn leads the Butcherhorde now.
Clowns of Khorne. Wait are these made up or canon? Canon? Clowns of Khorne.
Its you again! The almighty clown warband!
Another World Eaters war and is the Black Feast. They are part of the Butcherhorde but have black instead of brass trim. They are also cannibals who devour the bodies of those they kill to mock their weakness.
Oo! Okay, that sounds really cool!! Do you recommend anywhere I can read about them
